Here's the pro: 1. Quiet 2. Pleasant staff (caveat below) 3. That's all. Here are the cons: 1. Small spaces little to no privacy sites 2. 25 miles from park. That's kinda far for us (my opinion) There are many parks more near and in the park. 3. Over priced for what you get. 4. One bathroom and shower for park. Expect to wait if you need to use it. 5. Staff caveat : Communication failures occurred by park staff regarding applying military discount. The park literature offers military discount. However, when asked about this upon check in the staff (on two separate occasions) could not provide me an accurate answer. And not able to apply any discount for my stay. Customer beware to ask in advance for military discounts. The fine print does not actually offer a 10% discount. The staff did not know the policy and gave me inaccurate information and attitude when asked about this. This is not a good look. And more importantly disrespectful to a veteran. 6. Beware to check and double check credit card charges to be sure you are accurately charged for your stay. read more

Accidentally made the reservation thinking it was in Billings Mt. When I noticed the mistake I contacted them. They refused to refund me othre than 1/3 of the total amount paid. They are very happy to take money but unhappy to refund regardless of the circumstances. While I understand it is in their agreement I also understand that they are the type to put money over people. I will never stay at a place run by this type of owner that puts people last. read more

This review is for the raft & Kayak rentals! Payton and the staff was very helpful and friendly. They took their time explaining how things work and even gave info of some local places to check out. We had to reschedule our rental a few time and they were very accommodating. I recommend renting from them, just make sure you take your cooler, lots of sunblock and get ready to paddle but take it all in, it's beautiful! We rented kayaks & rafts, good times! read more

Will and I were literally heading toward the creek without any paddles. Our wives were miles ahead of us, driving the car with the two canoes on top. We were following with lots of gear for our day to float fish "The Ranch", well known amongst fly fishers as nirvana. Very quietly, but with a physical startling, Will said, "I forgot to load the paddles." And facing a one-hour return to the cabin, plus another hour to get back to where we were, we realized that we were screwed. But not to worry. We would stop at a couple of rental places and rent paddles. Hmmmmm... One after another was either closed or would not rent paddles until we hit Mack"s. They rent rooms, sell and rent equipment, provide guiding services and just about what anyone would need for their fly fishing entravaganzas or whatever they might be doing in this pristine, yet very rural area of Idaho. Undaunted, but feeling ever more stupid, we approached the young lady behind the counter and she replied to our inquiry that they did not rent paddles. We pleaded, offered credit cards and ID as we laid out how stupid we were in not bringing paddles for a canoe trip. Madison, wonderful woman that she is, did allow us to rent paddles and, oh yes...life jackets, also, accepting a credit card payment and my Montana driver license. We were ecstatic and GREATLY RELIEVED and regretted that we could not climb or leap over the counter to enthusiastically hug Madison for her act of charity. We said that we would be returning them around 9pm and she told us that was fine, someone would be there. Well, it turned out that no one was there, so Will and I simply got into the sheds and replaced the paddles and life jackets and left. No contact from Madison, who took great risk to rent to we stupid canoe/fisher guys, but we honored her risk-taking and will forever be customers of Mack's in the future. We were guests of other family members, so I can't comment on price or the reservation process. We stayed in one of the riverfront "condo" rooms and, unfortunately, it wasn't very pleasant. The building is from the 1940s, and it shows! Our room was very dated and in need of some significant repairs. The floor in the bedroom not level, sinking down at least an inch as it approached the bathroom. Seems that it has been rotting as the result of water from some overflow? The biggest maintenance problem, though, was the buzzing insect that must have been trapped somewhere inside the wall. Kept some of us up during the nights we were there. The parking lot is just dirt. The stairs up to our second-floor room were very poorly maintained and I felt unsafe on them. I was clicking through their Web site tonight trying to find the number of the condo room we stayed in so I could post it here, but none of the room photos match the room we stayed in. Our bathroom did NOT look like any of those nice condo pictures there. Not even close. It was cold while we were there (even though it was June), so we enjoyed the warmth of the wood stove. DO NOT STAY HERE THEY HAVE A BEDBUG INFESTATION!! This was confirmed by maintenance and when I sent an email demanding my money back I received NO RESPONSE. Also, they say their water was tested last month and is clean (despite e-coli warnings in every room) and my whole family who stayed here with me attending a wedding got sick. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Stayed at the River Front Condos so I can't comment on the other accommodations. The condos are old and show it. The room had a few visitors (big creepy bugs). The beds were comfortable but the bedding dated the place. The bath was old and in need of remodeling. There was packing tape around the shower head to keep it from leaking. Molding was off the walls and bathtub. With that said, I have to remember this is a rustic place so you can't expect a fancy resort. Staff were very friendly and wanted to please. I would stay again but I would bring the bug spray. Also, riverfront condos should take on another name. Condos they are not. There were also a couple places to eat. We ate at the pizza parlor attached to the place. Not bad at all. read more

Rented a raft from Mack's, which was conveniently located 15 feet from our hotel SpringHill Suites. The price was more than I wanted to pay, even with 10% discount by showing hotel key, but when in Rome. I looked up other places, but their websites didn't answer all of my questions, and I wasn't in the mood to spend my vacation making phone calls and inquiring, so I just went with Mack's. Included in the price was a shuttle that drove us about 4 miles where our raft and we were dropped off. From there it was about 3 hours of travel down the river and back to Mack's. It was nice. We did more "work" than we had expected, only because we didn't want to get stuck in the brush or do continuous and slow 360's lol. Wish I would have put on sunscreen. read more

I called ahead on our way back to our rental home from Yellowstone Park. We were about 10 minutes out, and when we arrived, had to wait an additional 35 minutes to receive our pizza. There were three young ladies working the kitchen and ice cream counter. One was taking orders, one was making the pizzas, and one was taking food to the guest rooms. We were told there was an oven not working with was why it was taking so long. Once we received the pizza and were able to go back home to enjoy it, I thought it was good. I've had better, I've had worse. When I want pizza, I like getting mine from a pizza parlor / restaurant. It appears that the ice cream is a bit hit here at Mack's, but for me, the pizza was just "okay". read more

Stayed for a night after our Yellowstone trip. Place was 25 mins away from Yellowstone. It was easy to find Mack's Inn (right on highway). Front desk guys were friendly and check in was super quick. Cabin has rustic look but have all the required amenities like heater, freeze, microwave etc. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who does not expect Hilton/Hyatt in woods. read more

Wonderful kayaking trips out of Mack's inn! The river is beautiful and if you go in the morning there aren't a lot of other people on the river. The staff are nice and helpful. They bus you upstream a few miles and you end on the shore at Mack's inn. If you are ever in island park then give it a go! read more

We rented kayaks and a raft and had them shuttle us up Big Springs. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Gear worked great and the ice cream at the end was tasty! Prices are a little high for the kayak plus shuttle service but we really enjoyed it. We saw 5 moose and a beaver! Can't beat that! read more

We stayed here after a three day trip in Yellowstone. We did stay in the condo rooms by the river. You can't beat the view and fishing off the docks was fun for the kids. We rented paddle boats and just had a fun time relaxing after a whirlwind trip camping in a different campground each night in Yellowstone. The best thing is that this resort isn't far from Yellowstone. While the "condo" wasn't exactly what any of us expected, it was a relief from the freezing cold camping nights with a great heater and comfortable beds. The people were very nice and the ice cream parlor on site was convenient and a treat. If you are more concerned with outside looks, please stay at one of the other lodges/resorts nearby and pay triple or more. The only complaint was that I needed to adjust our dates for arrival and getting someone to call me back was difficult since they hadn't set up office hours yet, I guess. read more

Let's start with the good: Great location for exploring the surrounding areas, including Yellowstone, one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in, and a beautiful view of the river. The riverfront rooms are perfect for the area. It's a little rustic, but it makes sense when you take in where you are. Now for the downside: The staff is nonexistent and impossible to get a hold of. Well Mack's Inn has really changed. Firstly, they are in a major demo project taking down many buildings The reason we went there today was to rent a raft. Something we've done every summer for over 20 years. Went to the office to rent a raft, same kind we get a couple times each summer, and was SHOCKED at the price. For a raft that just last year rented for $60-$70 including the shuttle, THE PRICE TODAY------ $169!!!!!! I mean really a price gouge of over 100%???? We live nearby by and bring family and friends every summer for a nice float. Usually at mid day you might have to wait for a raft. Not today MORE THAN HALF OF ALL THE WATER CRAFT WAS DRY AND ON THE GROUND. Dear Owners: let that sink in ! I'm thinking new owners...or something. RIP OFF Won't be back anymore read more

Great place to rent a kayak and take a ride down the river. They take you a few miles upstream and drop you off. The ride down is spectacular. On the way we saw otters and a moose with a calf, such an unforgettable experience. read more

Prices very reasonable. GET THERE EARLY. I can't stress that enough. Went on a Tuesday arrived 40 min before they opened and we were 3rd in line. Took out 2 sit on Kayaks @ $30 a piece. It took us about 2hrs to get from the launch site back to the beginning. With mild paddling and lots of floating/drifting. We saw moose!!! Went out a 2nd time that Thursday and we had a group of 5 instead of 2 and got there about 40 min before they opened again and should have been the 3rd in line however people don't always read directions and started lining up the wrong way so we ended up about 5th in line. Which then put us on the 2nd truckload out adding well over an hour to our wait time (they have to load up all the gear onto the trailer drive to the launch site - 10 min away(?) - unload everyone there, drive back due that again)! We rented the large float raft for $80 and it was an absolute blast as well. Again saw moose. The water towards the beginning of the launch site is very shallow so we need to get out both days and walk the raft/kayak to deeper water because it dragged the bottom and stopped. The wait is long. The staff is all young, nice but not necessarily working at the speed/efficiency as everyone might want - relax it is a day on a beautiful river - go with the flow! Well worth every penny and then some! Get there at 9 on a weekday if you want to leave by 1030. They fill up very very fast. read more

They will happily rent you a canoe, boat or raft and take you up to the railroad bridge to float down Henry's fork. What's that? Thunderstorms and a tornado watch forecast? Oh don't worry about it. Buyer beware, they'll dump you upriver anytime you pay for it. read more

Came here to rent a few rafts and canoes. What was a seemingly fun idea to go down the river turned into a miserable experience WAITING. We sat for three hours for the shuttles to pick us up. We eventually gave up after wasting hours of or lives. This rental service is the most inefficient operation. They are losing money and customers. Highly disappointed. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Very disappointed. Although their website indicates open 7 days per week weather permitting- they are not. We drove about 2 hours on a Monday expecting to spend a beautiful day floating the Henrys Fork. What we found was a song that said closed today. We stopped in the office to inquire and were told they were closed because the college students were going back to school but to come back the next day. REALLY. I would suggest updating their website to suggest calling ahead towards the end of the season to verify they are open. Cabin 47 needs some serious tlc. The yard has holes everywhere and there were two windows without curtains, one including the restroom window. There are two beds and a pull out that each have mattresses where you can feel every spring in the bed. The couch looks so dusty and old I was scared to sit on it. This place has a lot of potential, but really needs some work. Blinds for the windows would be great too. read more

The only reason for two stars was the young man who took my family up to the drop off point was very intelligent and told us a lot about the area and the place. He was actually an optometrist from Florida working for the fun of it in the summer. The floating of the river is awesome it's gorgeous and amazing. However the fact the place takes no reservations and is first come first serve makes no sense to me. The most disorganized and convoluted way of running things I've ever seen. There may be a reason, I just couldn't figure it out the two hours I waited to get taken up the river to float back down. read more

Our group of 8 took two crawdad (floating boat) on the float trip. The total staff involvement includes transport to the drop point - that's it. They didn't even assist with life jackets - just pointed to a pile and said "find some that fit". The water was low - not their fault - but the boats got stuck on the bottoms and someone has to get out to move them along. At the end, my husband stepped out onto the dock, and it gave way from the rotted wood. He dropped to his thigh through the broken plank, and shouts for help got nothing - no one! Finally one of the others in our group could get out and to him and help get him loose...still no staffers or anyone around from Mack's Inn. His entire thigh muscle is torn and doc says it will be many weeks before the burning and pain is gone. Very bad experience overall...not worth the price. read more

Went to rent a raft and found out they charge around $100 for the raft, and $50 to transport you and the raft to the river. What a friggen ripoff. First of all, we reserved 2 rafts at 10am on a Sunday. I called early Sunday morning to change the time of reservation but they weren't open yet so I left a message. They never called us back so we went down there and they said they couldn't change the time as there were a lot of people there to get rafts.. so in a business that runs off of walk ins and reservations they don't think to listen to messages at all before people start arriving? Amateurs. Secondly, the people working are all arrogant 18 year old douche bags. They are not accommodating, they don't speak to you, and everything is a chore for them. Thirdly, the "transport" is a shitty old van that has no a/c, engine light is on, uncomfortable, and trashy. Great way to waste $50 for the shuttle. And lastly, the idiots that drove us didn't speak a word to us, basically just tossed the raft in and didn't give us any instruction, no direction on where to end the float, or what to do.. so we just brought the raft to the bank near the hotel and left it. The employees are incompetent children, and the equipment is as mediocre as it gets for a premium price. I'd advise you to go elsewhere before dropping even $1 here. read more

We did the tandem kayak float trip on the Snake River and it was fantastic - for only $40!! However, being our first time, we learned alot. We did this on the July 4th weekend, so it was packed. We arrived at 10am but didn't get on the water till noon. They load trailers with the requested watercraft (ie raft, canoe, kayak, paddleboard) then load the corresponding people into the van, drive 5 miles up to the boat launch and unload everyone, get them on the water, return to Mack's Inn and start the process over again. That all takes a while. The river was also very crowded with other floaters, so they were about the only wildlife we saw. Be sure to bring plenty of food and drinks, sunscreen, bug spray and a couple of towels as well! read more

We stayed at Mack's for our trip to Yellowstone. We arrived late but our keys were waiting for us in a box at the office. We had a little trouble finding our room, #72, but finally did. It is a rustic little room with a living area, a table for dining, a small kitchen, a small bathroom and a bedroom. It was quite adequate for our needs. The beds were very comfortable. The place in the bedroom to hang clothes had no hangers so we just hung our next day clothes on the rod. The one excellent point about it was it was very well insulated. We were always at a comfortable temperature. The first two days were warm and the last day it was very cold but inside was always just right. If you want a cute rustic place, this is it. If you are looking for a 4 star hotel, keep moving. read more

The rental process for Mack's Inn is frustrating and downright terrible and is deserving of a complete overhaul. I have never in my life seen such a slip shot operation as what I witnessed this weekend. The wait times are horrible if you should be so unlucky not to have any choices of boats, rafts, or kayaks when you're ready to pay. Expect to wait up to 3 hours in a sun beaten hot corner or you lose your spot. And then once you get choices to pick from after that 2-3 hours wait then you have to wait again for them to load them on a trailer! That's another 45 minutes! From arrival to launch at Big Springs I was involved with the rental process for a total of 3 1/2 hours! This is crazy! And if you have kids with you waiting...well that's a whole other challenge and I pity you. This business can do so much better if they just took the care and thought to run it properly. The wait could be so much better to deal with if tables with umbrellas were offered. Also, how about some water with ice and coloring books for the kids along with some music. Good heavens make this experience more enjoyable instead of so medieval. And what about giving out tickets with numbers on them so everyone knows where they are at in the pecking order of things. Honestly this place needs serious help and everyone else there was complaining as well. The workers were another thing. They spent more time walking around aimlessly then actually working. There was no organization at all with the loading of boats. They spent more time eating pizzas than anything else. If you choose this rental outfit I wish you the best of luck. read more

We stayed at cabin#56 for 5 nights, due to no cancellation policy, we kept the cabin for the entire trip of Yellowstone, which almost made me sick. Cabin #56 was in low maintenance, spider web by corners, many nails pop up by the roof of loft, and thick dust everywhere. The house keeping basically only collected trash and put new towels upon request, but they did not collect used towels back, which end up the tiny bathroom pile up with all wet, used towels on floor. We live in Island Park, so we decided to float the river on a weekday. We didn't have to wait long to pay the $80.00 for a raft. It all went down hill from there. The garbage can was overflowing, with employees sitting in the hut playing on their phones. The loading of 3 rafts, a boat and 2 kayaks was like something out of a 3 stooges movie. It isn't easy loading boats while eating pizza. That process took 45 minutes. The bus was filthy. Then upon arrival of the dock, there was only 1 guy to unload. People were unloading thier own. It is difficult to get good help here, but by the appearance of all Macks Inn facilities, they could do alot to make these experiences more enjoyable. Macks inn is a wonderful historical place. It could be amazing. There is another huge problem! A large part if thier old dock was broken off. It has floated down the river to the top of Coffee Pot Rapids. This is terribly irresponsible of the Macks Inn management not to have it removed. It is an eyesore and disrupts the natural flow of the river. They are making tons of money! Please fix it up! The cabins, laundromat, and grounds need some love put into them. That said, the river is beautiful, calming, and wonderful!! read more

Before we booked out room with the resort, we called ahead and asked if we could bring our dog, they said yes. We asked if we need to do anything special, they said no, we can just book online. On the second day of being there, the manager said that we have an undisclosed pet and that we will be charged $150. We explained that we did disclose and were told we did not need to do anything special. He said the fee was not for cleaning, but to make an example to the other customers. He admitted that it's a daily issue they have, between 11-13 customers, but that they won't change their disclosure policy because it generates revenue keeping it the way it is, and while he disagrees, his job is to make the owner as much money as possible. The resort room lock did not work, the floor was rotter and beginning to cave in, mold on the bath room ceiling, and the doors to the room would not close because they were out of square. Unfit and unsafe for anyone to stay in. read more
