I have been a few times for their happy hour, in particular, which is a great option if you're in the area or for before/after a show at the Sie Film Center. They have a few very good snack options and drink options. The aromatic beef is extra seasoned and has a nice potent flavor. The scallion pancake was a good accompaniment to that, as well. Tried the shrimp youtiao last time, as it was good for a quick, small snack. I haven't yet explored the regular menu, but there are a lot of options and ranging prices. Seriously my new favorite dim sum place. It's the perfect combination of casual and upscale. On top of that the service is ON TOP OF THINGS! At the end they apologized for "going to slow" which blew me away because for a packed restaurant because it felt like every 5-10 minutes food kept showing up. The food blew me away. The buttery crispy shrimp, clay pot eggplant, assortment of Xiao Long Bao, scallion pancakes, Ube Cheesecake to go, and shrimp dumpling is what we ordered and I was looking for reasons dare I say nitpicking things that could be changed and I was running out of things to say. Okinawa, a contemporary Japanese restaurant, occupied this space for exactly 15 years, closing in December 2025. The owners wanted to refresh the concept and came up with "Ma's Kitchen," a Chinese restaurant featuring dim sum (particularly dumplings and buns), noodle soups, and a handful of traditional entrées. Note that there are two Ma's Kitchens, this large space facing Colfax plus "Ma's Kitchen Next Door," a small space with a more limited menu, in the rear of the building, facing York Street. I had noticed a big, "Soft Opening," banner that morning so we thought we'd give it a try. We were the first to arrive for dinner service. The staff was very friendly and enthusiastic. The space looked great, clean and modern with nice decorative touches. The kitchen was very fast. We ordered a variety of dishes, starting with the Scallion Pancakes and the Fried Sesame Balls. The "pancakes" arrived cut into triangles. They were very savory and deliciously crunchy. The sesame balls were also very crisp and filled with a tasty red bean paste. My girlfriend, who has lived in Japan, was eager to try them and thought they were very authentic. We then ordered the Shu Mai, an open-topped dumpling containing a pork mixture and topped with orange Masago (capelin roe). They were very pretty and quite tasty, but I was a little disappointed by the gummy wrappers. Finally, we tried the Braised Beef Brisket Noodle Soup with the Ramen noodles. The presentation was beautiful, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was flavorful. The brisket could have been a bit more tender. Some pieces also were wrapped in an excessive amount of fat. We enjoyed our meal. The many flavors and textures were very appealing. The staff was excellent, very knowledgeable and very interested in what we thought of the new menu. The space is very comfortable. We came here for a light lunch with the puppy, which is allowed on the patio! Having previously been to the Ma's dim sum next door prior to the expansion, I was pretty excited about this opening next door. The menu seems a little bit bigger and they now have a full service bar with a great cocktail menu (their take on an espresso martini is great). We ordered the shrimp and pork dumplings, xo soup dumplings, daikon rice cake, and xo green beans. The food arrived promptly and the portion size is generous, especially for the price. Everything is super tasty, especially the green beans. I wish the soup dumplings had a little bit more soup, but the flavor is great. Would highly recommend this place! read more

This might honestly be my favorite dim sum in Denver. Ma's Kitchen recently took over the former Okinawa space on East Colfax and it made a great first impression. The space is beautiful with an elegant but still welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the meal. The service was fantastic. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there, which always makes the experience even better. The drinks were well balanced and thoughtfully made, and the food was easily the highlight. Everything we tried was excellent. Not a bad bite in the bunch. One thing to note is that this location is different from the more casual Ma's Kitchen next door. This one feels more like a full sit down restaurant experience. If you're a dim sum fan, this spot is definitely worth checking out. read more

We made it here on Sunday, a day after their grand opening. We were very happy with the food that we had. The restaurant is a little small and cozy but it has a great vibe inside. We had a reservation and we were quickly sat at a table. We went ahead and ordered a lot of different dishes. The highlights were the spicy soup dumplings, the clay pot eggplant and the ube cheesecake. We started off with the mushrooms which were cold but had a great sesame flavor 8/10. The hot and sour soup was very good and had nice amount of spice 8/10. The vegetable dumplings were pretty good 6.5/10. The Chinese broccoli was tasty but had a lot of sauce at the bottom of the plate 6/10. The Schezwan Chicken had a lot of great flavor and spice and we really like the way it was coated 9/10. The pepper chile chicken was also very good 9/10. The scallion pancakes were a little bland and tasted like oil. The claypot eggplant had great depth of flavor 10/10. The spicy soup dumplings were something special 9.5/10. For dessert we finished with the red bean paste dessert 5/10 mild flavor. The ube cheesecake was something special 10/10. All in all we are happy to have a spot like this on Colfax. We had a hard time finding parking with all the construction, however we learned that they had a parking lot out back. The servers were friendly however they didn't come check on us or refill our waters. We also would have liked to order more food but they never stopped by to ask how we were doing or clear our plates. I can say that this was only their second day open, so everything wasn't expected to be perfect. We look forward to coming back again soon! read more

I really like stopping here whenever possible. The food (eggplant hot pot, green beans, dim-sum, etc.) is so good. The staff, including Lin, are welcoming, friendly, and helpful when ordering new things. The restaurant has a cozy warm feel to it. Ma's Kitchen on Colfax is such a great new addition to the area. The space feels modern but still really warm and inviting, making it perfect for anything from a casual dinner to drinks with friends. The menu does a great job blending classic Asian flavors with modern touches, and everything we tried was really well balanced and flavorful. The cocktails were also a highlight. Bailey behind the bar was fantastic, super friendly, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations You can tell she really knows the menu and cares about giving people a good experience. Just finished eating here and was unfortunately very, very disappointed. We came in, there were maybe 3 other tables eating. We weren't really greeted so we approached the bar and asked for a table. We got seated and our server Jackie was very inattentive. Took quite awhile to take our order (considering we could see she had only one other table) and we ordered the garlic chicken, sesame balls, scallion pancakes, and veggie buns. The balls and the pancakes came out first and they were delicious. Both fresh and crispy! Then we noticed we had no silverware, soy sauce dishes, or napkins. We asked for some and got a not very friendly response from both Jackie and the bartender. The chicken came out after that. It was 1000% undercooked. But I was too scared to say anything with how rude they were moments before. My friend didn't really enjoy her veggie buns, said it tasted more like the mixings of a normal bun but the meat removed, not really anything special. They could definitely tell we didn't like the chicken as we did not even touch it, and instead of asking if everything was ok, they avoided our table entirely. Once we asked for the check, we waited 10 MINUTES for her to run the card- still while watching her slack off behind the bar. When she came to run the card, she asked if we had ordered an item that was never on the check or talked about. And then just took the card without any real confirmation of what we were being charged for. Maybe some of the food is good, but the meat was absolutely revolting. I'd like to hope the service is better on other days. Will not be coming back to find out. read more

Made reservation for 4 at 1230 pm two weeks in advance for Mother's Day and confirmed the reservation a couple days before. When we arrived there was no reservation! Was told we could have a table but would need to be done by 2 pm. We finished up at 1:30. We heard good things about the food and wanted to try it but we found the dishes to be okay. read more

Food was very, very delicious. I enjoyed the atmosphere. Overall good service. The cucumber salad was soooo tasty and the flavors were spot on. The dumplings in chili oil were tooo good. The bao bun was perfect, not dry at all. It was very light ant airy. I got the coconut buns so they were just the right pint of sweetness. read more

Amazing staff, impeccable ambiance, and delicious food! The Wood Ear mushroom salad was fresh and crisp and the coffee lamb rack was perfect, dumplings were amazing as well, hot and sour soup was fresh and fragrant. Nice to have this place on Colfax, but I wish they offered pork dumplings without mushrooms or shrimp, the beef ones were ok but not as flavorful as the pork would be; their garlic chicken dim sum was just average. I guess it's dark meat and I prefer white meat. The servers were awesome! read more

This was my first time here after having it highly recommended by a friend and I was completely shocked at the poor service and disrespect we received. Without so much as a valid reason or explanation, the server approached our table and denied us service saying she was uncomfortable serving us. Felt as if we were negatively profiled before we even sat down. We went in for dinner, didn't order any alcoholic beverages and weren't going to either. We asked to speak to the manager as he didn't give us an explanation either.
