Service was quick, warm, and friendly, and I love the cute walk-up window setup. There's also outdoor seating on the sidewalk that makes it an especially convenient stop if you're out walking your dog or just want to sit outside for a bit. I found a BUG in my coffee. That alone completely ruined the drink and made me seriously question the cleanliness and food-handling standards. Finding an insect in something you're actively drinking is disgusting and unacceptable. Unfortunately, the experience left such a bad impression that good service wouldn't have been enough to make up for it. Something like this should never make it into a customer's cup. Whatever positive atmosphere the place may have had was immediately overshadowed by finding a bug in my coffee. It's pretty hard to relax and enjoy a coffee shop after that. Walked here for a mid afternoon matcha and it did not disappoint. The matcha was very yummy and I love that it comes unsweetened. Service was also very fast. If the weather is nice, this place is perfect. However, just be aware that there is no inside. You just order at a window. This place is one of my favorite coffee shops in town! Being near my job and the one that saved me when I can't make it to any other place or make my own coffee at home... this place comes to the rescue! At this point I have tried all of their menu drinks including pastries, but my go to are either their Americano, espresso, and latte. It all depends the mood or what are my needs at that moment; but you can't go wrong with any of their regular drinks like their famous dreamsicle latte or seasonal drinks. I have seen baristas come and go; but everyone that's there is very attentive and amiable. They're so nice that even the new servers would just see you at the window, and ask you if you want your regular. This location is just a window stand though they put a few tables and chairs outside and in the sidewalk. One thing I miss is the green cups with the Mad Lab logo, but lately they're just giving out drinks on white cups. I'll keep coming back for sure! Bad service, there was no one in line I ordered a dolly latte w/ oak milk. Some minutes past and nothing. A customer comes in orders and gets their beverage right away. I ask the barista about my order. He says he forgot, mind you this is second time this happens from the same barista. Ask for a refund, he said no it will come out, he poured it in a cup and just handled it to me. To top it off it was not how I ordered it. read more

The flavor is in the name. I've never had coffee or any kind of latte with this flavor profile before. I first tried Mad Lab back in 2021 and the customer service was wonderful and so thoughtful! I thought my iced coffee tasted like cranberries!! Today I visited Mad Lab in Mid City with my bf and I tried their iced mocha latte and he tried their iced matcha latte. My mocha tasted incredibleeee and it was not super sweet but it was a right amount. It had depth- it was bold af and tasted like cacao, vanilla bean, and cranberries. It left no aftertaste whatsoever and it was sooo smooth. Can yall tell I'm obsessed?? My bfs matcha tasted spiced like if it had star anise and/or clove and ginger. When I got here I found out that it was a little hole in the wall coffee shop. Was waiting for a good 3 minutes outside in the sun before we were greeted. The guy before me was asking the barista some questions but the barista seems to be indifferent. Yikes While I was waiting I was able to decide what I wanted from the menu which was plastered on their window. Ordered their double matcha.. it was not what I expected at all... there were some floating white particles in the drink which I couldn't figure out.. tasted like maybe coconut? I had a wonderful coffee drink here! You can taste the quality in the drinks. I got the Pico Colada with "oat" milk and my partner got the matcha latte. My drink was so delicious! Perfect flavor and not too sweet, which I loathe in an iced coffee. The matcha latte was impressively bright green and flavorful, something I definitely look out for because it's a sign of quality matcha! Some bad news, which knocked the review down a peg -- the woman that took our order had a stale, not very welcoming vibe. But the man making the drinks in the back was vibrant enough to be felt from the order window! I definitely don't care for super performative politeness, but a certain level of welcome I do expect, especially from smaller businesses. Also, I'm not sure if this is always the case but it seems the specialty drinks come hot unless otherwise specified. Because of that hiccup I got mine remade into an iced drink. I think because it got remade they forgot to make it with oat milk instead of the standard cows milk, which kinda bugged me because I didn't feel comfortable going up to the unwelcoming cashier for another remake. It was nice to listen to the music the shop was playing for a a bit. We ordered 3 drinks- a matcha latte, a dreamsicle and a chele palmer. IMO the chele Palmer was the best of the 3. It was such a unique taste and delicious! I wasn't feeling a creamy drink in the moment but my friends loved the dreamsicle (one of them is a big orange creamsicle fan so he was partial to this one). Mad Lab coffee is a cool little (and I mean little) coffee shop near Hollywood Blvd. I love that they embraced their small square footage and brightly colored storefront by putting it on a sticker. I read up on the Dolly Latte and was intrigued by hazelnut and vanilla flavors so I gave it a try with oat milk. After talking to the barista, the syrup for Dolly Latte isn't in fact hazelnut and vanilla, it just tastes like hazelnut and does have vanilla. I also got a Cortado with a packet of raw sugar made with whole milk. The Cortado was very nice but I screwed up with a entire packet of sugar as it was too sweet (that's on me). I do prefer Cortado made with half and half so it's unfortunate that they didn't have any or any heavy cream to make their own. I thought the espresso was very good in the Dolly Latte and was simply a lightly flavored latte. I did get it half sweet so that means I got half the flavor. I wouldn't want it any sweeter so it is what it is. I actually like to enjoy the espresso so it was great for me. While I wasn't blown away, this IS a great spot to get coffee and I wouldn't hesitate in coming here again. read more

We both drive up and down Sunset numerous times, but we only noticed their location on our drive home from doing errands. We flipped a U then decided to drive home instead to go get her dog. We walked over since it was so nice out. A great idea indeed. This place is clearly a neighborhood favorite. There was a crowd when we got there, whilst we waited for our drinks and after we left.
