A couple years ago I visited the Apple Store in Northbrook, IL and I had a 2007 (old iMac) but someone from the Genius Bar referred me to see Brian Sugarman instead. Only because it was an old iMac so they could not help me with it. I am so glad MACnician exists. If it was not for Brian, I am pretty sure I would have given up on my iMac (and future purchases). I had a problem downloading Microsoft 365 in which caused a huge blow out but Brian fixed it! He also fixed some other issues and even downloaded the program for me. Extremely smart and very patient! What an awesome business. My iMac had begun to really slow down, but I didn't want to get a new computer so I decided to put in a SSD instead. After watching a video about what I needed to do, I chose to let someone else do it for me. I called Brian to make sure he does that kind of thing and he suggested where to buy the drive and the other parts I would need. The drive showed up in two days, OWC needs some props for that too. I called Brian this morning to see if I could drop the computer off and he said sure. He told me he would give me a call in a day or so when he had it finished, which I thought was great. I had time to get the kids and I some food at a drive through and head home. We were still eating when Brian said he was done with the iMac! So back to Highland Park we went to pick it up. Brian is a genius with Macbooks. I had three problems with my laptop and all three times he fixed them. You can just walk in and it'll be quick and cheap. I had a browser warning popping up on my screen constantly twice and he fixed them quickly. Another problem was when my iTunes was automatically playing songs. He actually did not see the issue happen, but he fixed it and it is no longer happening. Highly recommend Brian for repairs. He's the best guy you'll find. read more

Repair or Replace? My MacBook Pro was near a glass of spilled water. Although no water got on the keyboard, the PC shut off. I learned there are vents on the bottom... Apple wanted $755 to diagnose and repair. It would also take several days. After checking Yelp reviews for MAC repair specialists, I chose Brian. Other places charged a diagnostic fee of $79-99 and would take several days. Brian did the diagnosis while I watched. He showed me the damaged board. Repair was impractical. He told me about the refurbish and education discount options through Apple. Doesn't take much to qualify for ed. discount - have kids in school. Picking up my new computer from Apple, but will use Brian to save my hard drive files. His experience as a former Apple employee and Mac repair specialist were apparent. read more

Such a fantastic place! I contacted Macnician because my iPhone was not working at all! I couldn't even restore it with iTunes. Allthough Macnician was a little out of my way, the trip was totally worth it. Brian pretty much did surgery to my phone and made it as good as new. He even fixed it right on the spot. He went the extra mile--and I am so grateful! The price was better than EVERY other place I contacted and he was the only person that was actually Apple Certified to do repairs. Went with my mom to get her cracked iPhone screen replaced. Once we got back she realized that it looks foggy, dim, and discolored. The guy's response was "sometimes they're just like that" and refused to replace it. Went to the Apple Store and they told us it's clearly a bad screen. Went back this dude with proof from Apple and he still refused to replace... even with written proof from Apple that the screen is not working properly. Luckily Apple was willing to replace it for her. But this guy is pretty terrible. read more

I brought in a MacBook Pro that wouldn't turn on, thanks to a liquid container exploding in my carry on, and they disassembled the computer and cleaned the components. I came back a few hours later and it was fully functional again. I make my livelihood from my computer. Faced with the grey screen I turned to Macnician for help. Upon arrival Brian threw the MacBook Pro on the bench and identified the bad hard drive. My several year old mac died recently and I was not sure where to take. I used my trusty yelp resource and found MACnician. The problem was identified in miinutes ( dead hard drive) got the estimate and said go. Several minutes later I deceided since it was open why not add some more RAM. Last Wed my computer stopped working. I thought it was because I tried to upload to OS Sierra, but it turned out that my hard drive was dying. I was, of course, frantic, and I ran it up to Macnician (on Yom Kippur!) and Ryan calmed me down and told me how he was going to fix it. I was out the door in 10 minutes. The next day I picked it up, new hard drive, my data restored, and OS Sierra installed. The price was reasonable, especially considering how quickly he fixed my problem. This place is fantastic, I have never had a good experience getting my MacBook fixed but as they say there is always a first for everything. My laptop's hard drive cable broke and I took it here and got it fixed in about 15 min, and then he proceeded to delete things that were showing down my computer on top of the fact that he gave me a small discount in order to make sure I backed up my computer. Here's one on one care, concern and careful explanation of the complications created by the home computer age. Spent an hour and a half with me, cleaned away some malware that was slowing my computer down, reorganized some files to make it run faster and diagnosed an incompatibility between my computer and monitor. Grand total for these services? $25. None of the hurried, sometimes incomprehensible and ultimately unhelpful responses from the Apple store. He was very thorough by going beyond the standard diagnostics test that Apple does in diagnosing the issue with my computer. He opened up the machine, and had it fixed in no time . I have had coworkers rave about MACnician's service before, so I brought my computer in on a Saturday after work. I had spent two hours running through different prompts I found online, trying to get rid of malware I had accidentally downloaded onto my computer from the day before. Even though I called ahead of time, they offered walk-in service, no appointment needed. The service team at MACnician was available to help me right away and easily removed the malware and reset Google Chrome for me. You can tell they really know what they are doing.
