I stopped by MAC'd OUT inside the food hall and tried the small kids' mac & cheese with added chicken. The portions are definitely generous, especially for a small, so I do think the value is there if you enjoy their style of mac. The mac itself was very cheesy, and I liked the crispy breadcrumb topping, but overall it just wasn't for me. The noodles were very thick and not hollow, so they didn't really have that classic mac & cheese texture I was expecting. I think offering a few different noodle options would be a great improvement so customers can pick what they prefer. The chicken was also pretty bland and could use more seasoning. Service-wise, the guy who helped me was nice and friendly. Since it's located in a food hall, the ambience is casual and shared rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant, which makes it convenient if you're with a group. We got the Pimento Mac, which was very good. It had a hint of sweetness that I'm not sure it needed, next time I would probably add jalapeños or something to give it a little more spice. I came out to the Plant Street Market recently, to see what all the hype was all about. Some places are so over-hyped, but this place was not one of those place. The Market was absolutely appropriately hyped. The quantity and quality of the food stalls within were banging. One of those stalls I stopped at was this place, MAC'd OUT. Build your own mac 'n' cheese? These opportunities don't come around very often. I had to take advantage. There are a few curated macs that sounded pretty good, but I like personally being able to customize, so I dove in to the surprisingly affordable ala carte options. I don't remember exactly what I got, but I do know that chicken breast and caramelized onions were involved. Either way, they loaded up the tray, passed it through the rolling oven thing, and served it to me. The portion size of this thing was shocking. I'm not complaining. Just be forewarned. You should share this thing with one or two other people. So much tender chicken, so many perfectly cooked noodles, all smothered with that classic colored cheese you've been eating since you were a kid, and topped with slightly charred bread crumbs that added the perfect texture to this dish. This place, and the associated Chicago Stop, seemed to have employed young folk that couldn't get off their phones for longer than 15 seconds at a time. Must have been a good TikTok they were watching. Again, not a detractor for me. Just don't expect pleasant customer service. The same location also has Chicago Hotdogs that are soooo goood (but expensive). $6 for a regular sized dog is too much. If they were footlongs that would make more sense. We decided to hit up the little restaurant row on Halloween and since I love mac n cheese or seemed worth trying this place out. I will say that it's a bit pricey for what you're getting. I went with the Philly mac and it had the standard items you would find in a Philly cheesesteak sandwich buried in the creamy mac n cheese. I believe they also use several different cheeses that they melt all over the top of it. The flavor and seasoning was pretty good in this dish and it will fill a person up. We found this place on Google maps and decided to give it a try. I ordered the Philadelphia mac and cheese, and the wife had the buffalo chicken mac and cheese. We invited are girls and they had the bacon chicken explosion which she named herself and the pork belly. All of these were fantastic. I was very impressed with both the flavor of the mac and cheese sauce and the string is of the cheese that they put on top. I couldn't find anything to complain about other than it took a little while to get the order. Apart from that no complaints. We will 100% be back. My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what you expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special and a 5 means you were blown away. I have heard so many great things about Mac'd Out so I decided to stop in and pick lunch for my grandson. Lucky for me they were just setting up for lunch and I was able to comfortably ask questions without holding up what is usually a long line of people. I learned that the menu board is their chef inspired concoctions and they have another board with a list of proteins and vegetables. If you chose to create your own signature dish the proteins cost $2.00 a piece and the veggies 75 cents a piece. Although the menu board offered tempting combinations of mac & cheese I decided to go basic for my grandson. I added chicken and corn to the pasta with their cheese sauce. I was told that the pasta is fresh made and the cheese sauce is a blend of several high end cheeses. It cost a little over $12.00 for the kids portion. (About 3/4 cup of Mac & Cheese spread out flat in a tin and sprinkled with bread crumbs) They forgot to add the corn which surprised me because I only added two ingredients and I was the only customer. My grandson loved it. At 16 months old he tossed his newly acquired fork holding skills and grabbed the pasta with his hands. It was the first time that I have witnessed him picking up a plate to bring it to his mouth so that he could get the last bite of food. Usually when he picks up a plate it's to launch it as a symbol that he is done eating. read more

Cheese sauce is very good, both oozy and stringy from a mix of cheese types, some good slight bitterness, maybe from a gruyere or fontina. Pasta is very soft, if you like al dente, this is not your place. It's a hit with those who are mac 'n cheese fans, if you're not that into it, it's not life altering. I fancy myself a bit of a mac and cheese connoisseur. I've traveled far and wide to taste some good mac and cheese, and I've got to say, I'm pretty pumped to have one of the best mac and cheese spots EVER basically right in my backyard. I think part of why Mac'd Out has the best mac and cheese might be due to it being all that they focus on. Mac'd Out is a little stall in Plant Market--it's pretty unassuming, and you could easily miss it while walking down the aisle. There isn't any seating specifically for Mac'd Out customers, which can make finding a spot to sit with your mac difficult on a Friday night, but don't let that deter you. There is both indoor and outdoor seating for the entire market, and there are additional benches on the sidewalk to sit in. To get to the important stuff--the pasta itself. Mac'd Out has a few specialty mac and cheese's to choose from, or you can build your own from a variety of meats and veggie add ins. I got the philly cheese steak (thinly sliced steak, "caramelized" onions (really just onions) and red peppers), which oh my WOW was this incredible!! It's thick and creamy and cheesy and it has the perfect proportion of food to pasta to cheese ratio. Which is to say that there is a lot of the good stuff, a lot of pasta, and a heck of a lotta cheese (both cheese sauce and cheese on top). And the serving size is huge! I got THREE meals out of one dish! (It could have been two but I saved room for dessert ;) ). My fiance got their buffalo mac and cheese, and he was in heaven.
