I enjoy sitting inside at one the booths and enjoying a piece of home. The pizza is nice and thin but not paper thin to where they fall apart and can't hold a fold. Their cold sub sandwiches are good and they make great salads I can recommend the chefs salad (yeah I eat salads).The meatball parm sub is great, as is the chicken parm sub. M&S is our go-to pizza place and has been for years. My wife and I usually go on a Sunday night for a couple of slices and have never, ever been disappointed. In fact, we usually look at each other and say, "Gee, this is good pizza!" - really... The restaurant looks like it was built from my memory of how pizza places looked in my youth. Nailed-down tables with attached benches, a front counter with the purple and orange mystery soft drinks circulating under glass (who drinks that stuff?), huge pizza ovens cranking away behind the counter and an Italian looking fellow (direct from central casting) making pie after pie. As for the taste? Well, the sauce is wonderful, the cheese fresh and applied expertly - not too much, just enough and of course, the crust, not too thin, not too thick and crisp enough to hold up to so you can enjoy a folded slice (the way God eats his pizza). I'm not sure why there is an M&S AND an M&S II - about a mile apart - but after trying them both, we definitely prefer the pizza at M&S. And, if you try their pizza, I think you will too. read more

I moved up in the area about a year ago and have been slowly trying new places for various items, including pizza of course. I knew early and have confirmed a few times: THIS is my place! I LOVE their Sicilian pizza. It's an old-school, fresh, golden crust, with a silky tomato sauce very similar to Dickie Dee's the place I used to go to in Newark (Italian Hot Dogs!). Same type of old plastic booth seating. Fountain drinks with a basic, simple menu. That's OK by me. My only disappointment is they do not deliver! That bums me out. Some days, I don't feel like going out so I have to have a delivery backup. I'm still looking for that..... If I want good, tasty, delicious pie or sandwiches, I'm going to M&S. M & S Pizza - Sicilian slice and Grape fountain drink. So good! - Pizza Near Me - Dover, New Jersey

Today was the first of two installments in the M&S comparison test. My Rockaway friend swears by the original, so I visited the original first. I consider myself a pizza snob to the core, so here is my comparison against the best that the NYC area has to offer. * Crust: Appropriately thin. I wouldn't call it "soft" like others have, but it's not too crispy. To me, it strikes the right balance. It doesn't overpower the pizza (i.e. too doughy or too much of the slice). I noticed other people ripping off the crust and dipping it in tomato sauce, so it's popular. * Sauce: Reasonable. It seemed a little on the sweeter side as opposed to the savory side, and I prefer the savory side. It didn't have a depth of seasonings to it, no leaves of oregano or what have you within. * Cheese: Too much. A regular pie tastes like an extra cheese pie. And while sometimes too much cheese can be a good thing Okay, let me rewrite that. And while too much cheese is always a good thing, in this case, the cheese isn't cooked enough to where it gets that nice golden crust to it and that umami really starts to percolate. The cheese melts but it's still that pale whitish-yellow of mozzarella that results in the cheese dominating the flavor profile instead of playing nicely with the other elements of the pie. Verdict: A weaker 4/5, but then again, lightyears ahead of pizza outside the NYC tri-state area in general. There is room for M&S II to win this comparison, and my hometown favorites (Mario's in Bloomfield, Pasquale's in Boonton, even Marino's in Parsippany) still place ahead. To be continued... read more

Ordered a veggie pizza. It came with canned mushrooms, bug chunks of broccoli, a crap ton of onions just thrown on and not cooked, and day old olives. The vegetables were not cut to easily bite into and you couldn't pick up the pizza it was so mushy. The pizza was not edible. If you want classic, traditional pizza along with an environment that transports you to the 1960/70 era, this is your place. This is Northern New Jersey pizza done right with no frills. I stop in to get a couple of slices and a small soda.. $4.40. The slices are fresh, the sauce is magnificent, the cheese is tasty, stringy, chewy, and not salty. All of this is presented on a perfect crust. The owners/employees seem to be Italian, though I'm not sure where they're from based on a unfamiliar dialect. Heard great things about this place. Ordered half tomato/onion ended up with literal slices of fat sandwich tomato slices on one side. Pizza must have been in the oven for 5 minutes because the flop on each slice was unbelievable. Mushy center and had to reheat it immediately.
