Fun fact: This location was originally a Perko's Café that opened in 2000 and served the Tracy community until it closed in 2024. Huckleberry's is a great option if you're looking for breakfast. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious inside and can easily accommodate large groups. There are also a couple of semi-private dining areas toward the back that are slightly separated from the main dining room. The interior has a cozy, rustic feel with exposed brick that made me feel like I wasn't in Tracy. Our server was friendly, attentive, and quick to take our drink orders while we looked over the menu. The only minor disappointment was the drip coffee, which had a bit more bitterness than I prefer. I ordered a build-your-own omelet with three eggs, avocado, bacon, and cheese, served with fresh fruit and wheat toast. The omelet was a generous size, and they definitely didn't skimp on the bacon. The fruit was fresh, and the wheat toast had the perfect balance of being lightly crisp on the outside while still soft and buttery inside. Overall, I had a very good experience. Never been here before as I don't frequent Tracy. We were seated about 5 mins after we came in, they were pretty busy. Even being busy there was ample seating. Brunch isn't typically my preference but when i do eat it, i always try crab cakes Benedict if it's available. Here, it was just okay. Not much of a wow factor kinda mediocre. Also tried the stacked chicken & waffles and that was pretty good. Definitely different. I met a friend here for brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was pretty busy! I was a little late so my friend got us a table. Not sure how long she had to wait, but I was able to just sit right down. The waitress was great! She took our orders and before we knew it our food was sitting in front of us. I ordered an ice tea, the creole omelet with potatoes and a huckleberry muffin. I thought the $4.00 ice tea was good but a little pricey! The omelet was very good, but the potatoes were a little under cooked. If I go, there again I would ask for the potatoes to be crispy to ensure they are completely cooked. The muffin was really underwhelming. I expected it to better. I felt like it was too light in texture. It seemed like it was a bad box mix. Next time I'm going to order a biscuit or just an English muffin. My friend got the stuffed french toast that was topped with powdered sugar, which she really liked. But for my tastes it seemed like it would be super sweet and I'm not into all that sugar. Overall it was ok, but nothing special. This was my second time coming to this restaurant. I recommended this place to my mom who was visiting from the East Coast. Unfortunately, her and my sister did not like their meal. They got the Mississippi Skillet which is packed with potatoes and lacked flavor. Also there were too much potatoes and not enough eggs. However, my meal was good. The first time I came here, I had the country fried steak and eggs. The gravy was the star of the plate, so yummy! I would definitely recommend that dish. My dad ordered the the California burger with sweet potato fries and my mom went for the create your own omelette and a side order of Huckleberry muffin. I ordered the shrimp po boy sandwich. The dish looks good but taste wise it was so salty for my liking. I find the french fry seasoning to be way too salty. I had to rub the seasoning off and it didn't really help. The crispy shrimp kind of tasted salty too but not so bad as the french fries. I should have just ordered the ribeye steak or the hamburger. AWARENESS: A few months ago, news went out that Perko's which is equivalent to old time places like; Joe's or Doggie Diner was going out of business and a new place was taking over called "Huckleberry's." I recall a lot of rants in the local news about the change but hey, sometimes change is good. NARRATIVE: Since the opening of Huckleberry's. I've seen an uptick in the Yelp reviews for their new, exciting, fresh and tasty menu. Not recalling this same enthusiasm when Perko's occupied this space. I put Huckleberry's on my "try soon" list and gave the place a few months to let the newness wear off on the locals because, no ones safe from a bad yelp review. Especially when they wait two hours to eat mediocre food with bad service. Fast forward a few months to today; January 28, 2023 around 5:30 AM. Shockingly, I awoke hungry. Surprised? Says no one who knows me. I decided today would be a good time to try Huckleberry's breakfast. Opening the Yelp app to see what time they opened. I was happy to see they too start their mornings early by opening at 6 AM. So, just after six, I headed to North end of town to Huckleberry's. Arriving just after they opened and the parking lot being so empty, I was able to grab a spot in front the doors. Walking in to an almost empty restaurant, I took a quick peek around. The bayou decor is very cute. The music playing; a mix of zydeco and country and I noticed, even at six in the morning, they had three severs working the floor. I took a couples booth seat and almost as fast as I sat, I was greeted, welcomed in and asked about drinks by my server Janette. As she dropped off my drinks, she handed me a menu. The menu is pretty extensive and they serve both breakfast and lunch during their open hours. There were many items I wished to order but, I was there was breakfast and I knew, If all went well, I would return so I could try more next time. I decided on "The Cajan." Two poached eggs over grilled Andouille (cajan) sausage with sliced tomatoes all sitting on top of toasted sourdough bread and finally topped with green onions. The Cajan also comes with Bayou Potatoes but I elected the hash browns instead. I'm not too fond of bell peppers. My food arrived within ten minutes of the order and after taking a few glamor yelp shots, I dug in by first trying my sausage. Very tasty. Next were the pouched eggs. Unlike some establishments where the hollandaise sauce has that overpowering punch, this place doesn't. The sauce was smooth and creamy and wasn't over powering. The pouched eggs were perfectly cooked! Firm and very little runny yoke and, sitting on top of the toasted sourdough just made this dish work. My hash browns were crisp on the outside and moist and hot on the in. Again, perfectly cooked! SCENE: Huckleberry's resides in the same location where Perko's once stood. Located on the North West corner of Lincoln and Tracy Blvd, it shares a small parking lot with several other business and another restaurant. Parking, if not planning on an early start, will be a challenge or even impossible. Inside; Huckleberry's decor is set as a bayou theme. Bright lighting, very clean and the sounds of zydeco music just makes you feel good and upbeat as soon as you walk in the door. RECOMMENDATION(S): I was impressed! I will be back and if you asked, I'd highly recommend. read more

I looked forward to trying this place as I'd heard so many positive things about the food AND the service which left me with really high expectations for both. Overall, the food was okay (not amazing, but not bad) and the service could've been a little better. FOOD: Fried Green tomatoes: (4/5). I'd never tried these before but they were really good. perfectly hot, crispy and good flavor. The "spicy ranch" dip was not spicy at all and tasted more like regular ranch, so don't be scared. I wish they'd give more than 5 pieces. Crab Cake benedict: (3/5) The Yolks on both eggs were runny as one would hope for but they were pretty tiny. I know there was a recent high demand for eggs due to the bird flu thing so I'm wondering if they used really really small eggs b/c that's all they could get? The hollandaise sauce was generous. The crab cake was okay but not amazing. The menu says it comes with country reds or fruit. But our server asked if I wanted "hashbrowns or country reds". I chose the reds (as the menu says) but she failed to say that it was extra. The potatoes: (1/5) Everything about this was completely flavorless and bland. I took one bite and just left it on the plate. Mississippi Skillet: (4/5) It was a hodge podge of all the yummy breakfast things you would want. However my husband felt that It needed a salsa. He asked for salsa and the server brought a salsa that looked like Pace. If they'd had a pico de gallo or a green or red salsa that's usually on tacos, that would've made this dish a whole lot better. My husband also found the reds to be bland and flavorless. Caramel Macchiato: (3/5) Besides the caramel drizzle on top, I didn't taste any caramel IN the coffee and tasted more like they mixed International Delight Vanilla creamer. The whipped cream was different in that it was THICK which was unique for me. Overall, I would not call this a caramel macchiato, more like a vanilla latte. It was alright. Service: I didn't feel super welcomed by our server and she could've been friendlier. We had no Paper towel roll on our table. She wasn't coming around to our table but yes to others. So I had to ask another server to bring us a roll. We weren't given utensils, so we had to wait for those to dig into our food. Coffee refills were hard to come by, same with water refills. The portions are large but really it felt like an overpriced Denny's experience. Maybe if the service was better, I could get past the food. read more

Although we have seem some other locations previously, this was our first time trying (and eating at) any Huckleberry's location. The parking lot was full and I had to wait for someone to leave so I had my husband run in and put our names in while I parked. We arrived 5 minutes before 9a on a rainy Saturday morning. Our Party of 3 got seated right away, by the time I was done parking the car they were just seated! (Awesome!!) We got a nice, spacious corner booth as soon as I sat down, the back of my legs stuck to the seat (yuck) - I notified our waitress who came back with a wet rag and hopped under the table with her phone to light it up and cleaned it for us! All with a smile it was greatly appreciated. Seems like maybe someone before us spilled on the seat and didn't tell them? Our waitress Emily was very attentive and came back to take our order. My husband couldn't decide what to try as he loves both sweet and savory and asked for her recommendations. She shared some of her favorites and took our order: Mardi Gras Beignets Gold medal chicken and waffles Side of crispy bacon Cajun eggs Benedict with Cajun potatoes Eggs Benedict with crispy Cajun potatoes Our order was ready fairly quickly and the only issue was my plate was delivered without crispy potatoes (as I previously ordered them). When Emily stopped by to check on us I let her know (since she wasn't the one who delivered it) and she took care of it right away having a new side remade. The food itself was "not bad" - the beignets didn't have much flavor without the fruit. They charged extra to make my potatoes "Cajun style" which adds the onions and bell peppers - otherwise, flavorless. The eggs Benedict had a thick piece of ham and good hollandaise sauce but the egg was a little undercooked along with the potatoes- I'm glad I asked for mine crispy since the standard was was barely cooked for my liking. My son enjoyed the waffle but didn't care for the breading on the chicken. We tasted his chicken and didn't find anything wrong with it although it did have more "spices" (pepper) than some others. The portions were filling but the prices for these items we didn't feel were necessarily warranted. Emily's customer service and smile was honestly what made our experience because while the food wasn't horrible, the experience with it wasn't great but the way Emily handled it and made everything right without a fuss was greatly appreciated. She even chatted with us about how she got the job which was very personable. She was so sweet and such a great server we hope her boss and coworkers recognize it!
