Absolute worst customer support I have ever dealt with. Bought a couch and a mattress from Diane at the Woodfield location who was fantastic. After we left the store it's been an absolute nightmare. The couch was a 2 piece sectional and the day before delivery they told us the mattress would actually show up 2 days late. Not a huge deal. The delivery for the couch came and they sent 2 of the same pieces of the couch and said I would have to set up a new delivery date. No one from Macys contacted me for 3 days like they said they would. I called got a new date set up. The next delivery date they showed up 2 hours later than the delivery window they gave me and I left for work. Again no one from Macys contacted me. I set up a 3rd delivery date for this morning. They showed up and sent me the same piece of the couch that they sent the first time. I now have to set up a 4th delivery date for a 2 piece couch and not one person from customer support has done anything to make this right or try to help the situation. Highly recommend going elsewhere if you are getting something delivered. read more

I purchased a pair of boots from Macys.com back in December 2023. When I placed the order, the return date said Feb 26th 2024. I went today February 17th 2024 return the item at the store at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL. The customer service told me that I was over my return date because it was a marketplace item. What is that?!? They explained to me that they have 3 party vendors who sell items on their site. Not one place did it tell me that it was a marketplace item when I purchased the boots. Customer service told me to call the Macys.com customer service line to speak with someone to get my return. I spoke with the first agent, who was very helpful (Jared). He explained once he transfers me to the marketplace CS that they will be able to override & do the return. However, when I got to the marketplace CS, they explained there was no way. Well I explained to them that I was now told 3 different return dates every time I log in, so there is a glitch & I demanded a return. They said there was nothing they can do. I asked for a Supervisor. This Supervisor had me on hold for almost 45 mins! And it hung up on me! The Supervisor never came to the phone How is that customer service for you?! What bs! I WILL NEVER shop at Macy's or Macys.com ever again. Needless to say, I had to call back & waste another hour for a $41 return. read more

Went to Macy's at Woodfield Mall and stopped at the shoe department last night. Only one person working in the entire shoe department. Poor Lilian had a line of 30 people to service.... meaning to check for size availability, get the shoes from the back and to ring everyone up. Don't know who plans staffing, but you'd think they'd have at least one person to get customers the shoes and another to ring them up. If no one is available to get shoes from the back, how does Macy's plan on selling them?! Really makes me wonder how much longer they'll be around for. This is like a flagship store. It's the largest in the area, so any time I have to buy an outfit for an "event" or what not, I tend to come here instead of hitting my local mall. It's HUGE. 3 floors of beautiful sparkly things. There are things that this store needs to work on: staff. I've been here several time in the woman's dress area, and the staff is lazy. The dressing rooms are disgustingly messy, and then you go to the register and there's a couple of teenage/young 20's just sitting there chit-chatting... it's like GET TO WORK. One of my (many) pet peeves is a messy fitting room. I think it also needs a bit of a face-lift. It's getting a bit old. Bathrooms, etc.. Other than that - FABULOUS Macy's store. Huge selection, large floorplan, excellent makeup department. And on and on. read more

Store Review: Surprising! I didn't realize that customer service was so bad here, I guess I have never depended on the employees at this store. For all the good deals, I would give it a 4 star, but I will have to check out the staff next time I go. This location is stocked with a wide selection of merchandise, significantly more than Stratford Mall which is closer to my home. There is quite a selection of men, women, and home goods which is perfect when there is a sale. Coupled with a wow pass and you can make off with bargain prices. Pros- large inventory and store Cons- i guess the staff, but I have only dealt with the cashiers who seem competent except for the time I tried to ask for a gift receipt on a item I just bought and they indicated I could not do it unless i returned and rebought the item..... I have to be honest here, i have not been into a Macys since they bought Marshall Fields several years ago. Marshall Fields has been a Chicago institution for years. It was a departments store extraordinaire. May it rest in peace. But, the experience in Macy's was not too bad. Lots of brands, well stocked, good prices. While i walked out without actually buying anything, it was a pretty good experience. I think I'm over my "Macy's Phobia" and will return when I need something. The only good thing about this Macy's is their new "stories" section and their cosmetics department. My sister and I both went in to buy some things (prom shoes for her and a work outfit for me). Unfortunately, the place was an utter mess. The shoes were completely disorganized and all faced in one direction, so it only looked good if you stood at a specific angle. I liked the items in the inc collection, but I couldn't find anything in my size. I went to the counter and the sales lady said that they should have the items in the size I asked for, so it e went on a scavenger hunt to find them- but even between the two of us looking we were unable to. There was literally no organization, and the clothes were thrown everywhere. And the items I was looking at cost almost a hundred each! Macy's obviously does not care about the upkeep of its store. I've attached pictures below. The one good thing about the place was the new stories section. I found some super cute things that I wasn't expecting. And best of all, they are all sourced from local businesses! And the staffing was the best (three sales associates!) out of any of the other (much larger) departments in the store. Perhaps if Macy's would staff all of the store like they did the "stories" section, it would actually be a decent place to shop. read more

This store has gone into the dumps. It's impossible to find a telephone number for the store. When you call the store it's customary for a clerk to pick up the phone and walk away. I had a simple call about a product that would have taken somebody 5 Seconds to answer. I spent 25 minutes on the phone, calling 5 separate times, on hold forever because they do not return to the phone. The customer service at this store is worse than Walmart. read more

I purchased an item online to be shipped to the store. I waited 12 business days to pick up my item. (7-10 business days is the allotted time). I received an email stating it got lost in transit and received a 25% off coupon on my next purchase. The deal I ordered for was well over 25%. I called but was sent to a call center. The representative was going to place my order for the original price (this is why it has at least 2 stars). She looked it up through my zip code and said it was available at the store that I wanted to pick it up at! She was unable to make the order due to online difficulties, but saved for when it gets back in stock (yay another 90 min call)! Anyway, don't ship to store with Macy's. Macy's then automatically pays off the CC without my authorization from my bank account the very same day. This is a decent sized Macy's that has a lot of product available. However, they do not carry any wide calf boots in their shoe department. The boots that are available in wide calf are marked but they don't have any in store. I asked for wide calf 7.5 boots to try on and the sales person brought them out. When they wouldn't zip I asked if they were wide calf she said "oh we don't carry any wide calf" I'm not sure if she just didn't hear me but I made it crystal clear from the beginning that I was looking for wide calf and yet she brought me out shoes that I couldn't try on. It was very irritating. Sure you can try on to see if it fits your foot but I can't tell if I like them when I can't zip them up. So frustrating! I ended up going to Nordstrom where I purchased wide calf boots. read more

I do not find any magic in Macy's. I've given it many a try. From the misrepresented online inventory and ordering system to the crappy customer service to the sheer lack of parallel items between stores (annoying for registry purchasing), Macy's is on my shit list. First, I'll start with the good. 1) You may encounter a good deal if you've a) been rifling through the racks and/or b) you actually have a coupon that applies to what you intend to purchase. Ok, and now onto the things that drive me crazy about this specific Macy's (I won't even get started about their website): 1) The sales are ridiculous. As in ridiculously bad. Sure, you may encounter a $99 diamond earring special on Black Friday. But if you think for one second that the "values" are actually accessible, you are likely wrong. 2) On the topic of sales, let's chat about the coupons. If you have a Macy's card, you can at least use said coupon on a few things. If not, be prepared to bring out your magnifying glass to read the longest list of brand exclusions you'll ever find. I still have not found an item where a coupon actually works. 3) Let's just say you received a gift card in the form of an email. One would assume the directions of "use this gift card online or in any Macy's store" would mean the sales associate can scan the barcode or *type in the gift card code* into their magic little cash registers. Um, no. If you don't print out that email, you can't redeem the gift card in stores. No, they cannot type in your gift card number. What about folks who have damaged gift card numbers, I wonder? 4) Registry. Oh shopping for an item on someone's wedding registry is not enjoyable here. Not only will you wander around the basement area (with zero cell service), but you'll be hard pressed to find 1) any of the exact items on said registry or 2) someone to help you. Some nice man took pity on me but still couldn't find even half of what was listed on a registry. Inventory is all over the place. I'm not going to say I'll never shop at Macy's again, but honestly, I have zero desire to shop at this location or their online store unless under duress. read more

I'm the gal that only reviews local businesses - or at least smaller businesses. You won't see many reviews of Wal-Mart's or McDonald's on my profile. That being said, if I experience something alarming (good or bad!) I always want to add in my $.02. My hope is that someone from Macy's sees this review and makes a change - a girl can hope :) I ordered three maternity dresses online and unfortunately none of them fit. I went in to make a return, and stopped at the first desk I could find with an associate visible. I first asked, "Can you process online returns?" - I knew it was possible there was a separate area dedicated to online returns. I was told yes, so long as it wasn't fine jewelry. I told her I had dresses, and she said it was fine. After taking everything out of the bag, my wallet, ID, and credit card, and her trying to process it - she then said, "Oh, I didn't realize they were MATERNITY dresses. I can't do those." I was then told I needed to pack everything back up, and walk what seemed like forever, to go downstairs, then to the OTHER side of the store, to the Maternity section. I took the trek down to the dark dungeon of sections that are rarely shopped, and lo and behold (but not surprising to me) - there was nobody at that particular register, just a handwritten sign, saying to go elsewhere. I tried three other registers before finally walking over to the fine crystal department and begging someone to help me out. And guess what? She processed the return at a normal cash register. Very frustrating - not only was it rude, but insensitive to tell a 9-months pregnant woman to walk halfway across the store to make a return! Poor customer service. read more

The customer service at this store is terrible. I spent a considerable amount of money on three mattresses, which went on sale shortly after I bought them. I went to this store to see if I could get the price adjusted. After waiting for fifteen minutes for help, someone finally showed up, at which point she told me I had to go to the store where I originally bought the mattresses. Complete BS! So a manger was called seriously 25 minutes ago, I'm so pissed that I'm drafting my review waiting for one still. Do they really think that people have time to sit around and wait? So another associate comes and starts chatting with customers waiting in line. The petite sales associate asks her to take a look at my transaction and she takes care of it!! FINALLY! I have grown to accept Macy's. But I have to say, it will NEVER replace Marshall Field's. This is by far one of the largest Macy's in the Suburbs of Chicago and has a very decent selection. However, I have been able to find items sold at lower prices right outside Macy's door. Just last Spring I purchased an ESQ watch for 30% lower at Rogers and Hollands in Woodfield Mall (about 20 steps outside Macy's). Macy's wouldn't even let me use a coupon at the same watch sold in their case. The other major downside of Macy's, there is always a problem with using coupons. I.E. This coupon cannot be combined; This coupon cannot be used on this item; This coupon cannot be used with this particular sale. I am getting every tired of receiving coupons in the mail that are useless... If you can avoid the temptation of Frango Mints, shop elsewhere. read more

I too miss Marshall Fields, but it's not coming back. So now we have Macy's and I've actually seen a few changes for the better since they renamed the store and restructured the sales policies. 1. I don't have to dress up to get decent customer service. A big problem with Marshall Fields was that the sales people made assumptions and delivered (or failed to deliver) customer service based on those assumptions. If I'm visiting a mall with friends, I'm not going to put on my haute couture just to be taken seriously. My jeans should be acceptable as long as my money is green and this Macy's really delivers on that. No sniffs or sideways glances, they recognize a woman with a credit card and a deep desire for purses when they see one. 2. The selection has improved, especially on sizing. I'm a bigger girl and often I'll only see a Manhatten closet-sized section of clothes that fit me, often in Granny floral patterns. Macy's has historically done better on offering a selection of fine clothing in my size than Marshall Fields / Lord and Taylor's / Nordstroms, and the store in Woodfield in particular. They also offer in-between sizing for men, which helps my sweetheart get pants that fit him perfectly. Not everyone is an even number, Nordstroms! 3. I'm not a suspect because I look under 30. No one follows me around, offers to hold my bags, tries to steer me away from expensive things or shop-blocks me in any way. I understand retail theft is a big problem and looking youthful is a crime in and of itself, but when it's clear I've been purchasing elsewhere, why would you want to dissuade me from purchasing from you? Once again, I'm talking to you Nordstroms! Macy's just lets you browse and has helpful attentive staff making themselves visible and available if you have questions. Bottom line - when I want an ultra-classy outfit, a set of handsome-yet-durable dress pants, or a special accessory to complete a look, I head to Macy's at Woodfield. read more

I went in this store to buy quite a few items for gifts. When I arrived at the register, the cashier treated my selections like they were dirty diapers (not wanting to touch them, etc) She resorted to shrieking at me when she could not locate the price tag. If I hadn't received such stellar customer service at the MAC counter and good service at the Clinique counter, this would be a one star review. After the two makeup counters I went to look at shoes. Wandered around, picked things up, put them down. No associate approached me. It occurred to me I couldn't even identify one. Okay... guess I'm not getting shoes then. For all the counters the jewelry department there was one associate working... and she usually doesn't work that department so she was at a disadvantage (staff your stores, people!). Still, she was patiently helping an indecisive customer with lots of questions when I walked up to wait my turn to buy a few pieces. She acknowledged me and twice more apologized for the wait (about 5-7 minutes). I told her it was fine. Another woman got in line behind me, after which a second associate (thin female with white hair) came to the counter behind us and she pointedly asked the woman behind me if she needed help. She then proceeded to ring up that customer's sale, completely ignoring me even though I was clearly there first. I put my selected items down on her counter and walked out without a word. Perhaps I didn't "look" like someone with money to spend, but I heard the other woman's total and the merch I had selected was worth almost 10x that amount. Associates have sales goals. I've been to quite a few Macy's, this one is pretty big! Most don't have a very big men's department but they have a pretty decent sized men's department and carry all the regular brands that I expect to find at Macy's. I went the day before Thanksgiving and they were already very busy so it wasn't easy getting any help from anyone working in the department but fortunately I didn't need any help. They do have a lot of variety of things at this location, it will take you a while to go through it for sure. read more
