    Chi-Chi Golden Leaf Tea ($6.00)
    Courtney L.

We came to Macu Tea around 1:00P on a Saturday and I was surprised that we were the only customers at the time. The shop is tidy and had custom Seattle / Bellevue art on the wall, which was a nice local touch. There is a very small section of seating inside, but no tables, so most customers merely just pick up their tea and go. Macu specializes in dessert drinks which sound tempting and indulgent, but all of them are "fixed", so you need to order them as-is with no customizations to the sweetness and ice levels. Since I had just finished lunch, I wanted a lighter drink and noticed their Golden Leaf Tea is a "Macu Exclusive", so I knew I had to try it. It's described as a unique variety of Oolong. You can get the Golden Leaf Tea in just its plain brewed form, in a milk tea, or as part of their Chi-Chi series, which comes topped with cheese foam. + CHI-CHI GOLDEN LEAF TEA w/ 10% sweetness & light ice ($6.00): I feel perplexed by this drink. Despite not having much of a tea flavor, I endured a little caffeine buzz a couple hours later. I am not sure if the tea itself is supposed to be more mild in flavor, but I just couldn't sense its strength. However, the drink was crisp and refreshing, with the 10% sweetness level being perfect for my taste. The cheese foam was pretty light, smooth and not too salty. As I sipped it, the foam melded gradually with the tea and took over the flavor, making it slightly creamy too. One of my companions got the RUBY GRAPEFRUIT LI-LI TEA ($6.75 + $0.75 boba) and couldn't taste the tea either. It was very grapefruit-forward, including lots of pulp from the fruit. She said the boba was nicely cooked and lightly sweetened. We ordered at the kiosk and the staff called our number in just a few minutes. It didn't take long since they just had a couple mobile orders other than ours. I am willing to give Macu another chance, but was just let down since my tea seemed quite diluted compared to other Oolong teas I've ordered elsewhere. 3.25 stars.

Got two tiramisu lattes here -- one chocolate and one matcha -- and both were good. But, I was surprised there was no boba, especially because the kiosk photos clearly showed boba in the tiramisu lattes. I am almost certain that we ordered it, too. It did not come automatically, and it also was not listed as an add-on option at the kiosk. So, if you want boba, order at the front counter instead with a representative. I wish that they clarified that upfront because the visuals were misleading. The staff was not interactive. They were focused on making drinks and keeping the space clean -- which is the bare minimum -- but it did not feel welcoming at all. There was also no clarity on when orders were ready. They would just place the drinks at the front and move on without calling out numbers, or confirming which order was what. It would help a lot if they announced the order number and drink name so that customers know when to step up. There is not much seating here either. It is a pretty tight shop, but thankfully there are other good restaurants and stores nearby, if you want to hang out elsewhere. Parking is a bit tough, so get comfortable with parallel parking on the strest The lighting inside is very bright -- almost too bright -- but honestly, it matches the energy of the tiramisu latte that kept me wide awake. One extra star for the free, collapsible red cup holders that I never seen any other boba shop do, though!

Got the milk tea and it's super strong and aromatic which is great. It was shockingly sweet even though I've selected 30% sugar

I stopped by on a hot day, and their mango drinks are absolutely delicious! The location is very convenient, although it's more of a take-out spot as there is very few seatings inside. I ordered on the tablet and did not have to wait long for my drinks. I got the chi-chi mango smoothie, which comes with cheese foam. It was super tasty and refreshing, I highly recommend trying their mango seasonal menu!

We went to get boba tea to see what is all the hype. No regrets here, it was very good. Service The staff was professional and polite. Ambience Clean, very modern and positive overall.

Macu Tea is another new tea and boba spot in downtown Bellevue, so of course, I had to check it out. It took over former tea spots, so hopefully this one has a better chance of staying. Although it's not my favorite spot, it's good. Located on the retail level of an apartment building near Safeway, it's close to many businesses and Bellevue Downtown Park. The location is convenient. The space inside isn't the largest, but there's enough room to sip your drink and chill for a bit. I tried their best-selling drink, the King Mango Smoothie, which had mango, grapefruit chunks, coconut and green tea. It's similar to HeyTea's mango coconut boom, but in comparison, it falls short to HeyTea. But it was certainly not a bad drink, especially since there were tons of mango and they use fresh fruit, which is a huge plus. The menu offers a lot of different drinks, fruit-based, milk-based, etc. There's something for everyone here. And a bonus, they have such cute drink holders for takeout. Gotta dig that.

    - super good king of mango smoothie! - We have tried MACU before at u district but my husband wasn't a fan since he ordered their boba milk tea. While MACU stands no chance in terms of milk tea with other places such as chi cha San chen or hey tea, their fruit tea is superb. I tried the D01 king of mango smoothie and I was hooked. I have never wanted the same drink two days in a row, EVER. It is just that good, and it's their #1 best seller. It's a shame that you can't change ice or sugar level, so it's quite sweet. It is called Mango Sago Pomelo 2.0 in Chinese, but they replaced sago with green tea jelly which is good as well. The drink is mostly mango, so you might be disappointed if you want more pomelo (you might get a couple pieces but that's it). I highly recommend this place if you love fruity drinks, and go around the block to chi cha San chen if you want tea based drinks. PS. There is a coupon on hungry panda right now, so the drink was around $4. Not sure when the promotion will end, but it's such a great deal for a 700ml drink.

Macu Tea is one of the newest boba spots to open in Bellevue, taking over the former space of Drive Thru Boba and Tra Tea on 4th, right across from Lincoln Square. They also have a location in U-District. I've been here twice since they opened. On my first visit, I tried the KING OF MANGO SMOOTHIE ($7.50), which was super refreshing on a hot day. As someone who doesn't normally like fruity drinks, this was the BEST natural fruity boba I've had. They use fresh honey mangoes (which they ripen right on their window sill) and load the drink up with mango, grapefruit, coconut milk, and green tea jelly. The sweetness (which I don't think you can adjust) was perfect and it had an amazing variety of tastes and textures with every sip. They call it a "drinking dessert" because it's basically a meal on its own. I was blown away by how good this drink is and still think about it to this day. Everyone in front of me in line was ordering it and compared to Hey Tea's Coconut Mango Boom just down the street, this drink was the clear winner. On my second visit, I ordered the GOLDEN LEAF MILK TEA ($5.25) with boba (+$0.75), with 10% sweetness and light ice, per my friend's recommendation. Honestly, the drink itself looked very light and dull in color (almost like milk) and I was worried that they diluted the tea. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how strong the tea flavor was upon my first sip. I'm normally not a fan of oolong tea, but this tea wasn't overly earthy or bitter like most oolong I've tried in the past. 10% sweetness was also definitely sweet enough for this drink as someone who normally gets 30-50% sweetness depending on the boba place. The boba was pre-sweetened and so that also added some sugar. The consistency was a little more watery than I'd prefer, but the taste was there! Service was okay. Both days I went (especially my first visit) were quite slow because of how crowded they were. I got my drink maybe 20-25 minutes after ordering. They probably could use more help, but the counter is also quite small. The interior is clean and minimalistic. There is minimal seating here and so most people take their drinks elsewhere, such as to Downtown Bellevue Park right across the street. Overall: 5/5 for drinks, 3.5/5 for service, 3.5/5 for atmosphere

I'm a big fan of Macu Tea! I loved them in Canada, and when they opened this location in Bellevue I was so excited to try! The space is not big or small, good enough for about 3 small group to sit and hang around. The staff is friendly and drinks did not take long to be ready. The king mango drink? It's a MUST order imo. I'm so glad they have a Bellevue location, and since mango was not really in season at the time I went I can't wait to come back when it is!

I love their Ruby Grapefruit Li-Li Tea. That was the first tried, and kept wanting to come back for more of it. I've tried the Orange & Mango Li-Li tea once, but I always stick to the grapefruit tea. I've tried with a variety of toppings, including the tapioca, which is good texture. Never has been too busy at the times I come. Ordering is easy on the kiosk. And comes with cute little carriers that makes it easy for me to carry as I walk back to my car.

Another boba shop in downtown Bellevue! I stopped by during their first day of grand opening & tried a Sunshine Li-Li Tea and Chi-Chi Golden Leaf Tea. The teas tasted fresh and perfect sweetness level (50% and 25% sugar). It's just their first grand opening day so I had to wait a little bit for my drinks but that's expected. The staffs were very helpful and nice though! The shop isn't super big so can feel a little crowded at times. There're some benches to sit on/wait for your order.

Came in while waiting for a lunch reservation and wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Orange & Mango Li Li Tea and it was delicious! Fresh squeezed orange juice and mango slices were PERFECT for a nice refreshing drink. It's a small store, but it was a nice air conditioned pit stop before lunch.

This was my first time at Emerald City Smoothie in ten years and my first time at the Downtown Bellevue location. The interior is fairly small with only a few tables to sit/stand at and so it's mostly a takeout place rather than a place to meet with friends. Emerald City Smoothie has a wide menu and categorize their menu into five categories based on health goals: "Boost My Immune System", "Help Me Lose Weight", "Go Green", "Bulk Me Up" and "Nourish My Body". They also have a menu just for "Boosters" which cost extra and include everything from antioxidants to bees pollen to creatine and fat burner. Lastly, they have a Secret Menu which includes Banana Creme Pie, Matcha Green Tea, Maui Paradise, Mountain Berry Blast, Orange Creamsicle, Piña Colada, and Peanut Butter Cup. I'm pretty sure their secret menu is just drinks that don't fit into the other categories (or ran out of room for), because they had these same drinks on their menu ten years ago. I ordered the MATCHA GREEN TEA (16-oz) off the secret menu. This smoothie has soy milk, matcha, non-fat milk, and whey. For $7.44 (including tax), this was pretty pricey for a "healthified" matcha Frappucinno. They obviously don't use high quality matcha as the matcha color was on the yellow side and the taste was quite diluted and bland. It mostly just tasted like sugary blended milk with little to no matcha flavor; I was honestly disappointed, but drank it anyway. My friend got her favorite NUTTY BANANA (sub vegan protein) which has banana, peanut butter, protein, and nonfat milk, which is probably what I should've gotten instead. She also ordered a PB&J and MANGO MANIA for her family members which are also supposed to be decent. Lesson learned, stick with the fruit smoothies. Service was good- the baristas are friendly and efficient and we got our drinks within 10 minutes after ordering. Overall: 2/5 for drinks, 4/5 for service, 3/5 for atmosphere

The menu is quite small with three cold sandwiches and three hot ones, each inspired by a different region of the globe with the South Pacific, South America and Mediterranean as a few examples. There were two salads listed as well. I've been here twice and both times, when I went to place my order on the iPad, the menu stated they were out of stock for the sandwich that I wanted. However, when I asked the employee, she said that was not correct. So if you see the same message when ordering, it's worth asking about it! During my first visit, I ordered the RENDANG ($14). This hot sandwich came packed with SO much meat! Very tender chunks of marinated beef tasted of coconut, curry and warm spices. The flavor had true depth and I could actually taste hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Thin spears of pickled cucumber and carrot added crunch and a perfect zing of acidity. They were refreshing and cut through the rich beef. A drizzle of Sambal Terasi (chili) aioli gave it another layer of flavor. Cilantro, mint and Thai basil were all fresh and vibrant. The bread was lightly toasted, being a little crinkly in texture without being harsh against my gums. If I could change something, I would include a couple extra slices of the cucumber to balance out the ratio of vegetables to meat, and add a bit more of the aioli. Other than that, this is a great sandwich influenced by flavors of the South Pacific. My companion got the STEAK sandwich ($15) and enjoyed it. The steak slices were thinly cut and tender as well. They do their beef right! On another occasion, I tried the PROSCIUTTO ($14), one of their cold sandwiches. The delicate layers of prosciutto were placed on top of sliced tomatoes, pickled onion and arugula, all between pressed focaccia bread. Truffle mustard was spread on both pieces of bread, which was WAY too much in my opinion. With this mustard having a stronger flavor, it overpowered the sandwich and made it too tangy, especially in combination with the pickled onions. The menu stated this should include pistachios, but I didn't notice any, and they were all out of provolone, so there was also an absence of cheese. For the prices, these sandwiches are pretty generous in size, so I consider them a good deal, especially for the Bellevue area. The ingredients are fresh and make for a fantastic lunch option. While I wasn't a huge fan of the Prosciutto sandwich, I'd definitely go back again for another Rendang!
