This place does it right - family owned and the guides are super kind and knowledgeable. We took our 7 and 3-year-olds and Ody did everything to ensure they felt confident and safe. We will definitely be keeping track of Ody wherever he goes and will be back to Downstream Adventures!

What a fantastic adventure! Kevin, with 11 years of experience as a white water rafting guide, provided expert guidance. We thoroughly enjoyed laughing, freezing, and making memories. We highly recommend this company! #downstreamadventuresrafting #hikevinsmom

This company is amazing and very accommodating. I felt completely safe and in good hands with Tre, Trevor and Amanda. They all made the excursion very informative and fun. We had a party of 13, and they made us feel very comfortable as most of us were beginners. If you have a desire to go white water rafting, please consider using this company. They won't disappoint, and they are family owned!

    Family vacation!

Had an AMAZING time rafting with this company! We are a party of 10 so we split 4 and 6. The younger group had Tippy. They said he was amazing! Us older folk had Russell. So knowledgeable, great communicator, fantastic raft guide and all around cool guy. This was our first white water rafting trip and now I'm hooked! We ALL highly recommend this company. Fun. Smart. Kind. Experienced. Knowledgeable.

It's time to kick some knowledge on Downstream Adventures rafting so follow along. We came with a group of 4 couples and most of them had little to no previous experience in rafting. We signed up for the intermediate level tour and what a blast we had. For those that don't know, this tour consisted of class 3-4 level rapids and required everyone to participate- or should I say paddle. We went late in the season so the water level was low which made things slightly more difficult as hitting more rocks was likely. Anyways, we grabbed our guide Philip and headed off. Philip was a great guide and if you get the chance I highly recommend using him. Word from Boat Crew 2 is Tippy was solid too. He had a great attitude and gave all of us clear instructions. As we floated down the river we had the typical bumps and spins. Some areas were a little harry but nothing extreme. A few people in different boats had a few fall out during the trip but nobody was ejected and nearly every boat got high-sided on a rock or two which required the boat captain to work a bit. Aside from that, everything went pretty smoothly. During one point we came across this dude who was fishing. He was absolutely lost and had no idea what he was doing. As boats got close to him he continued casting where most people would wait until the boat passed. Well, not this village idiot. This clown literally cast his line into our boat and snagged someone in our boat landing the hook into her shorts. All in all, this was a great trip and everyone had a blast. My buddies AnnTony and T-Bone were in another boat and even though they are generally grumpy and stubborn they also had a great time. Next time you are in the Denver area and if your looking for some fun and adventure, I highly recommend you check them out- you won't be disappointed. Two thumbs up! Oh, I nearly forgot about the bus. So, if you don't know, you have to jump on a yellow school bus to be brought to/from the river from the store. The bus ride itself was an E ticket ride. The best way to describe it would be picture the video game Grand Theft Auto where you can upgrade your car to a tank or school bus. Let's just say we were had fun. Good times.

This was our first family trip and the Downstream team was great! The instructions were clear, check in and safety talk was to the point, and we got all decked out in the appropriate gear. Our guide Joe was great! We went with an almost 6 and almost 8 year old, neither of whom could really handle paddling, but Joe kept them safe, entertained, and plenty wet. This was a great trip! One star review for the river being too cold and shallow to swim in - would love to see them fix that.

    Beginners course with Tippy!

For the last few years our boys(6,8, and 10) have dreamed of catching a trout. In Florida we catch bass but trout is something they've always wanted to catch. We were staying at the Rocky Mountain YMCA about an hour away and we spent the week exploring and looking for an option to catch trout for big surprise on Friday. They updated social media said they are currently open fri-Mon. So even though nobody answers the phone when we tried to call on Wednesday and Thursday we wanted to trust that their website, that Google, that Apple Maps, all shows they are open Friday. Friday morning we checked out of our hotel drove there to find a sign that says we are open Friday through Monday and another sign next to it that says currently closed. As you can see in the picture, it is 1 PM on a Friday when they're saying they should be open... super bummed because we don't have enough time before our flight to find another option and we had planned on this all week. Maybe another year we can try to catch a trout.

You don't have to bring anything at all and a fishing license is not required. So if you think of all that savings right up front for a one time fishing event, you can't beat it! You have to keep every fish you catch and you pay for fish by the inch. So for an entire day of fishing, where we caught 6 nice size trout (see pictures) we paid $125 and left a 20% tip on top of that. Thats still cheaper than buying two fishing licenses for the girls buying one for me, because I would have to have a license if they are fishing, buying rods, reels, bait, and find a place where they're actually going to catch fish. If you know what you're in for when you get there and pay attention to the pricing there's absolutely nothing to complain about. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend for any family taking their kids fishing for the first time.

My legs hurt and I was dehydrated as shit because my moron friends didn't want to stop for food / water beforehand (big mistake). This wasn't the end of the world though due to the natural streams throughout the trek. Just dip your head in for some of the coolest most refreshing water you have ever tasted. Seriously, it beats the hell out of a bottle of Poland Spring or Fiji or whatever your posh ass is used to. I may retract that statement in a week when I have a tadpole making a nest (or whatever tadpoles do) inside of my stomach but for now ... yeah ... refreshing :) Get there early and have a car that you can beat up a little / SUV since there is about 4 miles of hilly dirt roads to get to the trail-head. I recommend hiking boots but I was fine in sneakers. Definitely take snacks / water and if your friends convince you otherwise just poke them hard in the gut with your hiking poles / stick (yes you probably want these too) until they cave in and stop the car for you. The trail is easy to follow. There is a split after about 1 - 1.5 miles up that has you chose between Apache Trail and Diamond Lake. We went for the lake. You will know you are there. If you miss it, congrats, you will probably be some giant grizzly bear's dinner that night. It was one of the more beautiful hiking sites I have bore witness to. For an added bonus and guys if you don't mind your balls retreating up into your stomach for warmth, take off those shoes and climb onto that rock in the center of the lake for some incredible panorama photos. The area surrounding the lake is great for a nap, a picnic, a read, etc. On our way down we stumbled across a man who sprained his ankle about 2 miles in. As a 9 person bachelor party we helped carry him 2 miles to the bottom. Humanitarian mission of Colorado has been complete, sites have been seen, and headache from altitude sickness is quickly on-setting due to lack of nutrients and H20. Despite hunger and a pounding headache, I definitely want to get back to the area and try a few other trails. Such an amazing escape from my normal city life.

It's easy to reach in all seasons: due to the train tunnel, the dirt road to the trailhead is kept well maintained and plowed. Definitely way way more crowded on summer weekends than in winter. The trail from the lower two lakes to the upper lake is much steeper, but worth the added effort. Just note that when you first reach what you think is the upper lake, it's actually the drainage (albeit also lovely, see my attached photo); you need to go just a bit further over the boulders & through some bushes to reach the final upper cirque.

I HAD to make a stop and investigate it as the Savery Savory Mushroom Water Tower, the only intact remnant of the original collection of structures didn't escape my eye/attention (how could it escape it?; it's a very tall water tower!) This was the site by a guy named Charles William Savery from Pennsylvania, who bought a 80-acre farm in what is now Westminster in 1918. Long story short, the mushroom farm which Charles built is no longer there but having one of the remnant structures, the city of Westminster built a pond in 1995. The pond, which was originally built to hold storm water, is now a habitat for many species of insects, plants, birds, fish, I mean you name it, right? The pond itself is not massive but is a good size. Once at the trailhead, you can have an extensive walk/running/bike ride as the trails are extensive (to all sorts of directions). Several parks (Foxshire Park, Valley View Park, Meadowlark Park) and Legacy Ridge Golf Course are what surround this pond. Niver Canal that runs through the area is so picturesque and you can walk/jog/run/bike along the canal if you choose. The homeowners have access to the trail(s) right from their backyard gates. Some neighbors were having an afternoon cocktail in their backyard; some were chitchatting over their property fence. It is such a beautiful area with lots of green.
