You can tell most people are there to actually work out--not just hang around, socialize, or hold up equipment. I really appreciate being in an environment where people are focused, respectful, and using the gym for what it's meant for. The Embry Hills Club is great place to meet your neighbors and have a good time. If you are not member, you are missing out on one the best reasons to live in Embry Hills. The Embry Hills Club was established in 1958 when the neighborhood was first being developed. They offer swimming, tennis, Sand Volleyball and a variety of social activities throughout the year. Opens May through Labor Day. But if the weather permits they have open plays for Sand Volleyball. Usually they have plays after dark around 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Cost for the open play for Volleyball are just $5. They also do the league matches which cost around $55 which is very reasonable compare to other places. The two courts are fully lighted and bright. Plenty of chaise lounges, poolside tables, two sun decks, and a clubhouse for parties. Youth swim team available for children ages 5 and up. The Embry Hills Club has a long connection with ALTA tennis. They have two lighted, recently resurfaced hard  courts. They offer ALTA women's and mixed doubles teams. Overall a nice sports club. Plenty of free parking available in front of the courts.

Two courts mean you almost always have a chance to get some reps in. Courts generally stay in great shape. The lines are always maintained to be straight, but they are easily adjustable. On July 18, 2020, Ichiban Volleyball Club partnered with the Embry Hills Club to open 2 sand volleyball courts. They offer open play, league play, tournaments, and instruction in a COVID friendly environment. The courts are private and Christie Wilson is the owner and operator. New sand volleyball courts, located conveniently inside the perimeter off of Chamblee Tucker Road, Atlanta. They are looking to build a community of volleyballers. You can join for a open play on Sundays from 4 PM to 7 PM, Mondays 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM and Fridays 6: 30 PM to 9:30 PM. They are hosting several tournaments, League plays and you can find them on their site at https://onebeach.bracketpal.com/signup. Also on Sundays they have Skills and Drills from 2 PM to 4 PM to improve your game, which costs just $10 and open play just for $5. You can Venmo using @ich1banvbc. Volleyball in Atlanta has grown tremendously in the past 10 years or so. If you like to be fit, try this place and you will love it. They have ample free parking space in front of the courts. I wouldn't bother signing up as a free agent without knowing members of the team/the captain pretty well. Some of the captains they rely on are as rude, dishonest, and incompetent as the league officials. The league will tell you they can move you to a new team if you don't get along or are mistreated by the team you're assigned to, then they will wait too long or end up not bothering/lie and tell you it's too late as apparently this league is too serious. Even if there are games remaining in the regular season. If you like having rainout games not being made up and credits not being offered as stated in the terms and conditions then go ahead and sign up. If you like being told specific rules have been disregarded because of apparent captain votes the league didn't announce go ahead. If you want to be assigned to a field you didn't sign up for with no explanation or apology, then be scheduled to play starting as late as 10pm go ahead. This is a ripoff and inconsiderate. I have been polite and am being treated like crap. Don't bother discussing refunds in any circumstances. They probably wouldn't give one even if they cancelled the season. If the league disbanded they would probably try to give you leftover shirts as a comp instead of your money back. They had music performances and a DJ and it was everything you would want in a watch party! We had a large group and got sat upstairs, which ended up giving us lots of space. I know they are hosting concerts and stuff here too. The only complaint would be with parking. It was very disorganized and there were not nearly enough spaces. We left and parked across a busy road and walked over. It was fine for us, but could be a challenge if you have small children.

No organization of the bar and no concern about serving people's drinks efficiently.

The facility is beautifully designed and the courts are as top-notch as you might think, with the funky and ominous (read: abandoned) Presidential Hotel as part of the scenery. Couple of critiques here are as follows: the parking allocation is not nearly enough for the amount of visitors here on a daily/nightly basis. I'm hoping the owners will consider expanding that at a later date. also, the court lights are too low and, during night play, the ball gets lost if goes above them. kind of a big miss to make the light poles as short as they are, but I suppose that could be improved in the future as well. Overall, though, having access to covered courts is a luxury we're not really used to in the city. and it's great! Looking forward to future improvements to an already great facility.

First and foremost, I am just your average chick in the sense that I do NOT habitually workout, count my calories, meal prep, etc. I did have a membership at LA Fitness for 3 years (2015-2017) but was really only actively using it for 1 year so I finally made the decision to cancel it. I first step foot into this box July 4, 2017 when my boyfriend invited me to come to their post-WOD ("workout of the day") BBQ. I literally only came for the food, sorry! At the time I still held a membership at LA Fitness and had absolutely NO intentions of committing to another gym; Especially not CrossFit. But of course everyone urged me to give it a try and I left that day with the mindset that CrossFit was a cult (lol). [...Fast forward to March 2018 when the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games were going on...] My boyfriend asked me to come to the box with him every Friday this month to record his WODs and so I did. On the last week of March, he spontaneously bought me a Groupon for their Fundamentals class ($32) and the rest was history... I've never found a fitness program that I enjoyed until I started CrossFit. Reasons why I love this program (and why it works for me): *Your WOD is created for you & released on their app (Wodify) 8PM the night before so you never have to pre-plan before coming. Plus, they're typically only 15-30mins long but it'll get your HR way up there bc of its style of HIIT. *You always work out in groups/classes which is motivating when you feel like stopping mid-workout but everyone around you is still going strong. Everyone is also so welcoming & full of encouragement! *If there is an exercise that you are unable to do, there is always a scaled version of it or some type of exercise you can do to work on those targeted muscles. *There is always a coach present to stretch you out as a group, ensure everyone warms up properly, & guide you throughout the WOD/correct your form if necessary. *They have a great sound system & nothing is better during a workout than music drowning out the sound of your pain. More about the Groupon Deal: Fundamental classes start at the beginning of every month. Classes are MWT @ 7:30PM for the first 4 weeks. You will then graduate to the intermediate class which you will be allowed to attend for the following 2 weeks and decide if you would like to purchase a membership. You get a cool swag bag for joining which includes free monthly body composition analysis at Max Nutrition. More about CrossFit Valitus: Classes are offered 6 days/week (Monday-Saturday) with M-F at 6AM, 7AM, 12PM, 4:30PM, 5:30PM, and 6:30PM and Saturday at 9AM or 10AM. Some Saturdays are partner workouts to which you're more than welcome to bring a friend/family member as long as they're familiar with the WOD's exercises. They're also open on Sundays at 12PM as an open gym so you can come and work on any exercise that needs improvement. Oh, did I mention you get access to Dynamo's Swim Club!? Lastly, there are currently 4 coaches and every single one of them is awesome in their own way. *Crystal--The owner and awesome fundamentals instructor *Art--The head coach who's great at making sure you're stretched out for you WOD and trains our triathlon team *Rene--Beast crossfitter who also holds flexibility and strength training classes a few times a week *Isa--Best WOD DJ and motivator since she Rx's just about every workout (sometimes 2-3x/day!) Whew, that was a long one but I warned you! I know CrossFit may seem intimidating and even scary to the average person but don't knock it till you try it. It's only been a little over 2 months for me and I've already seen changes within my body and PR'd more exercises than I could even count.
