Worst Macy's ever. Period. It's a busy Saturday afternoon before Easter and the salespeople who are the most unhelpful ever start to close the dressing room in the lingerie department at 4:00 pm while six women are trying on items. What?!! The store closes at 9:00 pm. That's a zero on work ethic. Lazy!!!! This store should be CLOSED. Permanently. I personally worked at a Macy's when I was in HS in Monterey so this behavior is especially shocking to me. Back then the customer came first. I live in this area and I have always shopped here. Today I came in and I saw the best professionalism I have seen. One woman was complaining about the customer servicee and the manager there kept assuring her they don't want to ever make their customers feel uncomforatble or not cared for. And one employee was disrespected by a customer. She tried to tell the customer she didn't know about something and the customer stormed offs hen she tried to explain and the customer didn't even turn tO look at her and just "yeah it's obvious you don't know anything" this employee also has a lanGuage barrier and it's obvious the customer didn't consider it. But thank you Macy's hiring very professional staff these never snapped at the customers they had they alwAys smiled and even though it was obvious they didn't lien being treated horribly they just took it. read more

I bought a men's Tommy Hilfiger blue suit last week. Realized it was too light and returned it, in excellent condition.. The manager, was rude, condescending and unprofessional, and made the return much harder than it had to be. Consistently said No, until started reading the "Easy Return" policy, where it basically said a receipt and one year, no problem. Needless drama. That was probably my last time in there. read more

It's an exciting time when you and your partner are going to a store to buy a wedding ring . to be met with a complete lack of friendliness and in fact thoughtless incompetence made the whole experience pretty depressing . we tried to open another account there because they said after a year our Macy's card was invalid, the machine asked for complete Social Security numbers, income, rent and way too much personal information. we both became increasingly uncomfortable with the whole situation but ordered the ring anyway. a few days later I called to check on delivery date and they said it had been cancelled without notifying me, due to some answer on our personal information put into the machine. I asked how someone with a credit score over 800 and a $29,000 credit limit on that Visa could be denied to order something, The order cancelled without any notification, when I paid for it right then with my Visa. After literally half an hour of being transferred around, the credit department finally re-ordered the ring for me . I have received no notification of that And have no idea if it is actually going to happen. we had planned on buying a new bed there also, but will not support Macy's again and will purchase the bed elsewhere. Let me first say-- I worked at this location for a few months this past spring. And the damn store sucks. Customers and long-time employee's can go on and on about how much better this location was *before* it switched to Macy's..Apparently Robinson's-May had their shit together, treated employee's better (and with a better employee discount). Noticeably-- I worked in the cosmetics area and we were always low or out of stock. It pisses me off (When a customer wanted something and we didn't have it), and it pissed the customers off. Macy's is a big fucking mess. Also-- during my first few interviews, they were always late. My wife and I were shopping for a iBed and found the staff at Macy's upper State St. very helpful. They were professional and truly concerned with saving us the most money while making sure we had a quality product. Tim and Paula have excellent customer service. It's hard to find well dressed people these days and Tim was exemplary in this regard. They even helped us move the bed to my truck on the carts, amazing. I purchased an extra firm $3000.00 Beautyrest mattress, box spring and frame from Macy's. In less than two years, it sagged in the middle and is torture to sleep on. I came into this store to get a few of my watch links taken off (which I've done at this location in the past) and Mila at the Macy's & Co jewelry counter after paying no attention to me finally turns her head without turning her full body towards me and says "we don't do that it's a liability" I then explained I've done it at this location once before and she then proceeds to turn her face back around and assist someone else without any further help or explanation. I understand what she was meant, however, if she had a better attitude it wouldn't have made the experience so listless. read more

We asked many workers if we could check out at their counter, butthey said no many times because it wasn't there department, and they wouldn't call anyone to come help us. I needed a business jacket for a business meeting. They had an 18 year old with no experience of knowledge working the department. Too busy to help, yet I was the only shopper. Went to another area that had some sport coats I was second in line. When I was up, the cashier walked away and started rummaging though clothes to be put away. I was planning on spending $200 to $300 for a coat.. A quick sale. But either my skin color or the snobbery of this place prevent me from getting a coat... wtf. This store is the most unprofessional store I have EVER been in! I was in looking for a pair of black jeans. I couldn't find my size so I went up to the nearest employee that was at the register, sitting on the counter talking to another employee with her back to me. I said excuse me, the young girl, without turning around said "This register is closed!". I said I am just looking for a size of Levi's, she just said "what ever is out is all we have!", again without even turning around! I went to find a Manager to hand him/her my Macys charge card to close my account, but could never find anyone. I will never go into this store again. read more

If I could give zero stars for Monday's visit, I would! I love this store. I shop this store weekly ( I have problems) however Monday's visit was awful! I don't know if she is seasonal help or a long time employee. I would hope seasonal if not Macy's do a better job with screening! Older lady upstairs in woman's dept named Patricia was awful. I put down the clothes I had and left! They had 40% off and an additional 30%for friends and family. The previous employee was helpful and gave me the price of my items. However I wasn't so lucky with Patricia. She basically looked at me like I was stupid. And was confused why I wanted to know a price. She then looked at the tag, and read me the price on the tag!! I explained I wanted to know the price with the discounts. She asked "why" ?! She then told me she doesn't know how and told me to go ask someone else. Mind you she was behind the counter! Macys you need to do better. Get mystery shoppers and see how your employees are. Especially Patricia! They started renovations but they need an overhaul on employees. read more

I went here again recently to try and pick up some basics. I went to the Clarins counter again (I don't know why I bother) and they have about 10% of their products in stock. I don't understand what is up with this. Either the counter or store manager doesn't order enough or the company just flat out refuses to ship orders to this sad store. Either way, I have given up. The last four times (over the course of about 2 years) that I have tried to purchase items from this counter, they are out. And not just like, temporarily out, but indefinitely out. They didn't even offer to order it online and ship it to me for free like most stores would for out of stock products. Fair enough because I don't really want to wait 1-2 weeks for my lip balm. I'll just go to Nordstrom or order via a store online that doesn't take so long. I also tried to get some socks and underwear. Nope. All out of my size. How can you be out of SOCKS? I just wanted basic no-show athletic socks. What clothing and accessories this store does stock are literally strewn all over the place, including on the floor. How can we live in a city with such wealth and style and have THIS for our non-tourist locale Macys? read more

This is a pretty dumpy Macy's. You can tell it's old and hasn't been updated in a long time. Probably hasn't been cleaned in a long time, too. The first floor is very crowded and pretty hard to navigate; they really try and pile as much as they can in the store. Today I went to the lingerie department to buy some bras and everything was surprisingly organized. Went to the fitting room, but all the fitting rooms had no locks on them! Had to go to another fitting room across the way. I agree with other reviews that the fitting rooms are pretty gross. Anyway, I was overall happy with my purchase because the items I got were on sale and their prices matched the prices online. But I don't think I will be returning anytime soon. read more

This evening I needed to get a gift for a friend for her bridal shower tomorrow (last minute... I know). I went to the kitchen area and couldn't find a couple items on her registry. It took a little while to get someone to come help from another department since nobody was there from that department. One lady came and looked up a few items and said that they didn't have the items in Santa Barbara but Thousand Oaks did so I could just get them tomorrow morning... when I asked her what time they opened she didn't give me an answer except that they probably either open at 9 or 10. I told her I may need to find another item since that may not be enough time in the morning because the shower is at noon. Her response was, "what time did you think they opened, 8?" Rude, but okay. Service was not impressive so far but I was also being helped by someone from another department. Then JESSICA came to help and literally turned around my situation so quickly. She searched a few more items on the registry and they didn't have them in stock but was happy to search as many items as I liked. We did find an item in their computer system and she searched in a couple different areas then finally found the item in the stock room. Her attitude was so positive and I hope that she is recognize for being able to turn my day around. The gift that the location ended up actually having but her service and professionalism are outstanding. read more

Department stores usually have not so great workers and terrible customer service. This Macy's however doesn't. I had a problem with the pricing on one of the items I bought from a Macy's department back home and apparently I pretty much got screwed over by a new worker. Coming here as it's pretty much now the only Macy's in SB, I thought and was expecting terrible service and may be even get flack for trying to return an item I bought online and not get my issue figured out with the pricing. I was quickly helped by the manager/worker named Veronica here and she was super helpful and didn't seem annoyed with my issue. I explained to her what happened with my purchase at my local Macy's back home and she was more than understanding and willing to help me out with these pair of slacks I bought. She was patient with me and didn't try to shoo me away to get to the next customer and I really appreciated that. In the end I got my issue resolved all thanks to her. Thanks Veronica! read more

i had the worst experience with the blond pixi cut haired girl who works in the juniors department. she gave major attitude because of a return..? and said she couldnt order something from instore.. i know other macys employees have ordered instore before and shipped it. who know maybe things did change but was the sour attitude that came out of her needed? its like she was turning into something demonic. i was having a wonderful day until i saw satan embody himself in a macys. anyways it okay because i just want to burst into laughter it people like this. next time ill have to bring my holy water read more

Worst store I have ever been in. 1st time in, My wife and I went in for some shoes and clothes. We had some coupons we received in mail. Girl behind counter was very un helpful and they had nothing in stock. I finally found a pair they had. Girl disappeared and myself and 4 other customers wanted to pay and couldn't find anyone. We had to walk around the store just trying to find a cashier to pay. In men's department cashier calls manager to ask about our coupons. Last time we were in we spent $400 on a suit and other items. After 15 min manager women comes over looks at coupons doesn't acknowledge us or even say hi. Just says no and walks away very rudely. Cashier was nice and apologized for her behavior. 2nd time we went in for a magic bullet and had the same experience. Ready to buy!! No prices on items can find anyone to help, customer's upset everywhere looking for someone. We find someone and they can't sell us anything they have no knowledge we leave. I have been in retail management for 25 years this place seems to be on thin ice near closing if they don't change. read more

What a dump!!! I'm in the store right nown and it's awful. I wanted to print out a registry but the kiosk wasn't working. So I had to wait in line for a sales person to help. The one guy I went to didn't know how to do it, so another guy did, while texting on his phone. Then there aren't workers roaming the floors, so I'm back in line waiting for someone to help me find the items I want to buy (after going to a diffferent line where a rude lady said she couldn't help me). I'm sooo annoyed and I still have to find the item to buy and wait in line again to purchase the darn item. So annoyed, I'll going to snap. read more

when I was a teenager and this store was Robinson's I would find too many clothes I liked. I can't say that now, in fact I rarely find anything I like. They seriously need a new buyer---aren't the nearly empty store and massive clearance racks a hint?? I realize they have to cater to every kind of genre but they've left out the California hippy-surfer style that I like. And then some plain mix and match junior clothing would be nice. I have to say that they do have American Rag which almost foots the bill but most of the choices have bizarre features. So I've about given up on them now that we have H&M and Forever 21--still they lack the basics I desire too. :( . read more

I had never seem a Macys so empty. We parked on the first level and there were only about 4 cars in the parking lot. When you walk in the store had an awful smell. We went to the mens department and was approached by one associate. We went on to look for a shirt. Went to dress shirts and the associate was organizing the clearance table. We finally decided on a shirt and I had to ask an associate to ring us up. The service was terrible and there nothing worth keeping the store open. read more
