Beer is decent, bartenders/owners are nice, only bad part is service is super slow even when it's not terribly busy because of how they're set up with 2 counters and only 1 bar, so if you're not really aggressive you will just get passed over. Somehow that's part of the charm though; I've been coming by a few times a year for over a decade and haven't yet been disauaded. There's a couple of high top tables on the fully indoor side and big 8 person tables in the beer garden area which extends from the warehouse to the parking lot. No food in house but they do have food trucks occasionally (mostly on the weekends). Apparently, this entire location is closing in December. The brewing operation is moving to Bremerton and the taproom is not planned to be reopened. I suspect this was announced suddenly by the private equity firm that bought the brewery out a couple years back, as all the customers today seemed surprised and there was even a sign on the wall with December event dates printed and then crossed out after the fact. I feel terrible for the employees as I imagine none or basically none of them have kept their employment given the distance from Redmond to Bremerton. Superb service, decent beers, dog and kid friendly. If you show up with your four-legged friend they'll take a photo and next time you come in you can find it on the wall. Good luck because they're running out of real estate in there and the walls are dense with cuteness. I think they have a food truck on the weekends, though sadly not on our visit. And you can do a free tour of their brewery on Saturdays at 3pm. They also have a couple wine options in case the beers aren't doing it for you. The only major bummer is that they serve beverages in plastic cups. Really not a fan of that at all. read more

I love this brewery for how significant it is within the craft brew industry in the Seattle area. It has a long tradition and I'm happy to see it's still open. They don't offer a very large selection of beers, but what they do offer is for quality. I wish they served it in a pint glass instead of plastic, which is the primary reason I'm giving them four stars instead of five. The service is excellent since they're usually very friendly and knowledgeable about their beers. They also offer free pretzels which is a nice touch. read more

This business has moved. The facility is vacant. Their website still states they are at their Redmond address. An online search shows the new owners, Ackley Brands, who purchased Mac and Jack's in 2023, moved the brewery to Bremerton in October of 2025. The one star review is directed at the new ownership for not updating the website. I would still rate the exceptional Mac and Jack's African Amber with 5, or even 10 stars if I could. This has to be one of the best kept secrets of Redmond. On Saturday's and Sunday's they do brewery tours at 2:00pm and there is no charge to go on them. At the beginning of the tour, each person is given a pint glass with 4 coupons to taste their beer and you get to keep the glass when you leave. Amazing and free! It was so much fun to learn the fun facts about the brewery and experience all the beers they make. We went with friends and had such a good time. If you check my first review of this place, you can see that I said I'd come back after August to give them a real go since I was pregnant during my first visit... And I did! We came to the brewery in the middle of the day on a Thursday. The retail shop was wide open and they even had a little makeshift beer garden set up right outside. It was awesome, especially because the weather was suuuper warm. As usual, the staff was super nice and informative. We ended up walking out $93 lighter, but who could blame us? We each got some beers to have there, a six pack of their Summer IPA, and three brand new growlers allll filled up. We each enjoyed two beers (I had the Apricot Wheat and my boyfriend had the Juicy IPA). The Apricot Wheat is phenomenal. Super refreshing and really light, and the apricot taste is definitely there but it's subtle. Probably one of my favorite beers to date! What's really nice is that they are very generous with their samples before you make a decision on what you want. Bottoms up! Did I mention we brought our two month old? It's kid-friendly, woot woot! Local, friendly place to get beer to-go. There is a window where you can try samples and order a growler ($11 refills) or "crowlers" (tall cans that they fill and seal on the spot). There isn't seating at the brewery itself, but Marymoor Park is just around the corner! FYI Mac & Jack's takes credit cards, but you'll need cash for parking at Marymoor Park. We visit many of the breweries in the area. Many are quite good, but Mac & Jacks is always kind of special for us due to the outstanding service provided by regular beertenders Will and Adriana. The beer is great, and we are always met by bright smiles from Will and Adriana. Two super nice people who enjoy their work, and it really shows. I didn't realize Mac and Jacks had a brewery/ taproom space, apparently it's been there for several years. They had several different beers aside from the usual African amber or wheat, I had a lager which was good and sampled one of the darker beers. We have some pretty high expectations for breweries in Washington and this did not meet them unfortunately. The beer itself was pretty lackluster and did not have the juicy bright flavor we were hoping for from a hazy IPA. It was also pored in plastic cups which always takes away from the experience and is pointlessly wasteful. The atmosphere itself was not too bad especially on a sunny day but also nothing compared to most breweries. (The plastic chairs and tables didn't help). We were recommended this place by a friend but it unfortunately did not live up to the hype. read more

It was my first time touring a brewery. It is not necessary to set an appointment you just need to walk in to the retail store. Two tours are available on Sunday, 1pm and 3pm. Two samples are available before the tour so get a bit early! Tour starts with getting a pint cup! You can try 4 samples during the tour. (So 6 samples total). They explain the history of the brewery and get to see the production line. It was fun experience. read more

It is literally a few miles from the house, but this is the first time we visited. I have had Mac & Jack's beer before. It seems to have a cult following and what I've had has been decent. Unfortunately, we were hoping for a place where we could sit down and have a tasting flight (more like PostDoc just down the street). But this is just a brewery, not a pub. No tables or chairs. Also, they don't bottle so you can't buy bottles. They do have tours of the brewery available. These start at 1 and 3 PM on the weekend and take about an hour. We didn't have time for that (I hear it's a great tour though). You can buy growlers from them and they do provide tastes of their beer. So we tried several. The beer is good quality, but I was disappointed that they don't make goses or sours (which are what we prefer). Since we didn't have a growler and didn't want to buy one, I felt pretty uncomfortable trying any beer. Fortunately, they do bottle in a very limited fashion and we were able to buy their bottled barleywine (which wasn't available to taste anyhow). The barleywine was good. Pricey though at $12 a bottle. Not really what we were looking for (a place to hang out and try a flight of beers). But it's not their fault. I don't see coming back here for beer as we don't buy enough at one time to ever justify a growler and also they don't make the types of beer we really love, like the sours. read more

Any questions we had he was there to help explain about the beer. We ended up doing 2 flights which made it so we could try one of every beer to choose which one we liked before we got a glass. These guys do great things for the beer world without a doubt. They focus on a rock-solid business model: produce flagship beers that anyone can enjoy, and don't spend a lot of time on side projects. As a result, you get a fairly bare-bones experience here. There are tanks and kettles, and there are faucets and growlers. There are grains, yeasts, and hops somewhere as well, but those are marked employees only. You come in, you get your growler filled to go, maybe you shoot the breeze a little, then you go drink your beer. This place offers a nice lineup of beers. They actually offer the current sales leader in Western Washington among craft beers, I think--the African Amber. Redhook and Widmer and a few other mid-major craft breweries challenge it pretty well, but the African is a king among kegs of craft beer in this town. You see it at places where it's the only non-industrial beer, that stately lion on the tap handle announcing that there's at least one thing on tap with a grain bill that's all barley. You see it at restaurants, sports bars, sometimes even at higher-end places that are crazy for beer. You occasionally get a stale keg of the African because it can sit so long at places that don't move much craft beer, so it has a bit of a middling reputation with a few people--some people think it's too sweet, because by the time they get to a place with a keg of it, the hops have faded, and the crispness and refreshment have gone. But African is a very drinkable beer, and the Serengeti Wheat is solid as well. They also serve a decent porter and IPA, and they occasionally make an interesting special batch of this or that. But most of all they serve beers that anyone can enjoy, and more than once their beers have been compared to Kind of Blue by Miles Davis--something both musicians and a large percentage of the public alike can really get into. They have a lot of merch up front including some great M&J T-shirts and even banners. What they do not have is a place to sit an drink beer, either inside or outside. I love this brewery. I had the African Amber as one of my first beers when I turned 21. So I guess it will always have a special place in my heart. They have tours on Sunday which is pretty cool to see how they make all the beer. It doesn't cost anything to take a tour, plus you get to keep the pint glass afterwards! It's been $7.50 for a growler for the longest time, but as of April 6th, they're upping the price to $10 for a growler, which to me is a sad, but understandable part of business. They have a barley wine there, which is new. I will try a growler of that some day. The staff there are great. I'm sure I'll be back to grab more growlers of their beer. read more

So much fun and well timed beer tasting throughout the tour makes sure your lips are always wet with superb micro brew as you take in the process. Excited to come here for the tour (Sat @ 3). Our guide was really knowledgeable and open to questions. There might have been a slight air of impatience with our group, to get on to the samples, but I think it was just because it was really cold and the tour is in the warehouse/outdoors. Dress warmly! The samples were fantastic. The tour itself was really interesting, but the variety of really delicious beers here was memorable. In addition to their super popular African Amber, they had a light beer, porter, IPA, and dark ale. When we went, they were just trying a new bourbon-aged dark ale - super delicious.
