The sales staff are either young and spritzing you with perfume without asking as you walk by, or harassing you to come see something or have something done (think eyebrow waxing at Benefit counter). Or the sales staff are old hags who are slow and could care less. Worst shoe department I've ever seen, with staff that is completely incompetent. This review is for the cosmetics department, especially the Estee Lauder counter. I'm only giving one star because I am forced to. I would give minus 10 stars if I could!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THE ESTEE LAUDER COUNTER!!! The cosmetic sales staff at the Newport Beach Macy's is the MOST obnoxious and aggressive that I have EVER encountered in my entire life. I am so tired of being hunted down by these people to sample fragrances or to let them do my brows. It feels like a Turkish bazaar with all the yelling and "come over here" that goes on. I usually walk through the shoe department to avoid these awful people but today I was on the hunt for lip gloss. I hit the MAC counter and told the girl I was "just looking". No problem she said and left me alone to browse. Not so with the snotty, obnoxious POS working at the Estee Lauder counter. I told her I was just looking but that did not deter her in her quest for a commission. She charged back at me with tissues, Q-tips, makeup remover and suggestions on what I should try. I guess "just looking" goes in one ear and out the other with this dummy. Tired of being jumped on by all of these people, I put the lip gloss down and started to walk away. This was not enough for bitchy Estee Lauder counter girl. "Did I turn you off" she sneered at me. Excuse me??? Did you just say what I thought you did??? I turned around and said to her "You are rude"! To say that this girl was rude is an understatement and yes, you just did "turn me off " and you lost a sale. I may very well have bought a lip gloss from you if you were not so dayam pushy and left me alone to look like I asked you to. How about telling a customer "let me know if you need some help" and then leaving the customer alone to look. I am capable of looking on my own and I don't need somebody hoovering over me. Actually, I was DUMBFOUNDED by her rude comment. I simply could not BELIEVE that she had the nerve to mouth off like that to a customer. Needless to say, that is the LAST time I will spend one dollar at any cosmetic counter in any Macy's. I can go to to Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's and Neiman's just in Fashion Island alone. I don't have to stand for a snotty, rude attitude from some snotty cosmetic sales counter girl. Really, I hope this girl pulls this one too many times and gets canned. I simply cannot believe that a store like Macy's would employ people who mouth off to customer's in this manner I have NEVER had such a RUDE experience with a sales clerk in my entire life. Not even Wal Mart clerks treat people like this and I'm sure if they did, they would be history. Good luck Macy's. My 10 year old son, my mother in law, and myself went to this Macy's today and when we got there we decided to go to the restroom first well let me tell you that is the worst restroom that I have seen in a very, very long time, and we never expect from a Macys. There was only one stall per bathroom so only one person could go in at a time is not bad no big deal, but buckshot diarrhea on the back of the toilet and the wall now that is a problem. The poop was dry so I don't know how long it had been since person pooped . How utterly disgusting. So my son went into the men's room and there was pee all over the toilet seat and the sink was plugged absolutely disgusting Needless to say we will never return to that Macys. Shame on you Macy's for having lazy employees not to be checking the restroom for your clientele. read more

The service was really upsetting. I walked around the entire 2nd floor, lugging around 15 dresses to try on, and not a single person asked if I'd like a dressing room or if they could help. Grantef, I'm a little spoiled: I usually go to Neiman Marcus or Saks, and I have personal shoppers at both, so I'm used to getting my butt kissed when I shop... but still, at least ask if I'd like a dressing room! Once I found my own dressing room, tried everything on, and settled on my choices...I had to search again for a salesperson so I could pay for it all. So ridiculous. The makeup ladies also were too busy giving each other makeovers to even notice customers. The only saving grace was the lady in the bedding section. I told her all about the laziness upstairs, and she was great. She deserves to be manager so she can show everyone else how to behave. read more

Went in for dress shoes, picked out 4 pair and watched the woman working behind the counter try to avoid eye contact with me. She carefully navigated the microscopic shoe area so as to not help anyone. I approached her and she begrudgingly asked if I needed help. I felt pretty bad for my sales associate, my simple return experience reminded why I hated retail sales. It's a Sunday, so I came in here expecting crowds. All I wanted to do was return my Dockers, just a man and his return for cash. If I had known it would create such a hassle, I would have gone to another location or maybe just burn my dockers. Again, service was ok as far as her kind words of "I'm sorry, someone will be down soon". I kept wandering how a register didn't have $40. As a size 14/16, I often shop in the Plus area, and this store has a dismal, sad selection compared to South Coast. The parking is crappier as well, and the men's section is so small compared to S.C. This is my favorite store and location. Virtually 90% of my Macy's purchases are from this location. There's more variety and selection than the other locations in the area and the staff is so friendly. I adore the customer service here. Not only do they always check for coupons and discounts for your purchases, they will help you save more money. What happened to Macy's in Fashion Island? I feel like I'm in another space and time when I'm here. It's getting weirder and weirder. I always come in with an open mind wanting to buy something like shoes, some clothes or jewelry but most often leave empty-handed. The merchandise is really odd, doesn't seem to fit the vibe. A couple visits ago (April), I asked the saleswoman if I could try on a shoe. She left and never came back. I think it was a language barrier. I don't seem to have as much trouble with other Macy's (San Francisco or Marin County) where I often shop. Not sure why this one is getting a bit off (in my opinion). Very quick in store pick up (second floor, men's dept. Look for the big red and black sign hanging from the ceiling.) My husband ordered online and got an email confirmation rather quickly, and he put my name as the designee. I picked the item up in store, no waiting, by simply giving my name and swiping my drivers license. Later, we found out the item was defective, and he called the customer service at 6pm and they shipped us a new item. Good customer service. In comparison to the Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus at Fashion Island, this particular Macy's looks somewhat like a glorified JCPenney or Sears store in the OC. Having said that, this store carries bog-standard "classic style" brands (think Polo, Nautica, etc.) along with their in-house everyday brands (Charter Club, Alfani, etc.). And they do have sales, but when I went there it was mostly out of the budget for me. So, if you are looking for deals at Macy's in the OC (especially if you have a coupon), go to the Fashion Island location. If you are looking for luxury brands, at least Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's are nearby. read more

I came here after not finding what I wanted at Nordstrom's. Wonderfully enough a great sales rep in handbags helped me find my Quilted Betsey Johnson bag and Magenta Pink leather Coach bag. I was in heaven! She was helpful and considerate better than the Fashion Island Nordstrom's I had just come from. We were able to use our Macys registry points towards my purchases which made it even more affordable. My Husband thought I needed a new makeup bag to go in my new purse purchases but they have a very limited selection of those. read more

I think this is the best Macy's in the area. Organized with helpful staff. Just one complaint. The bathrooms in the men's area are now all unisex. Honestly it doesn't have to be the fanciest bathroom but a coat of paint and fixed tile would be appreciated. It honestly looks like an oversized restroom at a gas station. My review is for the MAC counter inside this Macy's. I needed a new bottle of Studio Fix foundation. The shade I had been using for the past few months just didn't seem right so I asked the gal at the counter to help me find a better looking shade for my skin tone. She tried a few on me, and then determined that a recently introduced shade matched my skin tone better than the shade I had been using. She didn't try to sell me a bunch of other stuff which was great... because as much as I would love to go crazy there, I'm on a budget. Anyway, I've been wearing this new shade for a few days and it's excellent. She did a great job matching my skin tone. My makeup overall looks SO much better now. Today, May 10, 2018 - Sunday -around 13:00 pm I went to Macy's Fashion Island mall to return a jacket coat, I bought online. I went to the Men's section to return , no customer on the counter. An Assistant Sales Lady took my return coat and start folding them. Mitra jump in to the counter carrying some items for the customer who was following her. ( No explanation, no excuse mentioned when she jump in and the Assistant just remained quiet ) Mitra kind of set aside my return and proceed to do her transaction for her customer first - at the same time telling me that I can return them downstairs- I asked -If I can return this item in here - She said " yes" then I told her since I'm here I will just return here and I will wait for her finishing her customer in spite I got here ahead of them. After finishing her customer, Mitra reminded me again to return item downstairs and I said you told me already a while ago - It seems like they DO NOT like to help customer in spite, there no customer is on the line at the counter - Then Assistant Lady proceeded to finish my return transactions. Why did the Assistant Lady allowed Mitra to jump in and took over the cashier first when she can finish my transaction. Bad customer service! read more

My daughter and I went on 3-31-18 Andy in the men's shoe department was so rude to the elderly women in front of us it was disgusting he had her sign up for a credit card and when she asked if she could receive 20% off her purchase he became deeming and rude . We had a return with appropriate paperwork and receipt's he took all of our personal information and told us to then go to another department . I've been a Macy's loyalist for many years. Sad to say the furniture & mattress departments are A MESS. Customer Service reps for delivery are poorly trained & unprofessional. I've had 2 horrible experiences in 2 months. I was transferred to 3 different service reps (1 a supervisor) just to change phone # on my account specifically in the furniture department. Even the "supervisor" couldn't do it, nor tell me who could. The rep just hung up on me when she couldn't get it done & wanted to transfer me back to the previous rep. This is not the best Macy's in comparison to others. The makeup department, and the lady's at benefits are always nice, but the clothing department leaves something to be desired. All designers are there that you typically see at other Macy's like Free People, Michael Kors, INC etc. But the department feels very outdated, as well as the clothing and the various jeans styles. Everything is also a cluster mess. For instance, the area where they keep a lot of the designer Jeans was a complete disaster - I wasn't sure what was the latest style vs the sale rack, everything seemed to mixed together. I feel like clothes shopping here is a similar experience to shopping at upscale Ross. You have to pick through the bad stuff to get to the good, especially when it comes to the way the Jeans are laid out. Tons of Jeans on sale, or tons of overpriced Jeans/Pants & just a hodgepodge mix of stuff, where you're unsure what's new and the latest vs what is old and ready to hit the sale rack & much of the clothing is just meh. Not great selections, and many of the styles just seem drab and outdated. Just overall, the selection of clothing, having walked around the entire women's department was very meh. The only departments that seem to be okay are the Men's department, purses & handbags, and makeup & fragrance. The clothing department needs a massive overhaul, & that is typically the main reason why I would head to Macy's. Nordstrom's is such a better shopping experience overall. I know what I'm getting there is of value, and I don't feel like I have to spend hours figuring out what I want. Everything is neat, organized, clean & a great experience. read more

Went to Macy's specifically for home kitchen appliances the other day and I was so happy with the customer service in the home department. I was about to go into a line that had maybe only 3 people in front of me and a floor sales associate brought me to a different register only a few steps away. Because of that, instead of buying just a blender, I ended up buying a juicer, too, because it was just right by the register and I was in a good mood. The only reason I give them one star, other than you can't leave zero stars. Is because my sales rep was nice. I opened a credit line and OMG! The biggest mistake I have made to my credit in years. Not only was I suppose to get 20% off instead I heard nothing from them and got nothing in the mail. However I tried to contact someone to help me, and I got an hour on the phone being transferred to 5 different people. I received late payment charges, a closed account and a drop in my credit score. Fuck you Macy's for your credit card scam. And no follow through. Looks like I'll be cleaning up this mess for the next couple years. Lesson learned read more
