Extremely overpriced, this is a Safeway/Albertsons owned store, one of the largest American chains…read morewith a huge amount of buying power, the prices are still significantly higher than little Mom and Pop stores in the area, you just can't get everything you need at those stores. I shop here as a last resort as another 25 minute drive takes me to smaller, regional chains with much lower prices and phenomenally better customer service. On my trip today, my purchases included two loafs of bread that had a big sign in the aisle for a new lower price. When they rang up for nearly $1 more a loaf the shift leader who was assisting a newer cashier didn't really believe me and spent over 10 minutes going to find the sign for herself while the elderly people in the rapidly lengthening line behind me got very frustrated. She then came back and verified I was correct, changed the price and a left the area forcing the cashier to call her back and wait even longer for her to override the price before the cashier was allowed to finish the transaction. If this happened every once in a while it would be one thing, but this happens two out of three times I visit ANY Shaws location. **UPDATE**. YELP PLEASE TAKE NOTICE The response from corporate was mostly an advertisement for their shopper card program since my review mentioned price. I am a member and still pay more than the further away independently owned markets. The sales frequently don't come up in on the register and it's always a fight. Horrible customer service.

Yup, we love Mehuron's for the full cases of local cheeses, game, prepared foods, locally produced…read morebakery breads, craft beers, and so much other local goodness. But I have to give credit where it's due. There's a lot of awesomeness going on at Shaw's, too, that we need to acknowledge. Shaw's rotisserie chicken is fabulous for a grocery store -- a delicious, easily customizable dinner option if you're too tired to cook and don't feel like doing the apres ski meal out because of, well, youknowhat. . Also, they also have fresh oysters!!! Large, mature Wellfleets in Dec. this year for a mere 75 cents/oyster. (They were fresh, aggressively briny as east coast oysters are.) There are live lobsters, well priced major label products of all kinds, especially if you shop weekly deals. (Cabot cheese always seems to be on sale... and frankly, that shiznit is good!) There are fairly priced wines from major label vineyards. They are not as esoteric as some you might find at Mehuron's, but you can certainly find excellent, well-priced options for a Christmas crowd. Most importantly for us, though: Staff were so deeply kind despite pandemic / nation-wide economic and racial stressors this year. We have to give a special shout out to the really, really lovely human wearing a Pride pin who encouraged the lobsters to be more active for my fascinated 6-year old. (Frankly, captive lobsters in a tank always make me sad, but he did this from a kind and generous place.) I think he may have been the same employee (wearing a "Joe" name tag) who dressed as Santa in a kilt on Christmas Eve Day and gave my same 6-year old a candy cane. This truly made her day. (She talked about how she met Real Santa at a grocery store to anyone who would listen for hours after.) The transplant from Tennessee who worked the cash register every day we were there was friendly and cheerful to everyone, seemed to be known by everyone. The guys at the deli case were affirmatively helpful. I know what you do isn't easy and we appreciate you. Happy holidays!!

LoVe this Hancock Country Store!…read more Sara the owner dd a beautiful job renovating this old building. She told me that she's been here for a decade! I couldn't believe it but I haven't been in the habit of stopping in Hancock. This CS though will be in my circulation :)! It's one of my favorite finds this season! Hubbard's I think appeals to visitors as well as locals bc they do have a bit of everything and a deli with super reasonable prices! It's a great place to pick up CofFeE, snacks, sandwiches, pizza, bevies, mementos, gifts etc., to your hikes or to wherever. Sara is very personable and helpful! It's conveniently located on SR125 where SR100 & SR125 meet, across from the tiny hotel restaurant. Hubbard's will soon be offering gas as well. That'll be nice to have gas on both ends of the Middlebury Gap. There are several parking spots in front of the store. Enjoy!

It is a cute country store and walking around. I picked up a note pad for my wife for her Christmas stocking ... But I came here for the pizza. I ordered up a large onion, pepper and sausage... And it was delightful... The cheese was great. The toppings were ample and the tomato sauce was a great balance... The fresh dough made it complete. It didn't hurt that the person making it was welcoming. Great at conversation and if I dare say darn good looking. I couldn't recommend this place enough. If you're in the area, drop into the store. See what they have. Order up a pizza. Grab some ice cream. Grab a couple of gifts. You won't go wrong.
