We love this place & the setting on the outdoor patio. We drive from Salem from time to time. The food is great but the service is typically lacking. Tonight was REALLY bad. We drove over in the evening for dinner. At first, we were greeted right when we sat down. We ordered wine and a beer. The server never came back with our drinks. We waited about 40 minutes until walking out unnoticed. Pretty disappointed and driving back to Salem with no dinner after 8:30pm now. Probably will try to find a better serviced place if we decide to drive from Salem anytime soon. read more

Horribly slow and understaffed service made for a very poor experience. It's more of a bar than a restaurant which we didn't realize until we arrived and had already kind of committed to after walking there. We got there a little before 3 after hiking Silver Falls and thought it would be a quicker meal since we were between lunch and dinner. First thing, we were excited about the outdoor dining they had, especially since it is COVID times. When we arrived, we were disappointed to find that minors (we had our kids with us) were not allowed to eat outdoors. I'm assuming, they allow smoking? Outdoor dining is the best place for families with kids who can't be vaccinated so super bummed about that. They seemed a little hesitant when we checked in, looking stressed and not too welcoming. But it started off well. We placed our order within the first ten minutes, mostly fried foods like fries and po boys so figured it wouldn't be too long. And that's where it really went downhill. The server served us water and took our order. Came back ten minutes later and took away our water pitcher to "refill" it...and then disappeared. We sat there for a good hour without food or even seeing our server. My aunty said she saw another table get their food and heard them say "hope this is worth the wait." Uh-oh. We had two kids and a 1 year old toddler. Anyone every tried to get a 1 year old just sit at a table for an hour? We were pulling out all our tricks and thankfully he was in a good mood. It wasn't just the long wait, the server must have been also overwhelmed. But no one even was checking in on tables. Acknowledging anyone. Our water glasses were empty. We had no idea what the ETA was on food. We looked around and saw a lot of tables just not eating. I get the kitchen gets backed up. But that's when you check in on tables and just let us know that we're not forgotten. We hit the 1 hour 15 minutes from ordering and last seeing our server and we were all starving. No one came in to check on us, nothing appeared. We also had long drives ahead of us. We weren't even mad. We used that time to catch up with our friends chatting. But we hit a fork in the road where we knew we had to feed our three kids. At that point, I was ready to just cancel our order, say good-bye to our friends, pick up McDonalds and start the long drive home. So my husband went off to track down the server. Unless the food was on its way out, we just wanted to cancel our order and be on our way. She got immediately defensive and he just kept reiterating that we weren't mad, we just couldn't make our three kids wait any longer to eat. She then brought out one of the kids dishes but got defensive again when I asked if other food would come out or should we just cancel. It's great that you can bring out one kids meal, but if it's going to be another half hour for everyone else to eat, we'd like to just leave and pick up food on our drive. She gave some flippant answer about being slammed because it's Saturday. I get it. We're just being logical, will there be food or not be food in the same time it can take us to grab drive-thru? Suddenly, we had our food in the next 10 minutes. To it's credit, the food was good. Or we were just starving by that time. We tipped the server and tipper her well since we can't blame her since she doesn't cook food and she seemed to be manning a lot of tables, but I had to come write this review. If you are understaffed and can't put food out in time, let people know before you seat them. Check in with tables, let them know what's going on. If you go longer than an hour to serve them food that can be fried up in 5 minutes, knock down the bill. Heck, give them a free dessert or appetizer. Any of that would have gone such a long way. Doing none of those gets you an unhappy review on Yelp. And please let your servers know that masks go over the nose! read more

Worst place on earth. I will never be back. The bartender was not friendly, and the service was HORRIBLE!!! I went in to have a couple of drinks, since we had a babysitter for a couple of hours and she cut me off after one drink, saying she suspected that I had been drinking prior. She was a jealous, full of envy, rotten to the core person. I just wanted to have a nice atmosphere, sit on the deck and enjoy the sound of the creek while visiting with my friends. Booo. Giving one star is generous! We were there for an hour and were only given a pitcher of water and a promise a server would be right with us. Twenty minutes later the guys went to the bar to order drinks. They were told to go back to the table to wait for a server. When she finally took the drink order it took another 20 minutes to get our drinks! We then got a new server (original server had to leave to teach a yoga class ... really?) I thought this place deserved better than 3 1/2 stars. The 1/3 lb burger was MORE than ample. The Drunken Pig Po Boy was really tasty with the whiskey apples (yum!) while tots were fried right. We could see the food sitting at the kitchen window for nearly fifteen minutes while the waitress entertained the regulars (Hey, we're paying too). Only around 7 tabled customers, don't know why such slow service. Burger was good but the nachos-no good. Oh, and the regulars: loud, "f-this, f-that," over and over. We like to sit outside right along the creek that runs through town. It is beautiful on a sunny day. Only problem is you seat yourself so we have sat outside for 7-10 minutes until we had to get up and seek out a waitress to get a table cleaned and place our drink order. My husband loves the Shrimp Po-boy and we come here from time to time when he gets a hankering for it. Good local diner food. read more

I went for the first time to hear live music with friends and family. The atmosphere is nice and drinks are reasonably priced with a good selection. The food and service were HORRIBLE! I ordered a special of the day ribs and the food came with completely different sides than I ordered.It was also served with cheap plastic fork that literally broke off in the food. When I asked for a metal fork you would think I had asked the waitress for a heart transplant - she was dismissive and treated me like an idiot. They did eventually bring one by 30 min later.... Overall this is a good place to relax for music and drinks but I would not recommend anyone eat there! I think it could be nice if they got better wait staff and actually served what you ordered on the menu with metal silverware. My suggestion is eat at McDonald's before you go if you want food but otherwise its good for a place to grab a beer. read more

Every time I have been in this pub this summer the service has been terrible. they always seem to be understaffed and the waitresses have really bad attitudes. Really Silverton? We were in town on a Sunday afternoon and found this place along the river and not much else downtown. What gives? A restaurant on the river seems like a definite winner, but the deck functions as the place's smoking lounge and the seating is poorly laid out. So it was up to the cook to win us over, but the grisly Reuben sandwich and overcooked fries never had a chance to satisfy. The ketchup had an odd watery texture and my pint of beer was served sticky. All that and it was overpriced: one salad, one sandwich, two beers: $30. read more

Ok, so from the reviews here, and the view from the street, we decided to stop in here on our way back to Portland from a long day at Silver Falls. It's a bar, period. The weather being so nice, we opted to sit out back along the river on their outside deck. This is the smoking section, though they have table tents that say, "Enjoy our outdoor dining". Parts of the deck were off limits, because it was falling through into the river below. We got a picnic table close to the building, and thought we'd check out the menu. I had the Greek Salad. It wasn't terrible, though it wasn't anything more than bag lettuce and feta cheese. I probably made a safe choice. Keith didn't have such luck. Let's jut put it this way, he helped me with my salad. These small cities should all have some fantastic restaurants, especially those towns that have local attraction. We won't be back to Mac's. Ugh... read more

Our food looked nothing like the pictures on this site. The food (burgers and sandwiches) were overpriced and the sides were extra. Noting came with a side. The kids meals were pathetic and we had to stop at McDonald's after leaving for the kids. The food was fairly generic out of a box, wrapper or freezer. The service was terrible and of the six people in my party only one of us received a refill on our drinks. We were not served water when we came in so everyone was thirsty. The waitress acted as if she was busy despite only having a handful of customers in the place. The building was really cold (turn on some heat) it is the winter time. We will never visit this restaurant again and cannot recommend it to anyone either. Small portions, over priced, cold building, very average tasting food, terrible kids meals and really poor service!!! read more

To start with the positive, the food was actually really good. I would eat the food again if I didnt have to actually come back to the restaurant. Now for the rant: The service was slooooooow and inattentive. And it was not busy. We were not in any kind of hurry, but golly, it took a long time just to take our order. When the food finally came out, they could have made 2 in our party sick. One was allergic to tomatoes, and asked for no tomato on the sandwich. There was tomato juice and seeds on the sandwich, so they clearly put the tomato on, then took it off to "fix" it before sending it from the kitchen. This is just dishonest. They did take it back and made a new one, saying it would just take a minute. She did not get her new sandwich until we were all done eating. The second has a dairy allergy, and asked for no cheese on his sandwich, also stating that it was an allergy, so please dont butter the bun if that is what they do. The kitchen followed suit, but did nothing about the fact that the po' boy bun had cheese baked on top! Seriously?! I really hope this was just an off day for the staff. read more

For the prices, the food is really good! My brother had a corned beef sandwich (which we found out they cure on site). I had the "EVERYTHING" pizza with basil which I really enjoyed. I bet this place is fun on the weekends as it looks like a lot of live bands play. The downside was that it was freezing in there. The AC was cranked way up even though it was a 70 degree day. And our service was really slow and pretty flat. They have a really neat patio that I wish we would have sat at, but I bet the service would be even slower back there. read more

Went to Mac's Place for the 1st time this past week and boy, are we glad we did !!! The service, food and atmosphere was superb !!!! We ate our lunch outside and what a view !! The food portions were very generous and my wife's hamburger, 'her way' and my chicken club were absolutely delicious !!!! We even gave our compliments to both chefs on the way out. We live in Salem but if we are ever near or passing through Silverton again, we will definitely stop by Mac's place again. Great food, great service, great view !!! I've walked by mac's several times and do occasionally see it packed on a weekend, but it must be on a night with live music, because they can't be going for the food or the service. After my third catastrophic visit, I vowed never to go again. Even when the place isn't very busy, the service is ridiculously slow and rude. The food sounds great, but when you finally get it, it's cold, congealed, and so over salted it's inedible. This place lands in my top 3 all-time "Best Burger Ever" category. It was a welcomed surprise after a nice long day hike at Silver Falls State Park where we decided to stop on our way back through Silverton, OR. My girlfriend and I had never stopped here and we basically just walked in here by blind luck. We each ordered a burger which is served to order on an incredible onion roll with a side of delicious pub fries. I am almost certain the fries were doused in a tiny bit of truffle oil and fried to perfection. The burger itself was nothing short of amazeballs! Terrific tasting beef, probably near 1/2 lb., and thick peppered bacon, cheddar cheese, sauteed onion, pickle, lettuce, the perfect amount of salt n' pepper and fry sauce. Oh yes, fry sauce! A nice cold IPA to wash everything down and we we're in heaven. The place also has a back deck that overlooks the stream (I think Silver Creek) which is a great place to sit during the warmer months. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because the 2nd time we drove all the way back from Portland JUST to step back into this burger paradise, we had pretty terrible service. There was only 1 girl there to serve the whole place and she wasn't very attentive to details. Luckily the food is good enough to keep me coming back, and hopefully they get things sorted out with the staff in the mean time. I will definitely be back regardless :) read more

Found this place on Yelp, and went during lunch time. The mac and cheese with jalapeno was good. The German sausage had a good smoky flavor. The fried asparagus had a lot of batter and was really oily. There was only one server for the entire establishment so the service was a little slow for taking orders, drink refills, and receiving the bill. This place is a bar. Although I often see kids in here, kids do not belong in here: it is a bar. Recently, (end of 2010 I believe), they updated their menu. It's still pretty much bar food, but it is now very good bar food. For example, they serve hand cut French fries with raspberry chipotle jelly (delicious). And they serve potato skins with house-smoked pork jowls (delectable). Their mixed drinks are terrible (how do you screw up a gin and tonic?) and their selection of beers is not exactly to my taste, but this place has the best bar food in town. read more

We're remodeling and have been without a kitchen for a month. We like to cook and dining out is getting old. Last night we had the best meal out that we've had (and we've had many) during this project. Mac's has a new cook and the special items were her recipes and creations. I had steelhead with good, thick, creamy mashed potatoes, and broccoli / cauliflower that was cooked perfectly. Hubby had crab stuffed halibut, cubed sweet potatoes, and brussel sprouts. We shared both of our plates so we could sample everything. And it was all DIVINE. My daughter had pulled pork tacos that were also fantastic. All of this goodness was enjoyed with a visit to our table by owner Glen Damewood, who, true to form, shared a joke with us. I love this little bar! The beer is cold, a rarity in these parts, and the menu is full of wonderful food ( I haven't even tried it all yet) I honestly think that I have had the best burger EVER at this bar. The view off of the Deck is amazing, and is a perfect place to enjoy a drink and some quiet time. I often go there and read my book while having lunch. Sunday night, there is a local jam session that is also wonderful. I met my dad there a few years ago when he was visiting from North Carolina, and he also agreed that it was the best blues jam he has ever been too. Next time you are in Silverton, give this Bar a go. read more
