This was a favorite local Thai place, however the menu has been severely reduced since the business started hosting "Anny's Slots." They no longer serve tofu(!) and you can't get a Thai iced coffee or tea, either. The egg rolls are crispy and mostly noodles; the spicy Thai basil had delicious basil but wasn't spicy (I hesitate to order "spicy" at a Thai restaurant but apparently here one should). I was here early (4pm) on a Friday; the host fired up the kitchen for me. If you want Thai food while playing slots, this is a great place; if you're looking for Thai food full stop, you should probably go elsewhere unless you just need a quick pad thai or yellow curry. Ambiance is fine - seats are comfortable, there are wooden plaques on the walls...table seating only as the booths were torn out for the slot machines. $21 plus tip for egg rolls and spicy (not really) Thai basil. read more

Conveniently located off park and butterfield, this is mostly a carry-out place run by the owner and his wife (the cook) from what we usually have seen. Now the food : albeit, a bit oily, the dishes are usually very tasty and freshly made. BUT*** warning : I must say the dine-in service and pick up was absolutely unprofessional and rude. And time consuming. though I like to give people the benefit of the doubt (and perhaps he had a really bad day) the owner literally and repeatedly came into the restaurant, took over our order and came into my 78 year old mother's face and started yelling at her and called her a nasty old woman because she asked his wife the chef/COOK*-for extra mushrooms. And how dare we criticize his wifes cooking (which we never ever would or had done). !! In actuality, it was the second time my mother had to ask for mushrooms, as they were not put to her expectation the first time. AND-Nor were any added to the order the previous time we had gone and ordered via phone. Which we did not mention. So that's that. but if you do decide to try it anyway - be sure to specify if you do not want dish sauce or egg in the dishes, especially the fried rice. All the best ! read more

I normally only write reviews that are positive but in this case I feel that I need to bring some attention to this restaurant and the owner. When I placed my order I asked to have one of the meals onion free. He promptly ask me to turn around and leave stating that he could not deal with allergies. I said the whole onion pieces were a problem and just wiping the pan out before cooking the onion free order would be fine. This owner was not only rude but also obnoxious. This place is totally a front... It exists only so they can have people play the slots that take up half the dining room. We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived, two or three people came in to play slots, and when we left, there was nobody else there... no other diners. The menu was ridiculously small, especially for a Thai place (no chicken satay? That's like a Chinese place without sweet and sour chicken!). The kitchen was completely dark when we got there, but after the owner took our order, he rang a bell and this meek little Thai (I assume, since the owner told us he used to live in Thailand) lady came scurrying out from the back room. She turned the lights on, and a few minutes later, with nary a cooking sound to be heard, our Trader Joe's frozen appetizer meals arrived at the table. The kitchen lights went off, and the "cook" scurried back to wherever the owner keeps her (there's an equally shady looking "spa" next door... draw your own conclusions). To top it off, I don't know if it's because we were the only people in the restaurant (during prime dinner time), the owner hovered over our table and inserted himself into our conversation. Even after we had paid and were very obviously trying to leave, dude just couldn't take a hint. We finally saw our opportunity to make an exit, and we never looked back. So, no... Can't recommend this place for the food, but if you want to see it before it ends up on Dateline, best get there soon. read more

Wow! I will be shocked If this place is still in business in six months. I have been a loyal customer for 5-6 years. His phone was constantly ringing. In fact it was hard to get my order in The last 2years quality was hit or miss, good or great. The quality falling and the price kept rising this year. The phone was not ringing at all. Today was $40. for two Pad see-ew dinners. The quantity was less than normal. The noodles were Pad-Tai and tasted stale. No sauce at all. I called and nicely told him that "I have been a customer a long time as you know. This is the worst 2 meals I have ever gotten from you. The noodles even taste stale". His response? The noodles are fresh. "Sorry you don't like it. It's been nice knowing you" CLICK! He just hung up. What?? Yes. I won't defend a business that just hangs up without even a discussion. read more

I placed a phone order. Called right back to ask if they added wheat to their food. Proprietor abruptly answered, "I don't know. It's whatever the menu says." I said, "Okay, bye." When I went to pick up the order, I was told that he had never put the order in because I hung up on him. I said that I didn't hang up, I said, "Okay, bye." I shrugged, said, "Fine," and started walking out the door. I turned around and said, "Next time -" The proprietor SCREAMED at me, "THERE WON'T BE A NEXT TIME." As I walked out the door, I said, "You didn't have to be such an asshole." Then he called me a bitch. I can see from other reviewers that the owner makes a point of being rude. I guess he thinks he's doing his customers a favor by feeding them. Either he rudely screams at you or rudely stands by your table and talks while you're trying to enjoy the company of the people you came with. I don't think they'd survive without the slots. This is a good option for Thai cuisine if you are in the area. We visited on a Wednesday evening when things were a bit quiet. The location in a workaday strip plaza on Butterfield Rd. was not elegant. The interior was likewise nothing special. But, at the same, it was also perfectly adequate. There were two other parties in the place at that time when we walked in, which facilitated a nice, sedate atmosphere. The person who waited on us appeared to be one of the proprietors. He was low key, polite and efficient as we received our order in a very reasonable amount of time. There were several Thai favorites on the menu and those are what both my son and I focused on with our selections. He had the Green Curry Tofu while I had the Red Curry Chicken. We were both happy with our choices. In general, if you like Thai fare, this is a decent option in Wheaton. I will likely visit again when I am at my son's place. read more

Wasn't what we expected. Husband made reservations due to COVID and when we walked in it's a small store front with slots and 2 tiny tables one which had a reserved plaque on it for us and another 2 person table. The owner seemed very nice even though he talked to us the whole time. The green curry with shrimp and pad Thai with chicken were really good. Would not spend the money on the crab ragoons as they are tiny. Noticed a lot of people coming in to order carry out. Heard the owner say that they do not take orders over the phone that customers need to come in to place orders. Guess he also doesn't answer the phone to let people know. Over all intresting experience. Probably wouldn't go back to eat there and not being able to order over the phone. Wouldn't want to wait for my order to be done. Yes zero stars...I've liked the food here. Stopped in tonight and the guy working the front was dealing with broken glass. I watched him sweep the floor touch the broom and the dirty end of the dust pan. Then go directly over to the kitchen window and deliver food to two tables. When he got over to my table he asked what i would like, i polietly said I'd like him to wash his hands His response was to tell me he wasn't in a good mood so I had better watch it. He got really angry at me for asking him to wash his hands. I told him I had watched him sweep and touch the broom and dust pan then go straight to handling food. I then walked out. I will call the health department too. I had thought he was just busy and didn't think of it, now I know its that he didn't care. Too bad I liked the food, I wonder if the people in the kitchen knows how he treats customers and ignores basic health code. It looks like a little hole-in-the-wall in a small strip of shops, but don't let the looks fool you. I came in on opening day and it was a little shaky. They didn't have a credit card machine, and like others have mentioned the portions were incredibly small. Three months later a lot has changed. It's family owned. The wife is a Bangkok trained chef, and the husband is hopefully a really good salesman. I say that because he helps out from time to time, but he doesn't know the menu or what the food looks like. I gave this place four stars because of the food. I worked at a Thai restaurant and I would constantly get pad Thai. At M & W I get everything. I have not tried a bad dish. Crab fried rice, Rama Noodles, Pad see Ew, everything. The portions are larger then when they opened. The dishes tend to come out looking different every time I order them though, but always good. read more

This was our 3rd visit to M&W. As a work group, we have weekly trips to many area Thai places. The first visit was shortly after opening. The service was poor, the soup cold, the food overpriced for lunch, and the quality ho-hum. But that can be forgiven right after opening. Our 2nd trip was marginally better, albeit awkward (listening to the owner berate the chef in the back). We decided to give it another shot. Wow.. big mistake. I'd love to comment on the food, but we couldn't get that far. We walked into an empty restaurant shortly after noon on a Thursday and asked for a table for 5. The host (owner) offered us a booth with a chair on the end. We did not feel like squeezing and I asked if we could put two tables together. He informed me that we only do that with a reservation (you know, because everyone makes reservation for 5 people for a strip mall restaurant on a Thursday afternoon). I thought he was joking, but he was dead serious and we were speechless. After one in our group suggested that maybe we just go to another place, he very rudely told us that, yeah, maybe we should. As we left he became even more rude (as if he was surprised we were actually leaving) and told us no other restaurant could accommodate us. We drove up the road to Simply Thai in Wheaton where were greeted with a friendly smile by both the cooks and the the server. Unless you are taking a College of DuPage class on how NOT to run a restaurant, skip this place. Fantastic! My to go items are the shrimp rolls and curry fried rice with pork. My husband really likes the curry salmon and coconut milk. Cutest couple ever own this place and they are there six days a week. Pam B. needs to get a clue if she thinks she can show up at a mom and pop ethnic restaurant WITHOUT a reservation with a party of 16 and think this restaurant or any restaurant will be able to provide excellent food and service with no advance warning. M & W Thai Restaurant is our favorite Thai restaurant! I love their Cashew Fried Rice that is full of cashews, fresh vegetables, and pineapple and your choice of protein. My husband loves the Panang Noodles. The gracious owner is friendly and a wonderful conversationalist. We have lived in Minneapolis and Chicagoland and enjoyed quite a few great Thai restaurants. Had high expectations. Garlic Noodle dinner dish was comically small; five tiny pieces of pork and 1 scoop of Ramen noodles. Taste was good, but was appetizer size for $11. While we had dinner, a take out customer came back in to ask why they only got 2 egg rolls for $5, they appeared to be perplexed by the small portion size. Being generous with 2 stars because I don't like to promote negativity but this could be so much better. So where to start? This restaurant has a bit of an identity crisis. Is it a sit down place to get waited on, a quick take out place to order or is it a happy hour place to grab drinks and eat some spring rolls? We may never know I came here back in early September and was immediately confused upon walking in. To the left, a full bar with a TV. To the right, a few tables for eating. In the back corner, there is a carryout or ordering counter with no menu to order from. There is no posted sign that says sit yourself or order here. So being my first time here you have to understand how confusing this is bc you have no idea what to do with yourself. After placing my order from a pamphlet, I waited a good 15-20 minutes at the bar and chatted with the owner. Seemed like a nice guy but I could tell this might be his first go at the restaurant industry. I've worked in the industry half my life and could smell the oblivious newcomer on him. We went with the basics: pad thai, crab wontons, basil fried rice. Food was ok but nothing spectacular or memorable. I'm hoping that this review will provide some constructive criticism because I would never want to see a business fail. Pros: Easy to find location, crab wonton sauce was awesome. It was a pineapple sweet and sour which was the best part of the meal. Cons: First, there need to be a visible menu and sense of direction upon entering (host, sign menu, anything!). Next, scrap the bar idea bc most people are not going to drink at a thai place in a mini mall unless you have the ambience that people want to hang out at. This is definitely not a trendy night spot to be at. Next, the service needs to be faster and food needs more seasoning and flavor. The pad thai was bland and not enough chicken or vegetables and same for the fried rice. Last, prices are too high for the area. Decided to try this place out do to it proximity to the Arboretum. Heater had just gone out so the place was chilly. Therefore we all ordered hot tea. What we got however was lukewarm tea. I could stick my finger in the cup. I eat Thai frequently. The food was just ok and the portion size to price ratio was off. I had a noodle dish and my husband had a curry dish. My was OK, but my husband found his to be very disappointing. The curry was also very high priced for the size of the dish. Will not be back. read more

Wow. We just moved to this side of town and just ordered from here a few days ago. We were really blown away. Beats Thi Pi and Thai Express. It's the best Thai we've had since moving here from the east coast. Seems like it's a husband wife team. The husband run the front and the wife is the chef, cooking it up so u can see. We took out but there's plenty of dining room space. BYOB. We will now be new regualars. The crab Rangoon was probably something you'd try at a gourmet restaurant. They serve it with this special papaya chutney or something of the sorts. read more

Harry, the co-owner, is a terrific guy, great personality and a skilled conversationalist, but a terrible waiter. For months I was a regular there (it's convenient since I'm a bachelor living in a nearby apartment building). I would habitually stop at a nearby liquor store and buy a bottle of Grosch beer, then brown bag at M&W. This was before they had a liquor license. In all the months I did this, not once did Harry clear the brown bag from the table. Did he think I wanted to keep it? It was a little detail, but it irked me. He never clears anything from the table. He's notorious for not refilling water and jumbling orders and being, I'll say it, a little stingy. Then there's the size of the portions. Some dishes raise eyebrows they are so small. After many many weeks of eating their fare, I settled on fried rice as their best and hardiest dish. But last time I went for that, it was off. Everything else is good but on the average side. I have to say on their behalf that they did very well in catering two parties of mine, but I haven't been there in months now. read more

M&W Thai is incredibly delicious. They are a brand new business, and with all new businesses, things take time. It was a little bit of a wait for the food, but it is worth it. Ann is one of the owners and she is also the head chef. She makes all of her dishes from scratch, which is a big relief from all of the pre-made dishes from other restaurants around the area. She not only makes a delicious dish, but she really puts effort into the aesthetics. My plate was beautiful. I definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for authentic Thai food. My husband and I love ordering from here. The owners are so friendly and down to earth that we look forward to going there just to see them. Don't let the appearance scare you, it's super clean on the inside. The food is out of this world! Everything that we have ordered has always been flavorful and very filling. I am a big fan of the Crab Rangoon, Red Curry and Pad Thai. I'm not good with overly spicy foods but the cook does a really good job at making it to my spice tolerance level. It is a tad on the pricy side but the portions are big enough to make it last multiple meals. I definitely recommend this restaurant! read more

We enjoyed our lunch here. The Ocean Pad Ped Ped was flavorful and spicy with large mussels and other seafood. The Mee Krob was the best I've had. The Pad Thai Tofu was solid but the peanut sauce was a little oily. Service was fine, nothing special. Not attentive enough to the water glasses. read more

Finally decided to drive over to see if the place is open, and sure enough it was. Called from parking lot and a man answered. Said they don't pick up when they are busy. Then he laughed. I explained this is not the first time this has happened. Laughed again then hung up. Drove away and won't be back. Only a few people were in the restaurant. So many ways to resolve "don't answer the phone issue" and just blows me away that their customer service is so horrendous. read more
