The staff was so kind and helped explain all the facilities and gave suggestions on which to use at what time. The treatment itself was heavenly. And all the facilities were so clean! They have a bunch of different hair/skin products to use after your treatment and they have tea, a coffee machine, water and snacks in case you're in need of some sustenance during your visit. They even have an ATM near the entrance if you forget cash for your tip, or you can Venmo/Zelle. I will 100% be coming back!

There were about 20 guests at any given time in the wet baths area. Love the towels in ice and the cucumber and lemon water The locker area can be a tight squeeze during peak times (especially right before people are starting their massage appointments) so I sat to the side and waited for it to clear out. Only one blowdryer, it is in the restroom in the larger hallway. Please hang your towel and stuff up and don't leave it on chairs or lounger. There wasn't enough lie down lounge space and someone claimed one chair the whole 4 hours I was there (they weren't actively using it)

I felt that the masseur was trying to cover his course of massage, may be with just spending very little extra time on the tight side as needed. When trying to loosen a knot, he would still use his elbow to just push through the knot over and over. Knot is still there. Imagine how uncomfortable it was. He didn't work on the pressure point or may not even notice where the tight area was. My body was not relaxed after the massage. With the high price of this place, I have high expectation but was very disappointed. I guess if you just want to have a relaxing time, it may work. But if you have areas to work on, it is not the place.

Two things that I can't ignore and hope management reads this. 1. There is room for improvement on the locker room getting so crowded. 2. Do NOT trust the sandals. They are plastic and incredibly slippery when wet. Since they are not sized to the individual, it's dangerous. I slipped out of my sandals and fell down the stairs in the large Russian Sauna. This resulted in multiple abrasions and a large laceration on my forearm and I actually got stitches for the first time. Sandals have to be fixed, there's stairs everywhere here. The people in the sauna were super nice and helped me, luckily, I'm pretty fit, but it could've been really really bad. Credit to the staff for not charging me for my time there, honestly, I would've rather paid and left uninjured. I'm not 100% sure that I would return, it just happened today so maybe in time that will change.

One thing to be aware of is that towards the end of the time slot, the showers will be busy and you'll likely have to wait your turn. If you want longer to get ready, I would make sure to be one of the first to get in the showers. The dinner was super yummy and the tea was very nice after the relaxing spa time. They even brought out a cute birthday dessert for me! We did have a slightly awkward experience where one of our dishes was not brought out, but we were not charged and they prepared it upon our request. Thanks for having us, Onsen!

On top of that, my husband sends me pictures of the locker room that was under construction and said guys were going on and out while he was changing. Very disappointing experience compared to the many other massage spots in SF.

The first time I had a scrub I was a little shocked at how effective it was. While the exfoliating technique is between medium and intense, the results are undeniable. The basic scrub is 30 minutes but I highly recommend going for the body scrub acupressure 90 minutes service. Having tried all the spas in the area I can say with confidence that the water temperatures at Imperial are the most reliable. The hot tub is perfectly scorching and the cold dip is perfectly icy, almost unbearable, as it should be. They offer hot and cold water, sometimes have tea. They have a really nice selection of hair dryers to use on the way out, Dyson style. I prefer to go during the week when it's slow but I have also found that during the busiest of times here, the staff does a great job of enforcing the rules of silence. Overall I have enjoyed every single experience here. I can't post pictures because it's not allowed to take photos inside, but the facility is clean, inviting and enjoyable.

The men's and women's areas are separate, which is nice, but the shoe lockers don't actually lock (though you do get a bracelet for your main locker). A few quirks: the water cups are so tiny they are like shot glasses, and they leave the massage room doors open during the session. I think I'll try Kabuki Spa next time to compare.

Unacceptable Massage Experience at M Spa Dear M Spa Management Team, I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the massage service I received at your establishment on Sunday. I had come in for what I hoped would be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, but instead, I was met with a disappointing and uncomfortable session. To begin with, the masseuse I was assigned did not fulfill my request for a full body massage. I had clearly stated my desire for a complete massage, but the masseuse skipped over several areas of my body, leaving me feeling unsatisfied and frustrated. To make matters worse, the session was ended prematurely, denying me the full time I had paid for. Additionally, I was disturbed by the condition of the masseuse. Throughout the session, he was sneezing and coughing, wearing a face mask that made me question whether he was trying to protect himself from a potential illness or if he was already sick. This made me feel uneasy and worried about my own health. When I spoke with the manager to express my concerns and dissatisfaction with the massage, I was met with an unsympathetic response. The manager simply stated that the masseuse had done the best he could and offered me a 15% discount, which I had already received through a promotion. I was left feeling unheard, unappreciated, and frustrated. As a customer, I have always had high expectations for M Spa, but my recent experience has left me questioning the quality of your services and the level of customer care that you provide. I've been to M Spa many times and the quality of the massage is excellent. I love that this is a place only for men. I love that the therapists are not afraid to bend and twist me. I love that the therapists are not afraid to expose my entire back or massage my butt. As an example, I've been to Burke Williams before and got a male therapist but he massaged me like he was massaging a woman.... completely wrapped up except the body part he was massaging. I love that therapists at M Spa don't do that. I have a few favorite therapists but I find that they are only available one or a few days a week, which is hard to schedule. I also find that the therapists are not as good looking as before; while it is not a requirement for a good massage, it does make the massage more exciting and would make me want to go back more often. Otherwise, I could just go to no-frills massage places for half the price. read more

Super clean facility, and polite front desk staff. Small but OK locker area, with 2 adjoining showers and small steam room. Based on other reviews below, I requested and scheduled a massage with Matthew. He was pretty aggressive (sometimes painfully so), and was really big on breathing awareness. The weird thing was what he put over my eyes - like a blindfold - which was unnerving and claustrophobic and uncomfortable in that your eyes had to stay closed and it was freaking out my contacts. I'd like to try it again with a different therapist, but it's hard to judge based on reviews that aren't specific enough to be helpful. read more

Their massages are so amazing! The facilities are very nice and clean and everyone there is so sweet. The waiting room has water and tea while you wait (which is normally very short). I recommend booking an appointment ahead of time to save the heartbreak of not being able to get in! The massage itself was so wonderful! You can choose from gentle to medium to strong. Gentle/medium was perfect; they massage your whole body in a very nice, low lit private room. It was such a great experience, I highly recommend! read more
