Let's start with the beer: 80+ on tap and another 20+ in bottles. If you can't find something you like, you just might be the problem. I went with a mead (sweet and smooth), while my boss played a round of beer roulette pointed, ordered, hoped for the best. He won. Food was solid: the Carolina-style loaded potato skins were a sleeper hit, my chicken sandwich was juicy and flavorful, and the boss enjoyed his salad (a sentence I never thought I'd write). So we went to MacGregor's in Gates on Sunday afternoon for a late lunch . It was pretty busy due to Match Madness so we were seated in a booth to the left of the hostess station. Our waitress came over after a few minutes and she took our drink orders which were 2 ice waters with lemon and 2 decaf coffees. She came back to the table with our coffees and the coffee wasn't warm I suspected it was there for a while. Much to her credit she didn't complain and she took the coffee cups back with her and brewed a fresh pot so when she came back we had fresh coffee. And it was good and hot. Then we ordered I ordered a veggie burger and a Caesar salad the Caesar salad was really big but it was fresh and very good. My veggie burger was also good. He got the boneless wings with honey bbq sauce on them and tater tots. He wasn't happy with the wings he didn't realize they'd be so crispy but he ate them anyway. He's got issues with his teeth. For a family birthday party, we had the most accommodating server and food to satisfy the children as well as adults. We had wings, potato skins, fries, and pretzels for appetizers while we decided on entrees. Salads, pizza, burgers, and sandwiches we all prepared well. We finished with our own carrot cake. She is obviously a natural team leader and this is coming from a man who has had 15 plus yrs in the service industry. Went to watch the Bills game this past Saturday. It was really busy but we got seated right away. We ordered wings (Buffalo Mild ) that were really good. We also got the beef nachos which was good and extremely large but for such a large portion of nachos the sides (salsa, guacamole and sour cream ) were really small. Next time I would definitely choose a different meat like pork or chicken. Our waitress was nice but when she asked if we were done and we said, "yes". She took our nachos ( which was still over half a plate left) and never bagged them up to go. She just assumed we weren't taking what we didn't finish. Nice large bar eight in the middle of the place, with so many cold beers on draft here you can't go wrong. I was happy to see Brooklyn summer ale being one of them. I went with chicken fingers and onion rings for lunch..with a side of honey mustard dipping sauce. The chicken fingers were great, nice and tender. The onion rings were good, crispy coating. One complaint I have is it's usually very loud (music) at the bar. Food is ok. Nothing really spectacular but they do have some interesting and different items - like Scotch Eggs! My mom and I came here his past Thursday night at 7:30 PM. The bar was pretty packed but we were just coming for dinner so it didn't really matter. There were a lot of open tables yet we were told there would be a 10 minute wait. After about 5 minutes we were seated by the host who pointed to the table to sit at rather than actually seating us. When we sat down we were quickly greeted by our waitress (Shannon, I think) who was very nice and brought out our drinks we ordered very quickly. We then ordered right away our meals - no differentiation from the menu - A cuban a sandwich and a Turkey wrap. Then came the problem - We waited for 50 minutes to then be seen again, which was when we were then given our meals. Our nice waitress then came over to check on the order to make sure it was accurate (which it was) and when she saw we were finished quickly brought us our bill. The food was pretty tasty for sure but not worth an hour wait to get. This was the second time my mother has dined here where she has had beyond acceptable slow service. So all in all the waitstaff is alright, the food is good, prices are fair and the speed is beyond slow. MacGregor's is my favorite bar because they have tons of beers to choose from and pretty solid food. I loved the old Coldwater location in Gates but they're now on Buffalo Rd. The new spot is much bigger but I don't like how the bar is in the center, it makes everything seem a bit too crowded. Anyway, the food is really good. The Tater Totchos are the greatest thing ever invented and I always order them. The fried pickles and pretzels are also very good. Tonight I ordered the Ricky C's Homemade Meatballs and was disappointed in the food for the first time. The Meatballs seemed overcooked and were too hard. I was hoping for a nice soft meatball that kind of fell apart in your mouth. These were just okay. That being said, usually this place has solid food and a really great beer list. Starting to see a bad pattern. A week or two ago we arrived only to be told they wouldn't be seating for at least an hour since the kitchen was backed up. We were seated around 20 minutes later (great) and server took our app order. 30 minutes later, since she never stopped by, we flagged her down. Response was the hostess should have told you food would be 45-60 minutes. We said we were never told that and she began to say it was basically not her fault since we should have been told. I said yeah but, your our server and good service is good service. She then said app should be coming out soon but mains would be another hour so we got the check and bounced. I don't know where the poor management is but if the kitchen can't handle the tables you have there's a problem in need of fixing. Came here for a friends engagement party last weekend! The food was delicious as always, definitely up to par with the other MacGregor locations in the Rochester area. I had the chipotle boneless wings and Tator tots, and hubby tried a few different beers! The service was definitely not up to standard though. Our newly engaged friends advised of 50 guests or so, but upon arrival they only had set up about 30 chairs in the back area for our group. As to be expected, there was about 20 of us standing in the back room, which isn't really made for that kind of party. We were standing around other people's tables, and it was awkward. I had the sweetest waitress and hostess coming into this establishment today. It was a rough day at work for me. They didn't know. But their empathy as a solo patron of their restaurant, they showed compassion. I've been here several times for happy hour with my co-workers. The place is huge, so a great place to get together with a bunch of people. It gets really loud in here after work hours, so don't expect to have any real conversation without screaming on the top of your lungs. This review is mainly for the food. Anyways, I've tried the macho nacho (with pulled pork), the tater tots, and the meatballs here. The macho nacho is huge! You can't see the rim of the gigantic plate it came on, and was piled high with chips and plenty of pork. The pork was tender and actually had great bbq flavor. I was surprised considering how colorless it was when it came out. It's definitely a great value dish, especially for big parties. The tater tots were your standard taters, if you love potatoes go for it. The meatballs are disappointing though. It was plated pretty nicely, but you only get 2 big meatballs, not a great sharing dish for big parties. There was very little meaty flavor to the balls, and the sauce it came with wasn't anything exciting either. Overall, I'd come back for the nachos because of the great value. read more

This by far was the absolute worst panini Cuban I have ever had. It consisted of very spicy pulled pork & a very small piece of overcooked shriveled up ham & a very small piece of some kind of white cheese with wedges of pickles on flatbread that tasted like paper. Very dry. The steak fries were over cooked, cold & dry. A Cuban consist of a piece of roasted pork & ham not fried ham! And melted Swiss cheese! I will never order from this place again. Then proceeded to bring out a lemon with her bare hands and try to put it in my sisters drink repeatedly when it clearly wasn't cut properly to sit on the edge of a cup. Brought a rather large party here for drinks and appetizers. There were probably over 20 of us. We didn't sit at a table, we were sitting the bar. There were a good number of bartenders on and they did a good job. The down side. the appetizers are really small (and pricy) in my opinion. They are barely shareable except the nachos. The nachos were the best thing we ordered and the price is decent. My Issues are with the homemade chips, guac, salsa, cheese sauce. For 8.99 the size of the guac is puny compared to the other sauces and you don't get enough chips. For 7.99, you only get 5 mozzarella sticks... the quesadilla is rather small... smallest I've ever gotten (but delicious). I asked the bartender which appetizers to get to share and she said the only one shareable was the nachos. I will be taking my large parties elsewhere from now on where I know I can get large appetizers. Also if you're not a beer drinker you are limited to what you can drink because there is no cocktail menu. No mojitos etc. And they don't have real bottles of wine they have pre-packaged wine cups. No thanks. The good parts. The bar is humungous so there's plenty of seating. they did a really great job with it. They have lots of bar tables too. The pepperoni pizza was awesome! So this place used to be me and my boyfriends place to eat and drink. One evening we were leaving and my boyfriend fell. He has multiple sclerosis and falls without having anything to drink. We were banned and the bartender pleaded for us to stay. We were able to but with a two drink limit. We went to the macgregors off of Jefferson and we were served a few beers. When my bf ordered another the bar tender said you are slurring your speech and I won't serve you another. I got up and was like he has MS.
