The first time I ate at MacKenzie River Pizza Co, it was awesome! The food was hot, tasty, and perfect. The second time my husband's pizza was ice cold and hard. The cookie in the dessert he ordered was raw and runny. This is the third time we tried it, because my food has been really good, even though my husband's has not. Tonight my burger was raw on the inside, and I couldn't eat most of it. My daughters burger sliders are hard and dry as a rock. The pears in her salad were super brown, and mushy. I will not be eating here again. I don't expect perfection when we've got a pandemic going on. But when the food is inedible, there's a problem. read more

Mackenzie River Pizza is great. It's always really clean, the service has always been friendly but not all applebee's fake cheerful when I've been there, and everything on the menu is delicious and comes in huge portions. It's the kind of place where you go and can't decide what you want because everything is delicious, and the meals you haven't tried yet all sound like they might be good too. Also, they feature probably the best selection of in-state micro-brews of any place I've been in Montana. The pizza is pretty high class for pizza, but doesn't neglect the classics. So, they have a thai pie with peanut sauce and a vegetarian pizza with one hundred percent meat free tofu pepperoni, but also a regular old big meaty all meat pizza with one hundred pounds of meat. My favorite is the Madison: Bacon, cheddar, and ricotta on their delicious sourdough crust. Yum! read more

I currently live in Denver and have yet to find a pizza joint as good at Gourmet pizza as MacKenzie River Pizza. All of their pizzas are tasty, but it is their Lazy M sandwich that I crave. Its their version of the BLT, but so tasty and right on that man, what I wouldn't give for one now. I haven't had anything there that I haven't liked. The atmosphere is great. Not too uptight but clean and professional. The staff has always been pleasant not too forceful, but casual and conversational. read more

Our waitress was really nice. My husbands pizza was pretty good. My MacKenzie Alfredo was served Luke warm after the waitress had to tell the cooks to add more alfredo . . Ended up giving it to our daughter and she liked it. My daughter didn't mind her chicken strips. The floor around us was sticky. Overall I wasn't super impressed, 2 stars because of our waitress otherwise I would give it one. The place just didn't feel very inviting and seemed to be ran by a bunch of kids. This review is for the billings west end location. I picked up a couple sandwiches to go for supper, the Reuben and the pulled pork Sammy. The Reuben was a nice size sandwich and the bread was grilled crisp and was still crisp after getting it home in the to go box. BUT the pulled pork sammy was ridiculous. First of all I had to lift the bun top up just to make sure there was any meat on it. Then I saw they forgot to include the coleslaw, which to me is pretty important for pulled pork sammies. AND if they did put any BBQ sauce with the meat it had long burned away in whatever pan they had the meat sitting in. I don't usually write reviews but when I pay $9.75 for a sandwich I expect it to at least have everything included that it's supposed to. So do yourself a favor if you get a to go order from here and check the food before you leave the parking lot! read more

This is the best pizza in town. And the service is outstanding. There's this server named Adam who works there who is pretty much a god. He makes sure we always have a good time and is always on top of everything. He is an outstanding human being. I even told my son that Adam is the type of man he should aspire to be when he grows up. Fancy atmosphere but it's still just a chain pizza place. The wait times to get served can be horrible and often the high school wait staff can be very careless and rude. The pizza is not at all traditional but very eclectic, some very interesting and others just plain strange. read more

Very good pizza and the pesto bread sticks were tasty. I have 4 kids 14,12,11 and 2 1/2 and they were ALL happy. We have the (I think this was the name of it)stockman pie (steak, sausage, bacon) the sausage was spicy and added good flavor to the pie. There marinara sauce is seasoned well. The kids had the traditional pepperoni. It was not NY style pizza but that was fine as it tasted wonderful. The sourdough was a nice twist on a classic. The service was very good and attentive. We were seated right away even with a party of 7 and it was Sat. night. read more

This is the closest place to our house with a tv to watch sports. We don't have cable so sometimes we want to watch a game and this has become our go to place. Being mostly a vegetarian there are actually plenty of menu items for me, as long as I'm willing to eat cheese. And the food is pretty good, most of the time. One complaint I have is for the house salad dressing; either it's disgusting or they gave us gravy by accident. I do, however, like the lodge poles and the Caesar salad. Food is good, atmosphere is also good, and we can bring the baby no problem since it's usually kind of loud here anyway. We like this place well enough to be regulars. read more

For lunch today I had the Cajun Chicken Alfredo, but it seems that they messed the order up and I got some other type of chicken Alfredo. There was no Cajun flavor what so ever. I wouldn't go back. Someone recommended this place to us saying they have great nachos. We got there ordered them and they were very dry so we asked our waitress if we could order the jalapeño popper cheese dip (it was an $8 appetizer) and she instantly looked annoyed. It then took TWENTY FIVE minutes for it to come out. After she brought it to us she literally didn't come back. I had to walk up to the fountain to fill up my own water. The other waitress totally noticed she was doing an awful job. The table next to us had to go ask for their check and then again had to go ask for their card back. They were irritated also. The second waitress (who was doing phenomenal with her tables) came up and asked if she could help. We said we needed the bill and some to go boxes. She brought us the boxes and said "McKenzie will be right with you and bring the bill" 10 more minutes go by. McKenzie helped the table next to us and got another tables drink order and then continued to go gossip in the back with the cooks. I walked up to the nice waitress and let her know it had been 10 minutes and she still hadn't come. I expressed my experience and she said "do you want me to get my supervisor" I said that would be fine. We got the check and it was $4 more then it should have been (they over charged us) but I honestly didn't even care at that point because we had been there over and hour and a half for NACHOS and a dip. The supervisor walks up and says "I'm sorry if you had any issues. She's pretty new here and we are trying to work out the kinks" in my opinion if this has been a constant issue and the supervisor is aware of it she should either be better or be gone. I was NOT happy with the supervisor. Usually they would express their apologies and let us know they would talk to the waiter if we had an issue but he just mentioned she was pretty new and that it was an ongoing issue. I left a $3 tip because I didn't want to leave $0 but I did put a frowny face on the bill. I was NOT pleased at all. Won't be back. KUDOS to the one good waitress. She was amazing. Stopped by for a light supper after an early movie. Ordered Huckleberry Salad & Smoked Trout from the summerfare menu. salad was ok, fresh greens, chunks of goat cheese, good dressing, but had to go hunting for the few minuscule huckleberries at the bottom. The trout dish was yuk! Lots of heavy cream cheese melted in the oven with very few (4?) bites of trout you had to really "fish" for served with toast points. In 90 degree weather this would have been so much better cold with spreadable cream cheese & real bites of trout. Disappointed!! Service ok, but staff mgreeting & leaving was not friendly, like they didn't want to be bothered...won't be back for awhile. Draft beers good. read more

My complaint is that as an adult I like to sit in the bar and chat with my husband and watch whatever game they have on tv while we eat. But... the bar is always full of screaming kids. We eat here about 20 times yearly. Used to be more when we lived close by. Usually solid and consistent. Love the gluten free crusts for my daughter. We like the thinner crispy crusts with unique flavors like the bistro with pear, prosciutto, blue cheese. Or some pesto options. And they've got some nice spicier options like branding iron or hot Hawaiian. But tonight at 7:58 pm, we didn't get a chance to order. After being seated, we waited 15-20 minutes without somebody even asking us for a drink order. And we were conspicuously seated in a visible high traffic area in view of everyone. 3 staff were rolling silverware up front while screwing around with their cell phones. The two male waiters running the floor seemed oblivious, I am guessing that one of them was the manager on duty. As we were leaving, I told him that we were leaving because we hadn't even been talked to yet. He just said sorry and turned to the other waiter to point toward where we were sitting while the three of us left. No one tried to find out if they could repair the situation. They just argued while we left. I didn't want to see how long and crappy the process would be when it was that long to just get seen. read more

If I was rating the food alone I'd give 4 stars but it's the service at this specific Mackenzie river location that makes me reconsider coming back. We always order the same pizza - The BLT which doesn't have much cooked items on it at all... but the pizza itself usually takes 30+ min I can't imagine how long a pizza with meat on top would take. Once they finally bring us the pizza it's almost like the waiter/waitress disappears for another 30min and we sit patiently waiting for them to come by to either fill our drinks or to bring the check. So now we're there 1hour (just two of us and one pizza) and we've received our check but it always seems that the waiter/waitress takes our card to pay the bill and it takes them another 20 min to bring it back for us to sign. It's just a lot of waiting around for a pizza. I would recommend the food but I think the service leaves a lot to be desired. read more

Food was good. Service was SUPER slow. It took 5 minutes of us standing alone at the door to get seated, and another 10 to get a drink order in. They quite obviously have highschoolers working, and they haven't been trained well. The server sloshed my husband's beer all over the table, and then disappeared for so long that we had to get up and find our own napkins. All this with only six table filled in the whole place. Their sourdough pizza crust is really good, but most of the toppings/sauces were on the bland side. Overall not too bad, but don't expect good service. read more

I'll admit that I haven't been here in a few years. I think they've made some positive changes to the quality of their pizza crust. To me it seemed like they used to make a crust that was more sourdough and buttermilk flavored now it seems different and I'm not sure if I can put my finger on it. Good though and I'm now a happy to say this is probably the best pizza in town. The only thing that would make it better is if it was wood fired or something. $15.50 for a large is great price. so we went in there and it took them a while to get us seated...and it was completely empty. they messed up our order and stood behind the counter in the kitchen talking. the phone rang multiple times and they messed around until it stopped. they took a "break" and left completely. all of this happened while we were still waiting for our order. i don't think that's very good service. they're adults they should act like it. read more

I ordered the Thai salad...it was good, especially the dressing, and big enough for a meal. The chicken was good. My only quibble is that they advertise it as having "greens", which leads you to believe you're going to get a mix, when in fact it's just lettuce. 12/4/2011 - Just left an hour ago. Good iced tea, good draft beer and actually a good waitress as well. BAD - cold tomato basil soup, pizza crust hard and dry, penne pasta was cold and dry also. Won't be back I'll eat a Papa Murphys pizza at home for 1/4 the price. read more
