I'm a sucker for smashed. Very solid Galveston smashed burger. Flavorful and juicy patties with rich melty cheese. Fries are also well done with an enjoyable fry sauce. Has a nice round the corner burger shack kinda vibe. Also good bagel shop inside. Close drive from the Bryan Museum which I also recommend checking out.

I am writing my review about the location on Broadway. It is absolutely awful. I've been there three times now thinking that it was just a bad day. Every time I enter the people are not very nice. They actually kind of ignore you until they're ready to help you. Here is a tip: Say "Hi, thanks for coming in. I'll be with you in just one moment." Service is very slow. There really isn't "service". There's only an order taker. They need to learn how important great customer service is to the overall guest experience! The hamburger was overcooked, but the flavor was actually pretty good. However, the french fries at this location are extremely over seasoned, the sauce is not the same as the sauce at theTremont St. location either. Consistency of the brand should be something that this business should strive for if they're going to be successful in the long run

First you have to know that the Galveston Bagel company in which Mac-ies shares a space is also so freaking good!! Their bagels are fresh and you can get an amazing breakfast here as well some amazing sounding lunches. But let's get to Mac-ies. I've had the burgers and the chicken tenders, fries and seasoned waffle fries. Fries are fresh, hot and the right kind of crisp. Burgers are juicy af and delicious. Tenders are quality, not the grisly bs w more breading than meat. There's indoor seating that's 69 degrees to cool you off or a covered patio on nicer days. FYI, there is also a Mac-ies on Broadway in an old sonic, I haven't been to that one but I'm told it's burgers only. The people that work here(bagel and Mac-it's) are friendly and nice to talk to. This place is worth checking out!

I got the single patty with lettuce, tomato, onions, american cheese, pickles, & mac sauce on Texas toast. It was a fine burger, but nothing life changing. The fries and Mac sauce were pretty good and well seasoned. You could tell the fries were freshly made. I got all this plus a drink for $15 which was alright.

Customer service A1! As soon as you step in the door they make you feel welcome. They went over the menu. Very kindhearted people. The burger was one of the best I ever had. The onion fries and French fries were 10/10. It's a cool vibe. The outdoor seating was pleasant thanks to the fans and the machine that lets you know when your order is ready

One of my favorite burger spots in Galveston without a doubt! Macies is a food truck nestled outside the Galveston Bagel Company with outdoor patio seating or indoor seating in the bagel company storefront itself. The food is reasonably priced but delicious. I'd recommend the double Mac (I personally feel that the single smash patty isn't enough meat), and my go-to toppings are tomato, spinach, Gouda, and Mac sauce. Fries are skinny and always crunchy and seasoned with what tastes like Slap ya Mama. Brown bag special also comes with a cookie, which was soft and chewy but seemed store-bought (I still appreciated this addition to this cheap meal option though). Side note: I've had multiple experiences with a woman at the register with an attitude. Despite this, I love the food and affordability so much that I still come back and would recommend this business to friends!

The new Mac-ies on Broadway has a thick 1/4 lb hotdog with lots of toppings. You get to choose four of them at no additional charge. Then there's a small charge for any additional fixings you might like to add. I had a hotdog with onions, fantastic pickles, pepperoncinis, and sliced tomatoes. I added some mustard. I must say it is delicious. The fries were hot and crispy. Just the way I love them. The hot dog is so big I'm taking half of it home for later. Move over "Local Dogs". We've been there twice only to be disappointed by a hotdog that's about as big as your finger and soggy fries. Mac-it's kitchen is spotless. You can eat indoors or out. We chose to eat at the counter where we got to meet a lot of the staff who is super friendly (especially Judy and Cassandra). The ambience and the makeover of what used to be a Sonic restaurant it's great too.

This was my first time having a smash burger. I thought it was soooo good. I wasn't terribly hungry, so I opted for the singly patty with cheese and added bacon. The bun was fresh and soft. The meat was seasoned well. I also enjoyed the fries, and their house sauce. They were steadily busy, but service was friendly and fast. We sat outside and enjoyed the casual atmosphere.

Cutest smash burger spot there is in Galveston, Texas! My friends and I stopped here after a cruise, before we headed to Houston, and OMG!!! The burgers were everything and then some! The restaurant is also connected to a bakery, which is the cutest thing ever, but it also has an outdoor seating area! The service was pretty awesome and fast! The burgers were so fresh and delicious! I also enjoyed being able to sit in their outdoor area and see the cool decor that they had while enjoying my food! Will return if I'm ever in the area again!

We walked around Galveston for about an hour before we stumbled upon this hidden gem. This is an absolute MUST if you're on the island. I have a shellfish allergy and was struggling to find a restaurant where I could safely eat. I love that you can customize your burger to exactly what you want. The daily homemade buns were perfect. The owner was here working the bar/restaurant to let his bartender have the day off and he was great. He is so friendly and helpful. The burger and fries were beyond delicious and the Mac sauce *chefs kiss*! The environment here is so nice. At home friendly down to earth best burger in town. 10/10 recommend read more

I am a burger snob. This was one of the BEST burgers I have had. It was seasoned perfectly. It was cooked perfectly. The bun was so good and light and soft. The "small" fries were so good, and enough to feed many people! I met the owner and could not have been nicer and so welcoming. Can't wait to come back. Will get bagels next time also! read more

Mac-ies is a small burger stand (and only burgers!) that is big on freshness and flavors. A small "mini-mac" is 8 bucks and it comes with cheese and up to 4 toppings. The burger is delicious and the buns are fresh baked by the Galveston Bagel Company next store. The fries are great. They are thin, lightly seasoned, perfectly crispy basket of awesome. Ordered from Mac-ies and a co-worker picked it up so I can't personally speak to the service on site, but the person I spoke to over the phone was very nice and helpful. The burger was great! Probably one of the best I've tried in the area. I ordered the double, but would have been plenty satisfied with the single because they are huge smash burgers and the buns are large and delicious. Definitely a win in my book. read more

It was a good burger. Not great but good. Lots of construction trying to get into the business so that wasn't their fault. Finishing up our meal and both the server and the cook start smoking behind the food truck and it's blowing in our direction. No smoking signs posted all over the seating area!!!Threw the rest of our food away and left quickly. Won't waste the drive there again. read more

Enjoyed this wonderful burger spot today! Had the smash cheeseburger and mini fry (which was plenty!). The Mac sauce is good too! Buns are made fresh on-site and grilled to perfection. Three of us tried three different burgers and all three burgers were the very worst burgers we've ever had. The meat was tasteless, over cooked and the buns were burned. We all ate about half the burger and left. I don't know who writes the rave reviews for this place but it must be family & friends because there was nothing good about this burger. The burger was good....very good BUT the service was lacking. I simply tried to tell the young lady / server that it is Important to check on a customer after their food is served. That was met with excuse this, excuse that why she never spoke to me after she took my order. But she had time to do the cell phone thing etc. I gave her a tip (which would have been more if she gave good service)...no thank you at all. I asked if they allow free refills on soda pop and she looks at a young woman who had walked up to the bar, and it seemed like a reluctant yes to the refill. I asked the lady if she was the boss just trying to make small talk and was met with " I am the owner" with what appeared to be some attitude. Their are MANY places on the Island to get great burgers....with great service. AND now the OWNER states that I was "condescending" towards her employee....NO....IT IS CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM trying to help the young lady make better tips....PLEASE....Take some ADVICE now and then from an OLD SCHOOLER who was working in the restaurant/service industry long before you were born. AND why would I try to discuss it with you, the owner after I already sensed an attitude from you? GOOD DAY.....will never return or recommend your establishment. read more

MAC-IES on 23rd is where it all began. Opened in 2022, our original food truck sits beside Galveston Bagel Company in the heart of downtown Galveston -- the starting point of MAC-IES. This location focuses on what made us a local favorite: smashburgers and hand-breaded chicken, served in a casual, outdoor-friendly setting. With air-conditioned indoor seating, covered outdoor seating, and a dog-friendly space, it's an easy place to stop in and stay awhile. We also pour local tap beer from Galveston Island Brewing and Naked Iguana Brewing, rounding out the laid-back downtown experience. That being said, it had been some time since I've gotten some proper fish-n-chips. I had to remedy that. Especially since the BBQ fiasco the other day, I was going to go on a hunger strike, but once I made the sign, I got potato chip fingers on it and started to eat it. And now, the rest of the story. I have learned that I enjoy Cod fish for my fish-n-chips. And I think also Haddock. I am not a fisher nor a fish. So it's hard for me to say. But I know Cod is one for sure. I also sometimes have baby mouth and am afraid of new things. I do know I love my fish battered and deep fried. I also know that Shark Shack had good reviews for their fish, so, that was all I needed to hear. Plus, it was a perfect little eatery with bar seating, table seating, and gifts! So you can bet your bottom dollar tomorrow I ordered the English fish-n-chips. Boy oh boy. Just like how Britain colonized all those countries back when it was the cool thing to do, these fish and chips colonized my taste buds. Respectfully. This plate came with FIVE logs of fish. FIVE! Maybe they were tubes of fish? Honestly, I don't care what shape they came in, they looked perfectly crunchy and perfectly brown and perfectly fish. The super cool extra bonus? These fish came with CRISPIES! I've only ever seen crisps with fish from Long John Silvers, whose fish is probably as far from Cod or Haddock as legally possible. I actually think one of my pieces of fish from there had shoelaces. Didn't matter. Still ate it. Respectfully. (If you aren't privileged enough to know what fish crispies are, there little batter pieces that fry or fall off the fish as they cook. Basically little crumblies. If you make a wish over a fork of them and get the forkful in your mouth without dropping any, your wish will come true). Homemade tartar sauce was good, but there was a certain flavor profile that I wasn't a fan of. It was still good to use on the fish rods, it just tasted a little too much out of the tartar sauce field for me. The meal was wrapped up nice and tight with lovely square-cut fries. We were seated immediately but waited quite a while for our server to appear, and then even longer to get our drinks. And that's not where the awful drink experience ended -- it was so weak and just not good at all.
