Residents of La Marque, Texas City, and surrounding areas of a certain age remember a Chinese eatery called Rose Garden. Rose Garden went out of business a few years ago, and in its place rises JLB Eatery. Based on what I could gather online, there are quite a few JLBs in Greater Houston, with this location likely the newest one. No. 15 to be exact, per the extremely kind Ms. Kara, the franchisee. The eatery serves the usual American favorites such as fast food and seafood in a laid back setting. Given its the second Friday of Lent, my mom and I came here determined to try the timeless British classic, fish and chips. JLB has three options for the item, and we went with the one-piece just to be on the safe side. I admit, I was expecting my meal to be small, but my eyes lit up when the waitress brought us our baskets. Instead of one piece, each had two, which were prepared in Cajun cornmeal batter per Ms. Kara's recommendation, lying on a bed of fries. Also included were onion rings, a hush puppy, and toast. I'm delighted to say that we immensely enjoyed our orders. The fish didn't even taste like fish, but like chicken. It was nicely done as were the accompanying sides. Portions size, huge enough for an individual meal to where it could feed two people. My assumption is that if the F&C is great, the other items on the menu would be on par or better. However, I have to wait until after Easter to find out if the burgers and chicken are also worth it. Ms. Kara is a joy to talk to. Let me assure you that she'll take care of you if you stop by here.

This is a comedy shop not a restaurant. I was the only person there and I ordered 2 chicken sandwiches COMBO and a 6 piece chicken nugget COMBO and you gave me a slice of bread for almost 40 dollars and tried to say it's my fault for not checking the receipt???? First of all I corrected you TWICE at the counter and POINTED to the menu in front of you what I wanted. Don't play dumb, admit your prank on a customer or tell people to check their orders before they have to slog home through traffic, construction and accidents to find out you cucked them on the order for their family instead of blaming them.. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Less than one star.

Food was good. Maybe a little overpriced for the quality. I don't know if I'll go back honestly..

Even worse, an employee reportedly put an oil sprayer in their mouth and then used it on customers' food. That is beyond unacceptable--it's disgusting. Tucking the drinks under their chin/mouth to give them to her. This shows a complete lack of basic hygiene, training, and management oversight. I will not be ordering from here again, and I strongly urge others to think twice. This is a serious health risk and needs to be addressed immediately. I do want to thank our DoorDash driver for being honest and looking out for us her transparency is the only reason we knew what was happening.

Friendly service just seemed odd during the dinner hour. I was the only customer for a while. This place seemed to maybe be in a transitional phase. Maybe new owners? Just did not feel like they were ready for business. The place was clean it just looked a little unfinished. I ordered the Loaded Mac and Cheese. It was okay. I've definitely had better. The chicken was great! Hot and fresh. The Mac and Cheese was okay. Definitely could do with an upgraded recipe. And I think the cheese was from a nacho cheese bag. Like the ones used for nachos at the ball park. The jalapeños were a nice thought but just didn't mix well with the whole meal. Honestly was hoping this was going to be better than it was. Just didn't mix well not live up to my expectations. Like I said maybe they are in a transitional phase. Not really in a hurry to go back.

The food (ox tails, greens/cabbage, cornbread dressing) is really 5/5, it was seasoned wonderfully and the portions were good for plentiful leftovers. The live DJ was nice and music was very good. When I walked in, there was a not-so-long line, but it took forever. I can only assume they were waiting for food to be prepped before moving to the next person. It was cafeteria style and I really couldn't tell what the wait was.

It might have been a blessing in disguise Yelp recommended this place and we gave it a shot. We almost did not stay to eat because today was takeout only the staff said. We noticed chairs outside so opted to stay. We chose the baked chicken, the meatloaf and the fried fish. Our sides were Mac and cheese X's 3 ( so glad we did) pinto beans abd the green beans. EVERYTHING was seasoned nicely, the food was hot (except cornbread and rolls which was unfortunate) and quantities were perfect They did not have togo drinks today ( suggest to offer in the future). But we asked for water and they happily accommodated which was nice since we don't live here. All around it was a great experience and we will definitely recommend this place to friends and family! Food quality, temp, quality, variety and cost all a plus Staff attitude, accommodation all a plus.

At approximately $20, it's essentially a steal. Diners get a slab of bovine that nearly takes up half the plate alongside vegetables and loaded mashed potatoes. I was very impressed how my steak came out just as I requested - medium rare - and I couldn't get over how super tender and juicy it was. Maybe it's just me, but when the meat easily melts in your mouth, you have to slowly enjoy it. The veggies were fresh and seasoned nicely and the mashed potatoes came alive flavor wise thanks to the shredded cheese and bacon bits. I just wished they were a bit bigger to match the steak portions wise. As for the establishment itself, a bit noisy, but it can be easily overlooked by the laidback vibe. I really dug the music that was blasting through the speakers. One minute, it was Luke Combs. The next, Pantera. I'd say this place can be a hangout for me when I want to catch the Astros, Texans, or Rockets.

So many sports bars no longer have the electronic (auto scoring) dart boards which I love so much. Thoroughly enjoyed playing. Machine takes cash only & costs $1.50 (6, 25 cent credits) for two players to play a game of cricket for example. I would definitely return to try their wings. They had a large variety of wing flavors. I was there during an Astros game. Pretty cool place to chill & catch a game.

But once you arrive, you're in for a real culinary trip south of the border. I dropped in very eager to try one of their taco plates. While the pictures on the restaurant's Facebook page had already piqued my appetite, I wanted to see for myself if they were the real deal. So, for my first meal here, I ordered the Pastor Street Tacos. Like at any good Mexican restaurant, my meal began with chips and salsa. It's an unwritten rule of mine that if the complimentary chips and salsa are good, the main dishes will be just as good, if not better. Fortunately, that rule holds true for Mr. Taco. I tried both the red and green salsas, which were truly spicy--a definite plus in my book. The tacos arrived after a few minutes. While the menu said they were miniature--there were four in total--they were a perfect portion. Anchored by marinated pork and topped with fresh onions and cilantro on corn tortillas, the tacos were accompanied by a bean-filled consomme and rice. With just one bite, I imagined myself on the streets of Guadalajara or Monterey; the authenticity was simply evident. I occasionally dipped the tacos in the consomme, which I could describe as a bit earthy and salty. Overall, the meal was incredibly enjoyable. This dish is a prime candidate for a go-to order on a return visit. I was very well taken care of by our waiter, Samuel. The meal's spiciness had me quickly finishing my water, but he kept the glasses coming without me having to ask. While working on the meal, I was parked in front of one of the business's massive TVs, which were tuned to the Astros game. That said, I consider Mr. Taco an ideal place to catch a game. It helps that it's open until 10 p.m.--or 2 a.m. on the weekends--though a staff member told me that's assuming they're not having a slow night. Price-wise, I'd say the costs are quite fair. My platter was about $13, which would be roughly three dollars more elsewhere.
