Using plenty of native plants to create a space that is beautiful and healthy, to incorporate a bit of rewilding designs. I have a great love for our planet and the creatures that we share it with. I was a kid of the 70s and spent every waking moment outdoors in the woods or fields near my home. Back then they were full of such diversity, there was life in everything around me! Now those places are void of life, they are now neighborhoods with lawns, the natural wonders have been silenced! Flash forward 50 years I have grown children of my own, the change in nature in my life time scares the crap out of me! I am so saddened and enraged that this collapsed ecosystem is is what their generation's base line of the world is, and it keeps dwindling with every generation. Its all they know. They do not know what its like stepping out into a diverse magical world of plants, bugs, birds and all the little creatures that should be! I come from a background in the landscape and nursery industry, called the green industry, but what I was seeing in nature told me what we where doing was far from green. So I decided I had to do my best to protect and restore our amazingly beautiful home, and help others creat safe spaces for those we share this living planet with.

Madison Earth Care - Example of the plants

They accepted the job immediately and have shown up religiously on time every week since they said "yes". Rachel sends me two or three very qualified ladies each week, who now know the property well and understand the "look" that I am going for. They cover alot of ground, are very easy to work with, do just what I ask, work incredibly hard in all kinds of weather and are a joy to deal with. I am VERY VERY pleased with their work ethic and knowledge of gardening and plants. Please give them a try.....

As I spread the soil, I removed as many twigs as I could, but I didn't realize many of them were actually roots from invasive plants. As the grass is starting to sprout, so are many bindweed and common mugwort plants. I'm trying to remove the entire root system as the weeds sprout, but many roots are buried deep in the soil and remain behind. At this point, I may have to destroy much of the new lawn to fully eliminate these invasive weeds. Very disappointing, and now I'm concerned this could turn into a long-term project. I'm not sure what Madison Earth Care could have done to prevent this, but it's something to be aware of if you plan to use this soil in your yard.

Customer service is severely lacking…read more When I finally found a staff member, I asked about finding a vegetable plant I wanted. She had no idea and called for back up. The other staff member came over so that the three of us where all about 5 feet apart. The original staff member explained that I was looking for a plant and the new staff member did not acknowledge me and told the other staff member that the plants were sold out and "she should've planted those plants in the ground already; they won't even take now" in a scolding tone (yes, she was aware it was me looking to buy). She was offensive, she wouldn't look at me or speak to me - the paying customer, and I stood there mouth agape. She didn't care or notice because she never looked at me, of course, and just walked off. After a moment of processing the intense dismissive snobbery, I walked away from the rest of my cart and left. (Please note: I work two jobs and managed to buy the plant elsewhere and had a wonderful harvest despite the timing not being ideal. - Also, I heard later that the rude staff member was related to the owners, but cannot verify). Another time before the one above, I had gone to grab some plants and asked the staff member at checkout about a specific type of bush. She had no idea and wanted to radio in to someone else working that section. It was taking him a bit to respond, so while waiting, I said, "no worries, I'll come back another time, I don't have the time now." She ignored me and kept radio-ing, I said, "really, now is not good. No need to call him." And she continued to ignore me and call on the radio - while not ringing me up. In the end I said, "you know what, I don't need any of these items" and she finally faced me saying "Oh, are you sure? Ok. Have a great day." Just - what?!?! Most staff do not know about the plants or care, they just work there, so a heads up if you're looking for that highly knowledgable service. Driving in/out and parking is a nightmare unless it is empty. Scratching your car to fit two cars on the road is almost inevitable. The energy here is all weird. They are always frantic on the radios as if they are all always annoyed at each other or annoyed to have to do their job, the majority of staff members I have met don't respect their customers (they seem to avoid them), and it is a very cramped shopping experience. While yes, this place is overpriced, I'm happy to pay a little extra for a local business and not a big box store. That said, this isn't a little extra and they don't treat their customers well at all. We all arrive at garden centers smiling and excited for the warmer weather, it is odd to have such poor treatment when the buy in is there from the start. That points to leadership, but who knows. No longer a place I frequent or recommend, but still might go in a pinch with very low expectations.

They do NOT have a restroom so you have to drive a mile either way if you have to use it. If it was an emergency she said you can go out to the bushes. Yes. This was said. This may be important if you're drinking a lot of tea. If you just want a cup of tea they will serve it in a to go paper cup. They use plastic silverware and paper plates. But if you can spent more on a pot of tea then you can get the nice china. So I ordered the pot of tea for more money because the my mother was having a different tea. So I only had 1 cup of tea and a big pot that I didn't want. I was told that they usually serve "Starbucks" style where you go to the counter and they give you a cup of tea to go ( even if the whole point is not to go to Starbucks but have lovely afternoon with my mother) The only way you get served is if you get the pot of tea. The treats ( cookies and such- no scones in this day) are individually wrapped in ziplock bags) Again if you don't mind a different type of afternoon tea experience and you are just there maybe for the atmosphere and don't need a restroom ( sorry I keep bringing that up but I still can't believe it) then you can indulge in these teas and the company of the lovely owner. It just not our cup of tea.
