I was very pleased with my recent experience at Mac Enthusiasts. I had a liquid spill on my laptop. The machine was only 8 mos old, so I was devastated to think I had ruined it. I brought it to ME after Melrose Mac proved completely lame in the service dept, and the Enthusiasts had me up and running in three days for a very reasonable price. They saved my machine. Very thorough diagnostic, and the price of the diagnostic labor was applied to the subsequent repairs. They were able to replace the logic board under warranty, saving me a huge amount of $$, and performed the other necessary repairs in good order. They were able to salvage the top case and the optical drive and saved me the cost of replacing them. The technician was very careful and called me several times to give updates and estimates - David is awesome. He took care to save what he could and not charge me for unnecessary repairs. These guys did a great job on my computer, I'd recommend them especially for liquid spills. Color me a happy customer. read more

As a professional writer, the idea of taking my computer in to the Apple store for service is like going through labor and childbirth in a cold hospital birthing ward with no curtains, no drugs, and tons of stressed pregnant women screaming for doctors and nurses who are, well...busy. Going to MacEnthusiasts for service is like going into labor at a 5-star hotel, in a hot tub, with champagne, caviar, massaging midwives, Barry Manilow crooning a jazzy set to calm the mood, and Matthew at the helm fixing everything in my computer delivery to make it a painless and easy process. After the "geniuses" at the Apple store crashed two Mac laptops, I started going to MacEnthusiasts. They are patient and knowledgeable and have helped my family on several tech messes and mishaps. I moved from LA to NY and brought my laptop back to LA on a recent trip back just to have them check it out since I didn't believe what the Apple store said was wrong. They checked it out thoroughly and diagnosed the problem. Had to buy a new one and they recommended what to buy to make sure the old files would transfer over - even though it meant buying at Apple. Erick and Mathew are just amazing..totally trust them and even though I live 3000 miles away, I will call them first or even send my computer to them. They are on the pricey side and the Genius Bar is free so don't expect a bargain. read more

I had to repair my Mac Mini and thought it was curtains. But these guys were able to find a solution that was below my requested budget and my Mac is faster than ever!!! Not only that, but the optical drive, through no fault of theirs, failed when I got it home and they were able to fix it in a day. Even though it was a different problem, they moved me to the head of the queue and my Mini was back home in 24 hrs!! These guys are smart helpful and a pleasure to work with. I just created this Yelp account to rate MacEnthusiasts because I am so obsessed with this place. I am a college student in the middle of finals and spilt tea on my computer, which has all of my finals papers, projects, and notes... that I of course do not back up. The computer sputtered out and completely shut down after I spilt the tea, I basically had a mental breakdown and took it to the apple store immediately the next morning. The apple store told me that I needed to take my computer to a data recovery place, and I began calling different store right away. Every store I called said that it would take over a week, despite me pleading with them on the phone about how important all of my assignments and notes were for finals. I was lucky enough to call MacEnthusiasts and could not speak more highly of them. THEY ARE AMAZING! On the phone, they told me to come right in and that they could help me as quickly as possible. They helped me right away and had my computer back to me before all of my final projects were due. Not to mention, the people that worked here are SO nice. They let me sit in a chair while I waited and hooked me up with a rental computer while they will be fixing my computer for $100 dollars less than the Mac estimate. This review does not begin to express my obsession with this place. I WILL NEVER TAKE MY COMPUTER ANYWHERE ELSE. I wish I could create 10 more yelp accounts just to give this place 5 stars again. This is my favorite mac shop. Everyone is super knowledgeable and friendly. They are very quick to help in any way needed. This place is unbelievably bad. I brought my laptop in for service and I had to bring it back 3 more times because they had actually broken things that were not previously broken. Not only that, but rather than having good customer service and apologizing, the manager will actually fight with you on the phone. And they don't even push Apple products! They insisted that I buy the cheaper non-Apple power adapter, and when I refused and bought the expensive Apple adapter anyway, I took it home and it didn't work! I thought it looked sketchy that they were all laying unwound and unpackaged in a bin. I went back and had to get another Apple adapter, which worked for three days, and then THAT one stopped working! I finally gave in and went back and bought a second hand one and asked to exchange the other plug and they told me I had to return it to the Apple Store. What?? I just exchanged it like 3 weeks before! Complete ripoff, bad service, there are other Mac repair places around just do a quick search on the web. read more

The worst. Terrible service at every level. And delusional. After totally failing to do what was promised (rush repair), they lost the dispute with my credit card company (my money was refunded) but they claimed in their response to the Better Business Bureau complaint I filed that they had won the dispute! I took in my laptop, which needed a new keyboard installed. When they were finished, the keyboard worked but the mouse pad barely did (and it had worked fine before). When I pointed this out, they informed me I would have to spend another thousand dollars to get the mousepad fixed - which they had messed up. Computers, wine and a happy dog with an active tail certainly have their moments, in this case with my computer. Unfortunately my computer got drunk, shorted, and passed out after an enthusiastic dog wagged it's tail and knocked over a glass of wine on my keyboard. The result, shorting the battery, the power jack and leaving the Macbook air drunk and passed out! Whimpering, I took my Mac to the ONLY place I knew and felt confident could help, Erikk at Mac Enthusiasts who always seems happy to see me when I walk in. Erikk is brilliant at taking the edge off and sharing something new and helpful in this case the possibilities the Mac would recover with a little hangover!!!! He has a great sense of humor too. He assured me confidently if it could be fixed then Etson, could do it. TG. After a few days to carefully determine what needed to be done Etson called with good and bad news. Good news it's fixable, bad news costly but still less than a new computer. After listening to me express my pain with transparency and kindness, Etson passed me on to Matthew the manager, suggesting perhaps, he might be able to help with the cost even if just a little. When Matthew, came on he was well versed on my concerns and graciously walked me through the why behind the cost. I could not debate his truth and decided how could I go anywhere else when someone, Matthew, so patiently spent the time to explain and cared enough about my business not to let me walk. What could I say other than OK and thank you. Mac Enthusiasts I wouldn't trust my computers to anyone but you. Thank you Erikk in front, Etson the brilliant techie and Matthew the store manager for treating me with kindness and patience. I just had a interesting experience with these guys and although there were some ups and downs they made it all work out in the end. The team is very thoughtful and kind. They work with you and we able to help me on my super tight budget. I really likes Matt and Brian they didnt freak out like I was and were great peeps throughout. I have already told many friends about it. One friend went today to have them look at a problem and I am sure she will end up happy as well. I dont feel ripped off or made to feel stupid because I am not a mac genius. Stay Away! Came in with a simple problem on a mac laptop. Was promised a 4 day turn around. When I called to check in 4 days later, they said "we need 1 more day." This went on for about a week. Each time it would be one more day. During this time, the clerks I were speaking too got more and more snotty, finally telling me to stop calling them and that they would call me when it was ready. They did not. When I called finally they said it was ready. I got it home and the same problem was immediately evident. I went back and showed them that this problem (which could be seen instantly after the computer booted the OS) was NOT fixed. All I got was a shrug and (what I hope was) a guilty smile. I have bought 5 Mac computers from this store in the past, NEVER again will I give them another dime. They were RUDE, took LONGER then they SAID, and obviously spent either no time actually looking at the computer, or they are simply wildly incompetent. read more

I took a MacBook Pro in for service and they asked if I wanted to sell it. So I left it there, they called me the next business day and offered to buy it for 400 plus. I went to pick up thhe check and they said they'd have to mail it. After 3 weeks, no check. I called 3 times, they took my number and never called back. So, basically, they ripped off my computer and now I'm going to have to chase after them in small claims court. Very dishonest- buyers should head to the Apple Store and sellers should head to eBay. read more

They were truly amazing! I had a bit of water damage in my macbook laptop and apple was charging me 900 bucks and my computer would have been gone for a couple of weeks! I went to Mac Enthusiasts thinking it would relatively be around the same price.. but they were HALF the price, HALF the time, and offered rental macbook laptops! Mac Enthusiasts is hands down the best place to rent a laptop and to buy a laptop in Los Angeles. I work in TV and have to get rentals all of the time. They don't give you old machines that don't work and have no battery life. They are personable, helpful...and actually care. Matthew is my favorite person there. He always takes care of me and makes sure that I have what I need. So much so that when it came time to upgrade and buy my MacBook Pro...i got it from Mac Enthusiasts. This place is great! My MacBook Pro kept overheating and would shut down after it reached a temperature that burned my skin. I needed to get it repaired but didn't want to deal with the Apple store because it is out of my way. I was driving home from school and saw Mac Enthusiasts and decided to poke my head in and talk to them about my problem. Right away they knew what the problem was without looking at my computer since I didn't have it because I was just at school. The next day I brought my computer in and they confirmed the diagnosis (sorry I cannot remember what the problem was. Motherboard I think?). They said they needed my computer for a couple of days because since my computer is under Apple Care I believe they needed to send it away to get fixed, but I could be wrong. I'm a college student so I panicked that I would not have a computer for a few days. They offered me a rental MacBook Pro and transferred all my information back to my computer. Matthew, the head honcho and his sales associates were great. I was charged a very reasonable amount of money for transferring everything on my computer (you can save the money if you have an external hard drive to save your stuff on). They kept my computer for about a week, but I didn't mind because I had a rental. A year later the problem has come back but I gave them a call and they said to pop in and they would take care of the problem again. Side note that has nothing to do with computers but shows their dedication to customers is they have coffee/lattes and water while you wait. Even if you don't have to wait, you can grab it to go. The receptionist, whose name I do not remember seemed to go out of her way to make sure everyone was taken care of. I noticed several people having to wait and she made sure they felt acknowledged and not forgotten. I don't know if PC customers get this kind of service anywhere, but I'm even more grateful to have a Mac because I can get my computer serviced at such a good place. read more

I brought my 2008 Macbook in for an upgrade of the hard drive- wanting more speed. They ended up giving me more speed but less memory, something I didn't really understand when they were walking me though their recommendation. I was very happy with the price and paid in full when I dropped the computer off however when I picked it up I was told there was a $100 balance- turns out the guy who was helping me forgot to charge me for something with the original transaction so the total was quite a bit more then I thought it would be. The manager was nice enough to adjust the price a little since it was an oversight on their part. When I powered up the computer I realized that my preexisting Microsoft Word was no long compatible with the new software that they installed which was a huge bummer and something that I was not told about before they worked on my computer. Word is a couple of hundred bucks and being a student- it was something that I definitely needed on my computer and was not prepared to have to repurchase. The manager again totally helped me out and was able to reinstall the new Word software and didn't charge me. I have now had my computer for about 2 months and the speed is great. I can tell a big difference from before I dropped it off. There is one big problem however and that is that my battery is now completely shot! A full charged battery only lasts me 2 hours before it completely dies and prior to the update my battery was able to last 6-8 hours. Really bummed on this as I am going to have to get the batter replaced at some point. Make sure you ask them about this AND about any compatibility issues with programs that you have on your computer and software upgrades. read more

my son's macair book screen had a crack; so i walk it over to MacEnthusiasts & they quoted me $940; while i was there i ask about a cable to connect a monitor to it; i was told that i could NLY use an Apple monitor (for another $1,000). i walked away in shock, & i decided to go to the Apple store: they charged me $450 to replace the screen, and it took them less than 24 hrs., and was sold a $30 conector to hook up any monitor i wanted.... read more

I had an unfortunate discovery that magnets really do erase hard drives. I was given a list of certified places from the Apple store. I called 4 of them and Mac Enthusiasts was the only one to actually answer the phone. I drove straight over and was impressed by their modern design and friendly staff. They had easy parking in the back of the store. I was greeted immediately and out the door with a quote that was quite reasonable for recovering and replacing a hard drive on an iMac. Days later I had my computer back with a new drive and the recovered data on my iMac. No transferring. No fuss. No problem. I highly recommend this business. read more

I used to love this store. But my last experience was disappointing and I felt that my complaints fell on dead ears. In fact after explaining my dissatisfaction I asked if the guy understood and he was just totally silent. Trying to stay above the fray and surf a wave of unrelenting demands on my time . . . drowning in stress. Late Saturday night I was reviewing messages on my iPhone. Very sleepy and distressed by the content of a message, I swiped to delete it. The entire conversation, the thread, disappeared beneath the screen. A swell of dialogue needed for a future legal action, now drowned out, lost to me forever. I cast my net into the ocean of the Internet and fished out applications that promised to recover lost data from recent model iPhones. I don't like backing up sensitive information to the Cloud, and have avoided it. My last backup to iTunes was in January, and did not contain my lost data. And so I turned to my local Apple store. Like a cold fish, with no recommendations at all, they refused to assist me with recovering my lost data. And then, a beacon of light flashed in my mind, like a port in a storm! MAC ENTHUSIASTS!!!!!! JUST A MERE two miles west of the Apple Store! I sailed in, with trepidation, truly believing this little emporium and clinic was my last resort. I was greeted by Eric, Ron, and Matt, three interested and sharp technicians who were curious about my recovery issue. Rather than say "NO," we can't attempt this, RON asked for my iPhone and then wordlessly delved into a "search and rescue" mission. He was focused, and clearly highly skilled. He navigated the myriad screens of code that were on the rocky road to my data, and HE NEVER STOPPED. This process was something even the other two fine technicians had not tried before. RON's expertise and willingness to be challenged by this mission recovered my lost thread! RON SAVED ME! Not only did he recover my data, he provided two different versions. RON also took the time to install a Mac Enthusiast Logo to indicate on the printed recovery that the recovery had been performed by Mac Enthusiasts. I was charged very fairly for this emergency operation. While waiting for the results of my iPhone data recovery, I had a chance to become acquainted with the many high quality products available for purchase at Mac Enthusiasts. I need an upgrade of many technology items, and I will be returning shortly to buy a beautiful, refurbished IMAC, a scanner, another 1TB La Cie external hard drive, and an ergonomic keyboard. Attention Pro Tools users. This place rocks. Aside from the super friendly staff, these people know their Macs. I had a system crash and burn in the middle of a huge mix project, and Mac Enthusiasts were there for me every step of the way! When we ran into issues with my HD 3 pci cards and the new computer I was purchasing from them, they did so much additional tech support until I walked out of the door with a flawlessly running system. Knowing that I was an industry professional, they went out of their way to get me up and running. They did not charge any kind of rush fee for the drive migration and other details that were required for me to get back to work promptly. Think twice before selecting a Music store or high end specialty shop for your Mac purchase (or repair) because these guys do know what they're doing.
