We arrived at M&J  Bistro during the rush and there was going to be at least a 45 minute wait.  We were hungry and said thank you and started to walk out the door. The owner said wait, seating at the bar is available! We paused and said sure. We ordered two lemon drops and those shaved chips were amazing!! We could see all of the food coming out of the kitchen from our bar seats and everything looked like fine dining that you would find in San Francisco.  When our food arrived we were very pleased with the quality and presentation.  We had the Gluten Free chicken fettuccine and the teriyaki steak and both were Outstanding!!! I have not personally tried this place but last saturday my daughter left a medical device there. My wife and I contacted the owner Jason on a Sunday which is their closed day and asked him it were possible to get the device. He made it happen and we are very thankful for that. Great selection of Bay Area dishes with a lean toward Italian. My family is fairly new to Tracy and found this place to be a local gem. The food is delicious. Was in there last week for their amazing prime rib stew and my husband had the fettuccine alfredo. The holiday drinks were fabulous especially the eggnog. To die for! Service was amazing as always prompt and friendly. Food was as good as anything I'd get in San francisco, Sacramento or any other major city. Flavorful and five star. Don't eat here! Long story-short: we waited 2 hours for our food, some of the plates came out cold, they added an extra tip without telling us, and the food was trash. We wanted to have a nice dinner with my family. They told to us to come sharply on time; if we were late they would cancel our reservation. So we came on time. They sat us in the side room that isn't classy like the main area and needs a major remodel. We waited 2 hours for our food!!! The food finally came out... my chicken was cold like it was sitting for 30 minutes at least. The staff never apologized or offered to comp any part of our over priced meal. The owner even came into our room a few times and never apologized for the wait. We paid and they snuck a $40 tip without telling us. Which was on top of the tip we had already paid. We split the check and I ended up paying $65 for 2 pieces of cold chicken and water. read more

There were only a couple of tables occupied when we sat down, around 7pm on a weekday, and yet the service has been extremely disappointing. Wait staff was slow, inattentive, and I'm fairly sure they forgot to put in our order because we had to keep asking about our drinks and entrees. Mind you, I'm a very easygoing person with past waiting experience myself so I generally try not to be "that" type of guest but after about half an hour with no food in sight and having had to inquire about drinks it had gotten frustrating. First timer to the resturant. Also ordered online with special request. The food was on time and took care of the additional charge at the resturant. As I had put into the online order and no surprises. Service was awesome, friendly. Items were packaged separately, took initiative to improve customer experience. Great job as far as I am concerned and very much appreciated. Yes there was a $2.00 charge, but the detail brought value above the $2. Food: even with take out, we always are little more selective. Meaning we want great food prepared well, so we always select what we feel 'travels well'. We were very pleased with the Chicken piccata, I think. In short, chicken breasts was well prepared (moist and delicious), sauce was awesome too. Mashed potatoes was creamy. Added double mash and vegs for wife and I to share. The food is phenomenal, and within Tracy city limits. We enjoy it every time we come to this restaurant. Our waiters and staff are incredibly attentive. They bring everything as requested. The owner will also come out and greet and make sure everything is as requested. The ambiance is romantic yet lively. It was WAY over cooked and about the thickness of a McDonalds hamburger patty. For a sit down restaurant charging 15+ dollars for a burger I was expecting alot more. My experience was ok... It was Friday evening they were BUSY and UNDERSTAFFED. I like the atmosphere but the bartender was really over the top had me embarrassed for him. We had a wonderful dinner on 3/16/19! Our server Brian was great, he was attentive and super friendly for our party of 11. Lots of good menu choices, there is something for everyone. They also have some good local craft beers. They have a nice kids menu, with lots of options. The Shaved Potatoes appetizer is a must have. The blue cheese sauce with it is delicious. Some of the dishes that stood out were the Teriyaki Steak, prepared perfectly with garlic mashed potatoes. The Prawn Fettuccine had lots of prawns and the garlic-parmesan sauce was excellent. We were celebrating a birthday so of course had to have dessert. The crepes were amazing and several choices. We met Jason, the owner and he thanked us for coming. This review is a long time coming .. me and my husband recently moved here from San Jose in October where we were used to a plethora of restaurant options with great food choices. We decided on this place for our Christmas Eve dinner and it didn't disappoint. Everything we ordered was delicious. When I picked up the food the manager or front desk guy was so helpful and even helped carry our food to my car because we had a large order. If it's a Friday night and you don't have a reservation and even if it's only 2 of you, don't even think of going to M&J Bistro. The manager is very rude. He told us we can wait, but he couldn't tell us how long the wait would be, and he said that even if we waited and get seated that we would still have a long wait because there are other people who are there before us. Basically, he was discouraging us from eating there. They were also under staffed, and I can understand why, I wouldn't want to work for a manager like him either ( I think his name is James). I felt that the manger could care less if we ate there or not. He really didn't want our business, and he showed it through his actions. This wasn't the first time he treated us like this. We ended up going to Junior's on 10th street, and they were much better and the food and service at Junior's is A++. We always get great service at Junior's! read more

AMAZING!! My husband and daughter and I went here for dinner tonight. The staff was professional, courteous and checked on us often but didn't bug us. And can I just say how unbelievably delicious the food was? Oh my goodness. I had the mini portabella mushroom fettuccine, my husband had the ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and my daughter had the chicken strips with grilled veggies. My wife and I decided to try M&J for lunch today. She had been there once for a group event and it was my first time. The server was very friendly and attentive, and also very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the crisp shaved potatoes as an appetizer. They come with a bleu cheese sauce, which concerned me because I absolutely cannot stand bleu cheese. That being said, the server suggested that I try the sauce anyway and I might be surprised. He wasn't wrong...it was delicious...more of an aioli with a slightly cheesy bite. For our meal, my wife ordered the filet medallion sliders and I had a combo pizza. Both came with a house salad. The sliders were small in size, but HUGE on flavor. Perfectly medium rare as ordered, the meat and mushrooms almost melted in our mouths. They had a generous spread of their bleu cheese horseradish sauce, and once again, DELICIOUS. (Remember, this is coming from the guy who is nauseated by bleu cheese). They were definitely a party in my mouth. My combo pizza was also top notch. It was loaded with fresh, flavorful toppings and much bigger than I would have expected for the price. This restaurant is located in a Plaza that doesn't look too appealing (it's not dirty or trashy) but this restaurant has more of an upscale look and feel to it. There's a desperate room where you can have private events that can hold up 30 people. We ordered the B&J Bistro sampler dessert. It came with the chocolate hazelnut decadent crepe (tasted like Nutella wrapped in a chocolate flavored crepe), a nutty butter crepe (tasted like peanut butter wrapped in a chocolate flavored crepe..kinda like a snicker bar taste) , a sugarless cheesecake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They were absolutely delicious! I'm so happy I finally got to eat here...I've been begging my husband to have dinner here and today 1/7/16 my dream finally came true! I hosted a surprise birthday dinner for my dad's 70th birthday here and am so glad I did! This place met my expectations in every way! Location: A little unusual for this kind of restaurant. It is in a shopping center that shares a parking lot with Big Lots and Dollar Tree, which I would have expected from a fast food chain like Subway. On the upside, there was plenty of parking! Event Room: Seats up to 26 people, which was just enough for my event. Everything was neatly setup upon our arrival and each table already had a carafe of iced water and drinking glasses. I requested a small table for the cake and although the space was tight with 6 tables, they made it happen. They allowed me to bring my own centerpieces and decorate each table as I pleased, which was definitely a plus! Food: SIMPLY DELICIOUS!!! They had a preset menu, which was exactly what I was looking for when planning my event. I chose the package with the following menu selections at $36 per person: portabella mushroom pasta, salmon, and teriyaki steak. EVERYONE loved the food and every single person's plate was brought out hot! I chose salmon -- it came with mashed potatoes, spinach, and a couple of snap peas. It was delicious! Customer Service: GREAT!!! We had one main server, which worked out well for the most part. There was a couple of times we looked for her, but overall, she was good and was able to get us everything needed. She had help when bringing out the plates, which allowed everyone to get their plates in a timely manner. The manager also came in and checked on us a few times.
