I signed a maintenance agreement with Maccarone Plumbing in Glen Cove in 2025 for my Generac generator. In the time since, there were five separate power outages where the generator was needed to power the house -- and it failed to start or transfer power every single time. After each event, I contacted Maccarone; they ordered parts, made adjustments, and performed service, but the generator still didn't work reliably. I eventually switched to a different company I found directly through the official Generac dealer locator. I learned they specialize as electricians, which made a big difference. The customer support representative handling generator issues was consistently unknowledgeable and showed little interest in resolving the ongoing problems. After using them for years without any payment issues, I also requested a plumbing estimate and was asked for a deposit before they would even come out -- surprising given our established relationship. I would not recommend Maccarone for Generac generator maintenance. For anyone with a standby generator, I strongly suggest going with a licensed electrician or an authorized Generac dealer for better reliability and care. Do not let Maccarone in your house! You are giving them a license to steal. In December 2020, I hired Maccarone Plumbing to install a brand-new faucet and drain into a brand-new countertop and sink. Two plumbers arrived and installed the items in an hour for $353, the agreed price. They have been in my house several times over the past several years for various jobs. In December of 2024, I hired Maccarone Plumbing to perform the exact same job in another bathroom. The estimate was $295 an hour for the one-hour job. I was shocked when only one plumber arrived at 8.15am. I was even more shocked when a "licensed" plumber could not install a drain. He started installing the drain at 10am. After damaging the 2 drains that I provided, he left my house to pick up supplies that were not in his truck. Imagine how unprepared a plumber is if he does not have a 1 1/2" drain in his truck for a job to install a drain. Four hours later, he gave me a bill for $1,500. After an argument, the amount was slightly reduced when he gave me the smaller half day labor rate. I was never given any explanation for the $200 of parts he allegedly installed. I was told, "They don't do that". I called the person who gave me the $295 estimate and he was condescending to me and inflexible on the price. MACCARONE PLUMBING DESERVES LESS THAN ZERO STARS!! On December 10, 2021 I hired Maccarone Plumbing Inc, to repair our boiler. It was determined at that time that the Taco Control needed to be replaced. We replaced the control and upon the service man recommendation we replaced the expansion tank - which he claimed was bad. Almost one year later - on November 16th, 2022 we were woken by the smell of smoke. My husband discovered that the boiler was on fire. He was able to put the fire out and shut the boiler down to do no further damage. We had Big Apple Heating and Plumbing come out to look at our boiler situation and it was determined that the Taco Relay that was installed was installed without safety in case of failure. This caused the electrical fire inside and outside the boiler at relay. When I called Maccarone Plumbing - I was brushed off and said that this is not correct because how one year later did this happen - "Didnt you use your heat last year after install"? They also told me to go through my insurance company and that this is not their problem. THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR WORK!!!! ADVOID at ALL COSTS if you do not want your house to blow up!!! read more

This is a very clear review. I had a condensate leak with my AC. I was a little nervous to investigate it myself, despite that I'm handy. We are in high heat August. I met a tech at a supply house. I called the shop. Rosie was polite and mostly clear. I was told I'd be paying time and a half. I thought I would pay the service fee and each half hour. I took apart the unit myself. The tech blew out a line. He was at my house for 23 minutes and left before 5 pm. It was $700. I called the office and was told that that was the conversation I had. There was no consideration at all despite it being before 5 PM and it was only 23 minutes. I had to pay for the full hour. Fine. That's their rate, shame on me for capitulating in desperation. That's their emergency or overtime rate. And they don't waiver. Buyer beware. 23 minutes was $700. read more

I've used Maccarone twice in the past year - 3/20/22 ($618 charge) and 11/8/22 ($706 charge) - to fix the same clogged sink line. After the second visit I called the office and questioned how they could charge me so much again to do what they said they had already done 7 months before. They were curt and rude - said the problem was that I was putting stuff down the sink that clogged it. I've owned this house for fifteen years and never had a problem with the line. Today it clogged again. I called another plumber who quickly diagnosed that the problem was in another connecting line. He cleared it, charged me $100 and said i shouldn't have that problem again for 15 years. read more

We have used Maccarone Plumbing for about 10 years now. Most recently, they installed a new boiler and hot water heater in our home. I have always found them to be reliable and professional. The work is always very well done and the plumber always takes the time to explain the issue, tell me my options and then review what work he did at the end of the job. The only reason this is not a 5 star review is that I find that they are higher priced than other plumbers. But, in my view, their professionalism and dependability are worth the extra cost. read more

RIP OFF! I had a technician come to fix a leaking faucet connection under my sink. The leak stopped but the faucet was completely screwed up, not working at all. 211$ just for that. I had another small drip in a copper pipe in my basement. When I asked him to just change the junction piece he said he had to replace the whole line, it would take all day ( which is complete nonsense) and would cost 1200$. Frustrated I had to call in another plumber ( Blit's Plumbing, came immediately, highly recommended!) to fix the damage of my faucet done by Maccarone...AND, Blit's Plumbing repaired the leak in my copper pipe for 240$.... read more

Maccarone Plumbing has done amazing work at my house for years including installing a new kitchen, three bathrooms, and a double washer dryer setup, and radiant heat floors throughout my entire home. I would trust them to do anything. One time I had a leak and the Plumber came in the house with white booties, gloves, and he made sure he always used a drop towel to protect against any water or dirt that would drop. Fixed 2 of 3 leaks well but the 3rd leak in my crawl space was not fixed properly. They wanted an additional payment to come back and fix it even though i reported it within 30 days. The leak was leaking in the same spot on the ground and the plumber tried to tell me it was a different leak. They wanted double the payment I orignally paid. First, my review of Yelp - it can't be trusted because it removes reviews that should remain. Second, my review of Maccarone. These guys are really, really expensive! They charged nearly $500 for a routine clean-out job, which I later found out I could have had someone else do for hundreds less! They drive nice trucks - now you know how they pay for them. Wow, no wonder this company has such bad reviews. I am a plumber; let me tell you that this company's customer service is horrible. The receptionist at this company was extremely rude. I called them, as a fellow contractor, to ask how they felt about a website they advertise on. My goal was to learn if it was a good web site to use. The receptionist, who said she does the advertising, claimed they did not use such service. When I informed her of the contradiction as it was how i found them, she said either I was wrong or they were. When I asked her to clarify she said "I have calls coming in" and hung up abruptly. We have used these guys on and off for close to 30 years. They have always done good work for us. They are licensed, bonded and insured, and you can expect that their work will be planned to meet the Building Code and that it will pass inspection by the building inspector. They are based in our hometown and now service virtually all of Long Island and Manhattan with a couple-hundred employees, having grown their business basically-entirely on word-of-mouth, so I find these negative reviews kind of shocking. However, I also know that there has been a trend in this country in recent years for people to avoid expensive licensed plumbers and instead to hire unlicensed and unqualified handymen to do plumbing work; this is aided by the fact that any moron can glue together pieces of plastic pipe in an arrangement that would appear to the untrained eye to do the trick; unfortunately, very often this work ends up needing to be ripped out when it doesn't function as intended (siphoning traps in fixtures, not draining well, clogging, etc.) because it doesn't meet the building code, which is designed to make sure that things function as intended. Very often, handy-hacks are much less expensive than real plumbers, and very often they end up being expensive because their work isn't good. But sometimes, their work is adequate, and then people get that price point in their head as being reasonable. I can get a guy to try to snake a drain for $49. Sometimes, his work will be good. Sometimes, he will put the snake right through the bend in the pipe, causing all heck to break loose. Will he have insurance and a bond to make the damage he causes right? Probably not, which is why he is less expensive. I think some of the negative reviews here are based on the feeling that folks got ripped off pricewise. I can say that Maccarone is not inexpensive. But in our experience, they come promptly, they know what they are doing, and they get it fixed right the first time. And their prices are comparable to other licensed, bonded plumbers on Long Island. I will give you three examples. First, this week a sink drain was backing up and leaking from around the trap where the tailpiece of the drain connects to the trap. I needed it done that night, for reasons that are unimportant. I called Maccarone at about 5pm. They explained that they would be happy to come, but that it would be much cheaper to do the work during normal business hours. I needed it and accepted the extra cost. The very nice guy came about 90 minutes later. He meticulously snaked the drain and disassembled the trap and tailpiece. I had pointed out that the trap looked crooked, and he agreed. He showed me how the tailpiece hadn't been cut to size when someone else installed it, so he cut it to the right size and reinstalled everything nice and tight. Leak solved. He also fixed the pop-up drain thingy, which had never worked. He put a piece of paper towel under the drain and tested it for drips. He went downstairs and examined the pipes from below to insure that the leak had stopped and that he hadn't damaged anything while snaking. He wore booties so not to damage our floors in the wet messy weather. He ran the drain a long time to make sure no leaks anywhere. While I went to cut him a significant check, he cleaned up the work area and even wiped down the sink and fixture. Great guy, super-pleasant experience, job done right the first time. Two years ago, our shower faucets didn't work right. A contractor had said they were not repairable and needed to be replaced, with retiling the wall, etc. Maccarone sent a guy, Jim Brown, who loves to work on old houses and is super-knowledgeable. Long story short, he knew immediately what model of 1950s-era faucets these were, got the replacement internal parts, and made them work like new, accessing the guts of the faucets just by taking off the handles. He gave us all sorts of caveats about what could go wrong when you try to disassemble a faucet this old, not to discourage but just to inform, and also gave us a price on putting in a new single-handle, which he could do without ripping out the tile. We were well-informed, and the price was fair given the amount of work involved and the fact that nobody else wanted to fix them (and probably couldn't even identify the make and model), and the fact that they have run flawlessly for like two years now. I referred Jim to some folks who needed a bunch of repair work done on their Aunt's old house, and they raved about how knowledgeable, nice, and good he was. Finally, Maccarone came last year within an hour when a pipe froze in the garage, and thawed it out before it burst. Again, it wasn't cheap, but it was knowledgeable, expert service. read more

We pulled their phone number off their website, which looked really professional, and didn't think much of it. Plumbers are always so expensive, so that's kind of expected regardless. Called Maccarone Plumbing to fix the lack of hot water in my 1st floor shower. They were a referral who said they were very good. The plumber arrived, looked at the shower, turned on every faucet in the house, walked around, talked and talked about pipes, coils, the weather, and then charged me $309.56! The plumber kept saying he had never seen anything like this before because the shower in my basement was emanating how water continuously. Finally he said I need a hot water storage tank and told me to go purchase that with my oil company! I am a family of 1 and am being told my boiler doesn't make enough hot water for one person! I knew there was a $175 service call fee but was never told there would be an hourly charge attached to it! The tech fixed nothing!!! I will never use nor refer this company to anyone ever!! Stay away from Macaroni Plumbers. They came to turn on a pilot light and then replaced two expansion tanks which cost $80 each. The tanks never needed replacement as also noted by the electrician. The bill for 15 minutes was over $900. They say that they could charge whatever they feel and won't always itemize the cost of their job. In my opinion they are not an honest company and are out to get as much money from their customers. Warning!!! Do not call them for any repairs. Going to court over this . I see several people have posted negative reviews but my experience was positive. My regular plumber could not resolve a problem with poor water flow in my house that was hurting my sprinkler system operation, and then my sprinkler company suggested I call Maccarone. They sent a pleasant plumber who was skilled at fixing such problems and the sprinklers are working fine again. The price did not seem exorbitant compared to what others charge. read more

I have used Maccarone plumbing on and off for about the last eight years. The technicians they send over to the house are very nice and knowledgeable - they usually show up on time and as promised. However, after reading the reviews here, I would agree that some of the folks that work in the office, especially Rose and Bea, can be very rude when you call up and certainly do not understand customer service. Additionally, similar to other reviews here, they clearly play games with their pricing and provide zero transparency. They charge $175 just for an estimate - when you get the estimate (after several weeks where nobody responds and you have to call and request what you paid for) - they call it "flat rate pricing" - there is simply once price listed for the job - when you ask for a detailed or itemized list of the pricing, for example how much for the boiler, how much for the labor, etc - they refuse to provide. So you're paying for an estimate, but can't get any of the details of what you're paying for. Now I'm not cheap and am more than willing to pay a premium for high quality service, but at least I want to know what I am paying for - and you won't know that if you use Maccarone. the biggest bums on the planet, stay far far away. they were supposed to install a generator at my house 2 years ago and its still not done. i already took them to court and they lied about every detail of my nightmare with them. they decided to place the generator wherever they felt like it instead of where i directed them do that would be hidden and out of sight. while my mom was in a coma in florida dying they put my not operational generator directly behind my gate so anyone entering my yard would trip over it. just stay away from these A--holes!!! read more

I wish I had read these reviews before calling Maccarone. Nearly $800 to replace a small part (a gas igniter) in my furnace. Granted, I called on a Saturday night and the repairman had to come back on Sunday. In total, he was at my house for under an hour - 1/2 hour the first day, 15 minutes the next. The only estimate I was given was $180 for the visit and $300 for the service if I chose to take it, in which case the $180 is not charged. When I asked for an itemized bill, The serviceman told me I would have to call to get it. I just called, and was told repeatedly that they don't itemize any of their bills and they get their figures from a book. This mysterious book is not shared with their customers. I'm so upset and will never call them again. It's unfortunate that in emergency situations one is easily taken advantage of, but I have no one to blame but myself.
