This place sucks and managers seem to not know how to run a store. The customer service experience here is honestly frustrating. The lines can get extremely long, and it feels like there's very little effort to get customers helped in a reasonable amount of time. What makes it worse is that employees from other departments don't seem willing or available to step in and help when customer service gets overwhelmed. It also seems like management is more focused on other things than actually taking care of the customers standing there waiting. At the end of the day, the customers are what keep the store running, so you'd think customer service would be a bigger priority. Hopefully management takes these issues seriously and works on improving the experience. This is my second time because the first was the same and I came today to make a pickup and it was the same as last time and different faces of employees because am for certain that employees quit after finding out what type of poorly managed job they get theirselves into. read more

If you can't scale a broken escalator I'd consider giving this place a miss. Hard to believe that both escalator AND elevator are out of service. When I asked a gentleman at the counter when they would be fixed he replied that he's been calling for some time to get the parts. He told me I could walk up the stationary elevator Herniated discs won't allow me to do that I called Macys corporate to let them know, but with a nine minute estimated wait time, I'll go elsewhere Sorry Macys. I had a very disappointing experience at the Starbucks Macy's location recently. I ordered three banana chocolate breads along with a drink. I didn't double-check my receipt at the time and paid, but when my order was handed to me, there was only one banana bread included. I politely asked the staff member if I had been charged for just one, since I clearly ordered three. Instead of helping, she responded with "What do you mean?" in a rude tone. When I explained again, she insisted that I only ordered one and said it in a dismissive and disrespectful way. I then asked if I could just add two more, and she told me to go back to the line and order again, without offering any assistance or acknowledging the confusion. This interaction felt unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. Customer service should be respectful and helpful, especially when there's a simple misunderstanding. Macy's updated registers require customers to enter their form of payment: cash, Macy's card or credit/debit card before knowing the purchase total. It's rather odd and uncomfortable. The sales person has to ask to begin the transaction "How you gonna pay?" to begin the checkout. If you say you're paying cash, they'll give you a total price, usually with any current discounts, like "Friends and Family", then change your mind and tell them you want to charge or debit instead. This way you know what your total cost is BEFORE you've swiped your card. The clerk will have to cancel the current transaction and rescan your items, but it's all good. Clerks cancel out each other's transactions all the time, pushing each other off registers, part of the fun of a competitive floor. Selling you on the Macy's card is a huge win for a sales clerk. The little speaker in their ear will celebrate to the entire sales team who just "Sold" a customer on a card! (HOORAY!) With a 35-40% interest rate you can see it's a big win for Macy's. I wouldn't doubt it if much of their income is from financing rather than sales. It's a competitive floor throughout with each clerk having daily sales goals. Having to clean dressing rooms or displays and not just stand behind a register puts a clerk at a disadvantage. Most sales people would rather have a long line of customers waiting to check out rather than have a rival clerk help customers. It's why you see employees standing at a register while the store is a messy disaster. read more

Wanted to say this is one of the best locations in the bay area! I have been to many Macys all around and this one is clean and the inventory is amazing. I went in the other day and was helped by a great lady by the name of Alma. She was helpful and had a great spirt about her job and did it with a beautiful smile! I told the retail representative if he could find my size in less than a minute, I'd spend 100's of dollars there. Of course, they couldn't find what I wanted and offered excuses. "Im sorry, people put things back in the wrong order". That part sucks but as a customer, it's not my job to organize your retail items. If you want to spend way too much time going through unorganized retail and you want flimsy excuses, please shop at Macy's! If you want anything resembling customer service, go to an upscale retailer or boutique. I want to shout out an employee specifically: Melissa who was covering the bra section. Even though the powers that be had left her drastically understaffed and this was not her section, she was still treating people with kindness, patience, and helpful information about sales. its really nice to see people treating people well, even when they could probably get away with being short with someone. Did I find a bra? Nope. I'm clueless and she was doing her best outside her usual department, but five stars for her, and four for the store because bra was probably in there somewhere ‍ and parking was easy. read more

It must have something to do with the fact that it is right next to Neiman Marcus ... this Macy's has a nicer selection, is better organized, and has better service than any other Macy's that I have been to in the recent past. I rarely give bad reviews but my goodness this place is depressing. First impression when going inside and glancing around is that they need to innovate pronto. The displays look sad, the products look outdated, there are always a ton of things on sale but in a confusing way and it overall looks disorganized and messy. I'm sure staff is trying their hardest, but besides the cosmetics and perfume area, there just doesn't seem to be a lot of staff around. Nobody is ever there to help out. My main grievance though is that this store makes me feel like an abnormally sized woman. They never seem to have my size. Doesn't matter whether it's a bra, a shirt or a shoe. When you do find something to try on, the hunt for a fitting room that's actually open can take forever. Last time I was there, I got so annoyed I put the stuff it took me 45 minutes to assemble back on the racks, walked out and took my business elsewhere. read more

Please train your employees to take no for an answer. I know they are supposed to offer the Macy's card and try to "sell" the perks of the card. Some of us do not want that card. I told the cashier no but somehow I ended up finding myself applying for a card anyway. I was going to use a gift card because I don't have the money to shop at Macy's and certainly not enough to pay for the items I got. Don't bother calling, no one will help you. I needed a dress in a particular size, the only store in Northern California showing this particular size and style was Stanford Macy's. After going round and round with their call tree, I finally got ahold in someone in a different department who took my name, number, and the SKU for the dress I wanted. He said someone would call me back either way. I received a missed call from Macy's Stanford and, of course, they didn't leave a message. So I called back, spent another 20 minutes trying to get anyone to pick up, finally someone in cosmetics said they would have someone call me back. I really want this dress by this weekend and am willing to make the 3 hour round trip drive, but I don't even know if the dress is really there because no one will help me. read more

I'm surprised by the number of negative reviews of the Macy's store at the Stanford Shopping Center. My experiences have always been fairly good. Whether I am browsing the store or picking up an order placed online, I've never had a particularly bad experience here. The store is clean. The customer service is very good. The location is great. They cancel my order without good notifying me so I'm sitting there waiting on the package to be delivered for 3 days and Macy's never notified me of the situation not even one email they cancel when a customer service could not talk any English he's been too much money at Macy's for them to have doordash delivering shipment that they can't fulfill. Came here yesterday with my brother because we wanted to buy a North Face jacket for my sister. When we got there, we saw the sign and thought we were in the right place. But there were no north face jackets even though the section said north face on the wall. We kept looking around and couldn't find anything. No one was working in the area and one of the makeup people said to reach out to customer service. We went over there and asked the lady and she made a call. She told us someone would meet us over at Juniors to help us. We went over there and waited for a long time and no one showed up so we left and went to Nordstrom for the same item. It's just sad that it's so difficult to find someone who works there to help us. JEWELRY: this is by far the worst store I've been too. Not because of lack in variety but the terrible customer service in this department! I came in with my boyfriend because he gifted me a promise ring for Christmas. The ring that he gave me was a tad big on me so we wanted to see if we could exchange it for another one or have it fixed to fit a size smaller. When we got there, a woman who looked to be in her mid 50's. Caucasian. Short blond hair. Blue eyes. (Forgot to get her name) asked us what we wanted. We told her our situation and she looked at us like she didn't even want to bother to help us. My boyfriend and I are young (in our 20's) but we are very respectful and unproblematic. We didn't say anything to her because at the end of the day we figured she'd make everything happen for us. She continued to take my ring size and when I told her I wanted to try a 6 and a half she said "I know what I'm doing" the whole time she was looking at us with disgust. I don't understand why but we kept being kind to her because I figured she was having a bad day. When she saw the ring she noticed that the tag was off, which was our fault because my boyfriend gifted it to me for Christmas and didn't want me to see the price. We understood that but after she didn't even bother give us any options. She put the ring back and pushed everything with her hand back to us. Again looking us with disgust. My boyfriend offered to buy me another one but at that point I just wanted to get out of there because of her rude mannerism and because of how uncomfortable I felt. When we said thank you she didn't say it back and she looked glad to be getting rid of us. I now see that I should've asked for her supervisor and for her name to leave a complaint because if I'm being honest I felt like she was being racist. There was caucasians there who she was being supper polite to but when she saw us she changed her whole demeanor. Save your money and go to an actual jeweler! The shoe department is not always fully stocked but I've never had any issues with the staff there. The rest of the Macy's clothing sections are moved around every once in a while which can make things confusing but the place is generally pretty clean. Also got an interview suit here with no issues! See photos for a shoe selection. The best part of this Macy's is its location- right next to the cutest shopping stanford mall! Try to find the time to check out the bloomingdales as well, if you have time and the girlfriends to keep you company. The entire place has been totally re-organized as of February 2020 and probably earlier given I haven't been here for a while. The genius move they've done is putting the mens' section next to the apple store, so now it's a much much much shorter walk to get to the mens area from the electronics hub of the stanford mall. Pro-tip is to park in the parking garage across from macy's or terrain cafe- those are the best spots I've ever found! read more

I gave up on the shirt because of course no one is working at mens so I went to the cosmetics department and it was very hard to find staffing there to. I actually did pick out some clothes and went to cosmetics department to see if I can ring up but they also told me to go back to the clothing area to get ringed up. I remembered not long ago there used to be a lot of really good people that worked at the store. People who cares and did good customer service. The store kinda reminds me of a Ross store now and probably I would rather shop at Ross than Macys Stanford now. This Macy's feels very disorganized. The clearance racks are not sorted by any size or brand, really, so it's definitely a daunting task to find items. Also, a lot of the coupons that you receive in the mail don't even work with half of the brands or half of the other sales in the store, so it feels like you can't use coupons half the time. I recently went with the boyfriend's mother, and she picked out a cute shirt from a rack that said $12.99. At the cash register, it rang up as $17. She tried to explain that the shirt was from a rack labeled $12.99 but the cashier was insistent that she couldn't change the price because that's what the system said. I was curious, so afterwards we walked back to the rack and sure enough there were dozens of the same shirt under a big $12.99 sign. That was a definite sign that the price was wrong, so we went back and complained again, and showed them the rack. We finally got the advertised price, but honestly, the cashier should have just gone to check out the rack or given the discount in the first place. read more

I walked into Macy's because I wanted to buy a foundation and get the free makeup gift with purchase advertised for Estee Lauder. After waiting over a half an hour for someone.... anyone to show up at this counter and help, I was treated extremely rudely and unprofessionally by a lady named Renee who claimed she was a manager in this store. Renee was not only extremely lazy, and unwilling to help in any way shape or form, but she was also a liar and very condescending. I explained I was there to buy a foundation, but since the price of this item was *literally* a couple bucks less than what was required to get the gift, she flat out refused to give it...even though I had been there waiting for at least 45 minutes by this time. Zero customer service on her part. Okay...whatever. I asked her to help me find something else to add to my purchase. A perfume maybe? She condescendingly started quoting prices (off the top of her head) as if I couldn't afford them...WTF? "Oh, that ones at least $65....that one is over $90!!" Very dismissive and rude. I asked for help with finding a cleanser and or toner, and even though there are cotton balls and tissues throughout the counter for people to try on their products, she refused to help me try anything on. Her answer for everything was "they don't have that here." All I had to do was look and they had full stock of cotton balls to try things on!! When I finally found something, she opened up a drawer, said they were out. I guess this means tough luck? No help or solutions from her. I asked her if she could call another Macy's and find out if they have the particular items I was asking for and her answer to me was "You can call them yourself, we can't call from the store!" What a LIAR. Associates have called store to store for years in order to find things!! ....Mind you, this store was not at all busy in the middle of a Wednesday. She could easily have helped! WOW. So this is the type of personality Macy's hires to help with customers? THIS is the type of nasty personality they unleash on their customers who spend freaking thousands of dollars a year in their stores?? Just GROSS. I walked out without buying any makeup, upset and fuming with anger over being treated so shabby. When I got to my car I decided to turn right around and ask for the store manager and I did let the guy know exactly how rude Renee was. He made things right by selling me the foundation I had actually come in for and giving me the gift with purchase and a discount and I do appreciate his help. However, this whole event was so incredibly stressful and upsetting, and just left a really bitter taste in my mouth for this store. read more

Review for Mens store only: This Macys has slightly better selection than some of the other Macys in less affluent neighborhoods. Inside is sort of older and comfortable. Its not modern and stuffy and cold like Bloomingdales nearby. Most probably don't like the old look but I'm not most people. There are not too may people in the store but sure enough when you get to checking out if you are anything like me you've got a person in front of you with some isssue that takes extra time.
