Steve is amazing. Took our old iMac to Best Buy and they wouldn't even look at it because it's a 2009. I found Steve via Yelp and stopped in with it last week. He said "Let me guess, the hard drive? I have three others with the same problem." And he replaced the hard drive and transferred all of our info over so it's better than ever. It took 4 days and I could not be happier. Don't call him. You might have been lucky to get a good service. I was not the one. Out of five main and three minor problems, suposedly only one main problem was fixed for a high charge. I would not recommend this service at all. The repair shop looks more like totally disorganized warehouse! You have to talk to the guy from the front door because you could not navigate inside the shop. So don't visit the shop on a rainy day. And forget about getting your phone call answered! read more

Hello, I left my hard drive at Steve's repair shop almost a year ago. Due to a new job, I am overseas and will not be coming back for sometime. Can any one please assist me with contacting Steve? I have tried over and over again via the phone and email. Apparently he told me he does not answer his emails or phone calls, so last year I rented a car before my move and he said he would be happy to assist. Steve is good people. Steve has always been more than competent and patient with me. Steve has always been priced very kindly in this free market economy. I find it easy to infer calm reassurance because of Steve's honest competence and patience. Steve is like a wizard from the stories. The journey to the shop is clunky and obscure because of North Bay and Caltrans goofy urban planning logic. I think it is easy to miss the route to Steve's shop if you're not paying attention or if your GPS has taken to a tangential and novel method of frivolity. Steve is a natural at presenting as kind and patient while listening to your Mac woes. Like many wizards, his shop looks like Sanford and Son's set design but it's as if the set designer's cyber-punk cousin had a labyrinth glitter party with a Chuck Jones' Tasmanian devil that employed Fraggle Rock's Doozer's production methodology. The result is that there is a precarious maze of on/off technology that customers may infer is opaque to pass through, to apprehend Steve, however, he graciously comes to you. The best way to describe the services and products Steve provides is they are priced and provided in a kindly, patient way with as much transparency as he can without adding ideas that lead to certainty of expectations about the facts as he may understand them at the time. I think Steve is lucky because he gets to do what he enjoys, helping people everyday when they are in a moments of Mac drama which can be a critical moment in someone's month or year. I think it is not easy to do what he does and excel at the soft skills that he exhibits at the same time while getting interrupted by a consistent stream of other customers. In my experience it has been easier to contact him in person than using the phone or through email. However, if I am patient I may succeed in those not-in-person ways eventually. read more

Steve Beale of MacRepair, is the best. His shop may look like a garage sale, but Steve is excellent and modestly priced to repair any Mac. He is not certified for AppleCare, but is the best and least expensive if your Mac is out of warranty... and, when you need it he can be very quick. I rely on him for physical repairs (I am a Apple Consultant who does on-site system tweaks, networks and software problem solving) and often send my clients to him when they need a quick job or when their Mac is out of warranty. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE-DON'T GO THERE! He NEVER returns a phone call and you don't get what you pay for. After bringing a brand NEW laptop to Steve numerous times in 3 weeks and paying him I found that he never moved my email, contacts or basically any of my information that I asked him to not to mention something that was done was corrupting my new computer (per the Apple store) who later got my business. I had a small but annoying problem with a laptop. The rubberized bottom cover was separating from the metal cover. I sent an email message to Steve asking if this is something he could help with. He informed me this is a known problem for MacBooks and sent me an Apple.com url for a free replacement part. I contacted Apple and a new cover was sent to me the next day, even though the laptop was three years out of warranty. I installed the cover but couldn't get it tight. I took the laptop to Steve and with the right tool he had it all tightened up in about 15 seconds. I would never have known about Apple's replacement program. This saved me at least $50 to $75. I greatly appreciate Steve's help and won't hesitate to contact him in the future as necessary. It's nice to know such a great resource is nearby. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a business. First of all it took me several calls and e-mails to even make any initial contact with Steve. I took my computer to him and again several days went by and I didn't hear from him. Again I tried many many times over several days and even over a week to contact him by phone and e-mail with zero success. I was never able to reach him and never saw my computer again. I have since found out through yelp that this has happened to many other people and I wish I had searched yelp first. In my view Steve is little more than a thief.
