Food truck review. My daughter and I found the Mad Mac food truck at Kleiner Park during Potato Days. We tried a $14 bowl of mac & cheese with barbecue chicken, mashed potatoes and corn. It was really tasty. I liked the creative menu options they offered. The bbq chicken and mashed potato combination on top of macaroni and cheese was surprisingly yummy. Once we placed our order, everything was just put together in minutes. It was simply prepared comfort food. A great food truck option! The bowl was enough to feed her with plenty of leftovers for me. Tried this place a few weeks ago...by the titles Mac n cheese is their specialty...while I ordered the food on line and went to kick it up. What was shocking was the lack of service had to get the attention of the people working then once food was ready just handed it to me with no thank you or have a great night. Ambiance inside is terrible and generic no character at all. But food was actually pretty tasty! Went to the Kuna location, we have been there many times, but they have introduced some new items recently. We tried the new carne asada fries, which had a good amount of tender carne asada meat, their original Mac & cheese, chimichurri, on top of sidewinder fries. It was supposed to also have pico de gallo that was missing, b it they were still delicious. A bit pricey in my opinion, but worth the splurge every now and then. We also tried their new mac&cheese balls, these were amazing! Large balls of their original Mac but with added in shredded cheese to make them extra cheesy, breaded and fried. These were so good. My son also got his usual favorite the Southern comfort, which is their mac topped with corn and crispy bacon. These kuna location has a small seating area for eating there or you can take it to go. Okay, the Boise Location is closed but they opened in Kuna at the Albertsons center. Get there now. This place is amazing. My son has been talking about this place for the last two years and since the Boise shop closed we were heartbroken. Then it opened up in Kuna. Hardest part was picking. Give yourself about ten extra minutes if you haven't been there. OR start at the top and plan 15 trips getting a new entree each time. Beth helped us today and she was the Bomb. Service was great and the food was better. Oh, wait, they have drink mixes. I don't remember what mine was called but it was Mountain Dew, pomegranate and lime. It was as good as what Arctic circle used to call a line squeeze 35 years ago. I needed an extra 5 to pick a drink. Everything is Mac and Cheese but I had the pulled pork on top. This mix was thrill inducing. I'm getting chills thinking about it now 20 minutes after eating it. Took the grandkids with us and they loved the plain Mac and Cheese. Have to entertain them now. Birria Mac n Cheese. 12/10. It's not your traditional creamy velveeta/kraft ooey-gooey mushy type mac, so i can see how it wouldn't be up someone's alley. But if you like "al dente," and a more authentic cheese-taste, you'll probably be obsessed just like i currently am. The birria meat alone was fantastic and very bold in flavor. The staff were incredibly friendly and the restaurant itself looked cleaner than a hospital. It reminded me of the front lobby of a car dealership and I questioned whether they were in business because of just how clean it looked. Ok... it's super simple and it's pretty darn tasty! Noodles cooked just right (not soggy at all) hot & creamy cheese... what else do you need with mac n cheese?! Well, in case you want more they have crispy jalepenos, bread crumbs and hotsauces etc. Gluten free noodle option too! For what it is great! Exactly what comfort food should be! Creamy cheesy pasta. I got the Calavera Mac, which is their mac and cheese with chicken thighs (much better than chicken breast!), and pico de gallo. Very fresh and only a hint of spiciness to help cut some of that richness. Simple menu and the listed prices include sales tax. I love nice round amounts when it comes to the bill. Today they had listed two additional specials. And their drink menu looks perfect to try out on a warmer day. Service was friendly and my order came out quick. I got it to go, but will consider eating there the next time I go. And yes, there will be a next time. I think the base mac recipe is pretty good. But odd toppings in certain ways. My friend and I got 2 different choices so that we could try out the different options. Whether Mad Mac, which started as Boise food truck and evolved to become bare-bones brick and mortar, order at counter and carry to table location here, came first for concept or the two 'mac moguls' who started Mac'd in the SF Bay area - now with 3 outposts there and with one to launch as take away stand in Portland soon - the concept is just unusual enough to go check it out here. One and done for us. But we could see it might be a fit for others and it is mom-n-pop owned, so 3 stars. LOCATION: No knock on the nice folks who are working hard in their set up in The Spectrum mall. (Entire mall location which feels a bit like giant food court is not our fav for sure.) But as the 'there won't be a second date' line goes: "It's not you. It's me." EATS & DRILL: First, it is tough to get pasta cooked right in a set up like this and pasta is the foundation here. And we just don't get the excess. An already decadent food like mac-n-cheese topped with additional salt and fat and calories in pizza fixin's or Buffalo chicken or cheeseburger mix or sweet pork or... then piled into Chinese take-out containers for the eater to dig through to eat in a brightly lit, bare bones space. Then there is the long menu of sweet drinks to add to the repertoire. Well...different strokes for different folks when it comes to eats. SERVICE: The woman behind the counter was pleasant and the space interior is well maintained. Good for them for all that. Menu board above counter. Outdoor seating is picnic table style. ADA parking in the Spectrum is non-compliant with 29 year old law - cobbled together and that is the mall owners failure, not a Mad Mac issue. LOO: Outside, around the corner, down a hallway, across corridor from a hair styling / barber school. TIMING TIP: Mid day after lunch hour and during week when school is in session seems the best time for no crowd. We came here for lunch today and I thought mad mac was ok. We order the taco mac and it was good not great. The taco mac has mac and cheese topped with carne asada and chimichurri sauce. The mac and cheese is ok but to soupy for my taste. The carne and chimichurri sauce was good but reminded me of Hamburger Helper. Mad Mac made the cut on their list, so I pulled the trigger. I got one of the specials: Taco Mac -- it had carne and salsa on top. For me, it's just not my style of mac and cheese. I like a baked, firmer mac. This mac was a little thinner and looser than I like. The carne was fine -- average taste, nothing out of this world. It was like mall carne asada. Overall, there was nothing wrong with this place, it just didn't do much for me. I feel like there were some missed opportunities: where was the Chili Mac? The Potato Mac? Since Mad Mac won't return my PMs, keeps deleting my comments and refuses to have a conversation, I guess I'll have to take the conversation to somewhere they cant delete it. HIPAA DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU. When my husband and I went to Mad Mac the other day there was a sign was posted. Other than the fact its pretty obviously begging you to come up with any reason not to wear a mask, my quarrel with them actually lied in the last sentence where they stated, "Due to HIPAA, we can not ask you your reasons for not wearing a mask, nor can we enforce it." This statement is not only incredibly false, but is misleading to their customers and those in their community. HIPAA does NOT apply here. I took a photo and politely notified them that their last sentence was factually incorrect and asked them to fix it so that they arent spreading blatant misinformation to their customers and those in their community. To that I attached a second photo with HIPAA explained. I honestly wasn't sure if they didnt know or just didn't take 2 seconds to research it because they didnt want to, but I tried to engage in a polite conversation to make them aware of the mistake both publically and privately before coming here. I tried to give it a chance and now Im done. It honestly sucks that a local owned business we actually used to love is so stubborn that theyre above responding to their customers or admitting something was overlooked and they were going to correct it. So, we won't be supporting or returning there again and we will be notifying others of the experience and the sign and encouraging them to do the same. read more

While the idea is a good one, who doesn't love Mac n cheese? The execution from my perspective failed. The Mac isn't as tasty as what I would get from a box and the toppings while plentiful, far out weighed the Mac in proportion and taste. Toppings =delicious, Mac = so so. Location is central and if you're out to see a movie it's in a good spot. The Italian soda inspired drinks do sound interesting and I would be willing to give them a try next time I'm at the theater. The seating while spacious is exceptionally cold this time of year. I look forward to seeing if they improve and can maintain the current level of excitement in a few months. I was also disappointed with the poor sustainability of the beverage cups and Chinese food take away containers. While convenient, they seem extremely wasteful. Needed a quick bite after returning from a trip. Wife decided on Mad Mac's since it is right across from where we are staying . I'm glad she did. Menu has quite a few choices but there is a limited amount. I decided on the Cheeseburger Mac, and it came with seasoned ground beef and some delicious crispy bacon. Wife chose the Buffalo Chicken Mac that comes with a spicy buffalo sauce and chicken. They were quick. Good size portions and served hot. We loved both of ours and not a spec was left. Both were loaded with toppings and when mixed into the Mac it was a complete bite that tasted great. I would definitely go back. I ask the cashier/food prep/ everything guy what he recommended and he said the taco mac n cheese. Went with that for a WAY overpriced $15 for a cup. Took it home to eat it and could not even finish it. Tossed the rest. I have had some outstanding mac n cheese in Chicago before and one day of the week you can get a complete tray of mac n cheese for $15 Good luck to them but I don't see them making it in a brick and mortar store off the beaten path. read more

I've been dying to try this place for a while! For a long time, I thought this was only a food truck business, as I have seen them at various locations around town but when I went to a movie the other day, I saw they actually had a permanent place. My fiancé and I decided to try it after we finished a movie. I tried the southern comfort, which included corn and bacon in the Mac. It was delicious! The bacon came a little hard and crunchy, but when I had it for left overs the next day it was way better. My fiancé had the bacon cheeseburger, which had ground beef and bacon. He loved his as well. They also have house made mixed drinks (non-alcoholic). We tried the apple beer. It was pretty interesting, but yummy. I can't wait to go back and try all there different kinds of Mac! read more

(Although the truck still exists) Who doesn't at least occasionally like macaroni and cheese? This place makes a really good regular macaroni and cheese, however it's their specialty dishes that makes this place special. We tried the regular, the Southern Comfort, and the Bacon cheeseburgerurger. The regular, and bacon cheeseburger are self-explanatory, the Southern Comfort is macaroni and cheese, mixed with bacon and corn. It may sound odd, but it was really pretty good. Some of thier other menu items all made with macaroni and cheese include Philly cheese steak, pulled pork, and buffalo chicken. Decent food but I guess customer service is not a concern? When ordering the cashier wasn't paying attention I had to correct him twice on a simple one item order. I still put a tip in the jar anyway, no acknowledgement at all. (Customary to at least say thanks when getting a tip isn't it?) My order was correct but when handing out they just simply said my name, dropped the order on the counter and walked away. I went here under duress, I didn't want to go to a mac and cheese place, this isn't a proper dinner ... Boy am I glad they twisted my arm, this place is shockingly good! There are many different mac and cheese options to choose from and different add-ins. The first good sign was that you actually have to study the menu and think about the flavors and what you want in your mac and cheese. The mac and cheese itself is delicious. It is hearty and perfectly cooked and the servings are very large. The combinations are well thought out and what I ordered was just so good I wanted to go back after the movie! I tasted everyone else's at the table and theirs was really good too. This place is kind of low key and nothing special in terms of appearance but the food makes up for it. I've been craving this since I had it and would go just for the food even if I wasn't going to a movie. You owe it to yourself to try this out if you like mac and cheese. Indigo was getting sick of being in the house. She grabbed her shoes, three stuffed animal cats, and away we went to Mad Macs brick and mortar restaurant. Ordering was a process, as what I originally wanted was sold out already (it was around 9 when we got there so it's understandable), then I asked how small the hot dogs were in the hot dog Mac and cheese. The ladies were very helpful and showed me a piece for reference. It was too big to give to a toddler (choking risk for those who don't know). Personally, whenever feeding toddlers hot dogs, I mince them as you would garlic. We settled on the original mad Mac, chocolate cake (which weighed about 5lbs), and an orange dreamsicle soda (the names may not be accurate) For dine in orders, they bring you your food on a tray. For to go orders, you pick up at the counter. The food was fabulous and I could finish the cake so it will be breakfast. Indigo enjoyed the Mac and cheese very much as well as the cake. The neat thing about this place is the lounge area composed of couches and a fireplace. Excellent to chat while waiting for a to go order.
