The service is always excellent, and the drinks are outstanding. The coffee is delicious, and I especially love the creamy foam they put on top of some of their drinks--it takes them to another level. Their matcha is also fantastic: smooth, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. It's an Aussie cafe, they have some swag items with what I assume is Aussie slang? And lots of options for what to get to drink. Definitely a pickup and go type spot given the small square footage. I chose the vegemite caramel latte. If I'm trying somewhere new and that somewhere new is Australian, you have to go with vegemite. But I'll be honest, I didn't really know what vegemite is exactly, of course I've heard of it before, but what is it?, I still can't tell you. But the nice lady assured me that they make the syrup in house just using a little of the Vegemite and the drink just tastes like rich caramel. I got it with almond milk. It wasn't cheap... it rang up to over $8. But thankfully they don't charge for non-dairy milk. She was genuinely engaged in talking about coffee, understood the beans she was serving, and was able to answer questions without hesitation. That's becoming harder to find these days, and it definitely added to the overall experience. The cortado itself was well executed. The temperature was right where it should be, allowing the flavors to come through immediately without having to wait for the drink to cool down. I was able to clearly taste the notes in the coffee, and the balance between the espresso and milk was excellent. The body held together nicely throughout the drink and never felt thin or watered down. My only critique would be that the crema and microfoam leaned a little more matte and foamy than glossy. It wasn't enough to take away from the drink, but a slightly silkier, shinier texture would have elevated it even further. That said, this was an Ethiopian natural, which can be a bit trickier to dial in and pair with milk while still preserving the character of the coffee, so it's a fairly minor criticism. Overall, a very good cortado from a shop that clearly cares about coffee. Good execution, proper temperature, clear flavor separation, and knowledgeable staff always make for a better coffee experience.

It's very inviting and very comfortable. We chose to eat outside and the patio was cool and has a lot of plants to add to a nice patio feel. Our server was always one step ahead of our needs. She gave us timely refills and knew just when to prepare to go cups of our beverages. The food was very good. We had the classic breakfast with a choice of salad over potatoes. I appreciated that was already set up as a choice. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich with a fruit plate. The sandwich had sausage. If I were to order it again I would ask for bacon instead. This would be a place I would stop in if in the area. It's across from the Pantages and next door to Amoeba records. You will find a nice relaxing spot for breakfast/brunch.

Sure they have only a gazillion awards, from best coffee shops to competition rankings, but it's their ability to curate and rotate excellent coffee beans from around the world that remains unmatched. The baristas are knowledgeable, friendly and always ready to guide you, if you so choose. Their coffee is priced reasonably, esp. beans, and the space is inviting. The minimalist decor, bathroom art ('butt' of course, insider joke when you partake in the porcelain palace) and quick turnaround is a recommended template for other coffee shops. What I love is their consistency. They follow a recipe that is dialed in to the nuances of the particular coffee beans and it tastes great every single time. My go-to is their pour over coffee. While the kid swears by their hot chocolate. Even their cappuccino (with non dairy milk) is next level. The food (made to order fresh, sandwiches) and pastries are excellent. The staff are kind enough to share their personal stash of hot sauce. Tip: Kid friendly, with a dedicated enclosed space for toys, books and kids to hang out, while parents get their caffeine buzz. Tip: Plenty of free street parking in the neighborhood, especially. on weekends. If you are looking for insanely good coffee in LA, head over to Melrose for a pilgrimage that you will not regret. Tip: Walk later to Oui Melrose for Tony's Khachapuri that is in a masterclass of its own.
