M&M is amazing, and I'm so happy that Yelp helped us to find them. We live in one of those cool DC spaces that is just...shapes. We required oddly specific sizes for a new stackable washer-dryer, as the space was built around 1980s models and sizes that no longer exist. We stopped by M&M (pre-pandemic, I'm just tardy to writing their review!) just before they were meant to be closing (Google had one time, their front door had another), but the nice salesman finished up with the couple he was talking to and turned to us, saying he would stay late if he had to for us. He didn't, we were still out before they closed, but I appreciated that from the very start we were treated like we mattered and not like the total washer/dryer noobs we actually are. We visited other appliances stores and your typical box outlets, and nowhere else did anyone explain things to us in plain terms or make sure we had exactly what we needed. We never felt pressured or rushed to make a decision and were offered multiple small options in a range of prices. We were happy to buy our washer/dryer from them and to do a small part in supporting a business like theirs. They installed the whole thing as well, and it's been like 5 months and everything is still working perfectly. The model they suggested was just slightly over budget but is so worth it. I needed to replace my dishwasher and my washer & dryer and they were super helpful. It was 2021 so things were still back ordered but I was expecting a baby and really needed my cleaning things working. They talked to me a lot to figure out the perfect fit regarding price, availability, and how I was planning to use it. 2 years later and everything is still working like a charm! The only issue I have is when they installed the washer dryer, the guy put the washer on the left and dryer on the right because of the way the doors were facing (even though the previous units were in the other places). When I was having someone in to look at getting a countertop and cabinet put in above it, he said that the doors can be installed either way and you just need a kit to flip them around but now I have longer tubes to accommodate the different placement and that's not as energy efficient. If I wasn't so happy with their customer service in the selling department, I'd give less stars over the flip issue. read more

I had high hopes due to many positive reviews. But not responsive to multiple requests to purchase an appliance. We went elsewhere.

Noah helped us every step of the way and made sure the appliance purchasing process was easy and painless. M&M also gave us a very competitive price, which pleasantly surprised me! The only minor issues we had were that the delivery guys forgot to take off the travel bracket and adjust the leveling feet. Easily fixed, but slightly disappointing. I cannot fault the sales team, and I don't feel the issues were enough to warrant knocking off one star. Overall, definitely recommend M&M. read more

After our friend described her disaster experience with a big box store, I decided to look for a local dealer. I am so glad I found M&M. I worked with Eric M. over the phone and email for over a year. I started my order in June 2022. I understood that it would take months or even a year before everything arrives. He was very cool throughout the entire process. The final piece arrived last June. I had to pick up the vent hood and blower before the scheduled delivery date for sizing purposes and Eric set that up for me. The rest of my order was delivered with no issues. In 2020, we purchased a Miele washer and dryer and in 2021 we purchased a Frigidaire freezer and a GE oven. I needed a new dishwasher, and the reviews I read led me to select a Bosch. Wanting to work with a local business rather than a chain, I called M&M. Bottom line, I was very pleased with my experience from start to finish. First, I spoke with AJ by phone, and he was knowledgeable, answered my questions about various models clearly, and he was easily accessible when I needed to call him back with a question. I decided to come into the store to see the one Bosch that was in the display room. It turned out not to work for us (it was a differently-sized model for ADA features and the height didn't work with our counter height), so I sat down with AJ to order another well-reviewed Bosch model. Initially he explained I may have to wait until June or July for the dishwasher to come in because there are production delays due to Covid. However, then he dug into the computer and found the warehouse had one in stock! We arranged to have it delivered 4 days later, and the installation went VERY smoothly. First, the installers called in advance to say they were on their way, and they arrived just a tad before the scheduled time slot. Second, they were very careful with my wood floors when removing the old and bringing in the new dishwasher (they carried them completely off the floor). The installer, Brian, was kind enough to clean the floor under the old dishwasher before installing the new one. He properly created a "high loop" to avoid back-ups from the disposal which I didn't have with my prior dishwasher installation. Finally, once installed, he patiently explained how to use the dishwasher controls and how to adjust the rack height. I would definitely go back to M&M for other appliances. I'll separately review the dishwasher [Bosch 300 series model SHS863WD5N for $799] once I've used it more, but so far I can say it is extremely quiet and it got my dishes clean the first time I used it. read more

We just purchased a washer and dryer for our place and a refrigerator for a rental unit. We dealt with Noah in the Alexandria store and he was very helpful and patient, there were 3 groups of people in the store and everybody was getting attention. He took us through all of the features of the different models and answered all of our questions, so 5 stars for service in the store and for the salesperson. On the day the units were delivered we were given a window of noon to 5pm. I have dealt with appliances being delivered before and was half expecting the delivery to be cancelled or for there to be a problem with the installation because that seems to happen a lot. Not here, the delivery was the smoothest appliance delivery I have ever had. Both of the guys who showed up were nice, explained to my tenants about the fridge, and made sure it was balanced. For the Washer and Dryer they got it in with no problems, removed the old vent, made sure the hoses were the perfect sizes, really went above and beyond. We will be getting a new stove sometime soon and no doubt I will be using the Alexandria branch of M&M again. read more

I am looking for a new appliance and this store came up in the listing. These guys jerked me around December 2019 and I went to their showroom and got a refund and did tell them I would never come back. I prepaid for a washer and dryer and told them I would pay with a card and listed the only days I was available for the new items to be installed. We both agreed on the delivery day in advance. They blew it. The delivery day was not met. A new delivery day was set and then a truck was sent out with one item at a time on a day that were not scheduled. And, I did not receive a telephone call before the attempted delivery. All of this forced me to keep trying to reestablish delivery days and time. So, it was easier and faster for me to order parts online and repair the 35y dryer myself then waiting and see when this company could be on time. At the time when I picked out the washer and dryer I clearly explained that I would only give my credit card information if they could agree to do their part and deliver items on the agreed day. M&M failed their part of the agreement once they had my money in hand. I don't like a biz that does that and I will never go back. I will pay more up front when I know someone will do what has been agreed and you already have my money. read more

My husband and I recently had to replace our washer and dryer as the old washing machine was on it's last legs. After much research online, we headed over to M&M in Old Town Alexandria, VA and to our amazement (even though the showroom is fairly small) we found that almost every stacked washer and dryer we were considering was on the showroom floor. This, and Eric Mattsson's knowledge about the different W/D sets were extremely helpful in our making a decision. Eric was very professional, knowledgeable, and low pressure. We left that day without making a purchase as we had to verify whether our existing electrical service could handle the additional electrical load (we would be converting from a gas to a condensing electric dryer). As soon as we determined that the W/D we preferred would work, we went by the showroom (on a Sunday) to make the purchase with Eric. Unfortunately he was not working that day and that weekend just happened to be the recent tax-free weekend in VA. Even though it was a Sunday, and I felt bad contacting Eric on his day off, I sent him a text letting him know we were interested in purchasing a W/D. Within minutes he called me back and said no problem, he understood that we wanted to take advantage of the tax free offer and he did the entire transaction over the phone to make that happen. Eric arranged to have M&M deliver the W/D within days of the purchase, and the delivery and installation went off smoothly. I actually cannot believe how smoothly the entire process went when comparing it to experiences I have had with other appliance dealers in the past. M&M is top notch in service and I would highly recommend them (and especially Eric) to anyone looking for a new appliance! read more

It would take hours to write about all the issues we've experienced. Briefly -- 1) The first time they came out to inspect why our washer wasn't working, they told us we were using the wrong detergent. When we said it was detergent we'd always used, then they told us we were using it incorrectly. When we stressed that IT'S NOT THE DETERGENT, they finally looked at the machine and realized it has a defective part. 2) They ordered the wrong part, but didn't tell us until the day of delivery when we'd already taken off work. 3) Although they schedule you in advance, they will not let you know when they'll come out to your house. Morning? Evening? You don't find out until the day/afternoon before. Good luck planning. 4) They work this wonky schedule, so some repair techs are available only on Mondays, some only on Thursdays, so good luck getting a quick appointment. 5) After three failed evals, I demanded they send a competent technician, so they sent their "best" with the correct parts for the repair. But they still weren't the right parts! And he still couldn't figure out what was wrong! He wasn't available for three weeks, and we had to wait THREE WEEKS just to find out that the problem STILL wasn't fixed. 6) After nearly four months without a functioning washing machine (I know, I know, just get a new one -- I'm the tenant!), it's finally decided that we'll get a new washer & dryer. On the day of delivery, after I'd already taken off work, and after they'd already confirmed delivery the day before, they call MINUTES before they'll set to arrive to tell us that their warehouse packed THE WRONG WASHER & DRYER! What complete incompetence, what spectacular inability on a comprehensive level. They're not just inept with their main business -- fixing appliances -- but they inept at business operations! I'd warn you, but that's the point of this post. If you want epic frustration, hire these folks to do anything. They won't let you down! read more

This is a small, modern appliance store with old-fashioned service. I had a challenging issue, with a very tight, old-fashioned laundry closet. The owners and staff recommended a combination washer/dryer (single unit, not stacked) , which uses a new technology allowing consecutive washing and drying in a single drum. This would save considerable space, but the best such model was still a very tight fit. As part of their service, the owner himself came around to do a site inspection. He measured carefully and determined that my preferred unit would indeed fit. Later, the installation went very smoothly. Prices are generally competitive, but not with the cut rate outfits. Given the old-fashioned service and the fact that store personnel take you through the whole process themselves, you get what you pay for with Candey's. They even make actual apointments and show up on the dot! No "windows" requiring wasted days of vacation time. If you have a simple job, say installation in a basement with plenty of room and no issues, and if you aren't too picky about the machine, you probably could go with a bigger operation and save some money. But if you have any issues or if you consider your time valuable, Candey's is an excellent choice. read more

After an abysmal experience at Lowe's, I decided to "go small" and "go local," and expected to pay a premium for doing so, assuming that the smaller stores probably couldn't match the big-box store prices for dishwashers. Not so, I'm glad to report. Candey's had everything a store should have--attentive customer service (I emailed my specs to them, and they had choices available for us when we showed up, saving considerable time), and very reasonable prices--better, in fact, than I'd have paid at Lowes for a comparable machine. You don't often find a small business like Candy's, especially in a big city like DC. They match the prices of the big box stores, and offer pretty much every brand and every model. What sets them apart is the level of service.... The manager Eric is knowledgeable and professional, offering a level of service you just won't find from a part timer at Best Buy or Home Depot. Given that they match or beat prices at the big stores, it's not even necessary to drive yourself crazy comparing prices from one store to another. Eric will do your homework for you. We went with a particular suite of appliances which were much cheaper than where our contractor recommended we purchase them from. Also, Eric pointed out a second rebate we would not have known about (which has been processed) netting us an extra ~$700. M&M kept our appliances in storage a little longer than normal with no issue and delivery was timely and excellent. Not in the 60+ years that I have lived here have I received such outstanding customer service as I did this morning when shopping for a new washer and dryer. Envision the best qualities you would dream of finding in a business (but wouldn't dare to expect) and then multiply that times one hundred. That is exactly what I experienced with the extremely kind salesman at M & M. I was treated with the utmost courtesy, respect, and patience that is their hallmark. I cannot express how happy and grateful I am to know that excellent customer service does still exist and I cannot recommend this business highly enough. I ordered a new washer and dryer in early December 2020. I told it would be delivered in a month (if not sooner), which was very important as my current washer was no longer working. It ended up taking two months after the date of my order for the items to be delivered, but of course that was no concern to them since they received full payment up front. After finally receiving my new items, the brand new dryer was leaving black marks on my white clothes the first time I used it. They were terrible with customer service and I had to keep following up to try and resolve the issue my brand new expensive dryer was having but they were not interested in helping to resolve the issue at all. They referred me to a company that they claimed would fix the issue under warranty. When I called that company to a schedule service, I was laughed at and told they don't service in Virginia. When I informed M&M they referred me to a company that doesn't provide service, they couldn't have cared any less. I ended up having to contact the dryer manufacturer directly and was finally able to resolve the issue. On top of all of that, I paid for a new vent hose that the installers did not install. When I requested a refund for that, I was questioned and told they had no record from the installers that it wasn't used. I was present at installation and knew it wasn't installed, and even questioned the installers as to why it wasn't installed. I had to send a picture to M&M to prove it was not installed and they finally agreed to send a refund. After over a month without receiving the refund and 3 inquiries following up on when it would be received, the refund was finally processed. This company is terrible and once they get their money, they no longer care about the customer. I will never buy anything from here again. Beware!! read more

So when my Miele Dishwasher died, Eric saved me an expensive service visit by telling me first to check the electrical outlet under the sink. After reading so many positive reviews we were encouraged to buy our new refrigerator from M&M vs. a big box store. It was a huge mistake. We ordered our GE frig from M&M and were given a delivery date 7 days out. Our current frig was failing but we paid for a temporary repair to keep our frig going until our delivery date. M&M called a couple of days before we the scheduled delivery, and they told us the new delivery date 5 days later then originally stated. Close to the revised delivery date, we were told that there was virtually no way they could give us a delivery date. They said our frig was in back order (this would have been useful information to know up front, as we would NOT have ordered it had we been informed). In addition, they said if we wanted it in another color, we would not have a problem. In other words, after almost 2 weeks of revised delivery dates...there was no refrigerator!! By this point, our current refrigerator failed again and we not only paid for another repair, we had to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of food. If we had ordered from Home Depot, we would have already had the new unit and saved all that money and anguish. Never again will I use M&M and I would advise anyone I know against them. I will take my chances with big box stores from now on read more
