Honest reliable workshop with reasonable price services. Winter tire changeover was within an hour and half, just right to enjoy lunch special at nearby restaurants. My car had some trouble and because I'm new to the area I chose this place based on reviews from others. These guys are absolutely wonderful. He took my worries and performed his own diagnosis with that in mind. Turns out my assessment was incorrect and he explained to me in detail exactly what was wrong, what could be done about it, and what was actually worth doing. My particular problem ended up being a body issue instead of a mechanical issue. He called in a friend of his who worked at a body shop for a second opinion just to be sure he was giving me accurate information. In the end he did not put any parts on and gave me an idea of what to expect and how to move forward with the car. Very professional and extremely detailed explanations. One of the best experiences with a mechanic I've ever had. If you want an honest mechanic who isn't trying to milk you for everything he can, then this shop is for you. This business is not what it once was. Since Mark M the owner since 1988 passed away.Now service is fair at best.Nobody seems to know whats going on. Very disorganized.Had to call them several times to get any information.I didn't feel comfortable letting them work on my car. So I was left with no other choice but to go somewhere else. These guys are the best!! I sent my husband to them with my highlander because every time I take it somewhere they try to take advantage of me because I'm a woman. But these guys educated both me and my man. They were speedy, very very communicative. Very honest. I have found my new repair shop! These guys are great! They helped me on a moment's notice when my car completely died one morning. Turns out, some little critter crawled up in to the nice, warm engine compartment and had a feast on some wires. Thankfully, this ends up being a relatively easy repair. The mechanic first did the diagnostics, ordered the part from dealership, but refused to show me the receipt or price. He later admitted he marked up the price 60% in addition to $96/H labor charge. He later lowered the price a little bit, but I still feel ripped off. After the repair, the car shakes but it did not happen before. The mechanic took it for a drive and it settled a little. He should have taken it for a drive before giving the car to me. I did repair work in other shops and they would show me the price from supplier on computer first and the receipt when the part arrives. I could have done the same work at Toyota dealership and pay lower price on the part. Why do it here and pay more? The labor cost is already pretty high, adding another 60% to part price is ridiculous. This is a small shop and not many customers. The owner was on vacation. I doubt the mechanic has much experience. It is my first visit at M&S Auto Repair and will not go back again. I don't recommend it. read more

One fine morning, I started my car, drove it a few feet , and let it warm up. Five minutes later, it died. No matter how many times I tried, the engine would not come on. I am new in Woburn and haven't had a need for a mechanic yet. But my boyfriend saw this place behind Dunkin Donuts. We drove over in his car and he talked to Mark, the mechanic. He was very helpful and suggested we do a few things to see what was wrong. Ultimately, they didn't work and I had the car towed to M & S the next morning. Mark was very thorough in diagnosing the problem and even cleaned up my corroded battery connection as a courtesy. I brought my 2011 Chevy Avalanche in with a ton of miles on it (over 125k) and it was running pretty rough. There was nothing particular wrong with it, just things when stopping and also gearing back up. This made it harder to diagnose. I thought it was the tranny but I did not know for sure. Well I brought it to Mark and his team for service. It is now running great. Well priced, and you can tell the quality of the work. He also kept me up to date on everything and was well timed too. You won't go wrong taking your car to Mark at M & S Auto because he is an excellent mechanic with great customer service and total honesty. I've been taking my truck there for nearly a decade now, and every time it's the same: great customer service, the truth about the problems, excellent recommendations and fast accurate repairs. This is a good story, several years back, I took my old truck in and it had so many issues, rust everywhere, literally shock absorbers punching through rusted out mounting brackets, you get the idea. Mark had repaired similar issues on that truck for me before, but this time he said that although he could fix it all and would be happy to, I should consider getting another truck because the cost of repairs was exceeding the value of the old truck and it was just going to have more issues down the road. That was amazing, he could've gouged me with repairs on that old rust bucket, but instead he offered that he could fix it or that I could take the thousands it would've cost and put that towards another vehicle. In the end, it saved me tons of money and worry to just get another truck, one which I still bring back to M & S Auto when it needs maintenance. Bottom line, Mark is an excellent, honest mechanic who's shop does high quality work for the right price and your car will be in good hands. read more

After moving here from Philly in 2001, I was at a loss for a mech- anic. Turned out that all 3 of my roommates have used M&S services and all were pleased with the results n prices. I was a very avid reader of Consumer Checkbook when I was living in Bowie, MD. If Mark was there at the time it was written up, he would have ranked at or near the top. My Dad was a mechanic, ('pop n 2 Uncles, too) n I have fooled around with some engines so, it can be fairly stated that I could evaluate Mark's skills and prices. First and foremost, he is always upfront n candid. He even ad- mitted that he would have preferred to overhaul a Toyota than a Jeep, even though he could do both just as well (one explanation is that he emigrated here from Lebanon n it is all Toyotas out there.) Being deaf myself, he actually takes all his time writing down explanations n what nots on my sick horse, using emails, drawing diagrams, even tho neither of us are close to Picasso. Recently, my daughter was in town to visit with me with her 2 lovely kids n aging yellow Lab. (I am struggling with cancer for 4 years now, so EllaMarie tries her best to come, visit, stay, etc. God bless her, as well as my two other kids). Prior to her arrival from Takoma Park, MD, there was a charging problem with her car and the mechanics replaced the alternator; worked for a while but it stall- ed on her on I-95 N (Winter St) during rush hour on a late Thurs- day noon. All day Friday, Mark and his co-workers went back and forth, trying to diagnose; he even has a HS kid whose ambition was to become a mechanic. He got the job with Mark simply by walking into his garage one day, unannounced and adamantly declared that he wants to work! Not only is the kid industrious and beating the street with gumshoes, but Mark has a grandfath- er heart in him n hired him forthwith. I am quite positive that his kid will not find a better teacher. Because the WhizKids could not locate the problem, EM was not charged a dollar! Really! Tru-biz...! (A few months earlier, I had my '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee taken in for assessment. I had it for 8 years and was just a few steps from 200,000. Mark and I did all the work. I decided that I do not want to keep the Jeep on the basis of costs vs benefits. Mark asked me what I wanted to do with it and I said something like Salvation Army. Then, Mark turned around and pointed his finger at the young, quiet and lanky kid, not only as a learning tool, but he only had a bicycle as a means of transportation. Kid lives in Wakefield or something. This chain of events work all around and I get a warm feeling that this is not JUST a business but also a place where you can hang around, share stories and become friends. And, best of all, you get the feeling that you are actually helping someone. Anyway, their only suspected culprit was a computer module, which would have cost around 2,000. Even after the module is installed, you still have to get someone from Ford to come and do the settings, calibration, etc. My daughter was getting a bit anxious as she needs to leave Sunday for MD and does not have that kind of disposable cash. On Saturday, Mark showed up for work which he sometimes does if the weather is not ideal for golfing! [No, he does not go to the nearest car with a wood club like Erin.] He usually closes at noon but NOT on this day. He decided to take a plunge; he explained to EM that the next option would be that the car, a Ford Explorer, be given a new alternator on the presumption that the earlier new alternator is defective. With a little bit of anxiety, she packed the car, drove straight to Philly (where my parent/aunt/and others live,) spent the night and arrived home all nice safe and warm in Takoma Park. Mark reminds me of my Dad in many ways. If he finds a way to fix a problem cheaper, he will explain it to you and let you decide. As prices go, he is neither cheap nor one of the cheapest. But, he is also not too expensive. He somehow had struck a right balance. He is a mechanic who actually earned every dollar for his work and you can be sure the quality of his work cannot be beaten for miles around, at least, not at that price. I had a roommate from Amesbury who needed a new timing chain/belt and one of the gear drives. He opted to take the car to another mechanic (cuz his Dad told him that Mark costs too much) who quoted $200 cheaper. Two weeks later, this friend actually ended up returning his car, not only for shoddy repairs reasons but also because that mechanic did not tell him about possible additional parts that usually happens with timing chain, forking over $600 MORE! Ahh, I will close by saying that Mark is the first guy I will go to, for the foreseeable future.
