There was a chunk of something in my plate I'm still not sure what it was - I can only describe it as leather? What sells it for me is the fact they use soft Amaroso rolls from a bakery in Philadelphia, which is what most shops use. I usually order my sandwich with grilled onions and chopped green peppers along with a healthy dose of American cheese. A cheesesteak from Mac's is the perfect comfort food on a chilly day, and the location down on Exchange Street is usually the fastest. My only complaint is that the sandwiches are placed in clamshell containers that hold in the steam and heat, which can make the sandwich soggy if you wait until you get home to eat (or get delivery). I wish they wrapped the sandwiches in deli paper like most shops in Philly. It would also help the sandwiches firm up and be a little less sloppy to eat. The Philly steaks here are so good! They are on par with what you get in the city of Philadelphia. They use the tradition bread and the food is so good. It was very fresh and delicious. They offer salads, wraps, sandwiches and sides. The staff are super friendly and nice. They brought the food out to us. They were pretty busy with customers picking up orders and placing orders. Came here last year and ordered food and the price came out to about $15 more then what it should of based off there prices on the menu and so I asked about it and was told that's the old prices and they just haven't changed them yet. I come in today about a year later assuming that they had fixed the advertised pricing and sure enough my order came out to be a little over ten dollars extra then the advertised price so I said again why is this price not accurate and was told this time that the prices on the menu are about ten years old and that the manager knows that they are incorrect. With all the great eating places in Buffalo, we still come across those that are not located here, but wish they were! Tried this place as it was located in the same area as the river cruise office. What a great find! We ordered a full sized philly steak with crumbly blue cheese and a mac salad side. The roll was a good combination of soft but crunchy. (A nice change from the usual Buffalo Costanzo, which gets boring.) The amount of meat was generous. The blue cheese flavoring was intense. The side of mac salad was more than enough to share. An absolutely delicious and enjoyable lunch! One of us actually had some sandwich and salad left to take home. Will definitely keep this place in mind when in the Rochester area. I would drive by this place everyday from work and always wanted to try it out. Finally decided to try it last night and we absolutely loved it. I got a philly cheese steak with grilled onions and peppers, and fries on the side. My wife got chicken cheese steak with grilled onions and peppers and sweet potato fries on the side. We both absolutely loved it. The bun was fresh and soft. The meat fillings were a lot and was very flavorful. The fries were super crispy. The best part was we got it to-go and the sandwich was not soggy and the fries were still crispy. We will be regulars here for sure! We can customize our sandwiches and even the sweet potato fries. That was interesting. We got it well done and with salt. As someone who lived in Philly for two years and would regularly eat philly cheese steaks in food trucks and even Gino's, I love this place! Having been a fan since they popped up in Farmington, Canandaigua and ER (closed now), this location is super close to me. That being said, I'm pleased that they're within walking distance, as I definitely needed to walk it off! I'm a huge fan of their Philly Hots steak with the hot peppers on it, and can definitely appreciate the Fat Mac (like a philly cheese steak version of the garage plate on a giant roll!), and the Buffalo Chicken Philly. Let not forget they make wraps, hoagies, salads and even burgers! Side offerings like the standards - fries, cheese fries, Mac salad...and pickle fries! Their fried mushrooms are pretty bomb too! So we decided to try this spot out for lunch today. To give you an idea where it is.. it's in Corn Hill in the strip mall with Tony D's, Silk Road Pub and Flight Wine Bar. They have some parking but if it's later or close to the weekend it could be tricky. Ok. Due to Covid they seem to be doing a lot of to go orders. They have maybe one or two tables inside you can sit at the rest are outside. We sat outside probably the best option at least for the short term with good weather. They have a very large order board. Although a great idea sometimes less is more. You order at the counter, give them your name and they bring it to you. We ordered Cheese Steaks.. (if you have ever been to Gene's, Pat's or Tony Luke's) you would order "wit" this is not that place. Thing is most cheese steaks come with Cheese Wiz as it should. Why it was not offered she asked with American Cheese I said yes cause when you look at the board no info? My husband asked if they had it, Cheese Wiz they do he was confused as to why we were not asked about that. Also what you want on it again nothing on the board about it.. I guess you just tell them you want grilled onions , mushrooms or green peppers and you see if they have them. Sorry it would be nice to know.. if I've missed it that's on me but I also checked online so... Service is expedient but we had to go back in to get my drink. Everything came out fresh and hot. Why 3 Stars I give them 3.5... it looked good but everything except the fries (they were tasty) was bland. Yes I'm from the land of Italian Beef (Chicago) I know this is a Philly thing and I've been. When you walk in it looks small, but then you see that there is an entire upstairs seating area, as well as the seats outside. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I got a combo which comes with a small sub, French fries, and a drink, all for around $8--pretty good deal! I got a classic cheesesteak with mayo, lettuce, and banana peppers. The food was done quickly and tasted very fresh, especially the fries. The sandwich was good; a little heavy on the salt, but still good. They offer a variety of sauces, including country sweet/boss, hot sauce, etc. My favorite thing was that they provide vinegar for the fries, which not many places do. I really wanted to like this place but as a first time customer, the customer service was really lacking. The cashier was short with me and not helpful with understanding the ordering process. The wait was not told to us until well after we ordered, which should have been expressed at the time of ordering. (Like. 15-20 min wait for a philly cheesesteak with fries) Beyond that, I checked my receipt and discovered their listed prices were different from the prices I paid. The cashier said the prices changed recently due to Covid except there no way of knowing. The sandwich itself was not bad. A bit soggy (and we didn't wait to eat it). The fries were average, at best. Comfort food and quick bite all at a cheap price this is definitely a place your going to want to come and check out! Hidden in the Corn Hill area of Rochester you'll find Mac's Philly Steaks. It looks small at first glance but there's upstairs seating which I think is pretty cool. Other little perks that come with this place is the free WiFi which in these times I think we can all appreciate! I originally came in for the Philly Cheese Steak but unfortunately I wasn't that impressed. Overall there's lack of flavor and the bread was incredibly soggy. However I gave Mac's 3 Stars because I still have faith in the other options on the menu. The French fries are AMAZING! After not being please with the Steak Sub I decided to give the Mozzarella Sticks a chance (with another side of fries) One of my favorite foods! Luckily they didn't fail me. The breaded layer was mouth watering and the cheese was melted perfectly and tasted so fresh! However the side of marinara sauce they served me was obviously frozen and defrosted. It was almost as if you could taste the ice in the sauce. Thank god the mozzarella sticks alone were so good. The space is next to Tony D's in Corn Hill, where there's parking in a small lot or on the street. The space itself has a ton of seating - even an upper level for extra space. The decor is fresh, fun, and clean, and I love their giant painted menu! The staff was really amiable and helpful. We ordered: philly cheese steak combo meal, philly hot, kids meal with chicken tenders, and pickle fries.... Yeah, I was super hungry at the time and we ended up with way too much food!! The 8" phillys were the perfect size; or, if two people want to order the same thing, a 16" would be great to split! The fries portion was good, and I love the salt + pepper combo for seasoning. The kids meal came with 3 large chicken tenders, the same size side of fries as an adult combo, and a 16 oz drink - holy cow! The pickle fries were also AWESOME. I love fried pickles. Also found on the menu are burgers, garbage plates, roasted pork, reubens, chicken phillys, and more. We are totally coming back here when I get my next philly cheese steak craving, and the buffalo chicken philly is on my list to try as well! So I had a taste for a steak sub I've always ordered it the same way (no cheese) considering the children in my house have a dairy allergy. One bite of the sandwich I realized cheese was on it!! Ugh. Mac's is pure comfort food at its finest. I grew up in the Philly area and spent two years in the city itself for grad school and I can confidently say that Mac's does cheesesteaks RIGHT. Whether with provolone or whiz, the texture and flavor are on point and the secret is the rolls. These are the same rolls as in Philly. If you venture outside of a cheesesteak, they also do a killer cheesesteak be plate (a full size is HUGE btw), A+ mac salad, killer fries, creamy mac and cheese, delicious onion rings rivaling my all-time faves at Perri's, and solid pulled pork. Seriously, I have not gotten anything here that hasn't hit the spot. I love their upstairs seating and they have a cool royalty program where if you get a certain # of bucks, you get a free sandwich. There are no frills when it comes to Mac's. They know that they make great sandwiches and they make them well.
