Four stars just for the Colombian empanadas and the side sauces that go with it here. SO GOOD. I wish I could have a dozen right now. This place is good for lunch, as they have good lunch specials on weekdays. Fridays is Fish Fillet with seafood sauce, comes with your choice of 2 side dishes and a small soup. They have really good fruit juices such as maracuya, Mora, and different Colombian sodas. The food for the most part is very good, with great taste and bountiful. I try to stay away from the fried dishes such as chicharron and bandeja paisa which are a bit too much for me . Their carne asada/churrasco lacked flavor/marinade, as it tasted very bland. good thing their chimichurri helped a bit. Service is always friendly however not always attentive/effective. love it. macitas is straightforward and traditional with their colombian food. no fancy spinoffs with dishes or offering foods from other countries in their menu (unlike La Moon), this is a typical, old school and casual colombian place to eat. give me a fresh "pan de bono " and a coffee in the morning at macitas, and im good to go. thanks Macitas, for staying true to your roots. theres a reason this place is always buzzing with customers inside. weather its staying to eat, or ordering to go by the bakery, we appreciate it. read more

I just ate here for lunch with two of my coworkers. Yummy! Two of us had the calentado with eggs. I also had an empanada..so delicious! I definitely recommend it. I have been to other Colombian restaurants and this is one of the best. read more

Im sorry but this is so far the worst service i had in a colombian restaurant, the food is a 6, because the meat had half a pound of salt and the rice none, the chicharron was cold and hard, and i went to buy some food and the bakery side and they said they will add the balance to my check, when i received my check they had already charge me 15% tip , when it was just me my wife and my 2 kids i wouldnt mind paying the tip but when your server is impossible to find is just not riight read your bill before you leave really worst experience ever read more

As a Colombian I thought that Macitas would be a good place to have lunch. I had been at their hammocks location many times with no problems, they were actually always very nice. But today, at this other location near US1, I ventured into ordering a fried fish called Mojarra, which was over $18. I was like wow, for the price in a place like this that should be one of the best dishes. To my surprise and after waiting for almost 30 minutes that wasn't the case. The fish was small and over cooked, so much that was like eaten a burn cracker. I called the manager and she barely let me get a word in, Isabel said that she was the expert in the restaurant business and that they knew how clients liked the fish (small and crunchy), she did not even offer me a coffee or nothing. At the end of my meal I was still hungry and disappointed so I order a cafe con leche and a guava and cheese pastry. The pastry was bigger than the fish and very dry and old. Since I was there with companion I did not want to leave so a ate the worst lunch and service I have ever experienced. At the end she took of 10% of my $18 dish, so that was a big savings of $1.87 cents of my $41 dollars check. read more

Tried this place out for the first time, I got the bistec de caballo(steak and eggs) with fries and rice and beans. Had a cafe con leche which was great until I waited almost an hour for my food. The waitress was clearly inexperienced as she did not ask me if it was my first time nor did she inform me of what was good. The rice and beans were mediocre. The steak was cooked to the proper temperature but I couldn't taste it due to the pounds of tomato based sauce poured over the top! My steak was swimming! My fries were cold, dry and hard and the waitress barely tended to us. Not a good experience at all. As a chef I expected better. read more

I have to say that the food is good. However, the service is so bad, I will never step foot in this establishment again. I gave them a handful of tries, because we live so close and the food is tasty. The wait is long even after we sit down, the waitresses are rude, and I mean almost all! I've been here enough times to give everyone a chance and it's really bad. It seems they are very unhappy with their jobs and this is a direct reflection on the leadership. I venture to say that if leadership doesn't step up this place will eventually lose a lot of customers. I'm one of them. read more

If you're looking for typical Colombian food, go no further than Macitas in Cutler Bay. The breakfast special is the best deal in town consisting of eggs scrambled with ham, house potatoes, a sizable portion of buttered cuban bread right off the press, and a mug of cafe con leche. All for $3.99 and served until 11:30 am daily, even in the weekends! There are usually two lunch specials served M-F until 2:30 pm, which are plenteous and delicious. Off the dinner menu I recommend the grilled chicken breast, the churrasco and the grilled fish with the creamy seafood sauce. Both the chicken soup and the chunky beef soup are outstanding! A meal in themselves! If you get the larger size, you will also get a portion of white rice sprinkled with cilantro. Plus they make their own "aji", a tasty lime based hot sauce. All is all, Macitas is a great neighborhood restaurant. You know it's genuine when you see many Colombians eating there! Don Carlos and his wife are wonderful hosts, as is their daughter Isabel, son Mario and daughter in-law Carolina. Tita, Iris, Dora, Adriana, Eli and the rest of the gang are the best! Best place in town to have breakfast! Can't beat the price, meal+drink=$7 with $3 tip you walk out with the best 10$ meal you can spend. Eggs bacon potatoes and 2 pancakes plus drink. read more

ok, this was a few weeks ago but kept forgetting to verify my email so I could post again? (why after a few years do they now need me to verify?) anyway... the service was slow, the server didn't speak English and I expected and was perfectly happy with both! (even though I don't speak Spanish)... I like South American food and my rule is simple, if all the employees speak good English and the food comes out quickly IT WONT BE GOOD!! Here is was good and the server even got someone to translate because she was worried I wasn't going to like what I ordered (I ordered the grilled brisket, she wanted to make sure I knew it was dry.. which was fine because I cover it in spicy chimichurri...) love this place, might be moving closer to work in a few months and if I do will probably be there often! read more

I had placed an order for over 40 beef empanadas. I asked for an additional hot scauce since they only had given me one. The lady at the counter stated that they are only allowed to give one per order. I asked to speak to the supervisor and the owner came out. The owner proceeded to lecture me about the cost of food and why I as a costumer need to be aware of that. He went on for 10 minutes explaining why Mcdonalds only gave out 1 napkin..completely false. He then told me that he didn't need my business and refused to let me take teh empanadas. Luckly he gave me my $ back after I threatened to call police. This owner obviously has no customer services skills and feels like he needs to treat his customers on a lower level. I NOW REFUSE to go near this establishment. Also on another side note the food is not all that. I had some Obleas that had mold in them. They instisted that the get everything imported. So I guess nothing is fresh. read more

Macitas is one of my go to places to eat it's close to my home and the food is really on point. I do have to say though the service is not the best the lines are horrid it's always packed so it's a little annoying when you just go for croquette and pan de Bono. I have had a couple encounters with this bad service and one major with the so called manager Isabel. She argues with me for almost 20 min on how my order wasn't messed up made me feel embarrassed for even arguing over s silly piece of steak but the point of the matter is she should have made the customer happy even after me telling her how embarrass I was of this she still didn't care to correct the situation . She most likely ordered my steak with the kitchen packed it and took it home to her own house probably robbing the restaurant of food instead of pleasing the very frequent customers. I didn't feel happy at all about this incident. Great food crappy workers sorry macitas. I know the sad part is this review doesn't even matter people are still going to eat here and even possibly I will eat here again very disappointing! read more

I have been a regular patron of Macitas for over 5 years. The food has always been outstanding, service could improve as far as wait time but the servers were always friendly. Last week I took my family for our usual breakfast tradition. I was paying in cash with bills I received from the bank the day before. The waitress came back saying the restaurant refuses to accept my $100 bills because they were the older version. I asked her where was the policy about old bills mind you bills I had received from the bank itself. She called over the manager to only get a poor explanation without any basis. I clearly pointed out that there was no statement whatsoever posted about old bills. What if that was the only money on me to pay. Our bill was over $150 dollars. Was my family expected to wash dishes or get in trouble with the law? It was a complete embarrassment and unnecessary. Due to their poor management decision and lack of customer service I will never set foot in Macitas again and share my story with whomever I meet. What started as a wonderful day with family quickly turned into a disappointing experience. read more
