My auto insurance policy covers towing services and I needed to get my car towed to a mechanic, so…read moreI contacted them who contracted Angels City Towing. My insurance company said Angel City would arrive between 60 - 90 minutes.. 52 min later, I got a call from Angel City (Alex) saying that before he could dispatch a driver, he needed to collect $57 because the towing distance was over 5 miles (when I navigated myself, distance only showed 4.6 miles, but I digress). According to Alex, distance was 5.5 which warranted the $57 charge. Since it has already been an hour waiting for the tow, I gave him a credit card number, he changed me $59.57, $57 + a credit card transaction fee, and after the charge cleared he said his driver would be at my location for pick up within 20 minutes.
An HOUR LATER a driver, Angel, shows up and starts hitching my car. If it weren't for my Ring, I wouldn't have even known he was there. About 20 minutes later, he finally gives me a call saying he needed my keys to finish the hitch. No apology for the delay, nothing.
As far as service, it was fine. I don't know what the average time is to hitch a car but it took about 30 minutes. I rode in the tow truck because I needed to talk to the mechanic & on the ride, just to confirm my suspicion about them incorrectly charging me, I watched the odometer and the distance was in fact 4.6 miles to the point. The fun doesn't stop there!
My insurance company calls me to find out how service was so I let them know about the charge and how it took a total of 2.5 hrs to finally get towed from the time of the initial call and the service agent, Pam, let's me know they should never have even charged me at all and that 100% of my towing services are covered up to 50 miles, so I called Angel City again letting them know I was improperly charged and Alex told me there's nothing he can do because my profile only shows coverage up to 5 miles.
I initially wanted to give 1 star, but updated to 2 because I was able to call back and get a receipt for my charge. My insurance company is going to reimburse me, but I had to go through the trouble of fronting the bill and submitting a claim. If I am assigned this tow company again, I will request another.
