Mongolian Ribeye
Laurence P.

Trying yet a new Thai place. Crab Rangoon did not taste like traditional ones - more of a pastry than wonton wrappers (not bad - just different) and filling was 99% cream cheese. Egg rolls were solid, and so was the Pad Thai. The Ribeye Mongolian really lacked flavor, which was too bad. Meat sliced paper thin, so could have been amazing but came a bit short. ‍

Driest seeet and sour chicken I've ever had. It was supposed to have xtra sauce .

I got the sweet and sour chicken. I asked for extra sauce and it seemed like it had less sauce. The chicken is tough and very very salty. If I wasn't so hungry I'd have tossed it.

Cozy Thai restaurant in the Woodbridge seven bridges area. We ordered Buttered Pad Thai, pad see ew noodles, fried spring rolls and chicken wings. The buttered pad thai was unique and very tasty. Sweet & spicy Chicken

I stopped by VIP Thai for an early dinner while visiting some friends in Naperville. There are two tables outside, presumably for outdoor seating. Staff were very welcoming and we were seated very quickly on a Saturday. Service was prompt and attentive. I ended up trying the sweet and spicy chicken. It ended up being surprisingly good. Chicken was crispy and not overly drenched in sauce. The texture of the chicken felt slightly overcooked. The vegetables were fresh and still had a nice bite to them which I enjoyed. I was worried it might be too salty, but it was balanced right. If you are looking for dessert after your meal it is conveniently located right next to a Coldstone. Overall pretty tasty and I would come back to try other items on their menu.

Crazy Noodles with beef

Not our first time here, but first time reviewing it. We are in the process of moving so just needed some good warm Thai food to end the day. We shared some vegetarian spring rolls that were hot crispy and delicious. Also got a family sized portion of the Tom Kha soup. Little sweeter than I'm used to so we weren't a super fan of their version of the soup. Then we shared the beef noodles and green curry with salmon both good but for medium spicy wasn't hot enough so next time we would need to go a little spicier. It's a small restaurant so the servers were busy on a Wednesday night, but service was quick enough. It's in a strip mall so ambience is OK but when you go for Thai food, not necessarily there for the ambience; a lot of carryout orders I could see.

Wilted and tasteless

VIP Thai has been a favorite for us for years. We ordered tonight it it was not the same dishes we used to love. The rice was over cooked and mushy. Pad Krapoa had little to no flavor and wilted basil (if that's what it was). This used to be a spicy and delicious dish. It was unrecognizable. The Red Curry wasn't the same either. Even the crab ragoons were burnt on top and had little flavor. So sad as this was regular for us.

Plenty of parking Prices were reasonable ($12) Service was good (the waitress did forget some things but she would bring it out quickly and apologize). She was very friendly. It seems most people order to go here. Not too many people dining but maybe cause we ate early around 5. They conveniently take apple pay. Bathroom decently clean. I ordered green curry and it was manageable spice level until I accidentally ate a jalapeno. Tried the sweet mango rice and it was delicious!!

Pad Thai, Orange Chicken

I'm usually a huge fan of Thai food, but this place missed the mark for me (it could've just been what I ordered though, so take what I say with a grain of salt). I thought the pad Thai was a bit dry and the orange chicken was really tough to chew. The service and restaurant itself are pretty nice, but I think there are better Thai places in the surrounding area that I'd choose before heading to this one.

We were trying to find a place to eat dinner nearby and noticed them which were practically next door. We ordered Shrimp Fried Rice and Ribeye Steak with Mushrooms for carry out. The prepared the order quickly and within a few minutes, the order was ready. Upon picking up the order, we noticed how nice the establishment was inside. The Shrimp in the dish was jumbo shrimp which was a nice surprise. Both dishes were only okay due to lack of flavor. They were skimpy in the number of soy and sweet & sour sauce (2 of each). They were nice enough to give us 2 fortune cookies (one cheated me out of a fortune, LOL). NOTE: They have a Chicago location in Chinatown as well.

This one's building looks like a beautiful lodge. While there is an online Yelp waitlist (that goes up to 6 people), we had a party of 8 so I called the restaurant and they were happy to put my name down for a reservation. We came to celebrate my dad's birthday. We brought a cake to share, and when we arrived, our server was gracious enough to store it in the fridge until we were ready. We had 6 adults and 2 kids. Kids under a certain height (I forget the details exactly) are free. So we didn't have to pay for the little ones, and not like toddlers appreciate hot pot anyway. It was more, "how do we make sure they don't touch the pot?!" which went totally fine. It's to position the high chairs the furthest away from the knobs/hot surfaces. On our end of the table, we got the half-half broth of classic marrow and the gold cabbage marrow. The golden marrow was SO GOOD. I would get this again and again, because it's hot/sour; the flavor of pickled cabbage and the spice of Szechuan peppercorns. Our server said the spice builds over time, and it did. It was so flavorful that I barely used my dipping sauce. If you like hot/spicy and sour, choose this broth, it is DELICIOUS. The sauce station and the prepared food buffet was located in the middle-back of the dining area. It's a little packed and cozy in there, especially during the dinner rush, you may need to wait a little longer or keep an eye on the area to determine when to get out of your seat. This same area has self-service personal ice cream cups, soda, additional toppings/veggies/proteins, buffet (fried rice, fried chicken, egg rolls, fried buns) AND the sauce station. What I did love is there was a gentleman who was making balloon animals/hats/characters for sale near the front of the restaurant. He says he does this occasionally when he doesn't have other gigs like parties or weddings, etc, so my kiddo and my niece each got a cat and a bunny, respectively. This made their day! And it was nice for them not to be strapped into a high chair the whole time, and have something to entertain them. Overall, 4 shining stars! It would have been great if they had private and semi-private rooms like the Bridgeport location, but I think this wasn't possible due to their building. It looked like they took over a from a Mangia Bubala Roadhouse (Italian and Jewish fare) which took over from a Connie's Pizza. This place has gone through some changes, but it looks like Happy Lamb will be there for the long-run.

They changed chefs or something and the food started tasting different. Not bad necessarily, just not as good as it was. Fast forward to present time, this location has randomly closed again without any notice for 8 months. They finally re-opened this week under a new name "Joy Yuan" but inside is exactly the same. Still extremely stark, sterile, and depressing, but it still has Joy Yee branded plates? It's a little confusing. Half of the boba menu is crossed off now too. As for the food, I'd say it's mostly the same but the won ton soup took a turn for the worse. The broth almost tasted dirty oily and burnt but the wontons themselves were good. Usually the broth is super savory and garlicky, but that was not the case. We also ordered egg rolls and the size and presentation of these has changed at least 3 times since they first opened. They're big again but have that odd burnt/oily flavor to them. The chicken fried rice remains the same, the orange chicken was good as well and we decided to try the mixed mushroom chow fun which everybody enjoyed. I was also happy to see that they had the mango passion fruit freeze (add strawberry popping boba) that remains the same and is delicious. I need to try the traditional milk teas to see if they're still the same too. Service is still the same with a lot of the same staff still working there. It's not good but it's not bad, they're just efficient. This isn't a sit down place where you're catered to if that's what you're looking for. I don't know, I'm torn about the new ownership or whatever they did under the new name change. The food seems the same for the most part but it's also not at the same time. Our experience wasn't bad, and I'm willing to try it again but it seems that this place has lost its spark.
