Excellent customer service - incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I have been out of the makeup game for some time now - avoiding it somewhat all together with the exception of powder and mascara. This review is for the Mac Store located in Westfield valley fair mall not the one in Nordstrom or Macy's. I was looking for a good coverage foundation. I used several brands in the past from Estee Lauder to Dior skin but didn't satisfy 100%. So I wanted to try out the Mac foundations to see if I can find something that I like. Store was fairly crowded probably 7-8people were shopping when I walked in (Sunday afternoon) Penny came over to me shortly after and asked how she can help. After I explained her what I'm looking for, she was above and beyond helpful. She recommended 3 different types of foundations that Mac has, explained the differences in between and swatched 5 different shades on my skin. Aannddd Bingo we found the one that perfectly matches with my skin tone. She was super helpful, knowledgeable and nice. Marissa is an amazing MAC makeup artist. I've gotten made up by her twice now. I love her super precise techniques. She can make me look super glam and flawless, without looking overly made up. I've been super happy with her work each time. I also love all the colors they can play with. MAC is fabulous like that. And I'm all about the fake lashes. I rarely get my makeup done professionally, so this was quite the treat! After deciding on an outfit to wear to a futuristic-themed event, my friend recommended I check out MAC for my makeup look. So after checking out the reviews for the freestanding store inside Valley Fair, I was a little intimidated and called Nordstrom. I was transferred to the MAC Counter inside Nordstrom and discussed my needs: Pretty, yet futuristic makeup in the colors of my dress. Focus on the eyes and do whatever you want. Karla sounded genuinely excited to help me and made me an appointment for the next day. As soon as I arrived, Karla greeted me with the same perkiness she had on the phone and immediately took a look at my dress that I'd brought along and got started. She was careful and thoughtful of what she was doing and it was clear that she had a specific idea and was intent on executing it perfectly (all while having me check her work and make suggestions throughout). About forty-five minutes later, we were both squealing with delight at her amazing artwork. A quick hug later, I got up, purchased the lipstick and gloss she had used and was off. I was so disappointed I scheduled an Apt. 3 weeks in advance called and asked to be put on the Apt. list for this past Saturday and when I got there at 11:00 AM- my name was NOT on the apt book! I was so mad and upset. I made an apt. and the person that I talked to on the phone did not even bother to put my name down on their book?!! WTF! so disappointing-- needless to say they were completely booked and couldn't help me. There was only one person there when I got there the other MUA was missing in action and the other guy that was supposed to be there at 11:00 AM was also no where to be seen! Then the nice lady from NARS counter was kind enough to help me and make my day! Thanks to her I was dolled up and ready to go to my daughters party. So if you want to get STIFFED by the MAC people-- make an Apt that they will not write down! Totally unprofessional! I will not bother with this place again. I buy all my cosmetics and perfumes from Nordstrom at Valley Fair. Samantha at the Estee Lauder counter is one of my favorite people in the world! She always greets with a hug and a smile. And she gives personal attention and offers to help her customers. She is a winner! The ladies at the perfume counters are super sweet too. But there is a woman at the Mac counter with black straight hair who's extremely condescending and rude. She was pretty mean to my friend yesterday and acted like she was not interested in making a sale. I don't know if it is company policy to act like that. But so much attitude for a few $15 lip stains is not worth it. Also, if she can't be nice to her customers, maybe she shouldn't be in sales. And definitely not in Nordstrom because we pay the premium for a smile and personal attention. read more

Nordies is awesome, no doubt about it, no disputing it. I'm a customer and huge fan for life!! The MAC counter, on the other hand, is a roulette wheel. When the staff is good (most of the time), service is bar none and always a pleasurable experience. But I've also had the pleasure of surly staff who had better things to do than help customers - even when there was noone else around, anywhere. One girl in particular was so distracted with life that she looked right through me at least five different times - I counted because I kept waiting for her to notice me: the ONLY person standing at her counter. I finally had to ask her if they were open, she said yes. I asked if there was anyone else who could help me, she asked what I needed. She grabbed me my one request then walked away again to chat with another employee. Fed up with her, I went to a different counter and grabbed someone from Trish McAvoy to help me with MAC. I wouldn't normally write this detailed a review but I've had more than one bad experience with this same gal; luckily she's the worst of them and I hope only a temporary fixture. If you have the pleasure of her people-skills, don't wait for her to wake up and care ... move on and find help elsewhere. I also hope that MAC sends pro reps to check on their girls' customer service skills and product expertise from time to time. I can't believe the amount of "attitude" from some of the employees here...it's appalling! Walked in the door late one evening to pick up some things, a woman standing behind the counter was helping the woman in front of me...and then walked away without saying a word. I then stood at the register for about 7 minutes before ANYONE else working there even acknowledged my presence. The girl who finally asked if she could help had attitude from the start and honestly I was so turned off by the experience I got what I was there to get and left. I went to the Nordstrom MAC counter, to get color matched and had an AMAZING experience. Tory (I'm sorry if I spelled his name wrong!) quickly helped me, he was so kind, understanding, and patient. He listened to all my needs and what I was looking for in my desired foundation. He took a look at my clean skin - he removed my makeup - and got my correct foundation matching to me, on the first try! I'm not saying it'll be that easy with everyone else, it definitely takes patience to find the right tone and foundation for yourself, but at this counter I was able to decide in a comfortable environment. This has become my new favorite counter, and If I need anything - even for refills - I will ABSOLUTELY return. Their service is by far the most outstanding I've seen. read more

So today was the release of the Archie's Girls Collection and I was looking for a specific color that many other stores and counters didn't have. I placed a call to this counter at 11 AM and they told me they had one left and I put it on hold. The associate took down my name, and that was the end of it. Shortly after that, I called Nordstrom at Stoneridge and got another shade of lipstick on hold. I went to Stoneridge at 5 PM, no problems with receiving the product I put on hold. My experience at Nordstrom at Valleyfair was totally the complete opposite. I won't be giving them my business after my experiences when they released Apres Chic Collection and my experience today with Archie's Girls Collection. Once I got to Valleyfair, I go to the counter and say I had an item on hold. The sales associate asked me what name was the hold under and what product it was. I told them my name and I had "Daddy's Little Girl" lipstick on hold. Don't get me wrong, the sale's associate was sweet enough to look deep down in the drawers and even in the back when she didn't see my item by the register, but it doesn't excuse why my item was not available for me to pickup after confirming everything that morning. I was extremely upset that they would tell me over the phone they had the item set aside for me and I drive the distance to get nothing. I don't care for apologies, I expect a solution and they weren't of any assistance after that. They sold the product that was on hold, and for them to try and justify that I didn't come immediately and it was probably put back within their stock and sold is pretty ignorant to say. Anytime I put something on hold, it wouldn't be put back into inventory until the day is completely over. I go to work just like anybody else, I don't have time in my busy work schedule to come down immediately to pick up my item. As the associate asked me on the phone "WILL YOU BE PICKING THIS UP TODAY?", I said yes. Today didn't end at 6 PM when I came in, today meaning the end of the working day, end of the day means their closing time which is 9:30 PM. Do I think I'm being too harsh and critical? Absolutely not. I think its understandable that a release of a popular collection is definitely stressful and chaotic but they have to work with a certain standard, especially for a company such as Nordstrom. They need to ensure their customers get what they were promised or figure a solution, not empty apologies. I left empty handed and a very upset customer. Thankfully the associate at the freestanding MAC store let me know that I could come in at opening and hopefully get what I need from the limited stock they have for their event. I will forever love Nordstroms, but I won't be giving their MAC counter any business from the pitiful customer service I've received. read more

This review is for MAC artist, Nadia, who truly saved the day! I made an appointment to get my makeup done for a wedding, but the artist who was originally helping me was clearly struggling with creating the look I wanted (I think he may have been new and being trained at the time). I was running out of time and completely unhappy with what was happening with my makeup. So I got the attention of some other artists and expressed that I was unhappy with my makeup. Nadia stepped in and took over, starting my look from scratch, even though I wasn't booked as one of her clients for the day. I told her I was short on time, but I appreciate that she didn't rush the process. She still took the time to do my makeup right, and she nailed the dramatic smokey eyes I wanted with very little input from me. Thank you Nadia, you were an angel, even under pressure! I will definitely be requesting her for future appointments. Several of the MAC artists apologized for the rocky start which was really nice, and were thankful that I vocalized that I was unhappy so that they could fix the situation for me. I must've Admit I'm not a make up girl. My grandson and myself Used to go to the mall a lot When he was much younger about three years old we started going. We would go into the Mac store and he would give me his version of a makeover from very little.He is now 10 years old. We still go to the mall but not nearly as much as we used to when he was younger. So we were walking by the Mac Store yesterday and i said do you want to give me a makeover Like you used to.He smiled laughed a little and said yes So we walked into the Mac store and he began To give me my makeover. I didn't know now his intent was to make me look like a clown. The people in the store were being extremely nice and this really impressed me. One lady was filming us and she went up to The kids and ask them what their inspiration was Those little stinkers said Shrek. They painted my entire face Green and honestly I had the best time it brought back some really good memories. I try not to take life too seriously. My grandson is a brain tumor survivor and a perfectly healthy normal 10-year-old child so I am blessed and try not to sweat the small stuffIn life. I appreciate the Mac store for not Ruining that memory for me and letting us make new ones And having such an Excepting great kind attitude. This is NEITHER for the product NOR for the Nordstrom itself BUT for the bad customer service that I got on Saturday October 1th. I made an appointment for 2:30 from 3 days ahead and I was there on time. They make me wait 20 min which was OK because I could see how crowded it was. But what it bothers me was the very unprofessional manner that i faced that day. The tall guy who seems to be a manager was rude. No apologies for making me waiting and at the end I left there without seeing anyone ! I walked into a MAC store in the mall. I was there before but based on people' s review I thought the MAC people in Nordstrom are nicer. Surprisingly, I had a very great experience with a girl named "Emily" if I am spelling it correct , in the mall. She helped me a lot with honest opinion. I recently visited the M.A.C. counter in Nordstroms at Valley fair with a few friends and I have to say that overall the counter is being ran well and the makeup artists are amazing. Provided are just a few details related to the service we received: Makeup Artists: We were approached immediately and asked if assistance was required, the make up artists listened to what we were looking for, brought over samples and completed a demonstration on how to reach the "look" we were seeking. Counter: The counters were clean, all of the samples were stocked and free of trash. Counter Manager: As the make up artists was applying my makeup, a Manager named Nadia came over and asked how I was doing and what I thought of the colors/shadows being used. I noticed that Nadia was making her way around to all of the customers in efforts to make sure that they were satisfied!!! I will definitely being going back to the M.A.C. counter at Valley Fair Mall due to the superior customer service I received. read more

I had an appointment for a full face. It costs $60 with a free mascara. My makeup artist was late a couple of minutes. He was very friendly, but did not know what he was doing. I mentioned to him that I rarely get my makeup done and he took it has I never do my makeup.. my eyebrows were not filled/ blended you can see where the pencil was used. Barely any eyeshadow was used.. Honestly I could've done a better job. It definitely wasn't worth $60. I would recommend visiting the Mac at Nordstrom to get your makeup done, or know the exact artist you want. read more

I just had boudoir photos taken for my fiancee, and needed photoshoot-ready make-up. I arrived for my appointment to find that two girls called in sick and Maricela (I hope that's the right name) was on her own! She still spent 45 minutes with me making sure my make-up was amazing. I don't wear make-up usually, and she walked me through what she was doing, talked me through the fake eyelashes, and when I walked out I felt like a supermodel. She was friendly, listened to me, and her make-up styling was amazing - and I just got one of the teaser photos from my shoot and I just can't believe it's me. Spectacular, will go back to her for everything I ever need make-up wise. No pressure to purchase, but I bought (beside the eyelashes, clearly) lipstick and gloss. Bad experience at the trunk show! The reason why I'm giving them ONE star is because: 2 weeks before the actual event, I booked for a 2:00pm appointment. The guy said someone will call back to confirm the appointment. I waited till the day before the event STILL NO CALL. So I decided to give them a call myself, turned out I was not on the list but would be able to come for a later appointment. I was fine with that however, the day I came in, I was asked to wait on one of the chair. Looking around there were a bunch of MAC makeup artists walking around, some were not even doing anything, just talked to their fellow associates. I ended up with probably the guy that took my appointment the day before. (sounds like him) During the process of putting make up on me, my makeup artist kept on going to the cash register and ringing up OTHER customers, probably 3 customers during my appointment. Compare to the other makeup artists that were helping the customers to my left and right, they actually stayed there for the whole appointment teaching the girls how to apply the makeup and what brushes to use, step by step. I thought mines was sloppy, he was more into making sale rather than helping me. He didn't even bothered to blend out my foundation evenly, making sure there are no places that still a had freaken line showing the blending was uneven. After he was done, my face was cakey with foundation. Also another thing was urked me was if I knew I was charged for the fake eye lashes I would not have not let him put it on. OH come on, at least let your customer know first, all you said before booking us was a free event, teaching the customers how to use the make up and introducing new spring products! I wasn't satisfied so I just wanted to leave. In the beginning I thought if i like the work Ill buy what I like if not then Ill go. When I told him I'll think about it, his bubbly personality and smile all went away and said I needed to pay for the fake eyelashes. This is not the first time I have been to one of these. This time my makeup artist disappoint me. If I ever go back to MAC at nordstrom I would AVOID him. I wish I had the makeup artist that was helping the girl next to me!! read more
