I've never dealt with a business that's been as rude and unprofessional as the owners of M4. I live in the area and was looking for a live-edge slab and some dimensional lumber for a project so I stopped in earlier this year. My initial visit was great. They showed my partner and I around and helped us pick out wood for our table. I provided a list of materials, got a quote, and paid in full with an agreed upon delivery date. Big mistake. The pick up day came, and my order wasn't ready. We agreed on another date. Then that day came, and it still wasn't ready. Third time was the charm, but I arrived only to be told I had wait for the surfacing to be finished. I got home that evening only to realize that two pieces from my order were missing. When I told M4 about the missing wood, I got another round of delayed pick up dates to complete the order. I always had to initiate contact, only to be told repeatedly that the missing wood still wasn't ready. I'd been dealing with this for several weeks when a family emergency popped up and I had to leave town. So, I just left it alone for a few more weeks--but at no point did I ever hear anything from them about the remaining pieces being ready. When I got back to town and re-initiated contact, M4 still did not have my order. More voicemails, texts, visits (all initiated by me--all a waste of time since my order was never there). I finally wrote the owners a direct but very polite/civil email detailing my experience and expressing my disappointment. All I asked for was a confirmed time to pick up my materials. Instead of that, I got a mocking, rude, and incredibly unprofessional reply (attached to this review as an image). Rather than apologize, offer solutions, or acknowledge their repeated screw-ups, M4 would apparently rather mock you for being a difficult customer ("difficult" here means expecting to get what you paid for, in a reasonable time, in a reasonably professional manner. You know, like you'd expect most businesses to operate?). Shortly after Chris's childish email, I was able to show up and collect what I had paid for. That was last interaction I plan to ever have with them or their business. I'd recommend anyone looking for simple, professional dealings with minimal headache to steer well clear of this place. read more

For your home or business, Chris is an amazing craftsman and a very nice guy to work with. He obviously loves what he does and you can tell he enjoys his craft very much. The selection is out of this world and the minute you arrive, ideas start running through your head for pieces you have always dreamt about. We recently bought a unique slab of twisted juniper for our outdoor shower plumbing tower. He helped us find the best wood for our job and gave us a more than reasonable price for the perfect piece. Where do I start? My husband and I were working near the area and decided to stop in and take a look at all the cool stuff we could see from the road. We live in Michigan and wanted a cool souvenir to take back home. This place seemed amazing and the owners seemed so passionate and sweet. We decided on two pieces and put half down at time of purchase (which was around $500) and half later. This was towards the end of May. We said we weren't in a huge hurry so they told us they would be done in July. We never heard anything from them and finally reached out to them. They told us they would be done by the middle of August now. It was past the middle of August and we contacted them again, letting them know we wanted to pick the pieces up Labor Day weekend. We got a text asking which side we wanted finished!!! They hadn't even started on it yet!! We wanted a refund at this point but settled on just getting the one piece and they would keep the deposit portion for that piece. We received the item in the mail only for it to be broken and half finished. They did some work to it but it had barely been glazed and it was broken!!!! Beyond frustrated. We wanted a great piece for our home to have a good memory and now all I have is an ugly piece of broken wood that costs me over $500. I bought a couple of cheap tables from TJ max that looked better than this and cost me about 50 bucks. You live and you learn. There was potential for this to be a beautiful piece with a good memory. Of course since we were not happy about it taking so long we were the bad guys? How dare us be upset for spending a fortune and having no communication?! I would give that place zero stars, if I could. We ordered floating shelves and when we signed the contract Chris and Korinna were offering the full service. Drill the holes for the brackets, level the brackets. We were so happy, turns out they didn't do any of it. The holes they drilled into the floating shelves did not fit and we had to do everything ourselves. When we got our shelves they did not fit at all. We went back and they showed us an attitude like I have never seen before. So we had to drill the holes ourselves. Chris and Korinna are very nice when you give them your money, but as soon they got it, they drop you like nothing. Be aware Korinna does not like immigrants. She started making fun of me, because my spelling in one text message wasn't accurate. read more

If you think this is a rant, skip to the last paragraph. I started talking to Chris over 4 months back about a live edge slab. He owed my brother since he provided M4 Specialties with a stack of Bay Laurel slabs well over 2 years ago, and since then some redwood slabs. My brother had made a deal to finally get paid back by Chris. I was expecting to receive a beautiful table by now. After talking to Chris in person, I found some redwood slabs, and brought them to Chris two months ago. At that time he informed us that he was waiting on a loan to keep his employees busy and that he could use the work otherwise he may have to shut his doors. I thought this was a great opportunity for both of us. When we discussed pricing I didn't ask him for a break, instead I suggested that I could come up with an additional $500 being that I was asking for something custom and special, if he ended up spending more time then he anticipated. I then find out from my brother that the bay slab had too much moisture and that he would need more time to ensure the bugs were eliminated. I didn't hear this from him. But I thought to myself and expressed to my brother and Chris that this extra time is warranted and that I appreciate his concerns and expertise. After a few more weeks I asked Chris about the redwood slabs since they didn't have any issues and could be completed. He said he would get back to me early next week and I should stop by on Wednesday, but he would confirm with me prior. No call, so I texted. On Wednesday he asks me to confirm on Thursday evening for a Friday morning meeting and to plan on being there for up to 3 hours. Thursday evening comes around and I confirm and ask for the time to meet. He gets back to me 1st thing Friday. I say sounds good see u then. He fires back immediately that he has another appt can we move mine to Saturday. I had rearranged my plans to be there on Friday and I booked the weekend. I thought to myself enough is enough! I have the ability to do this project, so I told him if he doesn't have time I will pick up my redwood slabs. He replied extremely rudely that he thought he was going out of business and probably should have because of me and that I was pushy and he is in survival mode. He then said he would do my brothers table but he won't do mine and that I can go to Ikea to get a table. In summary, I looked at the reviews and I believe every 1 star review. I cannot believe a 5 star review for this company. I have nothing against this company or person other than how he treats his clients. PLEASE, think twice before supporting m4 specialties. You will do yourself a big favor by finding a more reputable company to spend your money. I help run a construction company in Marin and I completely understand how tough it is to run a business especially in these times. I also know there are many businesses that are surviving, and more deserving of your money. Don't waste your time or money! read more

You will not find a better selection of gorgeous woods, some local and some exotic. Chris and Korrina are the coolest! They are full of energy, passion and above all, talent! I was lucky enough to live close to them for a short time and utilized that time well -- loitering around Chris and his treasure trove of wood and projects in all stages of completion. All it took was one visit and I was hooked. Chris, Korrina and their crew were all super friendly, knowledgeable, and you can't beat the prices. I've bought wood from them over the years for personal projects and also to hire them to do soup to nuts projects for me. I continue to be in awe of the quality and professionalism.
