This is a very popular tex mex place in cherry creek. Great location and good happy hour (due to covid they don't have it) I've been to machete twice so far. First time I really enjoyed the tacos and ambiance. We got a table outside and it was the perfect place to sit and relax! The second time I've gone we were seated inside in the very back. This was a dark and very warm area to be seated. I feel like I could barely see the people I was with. This time around I got a skinny marg which was tasty at first but soon became very watery. The chicken quesadilla is good and packed with flavor. The chips and salsa (not complimentary) are so yummy. 4 types of salsas with what tasted like homemade chips! Yum. The service was a bit slow but I didn't have an issue as I was enjoying my conversations. Prices are a bit on the higher side but you're paying for the location. They do have 2 other locations in Denver so I might try out one of those before coming back to this one. read more

Enjoyed my first trip to machete last night! I went there with a group of 15 people for a birthday party, and the staff was very accommodating. Fun decor and candles in this dark restaurant. The tacos were great, but my Strawberry margarita was a bit on the strong side, and was a one-and-done for me. One thing I was not crazy about, was when our server offered to bring chips, guac, and salsa for the table, we said yes, not knowing that meant four orders, which equated to $40. I'd recommend you're specific in how many you want, so as not to be surprised. We left around 10:15 p.m., and the place was still packed, so business seems to be going well! FYI, the restaurant is across the street from Union Station, not actually one of the restaurants in Union Station. Parking can get tricky around this area, had to use the garage 2 blocks up for $10. This is a must try if you are in Cherry Creek North area. We went for Sunday Funday & it's probably one of the best tacos we've ever had, faaaareals. I started of with their Michelada.. it was decent. I am really tough with micheladas as I found the best one in Houston, (Captain Toms -- go, order it, trust me) so I almost always find every other michelada just decent. 3.5/5 We ordered the chips & guac for starter & it was tasty! Very delicious. It came with 4 other sauces/salsa.. They were delicious too. Devoured that app in 2 mins. 5/5 Then we ordered 12 different tacos. All were sooooo gooood!!!! All were tasty, but if there was a standout, just a tiny bit better than the rest, its the lobster taco. But then again, all are superb so order with confidence. Love the platter of tacos. You choose 12 tacos for forty something dollars. Perfect for four people. The tacos are good sized, I was half expecting them to be tiny, but they were hefty. Atmosphere: Small, tables close to each other, dark. The decor reminds me of San Diego, CA (which is great!) Ease of Menu: Menu is easy and straightforward. Service: Kind of messy - Like, we had server. Then relocated inside due to rain. new server. Old server showed up again to help us. Confusing. Server bused our table and left the check then disappeared for 35 minutes. We wondered where she went because we were ready to pay our check and leave. Eventually we grabbed our check and went to the POS station to have some random server ring us up and split our tab. Then our 2nd server reappeared with an adjusted tab which deducted our chips and salsa. It was just confusing and wondered what was going on. Suggestions & Feedback: The tacos are in the Average - OK side of things. The pescado taco was incredibly salty, like honestly, Bonneville Salt Flats kind of salty. Both of us at the table ordered it and both of us made several comments about how gross it was. The langosta taco is also really gross. It tastes like mayo and despite my request for there not to be any mayo on my langosta, there it was.... all over my taco. Both me and my friend who ate at Machete are from San Diego, CA. We know good tacos and great tacos...and "meh" tacos when we see them. There are other options in Denver for tacos. Its nothing that a comp'd meal would fix. Nice taco place on the lower level. Room is a little small but a lot of fun. The bar seats maybe 10 - 15. Masa crisps and salsa are available instead of chips. They were pretty good. Four salsas were along side. Not sure what each of them were but all pretty tasty. I had the Aracherra, Campechano, and Pollo Rostizado tacos. All were very good and I would recommend each. The Frijoles puercos were also good. The tacos are street style so two or three make up a decent meal. read more

Hands down the best Mex I've had in awhile, and I'm spoiled AF. I kinda stumbled upon on the Cherry Creek location earlier today and after pre-judging the space cuz it gave off a late night/ underground college/ somewhat used bar vibe, I was confident the tacos here would be mediocre at best. Either way, I snagged a spot on the very well designed patio and hunkered down for what would be a couple hours until my suit got tailored a couple blocks away on my random day away in Bronco territory. Oh cool, they have several mezcal drinks, let's try the Oaxacan. Drop mic, perfecto. Let's try their veggie taco, De la Milpa. Double drop mic, perfecto again. After those two, I knew these vatos knew what was up. I proceeded to order a few more tacos, and each and every one was made with care, precision, love and knowledge. Each and every single taco served was as bomb as it can get, period. I'm from California and own a couple bad a$$ Mex restaurants in Aspen and Cali, and while I've had my fare share of Mexicano Perfecto, this place in the middle of landlocked Denver, America USA just served me up one of the most legit/ best fish tacos I've ever had. This is a fact that is NOT easy to accomplish. Please understand/ respect these Mad Kudos. "I'm not that hungry" was my motto, cuz earlier in the day someone told me to check out Uno Mas Taqueria down the street (it was actually decent/ good), but I really wasn't as hungry as this grub enthusiast normally is cuz of that prior stop. But, cuz of the deliciousness of everything so far, I had to proceed. I decided to change it up and check out their Union Station location instead of sitting in rush hour traffic for the next 90 minutes and as it turns out, this was a very good call. First things first, I walk in the door and yet again another drop mic on the super pimped out and killer decor and vibe. Lots of masks & fantasy. Dark, edgy, mysterious and cool. Dope fasho. Hip hop, rap and Rasta reggae vibes channeling thru the speakers... all of which were super on point and dramatically added to the excellent-ness of the scene. Staff was knowledgeable, professional, quick, cool & chill. Whoever set these places up (manages, oversees & created) deserve big ups and I hope to share some margaritas at my restaurants in Aspen and California sometime in the future so I can give you a very well deserved high 5. I was here before a few years ago, 2014, must not have reviewed it - great place! The 'building' is so cool because it's down from the sidewalk, and has multiple levels of that outdoor seating, terraced I guess you could say and it's really cool! Then the indoors is dark, cool and comfortable with lots of big screen TV's with sports and no sound, which is a nice distraction if you want it. Great little bar and the bartender was outgoing and attentive, he made me a (uh, actually two) house margaritas that it turned out later, were stronger than I thought, as they went down so smoothly. I had their version of Ceviche which for $10 was a little disappointing; it was served on little shells (what do they call those....) not in a glass in lime juice like I'd expected. Not that great, wouldn't order it again. My friend had a meat/sauce dish, I don't remember which but IT was delicious. It's a very nice relaxed clean fun Cherry Creek non-stuffy destination that's worth checking out. A small group of us stopped in here on Saturday afternoon for a late lunch and all had a great experience - the tacos are wonderful (DEFINITELY try the lobster tail taco), chips and salsa/guacamole were great and the beers were cold. Can you ask for more? We were able to be seated right away, but I'm assuming they'd encourage making a reservation as it started to fill up quickly. I came here with some friends while visiting Colorado and this was definitely our favorite place we stopped at! It was happy hour so we all got margaritas, they were delicious and strong. We then ordered the 4 salsas and guacamole, all of the salsas were good in their own way. I tried the huitlacoche quesadilla and it was so good! It was a little scary looking because the tortilla was black and some of the stuff on the inside of the quesadilla was too, but whatever it was, was amazing! I also tried some of my boyfriend's al pastor taco and that was mouthwatering too. Our server was very patient and helpful while we were deciding and asking a ton of questions(I think his name was Scott). I would highly recommend this place to any fan of yummy Mexican food and good margaritas! read more

Came to Machete after reading several reviews on our trip to Colorado. Food was good, but pricey. Took advantage of their Sunday Funday specials. Had guacamole, salsas, and chips; Michelada; Campechana, Al Pastor, and De La Milpa tacos. Michelada tasted mostly of clamato juice, the al pastor taco lacked flavor and tasted mostly the pineapple. The tacos were hard to grab the juices/oils soaked the tortilla. The guacamole was made pre -made. Not sure I'd come back if I visit Denver again. read more

Stopped in for happy hour with friends; enjoyed the pork, pork rib, hanger steak and chorizo, and chicken tacos. The taco was reportedly corn, though tasted flour based (didn't care for it) BUT the fillings were all delicious. The skinny margarita was also very good and recommended by our server over the traditional. The first round was great, though our second round needed to be sent back bc it was too sweet. They corrected the issue easily, but it did happen again. Gave it overall 3 stars bc wasn't the best tacos I've enjoyed. Again the shells, though fresh, tasted floury and two of the four rounds of drinks needed to be sent back. After the first time (and reminders of preferences) it should have been self corrected. They practically threw us out at 9:30pm. Not how customers should be treated or it won't be long until there are no customers. I hope the owner reads this so changes are made. I have been to Machete a few times over the past couple of years and, during my recent visit, was appalled by the lack of service. We went midday Saturday and sat on the patio.. When we first arrived, the patio was close to full, but the crowd thinned out halfway through our meal. Our server took nearly 15 minutes to deliver our first round of drinks, while the second beer I ordered took about 20 minutes to be delivered. He rarely filled our water and never came by to check on us. The check also took nearly 15 minutes to get... Although our server walked to all of the tables next to us multiple times. The margaritas are tasty, but highly overpriced. $13 for a tiny margarita?! No thanks. We each ended up spending about $25 with the salsa trio, the queso fundido, 1 taco total, and drinks between 4 people. I don't think I will be back anytime soon. read more

This location is pretty decent- for some reason not as good as the union station one. They have several vegan options and are also very accommodating. My favorite is the de la milpa (zucchini taco). Disaster is really the only word I can use to describe this place. It just goes from bad to worse. Besides choosing to dine here, my first mistake was sitting at the bar. Sat next to two older dudes who were pounding shots with the bartender and then rating the waitresses and other women in the restaurant on their looks as they walked by. That was a nice touch. The female waitresses would come by and chat with them for a while which partly explains why the service is so bad. Bartender took our order but was clearly hammered so he had to ask us our order 3 times because he forgot. We ordered chips and Queso & a chicken quesadilla... Anyway, the Queso came out and it was the kind in the skillet. It was so cold that we literally had to cut it with a fork. Inedible. Also didn't come with chips. We asked someone for chips and they said that we needed to order them with our waiter aka bartender. Instead of chips they gave us a literal bag of flour and corn tortillas. Really thought when you ordered "chips & Queso" that it came with the chips. Quesadilla came and it was cold and soggy. Couldn't even pick it up without it falling apart. Just a soggy mess. Drinks were fine I guess. We wanted to get our check but our bartender was back with the two fine gentleman mentioned above pounding another round of shots. Finally i had to go ask the hostess if we could get our check. Don't think I've ever had to search down someone to ask for a check. Check ended up being $77 for crappy food and 3 drinks. The service was some of the worst I've ever experienced in Denver. The food didn't even stand a chance either. Disaster. read more

This is a cute hole in the wall joint, which is a nice change from the usual fine dining restaurants that mostly take up Cherry Creek. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the staff are always super sweet and on top of things. When you initially look at the menu, you may be surprised to see that most of the margaritas range from $13-$16 (however, probably not the biggest shock being in Cherry Creek), but don't let that fool you because these margaritas pack a PUNCH, and they are delicious. I asked for a double initially, but our server advise against that as he said all margs come with 2 1/2 shots. He wasn't lying. I got quite a nice buzz from just one marg, and had to stop after that. My favorite is the strawberry marg, which is muddled with fresh fruit and none of that yucky, fake syrup. Its delicious, and very smooth considering the hefty volume of booze inside. I've never tried their food, only the drinks- but this is a tequila bar after all, so we really only go for the tequila. Someone had said to me though that their tacos are fantastic, which I don't doubt. This is one of my favorite places to go when I'm in CC, and I usually always make it in there when I'm in the area. I love the sunken patio, it makes for a nice atmosphere with plenty of shade. More importantly, I love the food! It's tough to pick a favorite appetizer... quesos fundidos with chorizo is of course good, as is the guacamole. I think most of the time I'd have to go with their chips and 4 salsas. The salsas are a little different than what you find in most places, but they've got a creamy green one which is absolutely delicious! The tacos are also incredible. You especially have to try the campechano and the al pastor. The campechano comes with steak, chorizo, and a big piece of melted Oaxaca cheese that makes it. The al pastor perfectly balances sweet and savory with pinapple and marinated bits of pork grilled to just the right juicy crispiness. Machete is quickly becoming my favorite taco place. read more
