    Birria Mac n Cheese.

Birria Mac n Cheese. 12/10. It's not your traditional creamy velveeta/kraft ooey-gooey mushy type mac, so i can see how it wouldn't be up someone's alley. But if you like "al dente," and a more authentic cheese-taste, you'll probably be obsessed just like i currently am. The birria meat alone was fantastic and very bold in flavor. The staff were incredibly friendly and the restaurant itself looked cleaner than a hospital. It reminded me of the front lobby of a car dealership and I questioned whether they were in business because of just how clean it looked. The second i walked through door i was greeted with a warm introduction, and great hospitality. Would definitely recommend a visit to Mad Mac!

Ok... it's super simple and it's pretty darn tasty! Noodles cooked just right (not soggy at all) hot & creamy cheese... what else do you need with mac n cheese?! Well, in case you want more they have crispy jalepenos, bread crumbs and hotsauces etc. Gluten free noodle option too! For what it is great! I'm a lover of veggies & fresh stuff and don't really find that here ..but if you want hot, melty cheese & stick to your ribs pasta.. this is the place!

    Calavera Mac - yum!!

Exactly what comfort food should be! Creamy cheesy pasta. I got the Calavera Mac, which is their mac and cheese with chicken thighs (much better than chicken breast!), and pico de gallo. Very fresh and only a hint of spiciness to help cut some of that richness. Simple menu and the listed prices include sales tax. I love nice round amounts when it comes to the bill. Today they had listed two additional specials. And their drink menu looks perfect to try out on a warmer day. Service was friendly and my order came out quick. I got it to go, but will consider eating there the next time I go. And yes, there will be a next time. Love the location and what they've done to the space. The Boise Spectrum needs more places like this.

I think the base mac recipe is pretty good. But odd toppings in certain ways. My friend and I got 2 different choices so that we could try out the different options. What you get is the base mac with the ordered topping plopped on top. Maybe to some people this is fantastic, a mix it yourself kind of deal! To me this was kind of lazy. I want ooy gooy mac with dynamic flavors throughout and now that I know what the toppings are really all about I might just get the mac solo. Not worth what I paid in my opinion.

We came here for lunch today and I thought mad mac was ok. We order the taco mac and it was good not great. The taco mac has mac and cheese topped with carne asada and chimichurri sauce. The mac and cheese is ok but to soupy for my taste. The carne and chimichurri sauce was good but reminded me of Hamburger Helper. Overall, it was good but not great mac and cheese but I personally like a more creamy but firm mac and cheese.

Got pulled pork Mac n Cheese. It was fit to eat. Was impressed with the serving size! I don't think I'd drive across town to get it but was satisfied. Someone else reviewed that the Mac was kinda bland, I have to agree: I expected more flavor... *Lost a star by not being able to provide a physical receipt*

Meh. I had been meaning to try this place for awhile and found myself next to it right after an article about mac and cheese came out in the Statesman. Mad Mac made the cut on their list, so I pulled the trigger. I got one of the specials: Taco Mac -- it had carne and salsa on top. For me, it's just not my style of mac and cheese. I like a baked, firmer mac. This mac was a little thinner and looser than I like. The carne was fine -- average taste, nothing out of this world. It was like mall carne asada. Overall, there was nothing wrong with this place, it just didn't do much for me. I feel like there were some missed opportunities: where was the Chili Mac? The Potato Mac? Their sauce is like a thin au gratin so potatoes would have gone great. They could also be super avant-garde fusion -- where's the Curry Mac? Thai Mac? They could def. play with it and take it up a notch.

Burger AND spinach artichoke. No regrets. Delicious.

Looking through the photos, the burgur and spinach artichoke spoke to me. But what could i do? Get both? Yes. They put both toppings on for me. No regrets. P.s. i couldnt finish it all in one sitting.(Good thing)

While the idea is a good one, who doesn't love Mac n cheese? The execution from my perspective failed. The Mac isn't as tasty as what I would get from a box and the toppings while plentiful, far out weighed the Mac in proportion and taste. Toppings =delicious, Mac = so so. Location is central and if you're out to see a movie it's in a good spot. The Italian soda inspired drinks do sound interesting and I would be willing to give them a try next time I'm at the theater. The seating while spacious is exceptionally cold this time of year. I look forward to seeing if they improve and can maintain the current level of excitement in a few months. I was also disappointed with the poor sustainability of the beverage cups and Chinese food take away containers. While convenient, they seem extremely wasteful. I didn't realize places still served in styrofoam, it makes me sad for our planet.

She came back quickly and made some great recommendations and took our order. We typically always try a cinnamon roll (if they have it) and pancakes- my son ordered the chicken fried steak, which he really enjoyed- and I ordered the Idaho omelet, which was huge, and delicious. The cinnamon roll alone was worth the visit- and the pancakes were good too. The place itself is super cute diner vibes, and is split into two areas for seating. Honestly, this felt like visiting a friend- tons of regulars and the server was amazing knowing orders, names and keeping up on life. She really was fantastic, and made the whole experience that much better. We will definitely be going back, trying other yummy items and telling others about it. The prices are great too, and everything was yummy.

The sign said to seat ourselves so we grabbed a booth. A young woman came over immediately and brought us menus and water. Inside is very homey and family friendly. There are booth along the sides and back of the restaurant and tables for four as well as bigger round tables that would seat 7-8. Next to us was a young family of five kids and the wife was pregnant. We then sat for longer than we should. Finally, our server, Julia B, came over. She was very friendly and nice. She took our order: my wife wanted the Salisbury steak and I had the Pacific Omelet with hashbrowns and pancakes. My first clue that things were not as they should be was when Julia asked my wife how she wanted her Salisbury steak cooked. Hmmm. The food took longer than it should to come out, but that was OK because we were in no hurry. When it did come out, my wife and I both looked at the "Salisbury Steak" and realized that, in fact, it was not what it was supposed to be. Instead, it was an actual steak. On the other hand, my omelet, with bacon crumbles and Swiss cheese, was good, my hashbrowns were extra crispy as I asked for, and the pancakes, which the cook forgot to make but that came out pretty quickly anyway, were pretty good. My wife ordered one of their giant cinnamon buns to go. We didn't see Julia for a time, and so my wife flagged down another server and asked if what she had was Salisbury steak. As expected the server said no. Julia came over shortly after. I said, "My wife ordered the Salisbury steak." Julia said, "Yes?". I said, "That's not Salisbury steak." She then realized her mistake and apologized repeatedly. What my wife received was the Iron Skillet Steak. Not sure about the misunderstanding. Julia offered to make the Salisbury steak to go, but my wife, being very nice and considerate, told her she'd be OK with the Iron Skillet Steak. Julia then comped the cinnamon bun, which I appreciated. She was trying to make things right. And again, she was very nice. We think we will give Mr. V's another chance at sometime in the future.

So, I've always been hesitant to write a review since I couldn't ever make up my mind about either loving or hating this location. We went early on a Thursday night, so there wasn't any wait. After being seated, we were quickly greeted by our friendly server. She quickly served our drinks and our orders were ready as soon as she returned. I ordered the smokehouse grilled chicken plate (2 seasoned chicken breasts) and three sides (house salad with ranch, fries and Mac & cheese) and my husband had the country fried steak with brown gravy, corn and mashed potatoes. My salad came out first with the most fresh lettuce, plump tomatoes, crisp-tender cucumbers, bacon, and large shreds of cheddar cheese. The ranch tasted like a cross between bleu cheese and ranch, was pretty thick, just wasn't my favorite. This was followed by my perfectly grilled chicken, which was exceptionally tender and juicy. My fries were a little undercooked, but that Mac and cheese was truly delicious....and I actually don't really love Mac and cheese (just sounded good). Hubby couldn't stop raving about his steak, a glowing non-stop review. Unfortunately, our server disappeared in the kitchen and didn't return for refills until our meals were almost finished. I couldn't finish my meal, so we had a lot of yummy leftovers. When we were leaving, a manager spotted me carrying multiple containers and walked up with an open bag, offering the bag to me while helping me load the containers inside (so thoughtful!). We immediately felt guilty to even order any drinks and just asked for water, my daughter said she didn't want anything and to save herself the burden, and we also stated we were ready to order. So as to save her an extra trip. We received our food but had no utensils so as our food cooled she brought us utensils. Side note , her other table didn't wait and retrieved their own. While eating our meal a bus person was cleaning a nearby table and knocked the pepper shaker to the floor. She picked it up and placed it back on the table. When I informed our waitress of this she said she would speak to her about it. I thought she would replace the pepper shaker. NOPE! She walked right past it. I don't even know if she spoke to the bus person. If this is how the front of the house is run, I don't want to imagine what goes on in the kitchen. We did not finish our meals nor take any leftovers. We love the Cracker Barrel and have enjoyed decades and multiple generations of meals, celebrating occasions and milestones. Just to note, we have visited a lot of different locations for these events. Cracker Barrel is our go to because it has something for everyone. But if this is the standard they now have, we will have to find another go to place.
