Pricey, but worth it! I got my bridesmaids dress altered here. It was a pretty simple alter - hem the bottom and shorten the straps which set me back about $88. The owner was so friendly and nice when she was fitting the dress to me. When I came to pick it up, she made sure that I was happy with the alteration and could walk comfortably in it. She also steamed the dress for me, which saved me the trouble the day of the wedding. Will definitely be back for future alterations! read more

This is basically my new favorite place. Why, you ask? I'll tell you why: I have been living a life full of ill-fitting, never quite 'right,' business clothing and I finally have a secret weapon for combatting my work fashion problems - buy it one or two sizes larger and bring it to MTF. They are awesome. It appears that the work-fashion world hates my body type. Pear-shapes and the conservative business casual/business formal attire designers of the world do not see eye-to-eye in my experience. I have searched high and low for professional dresses, skirts, etc. that fit appropriately only to be let down time and time again (no ghetto-booty pencil skirt action for me, thanks). Other tailors have seriously let me down, so when a family member suggested MTF, I was hesitant to give them a try. Not any more! I have officially brought in several dresses and skirts to be re-worked and have been nothing but satisfied with the results - I can finally be a well 'put-together' pear shape, ladies and gents! Hehe. Here is the pricing as I remember it (but my memory isn't perfect, y'all!): - Pants hemming (unlined): $12/pair - Pants hemming (lined): $20/pair - Skirt re-design: $35 - Dress re-design: $40+ Now, this obviously isn't the most cost-effective solution for updating one's wardrobe, but it's worth it so long as MTF continues to provide excellent 'fixes' to my clothing problems. This review applies to MEN'S CLOTHING ONLY. I like the people. They were very nice, and attentive, but I have to say, tailoring suits is not their thing. Unfortunately, I will probably end up taking my suits elsewhere to be re-tailored. The stitching in the sleeves is poor. The sleeves are too long (I even mentioned that when she was measuring, but unfortunately let her talk me out of it). I am swimming in my coat (again, I let her talk me out of my opinion at the fitting). Overall, just not their thing. read more

Seriously the best alterations place! I've taken 2 dresses here now. The second dress I brought, which I just picked up was absolutely amazing! It was a size 4 to begin with and I wear a 0/00. So a lot of stuff had to be done with it in order for it to fit me perfectly. I picked my dress up yesterday and when I tried it on I was so happy! And once I got home and was able to actually look to see where it was altered, I can't even find it. It's almost like they just used magic to make it smaller. Normally you can see where they took it in, but I can't find it. The inside looks exactly the same as when it was a size 4. No idea how, but I love it! Best place to get alterations done!! read more

I came here for my wedding dress alterations (brides, beware that during your budget planning, you will never be able to get a price quote for the alterations over the phone...and rightfully so, as some places charge by the hour and others by the job. Either way, it's up to the vendor once they see you in the dress and can figure out how much work needs to be done). So unless I wanted to haul my dress around to 10 places, try it on and have each one quote me, I took my chances and came straight here based on Yelp reviews. We were greeted immediately upon arrival, the owner and (her daughter?) were both very nice to work with. It turned out to be a little pricey, but I didn't worry about it since I felt that I was in good hands and I would be photographed a lot in this dress. The only things I didn't like was that somehow during the fitting, the back of my dress was being pinned up into a bustle...which I was never asked about, didn't want and did not end up using during my event. Also, the strap (I knew) needed to be shortened, but she also said it needed to be "pushed down" so that it would lay flat on my chest and you "wouldn't be able to see through it in sideways pictures". Fine, but even after alterations it still lifted off my chest, which I knew it would since I'm busty. I was charged for both of these items that I really was never asked about and didn't really want, it just kind of happened. Also, the owner asked me to call a day ahead of the scheduled pick up date to "make sure it was ready". So I did, and it wasn't. I wasn't panicked because it was still plenty of time before my event, but when I called she gave me another date the next wk to pick it up. However, once I get there (a week later than original date), and it STILL wasn't ready. She said, "ok we'll finish it now, come back in 10 mins". 45 mins later I finally had it but was late for work...if they clearly weren't done with it I would have preferred she just told me instead of "5 more mins" Would I come here again? Meh, I guess. But she's so friendly I hate to give less than 4 stars. read more

I dropped off my dress almost three weeks ago. Told me it would take extra time with senior ball around the corner. I just had a simple hem on cotton dress. Show up today to pick it up and they hadn't even started it. They wanted me to return tomorrow and there was no one in charge to talk to. Only the owners daughter who did not know anything. This place does a great job on alterations. They do everything from simple hemming to more complicated reconstruction of garments. I had a blouse that was always a bit baggy on me. The woman helping me pointed out that if she just brought it in on the sides, it would hang funny through the chest, so she added front and back darts, too. The blouse fits beautifully now, and I wear it so much more often. Another blouse required making the armhole a little smaller, and it, too, fits like it was custom made. They have also altered skirts, including having to take out and work around side zippers and linings on silk skirts. I would totally trust them with anything fragile or complicated. read more

I ran in here at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday with a pair of pants that I needed hemmed up by the next day. I had one foot out the door as I anticipated that in response to my frantic question "Can you hem my pants by tomorrow??", I would be laughed out the door. But instead I was greeted by a very friendly and sweet woman who agreed to do it. She did the fitting quickly and told me they would be ready by 2 p.m. the next day. I picked them up at 2:30 on Saturday and they fit perfectly! This place really saved me and didn't overcharge despite the last-minute request. They are also extremely friendly to everyone who walks in the door and you just know they will take care of you. I'll definitely come here again and refer family and friends to this shop. read more

Mine was pricey because I had 2 long formal dresses....it was worth the money. The dresses fit great and was the length was just right. My great experience with Made to Fit started when I called one Sunday morning to find out their hours. The woman who answered told me they weren't open on Sundays but if I wanted to come in right away she would wait for me. I wasn't in a rush so I put it off for a few days. I went in knowing it would be expensive to take in my dress because the zipper was on the side. I told the woman I didn't want to spend a lot of money because the dress didn't cost me much. She told me it would be $48 unless she could potentially do it another way, in which case it would be $38. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked it up and found out she could do it the less expensive way. On top of that, she is super sweet! I'm glad I found our new tailoring place. I've gotten a wide range of clothes altered here and the service is always great. I routinely have to alter pants and that is always an affordable charge. With dresses, due to their complexity, the prices are higher so it's always a debate of whether it's worth it or not for me. I just got back a dress I will be wearing to a wedding next month and Sammy's work was wonderful - it fits like a dream. Another dress was a trimmed too much though, fortunately I was able to bring it back and it'll be fixed in a week. Made to Fit will continue to be my go-to for alterations. read more

I just realized I haven't written a review for the great service from here! I purchased my wedding gown from a boutique in LA because I wanted my mom to be there when I got it. They also have a store in Sac and I was told they were going to open one in Walnut Creek and was hoping to do my alteration there, that never happened...It was 3 months before my wedding, and I realized it's time for me to look for someone to shorten my gown...quick! I had a beautiful organza gown with a sweatheart neckline and beading on the side, and a small train. Everything else fits perfectly cuz it was a corsett top, but the bottom was just too long (about three inches). I started by looking at all the bridal gown alteration places in the area, spent a whole Saturday bringing my gown to different places because most of them don't give you a quote over the phone. The prices I got were mostly around the $500- $600 range. The price seemed a little high to me considering all I needed done was shorten it, but most of the store owners explained that organza is very difficult to work with and my gown had special rolled-hem and they can do something similar but not exactly the same cuz they don't have the proper machine... I still thought it was a lot of money and wasn't that satisfied with the possibility of having a complete different hem from most of the other stores... I looked on yelp more and found Sammy! I called her right away, and explained my situation to her. She kept the store open late for me one day, just so I could bring my gown in for her to look at. She is sooooo sweet!!! She said the same thing about the special hem and she doesn't have that type of needle, but showed me what she could do, and I couldn't tell the difference! And her price was unbeatable!!! I was very happy and went to tell my mother in law I finally found someone! My mother in law was a little skeptical at first because she couldn't believe the price, and she's a sewer herself. So the following Saturday morning, she came with me to Sammy's shop and looked at her work herself. Sammy spent a lot of time showing us what she'll do, and showed us two different options for the bustles. We were all convinced that the gown will turn out perfectly! A couple weeks later, my gown was ready. And it was PERFECT!!! Forgot to say...my dress had 6 layers of organza, so it was a lot of work! I couldn't be happier with the work that Sammy did on it! I even joked with her that she should've charged me for all these work. I also took the gown there a week before the wedding to get it steamed, and it was sooooo pretty. I got soooo many compliments on my wedding gown and I couldn't have done it without Sammy. My mother in law also started taking all of her alterations to her since then, and so is the rest of my family. And I also took it to her to have the gown preserved and kept in a box after the wedding as well. I am very pleased with the work done at Made to Fit. Mine was an unusual project. I acquired a very old silk covered futon that my parents bought in Japan over 60 years ago. I always liked the color and pattern of the material, but needless to say it wasn't in the best shape, as it was starting to fray in areas. I wanted it cut down to fit into a window seat. I brought in the new foam filler for them to cover. I'm sure this was a very challenging job, piecing together a newly commissioned item, trying to find usable pieces to patch together. It turned out just beautifully, complete with zipper and piping around all the edges. It was a little expensive, but I think the cost was completely justified based on the man-hours it must have taken. I will definitely bring in all my alteration work to this shop from now on! read more
