Turkey Salami on Crazy Wheat bread
    Jordan F.

Okay first thing to say about my experience, location sucks! Located next to other shops it was easy to pass by this small spot. I had to circle around to find the parking. Well there is enough parking in the back parking lot. But there's this security guard there. I asked if he's the parking attendant and he said I'm security. I asked where machetes is and he said that's in the front I only care about the back. So I guess that's his only job to watch the parking lot. And it's located across a homeless camp. So I can see why the need for parking security. Such a turn off! Upon entering machetes I was greeted. The worker asked if I was ready to order and I said just another minute as I wanted to look over the menu for what I wanted since it was my first time. The counter was covered in devices I guess a lot of people order from here. I ordered a turkey and salami sandwich. The worker then asked if I wanted it on the white or brown wheat bread. I chose wheat. While waiting I asked if they make their own bread and they do so I was impressed. The worker asked me, you say you didn't want tomatoes? Then I responded I want everything it supposed to come with. I thought I heard him say a second thing but wasn't sure and I was looking closer to the menu. I didn't realize you can add items to the sandwich for free. The worker then hands me the sandwich wrapped ready to go. I then said oh sorry can you add peppers, cucumbers and Italian vinaigrette. He did not look happy. I apologized saying sorry it was my first time. He said it was cool. Well proceed to pay. And he said have a nice day and I said thanks and left. Sandwich tasted amazing! Big portion! The wheat bread was so soft and light. Refreshing from all the vegetables. And moist from the vinaigrette. Although peppers were missing. Total for just the and sandwich was $13.40. Not a bad sandwich. Just a weird location and weird vibe. Don't forget that there are free addons and a list of them in a tiny section on the bottom of menu. They won't remind you it's there or offer it lol. I'd come back.

Been wanting to try Machete's for a long time now, and I must say I'm so bummed I didn't try them sooner. WOW!!! Excellent sandwiches, and can we talk about their bread?? The softest bread I've ever had!! Ordered a turkey and a roast beef and both were great. Everything was sliced thin, and the meat and veggie ratio were on point. I'm already planning my next sandwich...... I loved their tape they used to wrap the sandwich, very cute!!

Placed my order on-line requested for delivery. Ordered for myself and co-workers and everyone was pleased with their order. the sandwiches are substantial! the delivery was right on time. They were nice enough to add everyone's name on the sandwich wrap. Well made, neatly packed sandwiches, the bread is really delicious.

Turkey sandwich but they forgot the turkey

I ordered a #11- Turkey Avocado Bacon. I wanted cracked wheat bread, but was told they ran out. Got the white bread because I didn't want to wait 1 hour. This is a take-out only option. Got to my location and noticed they forgot the turkey in my turkey sandwich. Went back and got the corrected version. They let me keep the original sandwich, but I didn't eat it because it barely had anything in it. The finished product is basically all bread. Maybe I can request that they slice the bread thinner when I order a sandwich. I just couldn't taste much of the inside with the thick bread. Also, they forgot my mustard packet twice, but my bad for not checking.

When we landed, the plane had to sit on the tarmac for a little over an hour due to an earlier arrival and no parking spaces available...LOL! I was beginning to get hungry. But by the time I got my car and checked into my hotel, I was starving!!! I drove over to U Choice but parking was chaos, and then I remembered Machete and how I didn't get a chance to go on my last visit. Parking can be a challenge, but luckily, there was one on the side street! The worker didn't hear me come in and I was trying to figure out what sandwich I wanted. There's quite a number of them to choose from. I decided to get The Machete...turkey, pastrami, ham, salami, cheddar, and provolone, with tomato, lettuce and onions, mayo and Italian vinaigrette. This sandwich was sooooooooo good! It "killed" my hunger! LOL! My only regret was not grabbing some napkins because I was eating on the go. The worker was really nice and made the sandwich quickly so the wait wasn't too bad. Definitely worth checking out!

Ordered delivery for a large lunch order (minimum $100 order needed for delivery). Delivery fee was $4.99, so not too bad. Service was very fast as the order came 20 minutes before the scheduled time. Sandwiches were labeled with everyone's name as requested, which made it super easy to get everyone their order. I got the turkey, bacon, and avocado on cracked wheat. It was a good sandwich pairing. Sandwich is big and is super filling - I only ate half and saved the other half to eat for lunch the next day. Definitely worth the price! The bread is super soft!

A family member had walked by this spot many times and finally tried on their own. Verdict was, they loved the place and sandwiches so we had to try it again together! I absolutely loved the food, so if you're a fan of big quality sandwiches, this place is worth checking out! Located on Kalakaua near Don Quijote, they have dedicated parking out back and on the side streets. It's a small shop, more to get to go than eat there. You can order online for scheduled pickup, which was an easy way to pick what free and premium additions you'd like as well. Prices are reasonable for fresh produce, quality meat, and large portions. On pickup the sandwiches were ready and accurate to our order. The cashier and sandwich maker was extra friendly and happy to talk to customers. The bread is baked fresh daily, it's perfectly soft with soft firm crusts. Also, thanks for the fun doodles about each sandwich! I look forward to trying this place again and am thankful for little reasonably priced restaurants like this popping again.

Great little hole in the wall sandwich shop on the edge of Waikiki and close to the Convention Center. The must try is the white bread. It's sliced thick and tastes like butter. Be sure to add the Freemiums to your sandwich when you're checking out otherwise you gonna get what is listed in the sandwich description on the menu.

Got the Machete and it was sooo mean. Heavy with meats and the bread is made fresh. Chef's kiss. Service was fast and friendly.

TL;DR Solid sandwich spot... if you don't mind the ratio of bread : meat ----- Parking here is hit or miss. There's a lot behind the building with several spaces, but a lot of the time there are no open spots. I'd recommend calling in your order and parking illegally somewhere for a couple minutes so you can run in and pick up your sandwiches quickly. But you didn't hear that from me. When I first tried this spot I thought it was very good. My wife and I just about claimed it as our favorite sandwich shop in town. As I continued to visit, however, I realized that, yes, it's very good, but it's not great. And I just couldn't put my finger on the issue. The bread is homemade from scratch and has wonderful texture and flavor. The sandwiches are made with fresh, high quality ingredients. The portions are reasonable for the price. Then, the last time we picked up from Machete's, my wife pointed out that there's very little meat in each sandwich. I took a closer look and finally understood my concern... there's barely meat in my sandwich! Ohhhhhh, noooooo. They do a good job of concealing this flaw through veggie volume, but if you look closely at my picture, there's maybe 2-3 slices of turkey. That's definitely not enough with how thick cut the bread is. I unfortunately haven't been back since. I'm thinking next time I will try "The Machete" and hopefully that sandwich will offer a more reasonable meat : bread ratio. We shall see...

First, over time, they switched from white bread to whole wheat, which I can understand if they want it to appear healthier. Now it wasn't delicious anymore, but still acceptable. More recently, when I tried it again, the taste seemed off. To my taste, the recipe has changed. I didn't just try one, I tried a second sandwich as well. It is no longer even okay. We also shared an acai bowl that was super fresh and had strawberries, bananas, and blueberries. They have indoor and outdoor seating and other pastries and items on the menu to order. Super close to Waikīkī beach if you want to enjoy on the beach as well. Service was great, workers were friendly and kind. There were some birds around trying to come for our fruit. This place was just two blocks away, so we braved the November misty rain and consistent wind through the buildings to make it over here. To be fair, this seemed more like a Vietnamese coffee joint and a Banh Mi place... so maybe coming here for pho wasn't our best idea. They had two kinds available that night-- beef and chicken. Since chicken pho is not something I'm willing to try, we both ordered up the dac biet. The broth was bland with a thin and unpleasant veil of grease along the top that congealed quickly on the rim of the bowl. It wasn't hot enough, or maybe the pre-cooked and chilled noodle block they poured it over cooled it off. Meat was chewy and low quality. The sprouts and basil were soggy and wilted. Honestly, it was a get up and leave kind of thing. The whole place was just dingy and didn't feel great. I've eaten at some very modest places in my native San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, so it's not a snobbery thing. It's a "someone get a Swiffer wet jet and some paper towels and give this whole place a once-over. Speaking of once, that's the sum total of times we'll ever eat here. I had visited their sister location the night before in Waikīkī and had such a great experience that I told my wife, "If this place is anything like last night, we're in for something good." She agreed--and we decided to give it a shot. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by Colby, a tall, friendly guy with a great attitude. I mentioned my experience from the night before, and he immediately said he wanted to live up to that standard. That kind of response set a really positive tone. We ordered two Aroma Specials: Dolce & Banana (me) Nutella Latte (my wife) For food, we went with: P.B. Delight açaí bowl Turkey pesto panini Bacon & egg bagel Total came out to about $62, which we expected given the location near the beach. We grabbed a seat inside by the window (outside seating was full--no surprise on such a beautiful morning). Our drinks came out quickly--but unfortunately, this is where things started a little rough. We both noticed right away that something was off. My wife's Nutella latte didn't have that rich hazelnut flavor you'd expect, and my Dolce & Banana was missing the banana entirely. Honestly, they tasted almost identical. When I politely mentioned it to a staff member who brought out our food, the response felt dismissive and didn't really address the concern--which was disappointing and definitely not the experience we were hoping for. At that point, we decided to just enjoy the food and move forward--and I'm glad we did, because the food was fantastic. The turkey pesto panini was loaded with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with melty cheese. The bacon & egg bagel was hearty, well-balanced, and super satisfying. The P.B. Delight açaí bowl was the surprise standout--perfectly blended, fresh, and the peanut butter added an awesome richness that made it feel like a treat. Everything on the food side absolutely delivered. A few minutes later, Colby came by to check on us--and this is where the entire experience turned around. I let him know honestly: "The food is amazing, but the coffee missed the mark." Without hesitation, without attitude, and without making excuses, he said, "Hang on, let me fix that." I even told him not to worry about it--we were enjoying ourselves regardless--but he insisted. "Rick, I got you," he said. Within minutes, he came back with two freshly made drinks and a sincere apology. We took a sip and immediately--night and day difference. The Nutella latte had that rich, distinct hazelnut flavor. The Dolce & Banana finally had that smooth, balanced banana note Exactly what we were hoping for the first time. Colby is the MVP Colby completely turned this experience around. His attitude never changed--he was smiling, positive, kind, and genuinely cared about making things right. No defensiveness, no excuses--just great customer service and follow-through. That kind of service is rare, and it matters. It's evident that not all the workers have that same dedication to customer service but Colby does! What could have been a disappointing visit ended up being a great one because of him. Hawaiian Aroma Caffè--take care of this young man! He represents your business incredibly well. He needs to be leading your team on what customer service looks like and they need to follow his lead. From naming customers by their first name, to holding that perfect smile the entire time, to checking in with guests after receiving their meals and really caring about their experience. Colby naturally has it and should be showing every one how to do it as well! The Future Looks Bright for Colby and if you don't take of him, someone smart will! Final Thoughts Great food, great location, and a really cool atmosphere--but what stood out most was the service recovery. Mistakes happen anywhere. What matters is how they're handled--and Colby handled it perfectly. Because of him, we'll absolutely be back. Thank you again, Colby--keep doing your thing. You made our day. - Dr. Rick

He literally told me "you can either have it in the sandwich or not at all" even though I'm paying for the ingredients. He then added on that if I wanted to pay extra for the premium add-ons ($2 for a slice of cheese), I could get THOSE on the side. To make the sandwich worth even LESS than the $10 for turkey and lettuce, I watched as he cut the bread in half and DUG OUT the insides of the bread and threw it away before putting the turkey and lettuce into what was left of a very skinny baguette shell.
