Bought over $6,000 of furniture. Missing two electrical connectors and a cord. Talked to the salesman Aaron twice and the department manager Erika twice over the last week. All promised action and that customer service would be calling.....still nothing. Guess I'll call the credit card company and cancel payment next. Update, after our 7th call we got a call back! Got some levi jeans. Thought they would fit nicely because they were this "new" stretch style. They didn't fit as expected, I tried to exchange for one that fit to my expectations. I grabbed the ones I liked and tried to exchange at this location. FAYE was my representative that was helping me out initially. She claimed she could not do a return because the jeans had all the tags torn off, I explained I had no intention of exchanging the jeans and figured they would fit so I tore off the tags. I brought original receipt and original tags with me. She still said she could not process an exchange. She then points out the jeans have been worn. I said no I've only tried them on. She proceeds to invite another representative named NICK. NICK examines the jeans then proceeds to smell them. YES, smell them. I felt extremely violated. I just said I tried them on and he smelled them. Imagine if a woman came by to exchange items with him. I've never had an issue exchanging something within a few days of purchase until now. It's shocking how MACYS, a major department store, trains representatives to behave inappropriately with guests. I will never shop at MACYS again. read more

The most awful customer service I've received lately! My daughter purchased a Fitbit and was told that it would be eligible for return within 30 days. The watch was opened and put on in the store and we were clearly told that we could return it. As many pre-teens change their mind when the rush of something new cools off she of course changed her mind, now trying to return it we are first told that it's open and they won't take it back, then when I say that it was opened and put on in the store and we were still told that it would be eligible for return they change their story to it can't be worn, to which I again tell them that it was put on in the store and she walked out wearing it. They are still refusing to work out the situation! This is beyond ridiculous, they are clearly contradicting everything that we were told previously. Finally 2 managers later and a call to the store where it was originally purchased we received our refund. I wasted over 40 minutes of my life on something that should've taken 5. I don't think we will be visiting this location ever again. read more

Tried to exchange MAC lipstick that I was given as a gift that I had tried a few times and just wasn't comfortable with the hue. The manager said no returns at all on makeup that is used. When I showed him the return policy for cosmetics allows for returns on gently used items, he told me he could not resell it and therefore I could not exchange it for a color that I liked. This policy allows for zero purchases where you aren't 100% sure you will love the item. Sticking with Nordstrom and sephora from now on where I spend handsomely and they have outstanding customer service. read more

The store management could use a reality​ check. I've been in this store on several occasions in the last year. It always looks messy, nothing is properly displayed. I've left the store with anti theft devices still attached to the garment I purchased and had to make a trip back to have it removed. Today was a turning point for me. I had purchased pants prior to Christmas, but after the holiday decided to return them. I follow no less than 3 signs to a register marked return items here. There is an employee shuffling around, does not acknowledge me so I say hello, I'd like to return this. She looks up from what she is making herself busy doing and tells me the register is closed and I have to go to another register. Great thanks for all the signs that told me to come specifically to this station. Given this place always looks like a dump, the customer service is awful, and the parking situation is in bad shape, probably won't come back here. I've wasted enough time here for mediocre service. read more

I love Macy's, and shopping in their stores can be easier than online since there are almost *too* many options on their website (yes, there is such a thing!). We came here on a very specific mission- to find a teal tie. Fortunately, they had basically any color we could've been looking for, and got exactly what we came for. The store was fairly busy but there were plenty of people working; we were greeted by a nice woman folding shirts, and didn't have to wait long in line. If I had less self control I probably would have ended up spending a small fortune on jewelry on my way out (so. many. options.), but I'll save that for another trip. read more

True confessions first - I have had a chip on my shoulder about Macy's since they bought Marshall Fields in Chicago and changed the State Street store into a Macy's. Sacrilege, took a Chicago landmark and assumed everyone would bow to the New York name. After a few years I wandered back in and saw that this was no Marshall Fields - this is maybe Sears. Oh well, let it go. Flash forward to recent vacation when I am ill prepared for the whale watch - I need something to wear under my jacket plus I only have sandals with me. My choices at the mall near our hotel were Sears, Macy's and Nordstrom. Macy's seemed like the middle of the road so we went there. I was looking at shoes first in probably the messiest and most disorganized shoe department I have ever had the misfortune to experience in my life. I picked up an athletic type shoe and asked the clerk if they had it or anything similar in a ten. She was gone quite a while and came back and said, no, the largest we have is a n 8.5. I said no tens in anything similar? She sniffed at me, we don't have them that large. I then asked a clerk in the ladies department if she could direct me to the Women's department. She curled her lip and me and said, we don't carry clothing in that size. I walked out in tears. Forget you, Macy's. I will never step foot in another Macy's anywhere. Ever. I should have stuck with my irrational grudge. Well, at least now I have one based on what you are instead of who you replaced. read more

Went into Macy's yesterday and was shocked at all the bedding, comforters, sheets and bedroom sets they have! Taj is AMAZING and amazing is probably an understatement to be honest. Not sure what we really wanted to buy except that we need a new comforter and he was kind enough to show us everything they had. He really listened and cared about what we wanted and we ended up buying a goose down comforter along with a cover and pillow set. I honestly never thought of Macy's as having a good selection of bedding, but I was completely wrong! They have something for just about everyone and Taj really cared about us being happy with our purchase. If you need a new bedroom set, bedding, sheets, etc.... Macy's will have it and if Taj helps you you'll be more than satisfied. I can't thank Taj enough!! read more

*** SECURITY ISSUE *** Yesterday I received an email about some items on sale at Macy's and they happened to be some items that I needed so I went ahead and purchased the items online. The online transaction was for the most part flawless. I had to reload the site a few times but the savings were great. I selected this store to pick-up versus having them mail the items. Macy's is located in a fairly large mall with easy access from two freeways. The parking is adequate and there are plenty of stores for other shopping. The pick-up for online shopping is on the second floor and very easy to find. When I got to the counter and told the lady I was here to pick-up something I paid for online, she told me to wait a minute while she continued tagging some clothing items. Okay, no big deal. She went and got my items and everything was going well. Then it turns bad; she asked to see the receipt for the purchased items and I showed her the receipt on my phone. She scanned the receipt and it came up on her computer. She asked to see my drivers license which I had and showed her. Then she told me she had to put my drivers license number in the computer and I told her I didn't want her to do that. She insisted that she had to do it and I insisted that she didn't. It seemed ridiculous and unnecessary since she was able to verify the purchase on my phone with the electronic receipt. The computer even had my name and address which match my drivers license not to mention my photo on the drivers license. I then asked if I were purchasing an item would they even look at my ID let alone put the drivers licence number in their computer? I even had the credit card I used to charge online but that wasn't enough. Finally, she agreed to put in a fictitious drivers license number.... and low and behold, the computer took that information and everything was okay. So tell me, if you can put in a false drivers license number, WHY do you need to put in my drivers license number at all? When paying by credit card IN the store, sometimes they do ask to see ID and all they do is look at it; they don't put the information from the drivers license in the computer. Again, she put in a fake drivers license number so why do you need to put it in at all? These days there is so much identity theft and much of that comes from stores allowing their information to be compromised to thieves. There is NO reason for Macy's to have my drivers license number EVER! All she needed to do is look at my drivers license and verify I am the person who made the purchase. She could have compared the name on the drivers license with the name on the credit card I used to make the purchase. But I will NEVER give you my drivers license number or my social security number. Making a purchase online shouldn't be any different than a purchase in the store and you would NEVER take my drivers license number for an in store purchase. Funny, if I had opted to have the item shipped to me, no one would have even seen my drivers license. Why are you unnecessarily taking my private information? I would have given one star, but I do like Macy's items. However, there are many other great stores in San Diego that carry the same items and no to mention, any other store that I want to order from online. Can't imagine I will ever use Macy's again until they change their policy on this. read more

I like Macy's, the coupons I get in the mail and the high quality clothes I get on sale with the coupons (yes, I am cheap). This Macy's is OK, I don't like the old and mysterious escalators that are hard to find and super narrow, not my favorite architectural feature. This Macy's also has that get you lost navigation. I guess its just really old, the wood flooring circa 1977, the narrow escalator's...did I mention my claustrophobia? The saving grace is the awesome area with the kitchen gadgets. read more

I came at 7:30pm on a week night, and it was as if the entire store was already closed (they close at 9pm) because the workers were nowhere to be found. It was like I was losing in a game of hide and go seek because I couldn't find anyone. I wanted to ask for a stock check, but there was only one worker on the third floor, and the line at her check out desk was ridiculous. My friend wanted to purchase an item and the same worker told us we could go to any desk so we went down to the second floor...no signs of a worker. We proceeded to the first floor and there was a very friendly worker in the MAC section, but she was occupied with a customer. We waited...waited some more then another worker asked if we needed assistance. When we said we were waiting to pay, she turned and left. Later, the MAC worker felt horrible for keeping us waiting and asked if anyone helped us. We said no. The previous worker came back and rudely said, "I just asked if you needed assistance! You can pay here." We told her earlier we were waiting to pay and she turned around and walked away??? I love Macy's, but this location certainly lacks customer service. It took us 40 minutes to make a purchase. The store itself is spacious snd well organized, but they could definitely improve in the staff department. read more

This is Macys sucks. There is no method of organization in the clothes, the store is understaffed, and the clothes look both cheap and several seasons old. The dressing rooms almost always have other people's clothes in them, and there are close to no sales attendants around. There are clothes on the floor around racks and they usually don't have sizes below a medium. Go to Nordstrom or Bloomingdales if you actually want to be able to buy clothes. read more

I have been in other Macy's and the purse dept does not compare to the one at UTC! Wholly Purseville! The ladies who work in this dept. are so nice and helpful! I couldn't make up my mind what purse I wanted...no pressure but did check on me to see if I wanted to compare bags. Of course all the good bags are security tied down. After 30 minutes in the dept I made a decision but told the sales girl that my purse was not going into a plastic Macy's bag & it better be in a nice shopper bag. She went out her way got me one plus my purse was missing the dust cover; needless to say she brought me out one that fit my bag. Very Nice Macy's! read more

This is my favorite Macy's out of all the one's I've been to. I don't even live in San Diego anymore, I just grew up there, but I come here with my mother when I'm in town. They just have so many great clothes, makeup, handbags, shoes, housewares and so much good stuff. Sure, it's a little bit messy and you have to spend a few hours digging through it an trying on a bunch of stuff but that's fun. This Macy's store is located in a very pretty shopping mall. Unfortunately the woman department (2nd floor is an absolute mess). Specially if there is any sale happening. The benches near the fitting rooms are used to pile unsorted clothes. This seems to be routine practice here so don't be surprise if you can't find the size you want. The staff will recommend you to order it online. If you complain you'll hear that they are doing their best! I have shopped at many Macy's stores all over the country and I used to love shopping at Macy's - not any more since I moved to San Diego. read more

I went into macys earlier today to do some Christmas shopping. I was looking for lipsticks at MAC, only to find out later that one lady was working on her own (unfortunately I didn't get her name) while her coworker was on a lunch break. With the holidays, it was really busy but she was still able to help my sister and I try on lipsticks and get the products as well. Afterwards, my sister and I found out if we spend $50 we would get a $10 macys card. The lady allowed us to "return" the lipsticks and buy more to equal over $50 so we could get the card. Through it all, she had such a great attitude, was in the process of giving a customer a makeover and was still super helpful to other customers who were looking for makeup!!! #wonderwoman, I'm tellin' yah! I also had to order a men's vest in-store but online since there were no more stock in CA. I never heard of such thing but that's what an employee told me over a phone call. So I went to the suit dept and I'm pretty sure I was super confusing trying to explain what I had learned over the phone. The guy who was helping me was Sergio (I think) but he was definetly helpful and patient with me! Especially since I know close to nothing about buying anything related to suits! Overall, the employees at macys were surprisingly really helpful! You'd think the holidays and extra customers would put on extra stress on employees but they were amazing and made my shopping that much more easier! Loved it! read more

I like this Macy's better than the one in Escondido and Fashion Valley. They are less pretentious here and actually interested in helping you. The shoe department is well organized and there is always a sale. I practically live at this Macy's. I have the Macy's credit card, and they send me coupons by the bushel. My Macy's coupons sing their siren songs to me, and every time I feel irresistibly compelled to go and shop for things that I don't need, can't afford, but are still fabulous. The UTC Macy's is my favorite because it's closest to my house and is very unpopular. Therefore, it's always uncrowded and has plenty of convenient parking. There is never a wait for the dressing rooms (unlike Fashion Valley). The workers are largely a frumpy, bedraggled bunch, and I have been greatly amused by their personal oddities over the years. My favorite worker is Meling in Misses Petites. I made her smile and laugh when I said a silly comment yesterday, and I was so astonished by my accomplishment that I felt like I had won the lottery; I didn't know it was possible for her to smile or laugh. The second runner up is Edith in Petites. She takes so long to ring me up that I could literally walk across the street to PF Chang's, have lunch, come back, and she still wouldn't be finished. Plus, Edith once left a security tag on a garment that I purchased, and all of my stuff had to be gone through to make sure I wasn't stealing. I told the workers who searched my bags that I wanted to complain to a manager about Edith for causing me this inconvenience. They protested my request and protected Edith like a pack of wolves. They made me feel guilty for not pitying Edith because she is so decrepit. I guess it's a positive thing that UTC Macy's is loyal to their idiosyncratic employees. read more

Omg, I had a pretty annoying experience. I don't wanna get anyone fired though, but - I'll call her S - from the jewelry department gave me a terrible experience. As I was ready to check out, she asked me if I wanted to sign up for a Macy's card and I said really politely, "Oh, no thank you." Well. She apparently heard "Yes, please" as she proceeded to get my birthday, address, telephone number, etc. It didn't even cross my mind that I was actually being signed up for a card - because I clearly said "no." After I said I didn't want to share my phone number, she gives me AT-TI-TUDE and was like "WELL YOU NEED A PHONE NUMBER." And I said why do you NEED my number? ... then I found out I would've gotten a Macy's card because this woman either a) chose to ignore our entire conversation or b) can't hear very well. She did an awesome job in shaping my eye brows and putting lashes on me. I will not go anywhere else for my brow and eye lashes!! It's hard to find someone that you trust to shape your eye brows and apply eye lashes. I think the brow bar is reasonabley priced and I always leave after seeing Bella with a smile on my face :) Also if you need a good make-up artist Peaches at the Benefits counter at UTC is the bomb! She too is also very sweet like Bella and truely knows what she is doing!! Every event I have or just for fun she always makes my eyes pop and people always comment on how good my make-up looks!! I never have to worry that my make-up will look too caked on or not enough she always applies it just right! I had the most wonderful experience with one of the employees, Vahid. I was having difficulty finding a pair of jeans to make a size exchange for my brother. This was the second store I had gone to with previously checking and knowing that there should have been 2 pairs of jeans in my brother's size. I had called ahead to put one of the pairs on hold. When I got to the location later that day, I went to the men's department where I thought they would be on hold and Vahid was behind the counter ready to help me. He searched his area and they weren't there, so he searched all the other registers as well as the online orders pick up area. With no luck, he took me to the area where the jeans were supposed to be displayed and we looked for the correct pair and size I needed there. When he couldn't find them there, he looked through the stock room for me, also with no luck. I felt like most people would have just given up at this point. Knowing that I just drove an hour in traffic to get to this location, he went above and beyond for me and pulled out the item gun that can locate bar codes and went through everything we just searched again and found the exact pair of jeans in the correct size I was needing in the stock room. This entire search process took 45 minutes but I have never been more impressed and appreciative of an employee ever in my life before. I really couldn't thank him enough. It's service like this that continues to keep me coming back and staying loyal to Macy's. read more

It is literally impossible to get help in Macy's. Employees go out of their way to not help you, which is extremely frustrating. The sales are good, but the women's clothing section is absolutely terrible. The plus side is that the men's clothing section is much better, and the women's shoes section has good things. Came in yesterday to get a graduation gift for my little bro, and the experience was great. Walked in, asked where the tie clips were and off to hunting I went. They asked if I needed assistance and the girls gave me the low down on which ones they would prefer to see their men wear (come on we know it's the lady's opinion that matters). I'm a tie clip amateur so I had to ask about the proper way to wear one, but the girls didn't really know. That's my only complaint, that they had girls working the men's section. But it wasn't a huge problem I just walked to a different department and got my questions answered there. I have never had a good experience at the jewelry section here out of numerous attempts. The other staff in the clothing, shoe, and cosmetics departments are very friendly and helpful. I have tried to purchase jewelry several times, including today. Either I have to work hard to get someone's attention or the jewelry staff seem judgmental like they are too good to serve me. One woman today had a miserable, dismissive attitude toward me and showed no interest in making a sale. She looked at me like she was disgusted that I asked to see a ring. I was planning on spending $400-500. I find these reactions to be odd because I have a very neat, clean appearance and am polite. It must be my age; they must assume I am younger than my actual age and can't afford it, which is far from the truth. I am not going to try to buy jewelry here anymore. read more

Macy's customer service really depends on which department you're browsing in. I get prompt service when shopping for accessories/arm candy. I get fantastic service at the makeup/fragrance area. There are young and trendy artists that work near the makeup. It's been some time since I stepped into a Macy's. I saw that they now carry MAC and I felt that it was only appropriate I use all my Macy's gift cards [I hoarded throughout the years] on some quality makeup. In the men's department, my husband waited at one of the registers as a sales associate was just a few feet folding clothes. He saw us and didn't even walk up to us. He helped out another gentleman after we gave up and started looking at some clothes. When we saw that he was now at the register, we returned only to have him tell us to go to another register to be helped, "so you don't have to wait." Honestly, you spend most of your time at Macy's, (ANY department store, really), WAITING! The sales associate that later helped us was an older gentleman and was very kind. Macy's has terrific sales, but you really need to prep for it. They have coupons out before their big one-day sales, usually for an additional $10 off. Overall, I find Macy's to be a great department store to shop at. The mall is an overwhelming experience for some, (not to mention a money and soul-sucking experience), so having big department stores with everything under 1 roof helps ease the whole task of finding a new outfits/arm-candy/shoes. PS, Parking is always going to be a pain in the A$$ to find here. read more

Terrible terrible customer service. Not so much in rude or annoying but lack of experience or knowledge of problem solving. This goes for their phone service and in store service. First stop outsourcing your CS department. Especially when it comes to billing inquiries. Number one rule is good communication between agent and customer. If the customer can't understand the agent then that agent needs to be moved to a none speaking job. Period. Secondly teach everyone the one correct way to do something. I talked to 5 people who all had their own way of attempting to solve my issue. If the person you are connecting me with has no clue or can not help me with the specific problem then don't be an idiot and pass me off to them. Third if you do have to pass me off to someone at least be nice enough to explain the issue to that person so I don't have to spend 15 minutes explaining the entire problem for the 5th time! Finally if the last person I talked to can solve the issue in less than 5 minutes obviously the last 4 people I talked to (including the UTC Store Manager) have no clue what to do and should not be working there in the first place. Or send them back for training. Macy's... seriously get your head out of your asses and get your CS team in gear. Or at least create a dedicated office where people can get issues resolved without having to deal with regular customer purchases. The customer service you have is nothing more than a cash register with employees who act as if they can help solve issues when in reality they can't.
