Some places sit in the back of your mind for years…read more I first came to Macallan Public House more than a decade ago on a date and always intended to return. Life happened, years passed, and somehow I never made it back. Fast forward to today: I was driving my Tesla, jokingly asked Grok to take me somewhere for a beer, and it pointed me right back here. Walking in felt like revisiting a place that had been quietly waiting in the background of my story. The centerpiece is still the incredible bar. Shelves stacked floor to ceiling with whiskey bottles, glowing green tile behind the taps, warm lighting, and enough character that you can spend half your time simply looking around. It's the kind of room that feels both energetic and comfortable at the same time. I grabbed a seat at the bar, watched a soccer match on the TVs, and ordered an Old Fashioned. It arrived exactly the way I hoped it would: large clear ice cube, generous orange peel, balanced and smooth without trying too hard. Just a well-made classic cocktail. What stood out most was the atmosphere. These days I'm much more likely to be exploring hiking trails, photographing wildflowers, or driving mountain roads than spending time in bars. Twelve years ago, places like this were a much more regular part of my life. Coming back reminded me why I enjoyed them in the first place. Good conversation, a comfortable seat, a quality drink, and no rush to be anywhere else. The beer taps looked extensive, the whiskey selection seemed endless, and the entire place struck a balance between neighborhood pub and whiskey destination. Funny how a random AI navigation suggestion brought me back to a place I'd been meaning to revisit for over a decade. Glad it finally did. 5 stars.

My family and I decided to visit for the first time for British cuisine. It's not a far departure…read morefrom foods of other cultures around the locality, but you'll notice differences between British and American English, for example. Many of their dishes include chips, which during my visit, resembled steak fries due to their thickness. You'll also see that curry is a signature dish in the menu, which reflects how Anglo-Indian cuisine has maintained popular influence in the United Kingdom. I ordered Cutty Sark's curry with chicken, rice, and chips at medium spice. The name is derived from a British merchant vessel that operated during the late 1800s. The curry had a mix of savory and sweet flavors, which reminded me of both Japanese and Indian cuisines at the same time. I couldn't say with certainty that the curry fit into just one cuisine. Packed with some heat and bold in spice, it's a delightful and large dish if you desire a lot of flavor. Where the curry went a little off course was the addition of celery. The petiole is strongly flavored and distracts from the curry in my perhaps controversial opinion. Curry seems to better mix with potatoes and carrots. I tried some of the bacon sarnie as well. The word "sarnie" is an affectionate diminutive for "sandwich." American bacon usually comes from pork belly, which provides a flavorful yet oily crispiness. However, the British variant usually comes from the loin, which is meatier and leaner. I thought of the bacon here as similar to a savory ham. The sarnie bread is fried in fat to emphasize buttery flavor. The restaurant, filled with English decorations, has the style of a cozy and dim pub. There's a good amount of small wooden booths with cracked leather seating. Our server was really nice and made sure we got everything we needed despite the busyness of the restaurant. For example, my curry came with a chutney, and I had asked for a lid to take it home. While I forgot to take the chutney home, she went outside as she noticed that we took the back exit to look at their double-decker bus. She even offered to take a picture of us. The service deserves a lot of kudos, and we were grateful for her consideration.

The Olde Ship used to be my favorite restaurant and I would celebrate my birthday and Father's Day…read morethere every year. However, after our experience last weekend, I don't know if I'll be returning any time soon. We went to celebrate Father's Day and my birthday and we're seated quickly. While the restaurant wasn't terribly crowded, the service was awful. The blonde waitress with the British accent was very rude and yelled at my son's (15, 18, and 21) which they later said made then feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The service was very slow and we only had one water refill, despite asking repeatedly, in almost 3 hours. They were also out of multiple items including scotch eggs, sausage rolls, steak and ale pies, and sticky coffee pudding (they only had two). We never received our scotch eggs and sausage rolls and it wasn't until I asked about them after the entrees came that I was told they had run out. And we were never told that the beef wellington, which we ordered in place of the steak and ale pies that they had run out of, was almost $20 more than the steak and ale pies. Then, the bill came and the scotch eggs and sausage rolls were still on the bill, which I failed to notice at the time, so we had to return and ask for a credit for those two items. This was the worst experience we've had at this restaurant. We've had the blonde waitress before and she can be abrupt but this time, she crossed the line into being downright rude and we all felt unwelcome as a result. And to receive the treatment and have this many issues while celebrating special family events was disappointing. I'm not sure if and when I'll be back after the poor treatment we received which is a shame because I do love their food.

Had reservations for a party of four (made via online) and was seated right away. Ambiance is dark and intimate but seating was enough to feel like you had room. Drinks were delicious and strong and service was great and quick. You are limited to eating and drinking within a certain time frame but it's not bad as the servers are on it. Drinks 10/10 and food 10/10. I'm still craving their burger, one of the best ones I have had, I can't even compare it to anywhere else. Bathrooms are located outside of the speakeasy.

The place is smaller than i thought and there only one restroom per gender. The service was great and the staff was really nice. They also have happy later in the night which awesome. The only thing was that table were messy and there are no trash cans. The tables were littered with bottles, glasses, and pizza boxes. We had to move aside pizza boxes and bottles to get a table. The staff didn't bother coming by to clear up the table at any point through the night which was really weird. The parking lot is pretty big but then again at night only the bar and liquor store are open in that shopping center.

We originally wanted to visit Shady Nook for an hour of karaoke, but we ended up just chatting, having soft drinks, and munching on complimentary popcorn! We didn't want to disturb the other customers with our singing... haha! We could have played pinball or billiards, but we just wanted to hang out together and enjoy the calm, air-conditioned environment at opening time. We didn't have a reservation. We were the first customers of the day. Diane was our friendly server/bartender. She was cheerful and made us feel welcomed. I admired her for opening up the shop, taking our orders, paying attention to each patron, serving everyone, and cleaning up after us! She's amazing! I think we should return on karaoke night... then we can blend in... haha! We also would take another photo at the Photo Booth... and get our picture via email!
