Austin, the gentleman who took care of me, was super welcoming and helpful, finding ways to save me money and thoroughly explaining in detail what was wrong with my car. He went over what was more important and of higher priority. Compared to the other places, which quoted me ridiculous prices before even looking at my car, ATL's approach was far more satisfactory. They are also flexible to offer parts options to help lower the total cost of repair. They say all of their techs have senior experience, and they were able to get my car in quickly- some other garages have wait times of up to a week. I checked their hourly rates, they are in line with other garages I have used in the past. They seem to have a very smooth and efficient system set up, they handle a lot of cars with the large garage space they have, and they do a good job communicating and providing updates. No major overhauls , but a couple of brake jobs and replacing some belts if I'm not mistaken. Our experience thus far is that he has always come across as honest and trustworthy. For instance, he'll let you know if only your front brakes need to be changed and the backs still have a couple of years left on them. He does not seem to be one to gouge. We are about due for another brake job on a new vehicle and will be giving him a call soon. I would expect for the same level of service and professionalism to continue. One final thing, you have to keep in mind that he is basically a one man show, sometimes with a helper, but no secretary or front desk help. He's a man trying to make an honest living and has carved out his niche in South Austin, mostly by word of mouth referrals. With that said, cut the guy some slack on the call-backs.

I truly wanted this to be a positive experience, but unfortunately it was not…read more I brought my 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan (about 79,000 miles) to Austin's Automotive Specialists in November 2025 for an oil leak. After their inspection, I approved additional repairs and paid $2,006.64, picking up the car on Nov. 17. Within days, the leak was worse. Instead of one leak, I now had two, along with a strong burning-oil smell while driving. I returned on Nov. 21 and was told it was just leftover oil and that everything had been cleaned. That same evening, I discovered the car was leaking from three different places. I brought the car back again on Dec. 2. After no communication all day, I called and was told they found another leaking gasket and wanted an additional $400. I was also told that "oil leaks are tricky on Volkswagens," but a properly diagnosed repair should not turn one leak into multiple new leaks in a matter of days. At this point, I declined further work. I paid over $2,000 and ended up with a car in worse condition than when I brought it in. I requested a refund in writing and never received a response. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this shop.
