I had purchased a Hormel Ham for Easter from the Murray Store@ 5600 South and 900 East.I live nearthe Holladay Store,so when my spouse said it was not sliced , I took it to the Meat Dept to have it sliced . The Meat Dept employee refused to assist, and I had to take it to the Murray Store. I took it to the Murray store, and a kind Meat Dept employee started to slice it for me. Then , the Meat Dept Manager gave me a lecture because, they should not have sliced this, even though I had the receipt, etc. This Meat Dept employee was rude and inconsiderate. I hope upper management at Associated Grocers looks at the comments I have made, as will go out of my way to AVOID ALL Associated Grocers Stores in the Future, because of the rude treatment I received. This particular Macey's is the WORST for customer service. All employees could use a refresher course on how customers should be treated. We have had DOZENS of horrible experiences at this store and will usually go to the Murray Macey's but this one happened to be on our way home. No checklanes were open so we had to use self checkout only to be completely ignored (AGAIN) when there was an issue. The employee "manning" self checkout was talking loudly to a co worker and even though our station signaled not once, not twice but THREE times for assistance, this clueless employee kept ignoring his job and kept talking loudly to his coworker. Finally I yanked our bags to another station only to have it self correct and I was able to finish the transaction. Any job I've ever had, the customer is the number one priority and any conversations with friends or co workers can wait. I am shocked that this continues to be an issue at this store. You have to ask for help before anyone will help you and they're so annoyed to be asked. Come on Macey's Holladay. You can do so much better. Be like Macey's Murray. It's not that hard. read more

This used to be Fresh Market, but then it got a nice facelift and is now a Macey's (you always know that for a fact if you can see a huge American flag billowing in the parking lot). New everything! Produce aisles, floor, shelves. They offer samples and great products that are easy to find. I love shopping organic and Macey's has a lot to offer. My only stipulation: the employees could be a little more helpful and kind. Because I'm still trying to get used to the new layout, I feel like I'm constantly asking for help. Most of the employees just assist without a smile or point me in the general direction. There have been a couple who at least walked me to the aisle I need, so they're not all bad. But customer service is KEY and if one of you happens to be reading this post, just up your game a little and my experience (as well as everyone else's) will be better, ten-fold! My wife and I have shopped here off and on due to the convenience of it's close proximity. However, having been consistently disappointed by the quality of their produce, we will happily be driving we'll out of our way to avoid this place. The first time my purchases of vegetables and fruits rotted within days I wrote it off as a fluke, the second time I was upset, and now this final straw leads me to expect that kind of terrible quality from their products. I'll include a couple of examples. I took a bite of an apple I suspected to be fine, only to find the inside had completely rotted, and began spilling out, the carrots we buy are covered in a mysterious white slime, and the bananas (which I purchased green) are black inside and out after only TWO DAYS. read more

This page would benefit from some cleansing, because as of right now it appears most of the reviews stem from when this was A Fresh Market. Which, to be transparent, I don't think there's a single A Fresh I would rate over 3 stars. They're generally outdated, but more importantly, have a really limited inventory. Enter Macey's, who's now in the shopping mall next to the fabulous Sicilia Mia, and IHOP, an American institution if there ever was one. This strip mall is quickly ascending in the ranks. I'll keep it short and sweet. Macey's is the complete opposite of the former A Fresh residence. New, clean, well-lit (seriously), but most importantly the inventory is stacked. I'm not sure what I expected, but I'm actually really impressed. They have a fatty selection of all the basics, plus a lot of surprise standouts. I recently went back to vegetarianism which means the produce, dairy and vegetarian freezer sections are my new jam. Produce is abundant, dairy has more than I'll ever know what to do with. Vegetarian sections are usually where I notice major inconsistenciesamong stores. I was very happy with Macey's selection. They carry the cornerstone, Morning Star, but also a lot of Gardein products, and some other vegetarian heavy hitters. Don't worry though, the butcher selection is looking solid in its own regard. Unless I'm physically assaulted by a cashier, I couldn't care less about service. Everyone here was cool, and got me in and out in a reasonable time frame. Seriously...that's my entire shopping goal. No it doesn't boast the grandeur of Harmons, Whole Foods, etc. But....it has a massive selection, a clean space to shop, and crowds are under control. Better watch your step in here. People be tripping. I come here on a semi regular basis. They often charge you more than what is listed on the shelf price. Just recently I bought item marked as three dollars but it ran up as eight dollars. And because I was doing self check out I had to go out to Customer service to get a refund. If time is money then I just wasted my time and money trying to get back my time and money. Boo. This isnt just an isolated incident this always happens. And Customer service doesn't even seem apologetic about it happening, more bothered about how her you're wasting their time. I come here for the water, which is pretty good if you are filling jugs. That's why they get more than one star. Currently I am looking for a new place that has water to fill my jugs so I can just start going there. Talking with the customer service , they said to us to get what we not received at the store. We explained that we can't. On our second call they just hang out. This grocery store used to be Albertson's. When it was an Albertson's it was great. Now that it is a Fresh Market it has seriously gone downhill. The good employees have left. The ones that remain clearly don't like their jobs any more. The new ones are just clueless and totally uncaring about customer service. I miss the guy who would sing loud operatic pieces ans scare all the old people. He was awesome. The chippery is gone. The Starbuck's is gone. The deli is terrible. There is no salad bar. The meats at the butcher area are not as quality. Thank goodness the same butcher stayed. He is awesome. The bakery stayed about the same. A lot of the dried goods that I like are no longer sold here having been replaced by horrible substitutes. Do yourself a favor and go to Harmon's instead. You'll be a lot happier. read more

The cashiers are very unfriendly. The store always seems cluttered and dirty and their grocery carts are all over and Holliday because the owner does not put stoppers on the grocery carts. I called and told one of the employees and they said maybe they would have somebody go get the carts that were left by a bus stop in Holladay. I find it disgusting and I would rather pay $50-$100 more and go to Harmons!!! read more

Welcome to the neighborhood, Macey's! We moved from Taylorsville a couple years ago, and one place we were definitely sad to leave behind was the neighborhood feel of the local Macey's. The Holladay location is freshly renovated, and is super clean. As is to be expected from Macey's, the bakery is great. On this visit I arrived frustrated because the pharmacy at the Wrong-Aid in Holladay had already closed (seems like it's closed every time I go, and I have no idea how that place is still open, but I digress). I called Macey's to confirm that the pharmacy was open, and it was! Their staff was extremely helpful, and truly seemed to care about my needs. One thing that I have always appreciated about Macey's is that the staff treats you like a neighbor, not a number. So glad to have Macey's as an option in Holladay. read more

First time to this store and I am leaving this review because of the customer service exceptional experience I had... genuinely helpful and friendly, I felt like my satisfaction was important to him and even though his section was the deli he helped me in the dessert and produce and was the only employee who was helpful I had been trying to receive help and was actually at first unhappy . When you have to make an emergency run to the store the night before Thanksgiving, you expect to make some substitutions in your recipe. Not of you went to Macey's! I've noticed a reduction in customer service since they changed from Fresh Market to Maceys. I shop the one in Taylorsville because it's 2 miles from my house. I'm done going there. My last visit I purchased 4 items on their buy 4 and save deal. They rang up at full price. I pointed this out to the cashier who said "Let's wait and see it it comes off at the end". When she hit the final total button she said, "Oh yes, it took that amount off at the end". No. It didn't. She lied to me. My receipt shows no credits at the end of it. Also, there's stuff missing when I get home. I paid for a magazine that wasn't there. My son, who was shopping with me, had some mexican rice in his bags that he didn't buy. Some one got home and didn't have the mexican rice they thought they bought. I hope the people behind me enjoy reading my magazine since the bagger was nice but a not good. read more

Yep, that sure is a grocery store! The selection here is great. I especially appreciate that they have a very expansive produce selection that features a few items that I don't often see at local stores, including selling loose shallots by the pound. My major complaint is the bakery. Compared to Dick's or even Harmon's, the offerings here are pretty paltry and often dry and unappealing. Aside from that, I find that they carry most everything that I want. There is also a serviceable coffee bar up front and some service deli items. read more

Went to Macey's yesterday for the caselot sale. Picked up the items we needed. While I was there I saw Libby's pumpkin on sale for a $1 a can. Great price right? Bought 10 cans. I was excited to show my wife this great deal. She was putting the cans away and noticed that the pumpkin was expired. Really Macey's? Is that why it was on sale? Selling expired food? The pharmacy and staff gets five stars... Randi is the best. The rest of the store I would give one star at best. Limited to no organic produce selection. Loyalty program that does nothing for you. Returning anything is a complete waste of time. The staff is nice and I think really tries to be helpful but has to deal with a bunch of nonsense when it comes to policies that are so customer unfriendly. The reason I give this store 2 stars is because it is close and I can self check out. I remember this store from years ago when it was Albertson's and it was such a great store, now.............. the produce isn't great, it is hard to get someone to help you in the deli and there is one of the scariest ladies that works as a checker here. (even if I have a full, full basket I will self check if she is working) I just don't understand mean people but this is definitely one. This grocery store often advertises two for one and then the check out charges full price for each. This has happened to me a couple times and I don't shop here often. Recently I went through self check out, which charged me $88 for 3 oranges. When I complained to the "helpful" person she was surely and said "someone" must have put in the $88 figure. The deli food is horrendously bad. I had the bbq chicken and the burrito; both tasted awful, were dry, and smelled rotten. I did not ask to sample nor did they offer. This is one of the more average Fresh Markets. It seems relatively clean and mostly ok in terms of layout, though the bakery needs a lot of help. I use Fresh Markets, as another person has noted, mostly as fill-ins, for if I need something more immediately and happen to be in the area, as I don't think they incentivize shopping there as well as Smith's does. In terms of convenience, it does ok, but I don't think I've run across one of these yet where I would do my main shopping, this one included. There's nothing wrong with this store, but nothing standout-ish, either. The only real complaint I can make about it is that the diagonal parking, given the entry to the lot, is probably something they may want to reconsider, as that is somewhat of a pain...and entirely unnecessary. They'd be better to re-stripe it into rectangular parking, as it would make turning into most of the spaces easier. read more

This is the worst grocery store in my area and I would rate Walmart higher even though I usually avoid shopping there. They don't have as good of a selection, prices, or customer service as Smith's. They just instituted a rewards program ("Plus" whatever), but when I learned about it I tried to take a card but the cashier lady took it out of my hand and said "That won't work, you need to give me your phone number". I was like, "Why? There's a website on the card." and she said something like "You won't get the discount on this transaction unless you give me your phone number". I was like "So?" then I noticed a photocopied form for email/phone and I picked that up and started filling it out because I didn't want to announce my phone number to the world but she grabs that too and puts it back on the stack! Why do they have these stacks of cards if they don't want us to take one?! She then grabbed the little Plus booklet from another lane (why does she have the useless stacks but not a booklet stack?!) but when I took it home and opened it up it had no address or website to send my information to! This is so stupid; Smith's was easy, they just gave me a card to fill out that I could mail in with my pile of neglected stamps. On top of that, the bagger forgot my last bag even though it was right in front of her and I couldn't reach it so I had to stand there and point to it and she grumpily handed it over. For crying out loud, how hard is it to do your job and have common sense?! I try to report the problem with the Plus thing and the cashier on their website and the form gives a 404! These guys are clowns who can't get their act together. I rarely shop there and I thought the Plus card would make it better but it's turning out to be more complicated than it's worth; I'll just stick with a grocer who actually knows how to do their job. read more

Don't trust the management or the food. Dirty store, ignorant staff. I'd rate negative stars if I could. Dollar Store has better produce...a few blocks south. I left six bags of choc chips at the checkout and called to let them know to keep it for me. When I arrived next day with my receipt I was told they would only be giving me four bags, not the six I purchased because they assessed the product wasn't on sale. However invalid to reprice my item after I purchased it didn't dawn on them. Although I called the previous night and told them to hold my purchase, sadly I had to go through a lot of harrassment to pick up a product I already bought! Explaining this to some ignorant supermarket employees the next eve. was common faire at this store. Their communication is at a preschool level. However one should pity such ignorance, I don't when they are hired to oversee my food purchases. I have considerably more pity on the customers having to enter this dive for staples. Try the Dollar Store for better service. Finally I got my six bags of chocolates back but not without a waste of 25 minutes of my time and telling them to call last night's checker who fouled the receipt. Regretfully the problem with these supermarket employees is their ignorance coupled with anger. When ignorant and angry people are put in a position unsupervised they unleash their vengeance to defend their ignorance which only winds up to support it. I noticed just recently a customer's review. They had an issue buying stale chips and the scathing cust.svc that ensued. Proven demand for excellent customer service has been completely betrayed by this store's employees. Don't trust them with your food choices. Shop elsewhere. Chris the manager has actually given me a half hour oration about his suspicion of his "lowest common denominator" customers last I was harrassed by an employee for returning a product I'd bought the previous eve and had my receipt! He was just upset I turned on my camera and filmed it. I know the founders of Fresh Market would be rolling in their graves had they experienced this. Worse, local corporate management is as difficult and shallow. The bulk bins are filthy and their meat section is continuously sprayed with bleach around six pm each day. The female empoyee I've noted doing this looks like she is going to pass out. Her red face and scowl and the smell of the entire area when walking past the meats is frightening. One feels the need to rescue this poor woman and tell here there is life outside of this toxic environment. I have never experienced such fervor in bleaching an entire fish and meat section. Some things must ritualistically die back there, or be dead for such length of time to warrant such bleach baths during prime time. Sally Schmidt had offered me a gift card for pointing out such horrors in the store, such as..did anyone else notice the price change on the soy beans but the lack of cleaning the entire bulk section? It is so entirely disgusting. The organic produce sits there until Fresh Market hopes it's sold. Meaning dead produce just sits there. Nothing under it is cleaned. I pointed this out. Schmidt offered a fifty dollar gift certificate for me and told me she'd mail it, but I told her I'd pick it up at that Fresh Market. I figured I could find one or two things to buy here, like a pint of overpriced organic milk. But when I called about picking up the certificate I was harrassed about having to show my ID. Why one would actually identify their personal information to a bunch of already tried and true ignorants is questionable, but I had already told Schmidt I identify myself by my pen name, and for her not to pass this info to the store when I had already made it clear to her of my identify shows that not only the store employees are ignorant. When I complained about the harrassment I received when trying to collect this gift certificate, where I recorded the conversation with the offensive front end manager and another employee eariler, who both contradicted themselves, I passed this on to Schmidt who rescinded the gift certificate because ....and this is her reason: she gave it to me so that I could re experience this particular store. What she didn't want to acknowledge either due to her inability to remember or due to her lack of ethics, is that she anticipated on mailing me the gift certificate meaning I could have used it at any store. I am the one who requested it be left for me at the store, along with a guarantee the store would graciously hand it to me. And due to the chocolate incident and others which I will gladly represent to anyone who requests followup, I wanted to insure a little thing like apologizing to a customer with a gift certificate and actually handing it to the customer wouldn't turn into another "lynch mob" activity.
