Now that I'm watching The Bear, every restaurant after running awhile -14 years that I know of- will experience some ebbs and flows as Chefs/Mgrs move about life, but consistently I have found this place to be the best around, edging out also beloved Thai Kitchen in Lombard which is take out only. Maybe not in chi city but certainly around these DuPage boonies.. Tonight for the first time I dared myself to get the green chicken curry - the hotter one. (It's the opposite of Mexican! Holy shit he said to Self) For some reason unlike normally, I didn't ask them forany extra veggies, didn't tell them to cool it down, I didn't say anything I just said give me the green curry with chicken. And it was easily the best thing I've eaten in months. Perfect balance of chicken to vegetables to this authentic curry sauce which brought me right up to my heat limit but no more and the taste was full, varied and incredible! Haven't had a dish we don't like. We have lots of options even with some diet-specific restrictions that vary in our family. They have vegetarian options. Portions are generous, so $17 for Pad Thai is nothing to gripe about. Service can be slow, but it's worth it - go with someone who's not in a hurry and whose company you enjoy. read more

We ordered pad see ew and it was as if the cook scraped up all of the burnt pieces from the pan and put it in our food. There were also wood splinters in my noodles. Overall, this place is one of the better Thai places in the suburbs. They have a good selection of Thai currys and overall that's what I come here for. Their other menu items don't stand out to me. I'll be back to get take out if I'm in the area for curry. Quality- the panang, duck, and pineapple curry is delicious. It is thick, flavorful, and filled with well cooked meat. Quantity- a lot of curry comes out which is nice. The rice is a bit lacking in quantity tho. I'd rather bring it home with my rice. Atmosphere- I like coming here if I can get a window seat. The rest of the restaurant is a bit gloomy. Service- quick fast service. No complaints read more

I haven't been to this place since before the pandemic, but always enjoyed the food. Not the best Thai food, but some of the best in the western suburbs. I recently had an opportunity to get reacquainted. Thought I would share my experience. First thing I noted is that the atmosphere was very different. The lighting is very different for example. It is way too bright, and they have to amp down on the wattage. What was once a charming, almost romantic restaurant now almost feels like you're in a cafeteria. Also, I could be wrong, but I seem to recall a charming elephant statue in the restaurant that seems to have been removed. However, the food was excellent. We ordered the platter appetizer, and each one was well cooked and delicious. As to the entrées, my son had the fish and I had the duck pad Thai. I can't say if it's because of new owners or a new chef, but the food actually tasted quite a step above what I previously experienced. I would definitely go back and I would still recommend this restaurant. However, you might not want to forget your shades to wear under the surgical room type lighting they now have installed. read more

Ordered through Uber Eats (which did a great job delivering- no issues with them). Liked the ability to customize dishes ordered on line. I did just that. Too bad the restaurant didn't. I end up getting a dish with items I didn't necessarily want and not getting the items I wanted. Why give you all those options if you're going to ignore them?! read more

Every time I come to Thipi Thai the service is great. The staff is courteous and attentive. I've tried many things over the years here, pineapple curry chicken, edamame, cashew tofu, dumplings, tom kha gai, Thai tea and coffee. My wife and I have been coming here for so long, I can't remember when we started. The food is second to none! Having said that, we won't be coming back. One, because having a gratuity foisted upon us doesn't feel right. You give a gratuity for service, not because a person hands you a bag. I heard about this place from another meetup group who had a group dinner here. Since I'm in the general area I've wanted to try it because I love Thai food. I finally came here on the way back from a hike on 08/25/21 because I was hungry. It was close to closing time so the place was empty. The service was fast and waitress very friendly. The food was outstanding! I loved the Tom yum soup with shrimp and got it extra spicy. I also had mixed vegtables in brown garlic gravy and those were outstanding too! Love this place. So hot and fresh every time. I always get the Paw Siew, Basil fried rice, and fried veggie spring rolls. I always add carrots and green beans to the fried rice and omit egg from it and also omit egg from the pad siew. I could eat here every day. So excellent! read more

Visited here after seeing a movie at the Glen Art theatre. Fantastic decor! Friendly staff. Clean restrooms. Now about the food...ordered Tom Kha, it was hot and delicious. It had chicken and just the right amount of fish sauce. Very aromatic with just a bit of spicey pepper flake. So I had great hopes for the Lard Na. But I was disappointed. The beef was tender with good flavor but the pan fried noodles were not pan fried. Seems they were just mixed into the sauce after being cooked and skipping the pan fry touch. If you've never had Lard Na that way you may think this was a good dish. In fact I dropped a huge amount of leftovers at my dad's place and he enjoyed it. There was so much sauce I almost couldn't see the beef and noodles. More like a stew? And the brown sauce had an odd flavor. Maybe they added sugar to it? This could be just their version but I have never had Lard Na with a sweet sauce. Maybe I will change the three star rating after I try another meal here but for now the 3-star stands. read more

I came here with my friend for lunch on a Monday around noon. The place was empty of customers. We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer and it was absolutely awful! They were stale, dry, cold and the sauce was gross. We did not eat the dish. I ordered a noodle dish that came back to me completely brown, except for the two large pieces of red bell pepper in the dish. The dish wasn't terrible tasting, but after a few bites I was ready to be done. The lack of texture and color grossed me out. We paid the bill and left. This was my second try at finding a place that could accomodate my request for yellow curry stir fry like my favorite Thai place makes back home. I'm glad I didn't give up and order something else at the first place. Thipi Thai is downtown and was a bit hard to get to due to the downtown layout which seems to be more geared for pedestrian traffic than vehicle traffic. I like that layout and so no complaints... just be patient with the bikes and people... the food is worth it and people enjoying a nice day is always a welcome sight to me in a community. The person who greeted me at the door helped me with my to-go order. I let her know my special request and she didn't want to get my hopes up but offered to go ask the chef. She came back with the good news. I had them replace the rice with extra cabbage and ordered it with pork. It was SO good! I hope they put this on their menu. The food here was delicious but service abysmal. The server forgot to put in my order and when I reminded him of it (half way through everyone's meal) he remembered and put it in. Before stopping into Thipi Thai, I read a series of mixed reviews on here. I was kind of concerned with the reviews become some were glowing and other's were absolutely dismal. But I decided to take the risk and stop in. I ordered the Stir-Fry Vegetables with Chicken. This is legitimately the simplest dish they could possibly put on the menu. I mean, how can you mess that up?? Well, they managed to mess it up. The dish didn't taste like nothing, but rather something bad. The flavor was weird and made me kind of sick. The white rice was great, but the sauce was horrible. Also, for ten dollars, the dish was quite small and unfulfilling. Oh and did I mention that horrible scent that I was greeted by when I walked in???? Well, it smelled like a sewer when I walked in. I don't know what that was about, but it's not something I want to be smelling while eating my dinner. I generally am a pretty easy person to please at a restaurant. Give me good food, be nice, and have a good/clean environment. Unfortunately, Thipi Thai did not meet my expectations. read more

Thai Kitchen in Lombard is better and doesn't automatically include an 18% gratuity. We normally tip 20%+ standard so it isn't the 18%. It is the fact you are automatically including tip. I'll support a better product and drive a little out of the way. read more

The food used to be good at the Glen Ellyn Thipi Thai, but not any more. We have it several try's recently and are convinced it's no longer a good option for us. We have had too many consecutive disappointing experiences. Coconut shrimp too thinly hammered and burnt. Kung pao chicken and kung pao steak was sub standard. They could not accept our gift card issued from the Lagrange location. The staff did not even know how long ago the ownership changed. The ambiance remain s peaceful and casual, but the food over the past year has degraded so severely we just cannot see ourselves coming back. It's a big disappointment since it used to be consistent with the Lagrange location. The LaGrange location moved a couple doors down but still has great food. My humble advise is to stay away from the thipi Thai in Glen Ellyn. They are not affiliated with LaGrange any more and it's to their disadvantage. The best Thai is at Thipi Thai in LaGrange. The Glen Ellyn owners should reflect on their current state and bridge the gaps or they are doomed. read more
