I called this restaurant before ordering TWICE, to ensure they had funnel cake fries (that's all i was hoping to get). The woman over the phone assured me that they had them, so I drove all the way across town to order them. I get to there, and as soon as I ordered them and she tried to enter the order, she told me they were out. The restaurant wasn't busy, and you could tell she knew it was me on the phone earlier. If you don't like your job or business, find a new one! My husband likes to get the funnel fries with his meal instead of reg fries. I wanted to go somewhere I never ate before and found this place in restaurants close to me. Those reviews mentioned free fry Friday so I decided to try it out. The burger was great with the toppings I wanted. The fries were free and overflowing. The speed of service was what you would expect from an order then they cook the burger place. The free fries made my drink and bacon burger total under $9. They even have free nacho cheese sauce for the fries! Omg I was a glutton and I don't even feel bad about it. My wife and I just got stopped by for a couple of burgers after a soccer game. The time was 8:50pm and we knew they closed at 9. Two sets of tables were still eating and there were 2 people behind the grill and one at the register when they all looked at us and said they were closed. For a local business to turn people away when it's clearly not closed shows poor service in my opinion. Stopped in town on the way to Kansas City from St. Louis and I really wanted something I haven't tried before since Columbia is flooded with food options and regular hotspots. I was extremely happy with my choice of the Mad Cow following the visit. It's tucked away in a shopping plaza, but thankfully they have a gigantic sign so it's easy to spot once you're in the parking lot. We arrived earlier in the day right around 10:45 or so and we were the only customers there. The menu is pretty straight forward - burgers, fries, various toppings. Kinda the classic American burger joint feel to it. I went with the Bacon Cheeseburger combo. The burgers are huge! I almost ordered a double burger, but I probably wouldn't have been able to finish it if I did. Soft buns, fresh toppings, meaty burgers, twice-fried French fries... doesn't get much better than that. If you're looking for a change of pace from downtown and fast food, give this place a chance! read more

It's been years since I've been to Mad Cow and the food is much pricier and not as good. While a price increase is inevitable, to let the quality slide is inexcusable. My cheeseburger was just so so and the fries were soggy. Also, I did not see the combos on the menu since that menu was off to the side, so I paid more than I would have if I had seen the combo menu. I understand the owner is a veteran and I like to support veterans. It would be nice if he honored seniors and veterans with a discount. read more

These burgers were delicious; the right amount of toppings with a fantastic patty. Ordering a single or a double patty sets you up for a great lunch. My husband and I shared a large order of the house fries and ate them all. The burgers do remind me of a Five Guys, but they're much better and far less greasy. The atmosphere of this place could use some work just to make it feel a bit more unique; I'd love to see others enjoy it as much as we did when we were passing through. read more

This place is great! I completely get it when people say that they are reminded of Five Guys, but for me that really isn't important... Especially when your food is better. And it is. For one thing the sizes here make sense. They call things what they really are. A regular burger is 1 patty. A large burger is 2 patties. I wonder how much money Five guys has made by people ordering a "regular" burger only to discover it is actually not regular at all, it is the size of Rhode Island. The burgers come with all the toppings you want, I had the sauted onions, lettuce, and tomato and a REGULAR fry. Everything was great! Also do yourself a favor and try the Mad Cow sauce. Excels at a plain burger for a small town joint and carries an awfully unfortunate name. Seriously, in a college town, how many people are thought blocking eating at a place that evokes an irreversible contagious brain disease acquired from the burger substrate itself? I definitely did. Having come from more thematic and creative burger joints a la Blanc Burgers and Beer Kitchen in KC, this is basically a bland burger joint that needs some inspiration to find a niche, unless they are trying to compete with Steak 'n Shake minus the glorious dairy selection. The menu is positively minimalist and unless it aspires to some modern aesthetic, I think it really only appeals to those who like simple, plain, unoriginal takes on traditional Americana. Nothing wrong with that, but this restaurant won't survive unless it widens it's palate and takes on a 21st century spin to the hot beef sandwich. Also, the sweet potato fries are sugar-coated. Literally. As if I needed a reminder I am stuck in Boone County, Missouri. This should be noted on the menu, but I guess I should have expected it from the state that worships sweet tea and the ilk. Bottom line, there's some talent at this stand, but it needs to branch out, change its theme, and probably get a liquor license to survive. Not sure what low expectations some reviewers have here but for me this place was a complete joke. Customer service is always important and that was strike one for me. No personality at all and seemed to be put off by the fact I even walked in... I went there mid afternoon, not a busy time. I ordered a simple burger with bacon and the usual toppings. Since the pricing is high a didn't order any fries. The burger was just okay...nothing special about it al all. Like others have stated you could easily make one at home for a fraction of the cost. I have been to Five Guys several times and have never been disappointed. I will not be returning to Mad Cow, what a stupid name in the first place. Had lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I was taken back by how similar it was to Five Guys. And I don't mean that they're similar in that they both serve the same style of burgers and fries. I mean that literally every single detail is the same. Mad Cow has boxes of potatoes along the wall like, the exact same menu both in terms of content and in design, and even has the same pricing structure. It's almost like they copied and pasted Five Guys menu, deducted $0.10 from each item, and then drew a funny looking cow head as their logo. With all of that being said, however, the food is really good. It's a great place to grab a burger and fries. If I have the option, though, of paying an extra $0.10 for the real deal, Im going with Five Guys every time. If I'm on the south side of town, I'll probably go back to Mad Cow. read more

I went to Mad Cow after work for a quick bite to eat. I really wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was! When I got there it was close to closing time but they took my order anyways. There were a lot of extras you can add to your burger but the menu was still simple. The wait time was so-so but I can't complain because the food was great! I'm really glad I tried this place.
