This place had great potential. Chad was absolutely the worst waiter I have encountered for a long time. Not sure if he has a meth problem or what. Even his colleagues seemed over him. We never had a manger come and check on us, despite other servers and other patrons speaking up on our behalf. Our food took well over an hour and half of it was wrong. There could have been a beautiful view of the water but it's blocked by a giant party tent owned by the restaurant. Heads up: they charge you 3% extra if you're not paying cash. The food was fine. As regular as it comes. I am sure there are plenty of other places where you can get better service, better view and better food- without a surcharge for using your credit card. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years. We always seem to leave happy BUT not blown away by our experience. First -- lets talk about the wait. It's insane - we were told 30-40 minutes. Now normally that doesn't bother me. However, it was the 11 tables available, clean and not reserved - that we had to stare at while waiting. After our 30 minutes were up guess where we and the other families waiting were seated?? In those 11 tables that were empty the whole time we waited. Once we were seated we were greeted promptly and with a smile. The drinks came out quick BUT super weak. "Come on - we're on vacation - get me buzzed and I spend more money." This review is not about the food but more on the service we received. As visitors we decided to support local restaurants in the area especially during this this pandemic. As a Muslim women with a head covering I felt very upset when I noticed how my table was being ignored while people that came after my family were served. I had to go up to a group of waiters and ask them to tend to our table and let them know that no one even came to ask for water. Ate here last night, and was sorely disappointed. We wanted to sit outside, but the hostess said there was nothing. When I went to the salad bar a few minutes later, there were several tables outside. Now for the food. Salad Bar was just average. Lots of stuff, but didn't appear very fresh. My wife had the Maple-Plank Salmon, which she enjoyed. I had the Whitefish Rockefeller, which appeared to have been cooked quite some time before it was served to me. When the sauce has a film coming on it, and the fish is dried, you know it was not freshly cooked. The sauce and the fish were both bland. then our server, Mike disappeared. We waited and waited for him to come with our check, but it seemed he was more interested in talking to other employees than to come see if we needed anything. He also walked past our table several times without stopping at our even though I made sure he knew we were finished (napkin on my plate, pushed back, hands folded, etc.). This was recommended by our hotel as a good place for whitefish. They are on the water with a heated deck (near the lighthouse). We started with the whitefish pate which is mainly whitefish in cream cheese. My husband had the planked whitefish with Duchess potatoes and I had the whitefish fish boil. We stopped in here on a Sunday night and are so glad we did. The white fish was good, as was the shrimp steamers. Our waiter, unfortunately forgot his name, made the whole experience. He was prompt, funny and welcoming. If we are back in St. Ignace, we will be back. They have an enjoyable back patio, that was covered while we were there, because it was raining, but was still a fun atmosphere. I would definitely recommend stopping here. Poor service. I went in after about 40 minutes to ask how long and saw the hostess sitting groups who came after us. After tell her this, she kept sitting people who came after us. She put us in a very warm room at a corner table near a family with kids that were fighting. We got up and walked out . No idea if the food is good or not. I can't make this up. Host told us 20 minutes on our wait time and gave us a pager. After 35 minutes we went in and asked a very nice lady where we were. Apparently, he forgot to write us down. We waited another 10 minutes and went inside and she finally sat us. We mentioned to the young man that he forgot to write us down, and he threw a tantrum. We watched him kick the kitchen door, say "I'm done," and storm out the back door. The food was terrible. Ambiance: Pretty old-timey family restaurant. The servers seem like people from church, very friendly but maybe not the best at waitressing. We got here late at night so the place was fairly empty. Despite that, our food took maybe 45 minutes to arrive which was a little painful, we are guessing maybe the pastie we ordered took that long to bake? Food: The Reuben was pretty tasty in a standard way, greasy swirl rye bread with a fair amount of corned beef and sauerkraut. The thousand island dressing came on the side which let me adjust how much I wanted with each bite. The fries were unremarkable. My wife's pastie was huge, the size of a half pie almost and loaded with moist beef, onions, and carrots. It came with brown gravy which was a weird but not unwelcomed condiment. The crust was also a little strange in that it almost had a pretzel like texture which is also untraditional. Overall the place was decent, nothing special but hearty and good like many other family restaurants. This is a barely 3 stars. It was Friday night, I'm a tourist looking for a fish fry. Couldn't find one so we settled here. When you go in there's a sign that says wait to be seated but it doesn't tell you where. We and another couple stood right in front of the door while employees passed us, not one saying "hello," or "be right back." The other couple left after being ignored for awhile. I flagged someone down and he told me there was a party in front of us in the waiting area. There's a waiting area? Yep! Once we got to the table the service improved and I was able to order fish. I got the perch with a baked potato and baked beans. DON'T ORDER THE BAKED BEANS!! They are right out of the can and no one took the time to even dress them up a bit. Plus they served them in a plastic portion cup. Really? Were all the ceramic ramekins dirty? Who serves hot beans in a thin plastic cup?! Also, the baked potato was WAY over baked and barely at an eatable temp. The fish was served with hush puppies. SAY WHAT?! My family hails from Mississippi y'all and I love a good hush puppy, but in the UP of Michigan? Did I make a wrong turn? They were too small and over cooked. I didn't even try to eat them. However the fish was delicious! Too bad the rest of it sucked. I was hoping for a regional dessert. Apple or cherry pie, a fruit crumble maybe, but the only pie they had was key lime. I guess I was in Florida and didn't know it. It said it was homemade but I was worried it might be as homemade as the beans (how hard is it to make a pot of beans? not very). There was a baked apple dessert but the photo showed mostly whipped cream. I decided against the whipped cream. It's up to you. We are coming back to the UP in December but will give this restaurant a skip. I left pretty disappointed. The decor is a mish-mash. Took over 20 minutes to receive our drinks - Pepsi, Shirley Temple, and a draft beer, but in the meantime, he delivered out appetizer. Not so good when you're thirsty. Another 15 minutes or so, he brings my niece's Reuben sandwich, my wife's steamed shrimp, and a charred olive burger. I had already told Brad that if my burger was charred, it was going back, and it did. He then asks if I want another one. Fifteen minutes later, he brings one a little less charred. Back it goes. Fast service. We were seated on the patio with a terrific view within 5 minutes of arriving. Our order was taken quickly and the meal arrived before we knew it. The whitefish was fresh and done perfectly. The walleye fingers were fine but nothing special but I wouldn't complain. They are what they are and you know it when you order them. We were seated by a young kid who seated in a section where apparently the waitress had already left for the day sat for about 5 minutes before we finally had to ask for our waitress waited a few more minutes before we had a waitress come over and apologized, took our order and even offered us all the salad bar for the price of one instead of five. She was the only redeeming quality about this restaurant, well that and the salad bar, which was pretty good. Burger overdone, sirloin steak gray color and mushrooms had a weird taste. Patty Melt extremely dry. Wet burrito more like dry burrito. All French fries were over done as well. When we were walking out they literally had a cord for a fan that was drying the bathroom that must have overflowed, laying over the walk way leading to the entrance/exit, a lawsuit waiting to happen. Been here several times. For the money, the steak was poor quality, we had the smallest baked potato on the planet. Couldn't get a piece of bread to have with dinner and the server attempted to charge us for drink refills. Asked to speak to the manager before we left, and when the host (who was trying to be helpful) informed her she had a customer who wanted to speak to her, her reply was "I'm kinda busy." She stayed behind the bar, doing other stuff, clearly having no intention of helping. We didn't want anything for free. Just wanted to share the experience. Won't be back. we noticed so many customers we not wearing masks walking into the restaurant and no one seemed to care as well as no one paying attention to social distancing as well. Our biggest complaint came after we were finally seated after we were told it was a 20 minute wait, mind you this was off season and sunday afternoon. We were seated and no one came to wait on us. NO ONE. We sat there for over 20-25 minutes watching plenty of wait staff wandering around waiting on everyone else except us. Finally a waitress comes up to us and tell us that our table does not have a wait staff person assigned to us and who knows when we will be waited on. My husband then tells her to take our order instead. I think she was shocked and she did. She didn't seem happy about it because she dumped off our drinks and food and disappeared until it was time to get paid. The fish tacos were ok, My husbands fries were cold and no ketchup was offered or refills on beverages. The bartender was not wearing his mask and patrons were running around with out theirs. Jammin Burger is A+, the boneless tenders taste and felt fake. Salad bar is shouldn't be considered a "bar" . A friend of mine watched an employee drop food on the floor and pick it back up and proceed to deliver it to a table...Giving them the 1 star because it's the lowest rating a place can get but the Jammin Burger is phenomenal..if they say it comes with bleu cheese..it doesn't. The food here is not good. No nice way to say it. I think all of the food is frozen and then microwaved. I had the meatloaf and the plate was hot when I got it but the meatloaf was cold. I had to send it back. I should probably give it one star but the view is nice, people are friendly and the outside temperature is really pleasant for mid-July. We went to this place while on vacation. On the positive side, it has a nice view and is centrally located in St. Ignace. The food was mediocre. I got a platter with fried shrimp, fried clams, and fried fish. All 3 were overly cooked (clams were almost burned). The inside of the fried fish was mushy. The mac and cheese was pretty good. It was around $105 for 4 of us to eat there. We won't be back to this restaurant. read more
