Great delivery 3 days and trans works great and shifts real smooth wish it was a little harder but overall it's good

Bought the godfather 650hp. Lasted 60 miles and the pump broke. Whether or not if I installed the converter wrong is irrelevant. When my transmission guy opened it up the only part that was not completely stock was the corvette servo. Even before the pump broke I had an incident where it wouldn't shift 2 to 3 and started spinning as in neutral. Never shifted right overall. After a complete high performance rebuild (again), it still had the shifting spinning problem when it got hot. My guy said there's probably something wrong with the case that's not apparent to the naked eye. So we scraped the whole thing and started over. The new transmission works great. So now I'm into my transmission for over $5500. Wouldn't touch this place with a 20 foot pole. read more

I purchased a stage 3 tuned 4l65e it only lasted 7 months . I hardly ever drive the vehicle also it's my weekend car . When this happened I called and they were going to return my call but never do. I gave up and I'm going to a local shop . From day one the transmission also had a shutter on right turns . I didn't want to deal with the hassle of taking it back out and sending it back and all of that . read more

After getting our new transmission in and installing it we found the pump was bad, replaced the pump only to find the Torque Converter bad. Replaced that. Now our Transmission guy is saying that gears 4,5,6 were installed wrong and the transmission is bad. I called Maddog to discuss it with them and they said they would call me back. I've dropped over $3,000 extra in tranny fluid, cost of taking it to a shop and parts that were supposed to come with in good working condition just to find out the whole thing is still broke. Would 10/10 NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE read more

I'm surprised to see negative reviews but of course people typically write when they are not satisfied - which is understandable. I've only had good experiences with this company. We Purchased a transmission for my 2016 GMC Yukon. One we recieved it my father and husband installed it. We never moved the vehicle and had it towed to a chevy dealership to have it all programmed like they Maddog told us to. Once it was all programmed The Mechanic took it for a test drive and said something was wrong with it. After looking into it he found the pump INSIDE the new transmission was bad causing it not to work correctly and to overheat. We contacted Maddog and they told us the pump being broke was our fault and they would not stand behind their warranty. Our mechanic even talked to them and told them there was no way that we could have broke the pump since it's internal. They even argued with the mechanic. We ended up having to buy a new pump and had a transmission tech install it only to find RUST SCRAPES AND GOUGES out of the Pump and in the Torque Converter which we were told were new with the transmission. We have now had to replace the Torque Converter and the pump plus $600 in fluid because of this. They DO NOT STAND behind their warranty and they will blame you for anything being wrong even though when taken apart it clearly shows it was not our wrong doing. read more

Bought a transmission from Mad Dog Sept 2021. It was not shifting correctly. I brought it to a local transmission shop which was able to repair it. Lou said he would reimburse us for the repairs ($600). He did not and will not respond to my repeated requests. I have filed a complain with the BBB. I would not recommend buying a transmission from Mad Dog...once they get their money, they do not care anymore...very bad customer service. read more

Hello all. I purchased a 98 4L60-E transmission from Jennifer last July of 2020. I picked up the transmission from a freight company in August 2020. Was supposed to be a stage 2 (with firm shifts and an 1800 stall converter). What I received l was a painted black transmission (not knowing if the internals were as advertised). Well, life has its hurdles and not having the time to do it myself I just now paid my friend (a master GM mechanic for the last 25 years) To do the job. Being that he is able to use the shop and all amenities which makes it a 4 hour job for the 98 k1500. All said and done correctly and performed by a certified GM master mechanic, this thing now only has 2 gears. 1 & 2. NO 3rd NO OVERDRIVE. No compression braking once in the 3rd gear position. All said and done, it's a junk transmission painted gloss black strapped to a pallet. Yes I waited almost a year to install but regardless I did NOT RECEIVE WHAT I PURCHASED! I paid $1685.00 plus the removal and install from a GM MASTER MECHANIC. I did send Jennifer an email to please contact me and from the Point of purchase she was very nice. I'm writing this because I had all of this done on Saturday (today) and I'm very upset. Things need to be made right with money in my pocket. I will NOT be send this back (paying $400 for freight of a junk transmission). read more

***DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY***All of the performance parts listed were not included in the 700R4 transmission,I know this because I had to have the tail shaft replaced for my application by a local professional (I dont care about the warranty). They say they test drive the transmission and nothing was wet (no fluid in transmission) all paper bands were dry. My problem with this is that I paid $$$$$ for a performance transmission and got a basic frankensteind transmission with sub-par parts. The other issue is they dont want you taking to professional mechanic so that you wont realize that you were given a sub-par transmission for a performance price. I really wanted to like this company but so far my experience has been nothing but a disappointment. The transmission went out in my 2000 GMC Sierra 4x4 lifted the with 33 inch tires and 170,000 miles, It has an upgraded 6.0 motor with about 500 hp and was built for towing. The stock trans could not keep up. Mad Dog looked like great outfit to build me a sweet upgraded trans that would work well. And after speaking with Dale their "sales guy"? He told me Oh yeah no prob we are the best! We will build just what you need." My trusted tranny shop: California Transmissions, were willing to install it at a fair price of $600, but warned me about the challenges of buying online with warrantee and issues in the future. They offered to build me a trans just as good at about the same cost and cover it with a 2 year warrantee, at any california transmission location. Two weeks later, right on time, as promised, the transmission arrived on a truck in a box that was broken and smashed. I was going to deny the package but the trans didn't look damaged inside the poorly packed card board box on a crate. I was affirmed by Dale that they are packed well and not to worry! Boy was he wrong. Any way, I called Mad Dog before accepting the package but the were closed, I left a message but never received a call back. I paid 600 to have the trans installed and it was bad out of the box. It had issues with the stall converter slipping and would jump out if gear between 3 and 4th and rev like it was in neutral. After attempting to reach Mad Dog multiple times they finally responded to me and my shop and agreed to have it shipped back on their dime! At this point I have still never got the truck back from my tranny shop so I have not driven it yet. Dale acted like he was doing me a huge favor by paying for return shipping for their bad out the box part. I requested compensation from the extra labor that I was going to be forced to pay, and Dale explained their no labor cost refund policy, but told me that he would check for me. They got it back and their GM expert and Shop Manager Bobby determined that it had a crack in the valve body, metal shavings inside, and a bad stall converter. He said "You would have not driven very far!" Obviously, I have not driven it at all yet! Any way, they said they would get it fixed and shipped back the next day. I again asked Bobby about giving me some sort of credit or compensation for the extra labor that I was going to be forced to pay, and he side stepped the request and said he would also check into it. A week later I didn't hear from them again, so I called and found out that it had not been shipped because they had to order a new valve body. I requested to speak with Lou multiple times however he was not available every time I asked. Another week later the transmission arrived and was installed. My shop called me and told me it was ready, the were very nice and only charged me $1000 total for labor (an additional $400 on top of the $600) for doing the job twice. but warned me that it shifts violently from 1st to 2nd! I picked up the truck and it was so bad that my cup falls out of the cup holder at every 1 to 2 shift. I called Mad Dog and spoke with Dale and he acted like we have never spoken, then quickly transferred me to Bobby, and he said no prob, we will send you a different servo, and that will solve the issue. i requested compensation for my $400 in additional cost once again but received the same answer, we will look into it! Ok so 1-2 weeks later, no servo and no tracking info so I call Mad Dog to find out that the servo was sent to an address that does not exist. Jennifer apologized and told me that another one would be on its way. I received an email from Mad Dog wandering why I Denied delivery for a transmission! "What??? I already had two transmissions shipped, and installed!!! Not sure what your talking about" I said! "Must me some other customer unhappy with their shipping freight service" I thought. Any way, still no servo gear. Or tracking info! 1 week later after no delivery I call Mad Dog once again and Jennifer tells me that they did not have one, and they had to order a new one. So I requested a tracking # and phone call of any info on its arrival and received no such info. Yesterday I received the servo clearly it is not new and not in a new box, but I really hope it fixes the shifting issue. I hope my experience helps with your decision to purchase from Mad Dog Transmissions, It would be cool they would step up and compensate me for the $400 out of pocket cost to me. Not to mention the 6-8 weeks without my vehicle. Not counting on it though. Maybe my experience would have been better If they did the work and stood behind their product and labor. Only 500 miles before my Mad Dog transmission failed. So sad to be told your getting a high performance transmission and find out from a "true" professional the insides are junk. Not worth the money, find someone else to do your transmissions. Took my Chevy Avalanche to them to have the transmission rebuilt because they charged half the price the Chevy dealership wanted for a Chevy factory rebuilt and was supposed to be an upgraded, better than stock transmission. The rebuilt transmission went out on me barely 3 months after having it rebuilt, while I was 300miles from home... Got the truck back to Mad Dog to have them honor the warranty, and they rebuilt it again. In putting it all back together, they hooked up the starter in such a way that the power wire was jumping the terminals causing it to continuously crank once the battery was hooked up. They called me and proceeded to blame me since I had installed a dual battery in my truck since the last time they worked on the transmission. I had to go out of my way to go up there, crawl under my own truck in their parking lot borrowing their tools and fix it myself because they wouldn't believe anything other than I had added something that messed it up(even after completely disconnecting and removing the second battery and solenoid and everything I added). But once I got my own truck going again it was good to go, no charge since it was 3 months into the 1yr warranty period. Now, just over a year later(past the warranty period end date) my transmission is AGAIN going to need a rebuild. Not even 25,000 miles since the last(and second) rebuild. So in under 18 months, my truck(which has less than 150,000 total miles) will need it's 3rd transmission rebuild. All on a full-size, bone stock engine truck that doesn't ever tow anything more than a small motorcycle trailer(maybe 900lbs with bike loaded) and is used just to commute to work and transport my motorcycle for trips, never used offroad, and never beat on. I will definitely not be taking my truck back to Mad Dog, nor any other vehicle I ever own. read more

I bought a 700R4 trans with a 3500 stall speed converter from this company to put into a Chevelle. Upon the transmission installation the torque converter was wrong so the entire trans had to be replaced and converter shipped back on my dime. A new converter was shipped that was damaged, I shipped that back on my own dime too. Once a working converter arrived the garage installed the trans was re-installed. I received a bill from the garage for shipping converters and reinstalling the new one. Mad Dog told me the bill was too high and it shouldnt have taken them that long to reinstall the converter, therefore they only gave me 250.00 on a 600.00 bill. Once converter was in car was test driven about 30 miles and the transmission blew off the governor cap. Mad Dog stated they had no idea why that would happen and sent me a new governor cap, but made no offer to pay to repair the transmission, or pay to have it removed and sent back to them. Aside from this it took over 4 weeks to credit my credit card for the second converter they made me buy in order to ship it to me before the wrong converter they sent was sent back to them. They appealed to me as a company who cared about veterans and offered 5% discounts. As a disabled veteran this earned their business from me. Since then I feel like I didn't get a quality product and they haven't stood behind any of their poor workmanship. I would not recommend doing business with this company, especially for other veterans out there who may be tempted. read more

I purchased what was supposed to be a 4 L60 transmission for my 1990 Corvette. After talking to Lou by phone he assured me he could get one right to me. I live in Alaska so all communication was via phone or e-mail. My first hint something wasn't right was when Jennifer sent me the invoice and it was for a 700 R4. The difference between a 4L60 and a 700R4 is the length of the output shaft. The 4L60 is Corvette specific and is around an inch and a half shorter than a 700R4. I had explained this to Lou during my initial phone call and I also replied to Jennifer that a 700R4 would not work after receiving the invoice. She assured me everything was corrected in an e-mail a few days later. Long story short they sent the wrong trans. I contacted them and told them it was the wrong trans to which Jennifer replied she had talked to Lou and he said I was wrong and it would fit. I then replied with measurements that it would not fit and included a chart showing the dimensions from TCI transmissions. I didn't receive any response from them after repeated e-mails. These people are con artists that do not backup their products. They just continue to ignore any corospondance and choose to ignore their mistakes. Avoid them like the plague!!! read more

So I drove 65 miles to Mad Dog to get a level 2 - 700r4 trans with 2800 stall converter. Paid $1635 for said units. I even met Lou Koulouvaris the owner. I pulled the pan off to put on one that had a drain plug and the pan on the trans was just filthy inside, See pictures on google reviews. This trans had not been rebuilt let alone upgraded to a level 2 trans. I then called the torque converter reman company and they told me the converter was a 2000 stall converter. Mad Dog got me twice. Mad Dog - Bad Dog. I asked for a refund. They said they would build me a new trans. Sorry, last place I would get a trans from is this rip off joint. It was a nightmare which started after I paid my 50% deposit. It was a super easy rebuild/replacement of a 4L80e in a 2500 gas truck. I stayed in a hotel so it would be there in the morning/cold for them to get started. They didn't actually start until after lunch that day, which made the whole hotel/early morning trip a waste. On the way home, I realized that the tow/haul button did nothing with the shift points. I called back, and that's when the real crap started... lots of circle talk. Then, my transfer case wouldn't shift due to a leak from the transmission into the t-case. I drove the 4 hours in hopes they would repair both problems. They did repair the t-case seal, and charged me for it(they should have just replaced it when they had the two separated). More circle talk on the tow/haul, stated that vehicle wasn't "closing the loop". I had it checked out by a place who specializes in diagnostics/computer stuff, and they said the vehicle was performing as it should. Then a few weeks later, 7 hours from home, the transmission craps out... no reverse, and slipping(all within a few thousand miles of the initial rebuild). I nursed it home in 3rd gear. After 3-4 weeks of crap from them, I finally got them to schedule me back in. I drove it back, more scheduling crap from them which meant that I had to hang out there and wait for hours and hours until they started it, but they finally got the second transmission in there ~ 5pm that afternoon. It performs as it should, no problems yet. Was a crappy crappy experience for a rebuild that I could have had done locally for 1/2 the price that I paid them. read more

I had it installed at my local mechanic and he advised me once it was installed that it was not shifting properly. i had them call Elliott at Mad dog and Elliot said he would call me. Never did. I decided to have it towed to a transmission specialist who confirmed what the original mechanic had said. it was a poor rebuild and advised me to contact mad dog and ask for a replacement. Mad Dog wanted me to pay to uninstall it and ship to them for them to take god knows how much time to send back to me if i would ever get it back. My truck has been waiting long enough. I suggest to read reviews and not purchase a Mad Dog Transmission. Find a local shop where if a problem does arise you can get it taken care of. I for one am disputing my charge on the CC with Mad Dog and paying a local shop to install a transmission in. You get what you pay for and Mad Dog is complete garbage. read more

My name is Eric and I live in Maryland. Sure I could have found a local shop but sometimes good service is hard to find even in your own backyard. I gave mad dog a shot, watched Lou's videos online and said man I'm going to try it out. Yes its a risk just as anything is a risk, no one has money to throw away but key thing Mad Dog transmissions offered was there warranty. One year warranty if your transmission fails. I said dam ok but like Lou said that's even without knowledge on how transmission was installed. He got u covered. Yeah u have to ship it but how many people can u buy something from and try to return it and they say sorry we didn't install it but I'll fix it. NO ONE. They gave me great service, I talked to Jennifer several times, Dale, Lou as well as Bobby the tech. They were all great and patient with me and the questions that I came to them about. I recently brought my 2005 Mercury Mariner to Mad Dog because of transmission issues.. wasn't sure if the entire transmission needed to be rebuilt or if it was just a sensor or some other small not-so-expensive part.. i called and spoke with Elliot about it and the way i was treated by this company was nothing short of amazing!!! Elliot kept me informed every step of the way i never felt like i was being doped, mislead or conned. I met with Lou today to discuss a rebuilt transmission 700r4. I met with Lou and all I can say is: what a gentleman! He knows transmissions like the back of his hand! The parts he uses for a rebuild are top notch! I had already been to a number of transmission shops eager to take my money. But Lou was honest and professional. He told me a few things I could do to improve my transmissions performance, as well as adjustments to my carburetor and linkage. He gave me "piece of mind" and confidence in my transmission. Everyone was professional and helpful to the n'th degree. The shop was immaculate, and well stocked is an understatement. That being said, when It comes time for replacement, I will definitely use his expert knowledge and services. I can't say enough about my experience! This is by far one of the worst companies to buy from. I bought a transmission from them 10/08/15 and I currently have no transmission or the $1,440. To start I received the transmission on 11/8/15 almost a month late. I install the transmission only to have it last not even ten miles on the test drive. The transmission reverted to neutral and would not shift to any other gear. I call the company they instantly assume the transmission was installed wrong (apparently its rocket science to install a transmission even with a transmission jack/proper tools). I send the transmission back on 1/11/16 on my dime ($200) and ask them to get an other one coming for my now royally pissed off customer (which they agree to do but failed to uphold that agreement). I get a call from them telling me nothing was wrong. I ask about the new one they shipped and was told one had not been shipped yet. Now its about 4 months and I had to go buy a transmission from a different company to save the relationship with the customer. I ask for my money back since I no longer need their product. I was then told I voided the warranty, because had to put an after market adapter plate on the transmission so it would bolt to the vehicles engine and transfer case. I ended up ordering a Jasper transmission and everything is great the vehicle now has 5k miles read more

(DON't USE THIS COMPANY BEFORE READING!!!) I would rather give negative stars so others won't suffer as have I. I consider myself a nice person but the people at mad dog are not. I had my transmission installed last year and I haven't even had the truck back for a few days when I seen a large pool of trans fluid. I called and then I had to pay to have it towed. But it wasn't a big deal I just wanted my truck to go to work and the simple stuff. They fixed whatever they said was wrong and again a few days later there was more fluid and another tow bill to have them fix it. This had gone on several more times and I have all the paper work to show and then they had an excuse, they said one of the guys messed up and ruined several transmission in the process. Enough said but that wasn't all. The owner told me he would fix it and no charge (of course and the even sent a tow truck this time), well I had got the truck back after the numerous times it had been in there shop and today I'm dealing with the same thing. Bad work or just not knowing what they are doing. In and out of the shop for a year and still I had paid for the transmission and the towing bills and they still stile it to me. My 2007 classic LS truck needed a transmission so I decided to look for one on the internet and behold I come across maddog web site everything look good and the. key for me was he didn't use oem parts ,only after market parts ..I was sold after watching his presentation. so I called after a couple of days and talk to his brother he confirmed everything that his brother Lou said .so he patch me through to his secretary and I place the order all the sweet talk and the bad reviews I just figured they got there act together. I should have cancel the order right then ...and it took 4 weeks to shipped my transmission stage 2, and when I called back she then told me it was delayed because the we're waiting for a shift module a week later it was on it's way all painted blue the color I requested.the transmission was already out of my truck when I received the tranny I put the new one in I was excited until I drove it it shifted hard and I called maddog and talked to Bobby he told me it was shifting hard because I probably got dirt in it and he told me to clean a part that wasn't even in my transmission almost like he was to busy to deal with me .so I drove it shifting a little hard figured it would clean itself out after a little bit it never did and one day I was going up a little Hill and all of a sudden nothing in 3rd gear ,I called maddog back his secretary told me I was still under warranty and to take it out and send it back at my expense . I asked Bobby if he would just exchange it seeing I just purchased it 2 months ago he told me no.i asked him if I was to give partial payment and could send a new one he said no .I told him once I received the new one I would send the other back asap. DO NOT BUY FROM MAD DOG TRANSMISSIONS!!!!!!! I purchaced a 4L60E from MAD DOG last month (Feb 2017). I installed in my 1994 Silverado 4x4. It ran for 30 miles then downshifted into 2nd gear and stayed there. I limped it home, checked fluid, it was burnt and had metal in it. I sent it back and they said it was my fault....Really?? I have installed many of these, they said I did'nt seat the torque converter and wrecked the pump. So if the pump was not pumping fluid how was it able to move?? (after bolting tranny to engine the TC spun freely before bolting to flex plate) It was drivable in first and second gear only. I sent it back, they did pay for shipping back. In the meantime I had my original one rebuilt by a local shop, (Rogers Automotive, Chantilly, VA. Thank You Wayne) and that one runs great. So I asked for a refund, they said no, its in the contract, which it is. They are shipping the tranny back to me. I have no use for it and will not sell it to anyone with the mad dog label on it. So I am warning anyone out there thinking of purchasing a MAD DOG tranny, please take my experience into account and go local with it. I'm out $1300.00. Had my 700r4 installed when they were in Tampa, they really know what they are doing. as soon as i had it done i drove the car 1300 miles without stopping up to CT. Now i'm going on my 2nd 383 stroker using the same trany. I drive my corvette like it was supposed be driven. Drive it like i stole it. What an amazing job they did. Very pleased. read more

All I can say is that if you are considering Mad Dog Transmissions, DON'T!!!!! I took a 700R4 and asked how much for a first class stage 4 transmission rebuild, I was quoted $1700 plus $350 for a new converter, the bill came to $2300, I paid their asking price because I wanted a quality rebuild. I got nothing close to quality, after removing the trans FIVE times because it either locked up in low gear or had no low gear at all, I was told I needed a $500 valve body, I passed on this because I had lost ALL confidence in their ability to provide a quality transmission. I took the trans to a local transmission shop and was present while it was disassembled , used parts were installed, the KEVLAR band was a standard off the shelf "Stock" band, the bushings were not replaced although I was assured that ALL bushings and seals would be replaced. This place is a total RIP OFF!!!! I will file a complaint with BBB as soon as they open tomorrow!!! Mad Dog hopes that their dissatisfied customers like me will simply give up after so many attempts at getting what I PAID for and just go away.
